Come on I can't be the ONLY one!!! I got my BFP this morning - I think I'm due around the 12th March...

No real symptoms yet other than slightly weary this afternoon, and quite bad backache.

Not too hopeful JUST yet as very early days and had a m/c last year. Already have a DD (2.5)

Don't leave me here on my own too long!!

God, hadn't realised it is so low in the States, MKG

I get 9 months full pay and 3 statutory pay - am very lucky (and this will be my 3rd mat leave!) - and with dd and ds I took a career break after that for a bit.

I am soooo addicted to sleeping too - dozing on and off

going to find my late shift hideous tomorrow - yukkety-yuck

fearlessfreak--some jobs do give paternity leave and some don't, but I don't think it's a government requirement. My job would give men a two week paternity leave, but dh's job doesn't do it.

GYo · 16/07/2008 21:39

Hi everyone- sorry i've been a bit quiet. Been trying to work today.

Thanks for the information Fearless I will investigate too...

Regarding "over doing it" - I ran for train tonight. Wondering what doing too much/ putting self understrain really is...

Anyone had guidance?

sadiemcgradie · 16/07/2008 23:09

Hallo everyone,

Wow, what a very looooong thread! What is it about June conceptions??

I'm due 4 March and have a DD (who will be 2.5 when the new one arrives). Think I'm the oldest here - 44 - we had been trying for a year so pretty amazed when it happened.

Question for anyone who can remember how they felt at 20 weeks in terms of energy and general aches and pains: I'm due to go to the Frankfurt book fair for work in October for 3 days which I suspect will be utterly full-on; lots of rushing around and meetings. I remember feeling relatively perky but the old memory has a way of glazing over these days.

Am about to tell Boss about my condition - don't know whether I should try and get a reduced trip or put my case forward not to go at all. Employers have a greater duty of care I know but it's going to be awkward...

MKG · 17/07/2008 00:00

I remember feeling fine at 20 weeks. Actually if it weren't for the bump I wouldn't have known I was pregnant then.

MKG · 17/07/2008 00:01

Welcome Sadie!

Morning Ladies!! How is everybody this morning?!

I am feeling sick again....it seems to kick in at 9.30 on the dot!!! But I have got my napping equipment in the car again

MKG I can't beleive how harsh the maternity leave is over there! I am obviously eligible for the statutory leave, or I can chose company maternity pay which is 12 weeks at 100% pay and a further 8 weeks at 70% pay (and after returning to work for 1 month you get your 8 weeks remaining 30% pay as a returners bonus!) the only requirement is that you return for 6 months! So I am quite lucky!!

Playingthe9monthwait · 17/07/2008 10:03

Morning all,

Welcome Sadie! I'd rather you then me. If your trade fair/show is anything like the ones we do they are so knackering and full on that they are hard enough to get through without being pg! My feet get so swollen by the end of them and I come back completely exhausted. Mind you some of that is the late night drinking that seems part and parcel of these things

MKG - Its very interesting how mat leave works in the states. It sounds as if its really left up to the individual companies rather than managed by the state. I don't think I had appreciated how lucky we were in that respect here. Many companies do offer above and beyond the min but you are obligated to go back, whereas with the sat mat pay you do not have to go back. Mine doesn't offer anything above and beyond the legal min, but as I have no intention of coming back to work here unless they offer me nice part time hours (which is unlikely) then it makes no difference to me and I still get a full years leave (9 months paid to some extent) so its not a bad deal.

Feel slightly crap this morning. Knackered as I just couldn't sleep and waves of nausea but thats not too bad. Can't wait till the weekend, I plan to sleep although I am supposed to be going to the polo on Sunday, so we shall just see how I feel.

Saw the midwife last night. She was nice, slightly disorganised and a bit scatty but friendly enough. Was weighed, shown around the birthing centre and booked in, which was cool. Have to go back in 2 weeks to take my blood. I have also been refered for a scan. Good news is that out local scan policy has changed as of May this year. They no longer do 16 week scans, they do the proper 11-13 week nucal (sp?) scan and the 20 week scan. They do it at the local private place I was considering going to pay for it myself, so if I still want an extra scan it can all be in the same place.

GYo - I can't believe that price. Our place does an early dating scan for £50. Obviously its more for a proper 12 weeks scan but its only something like £75-100. In fact I am sure its only £125 for a 4d scan.

Mandy73 · 17/07/2008 11:57

Hi all,

I hope everyone's OK.

Busy with house guests for a few days, now finding it almost impossible to catch up here - hooray, there's loads of us!

Anyone else with a temper from hell - like PMT times 1000? (poor DH)

MavisGrind · 17/07/2008 12:01

Morning all. Hope everyone is feeling fine and dandy today!

Quick question for the older mothers here.. I'm 37 and assuming I would be offered a nuchal scan. Does anyone know when this would be? I'm in Oz until I'm eight weeks and not planning on seeing a doctor before we leave, however, by the time we've got back to the UK and back home I'll be over nine weeks and I'm hoping I won't have missed the window for testing.

Anyone got any ideas?

I'm off to bed soon (well, I am nine hours ahead) but I hope everyone has a good day

CaptainKarvol · 17/07/2008 12:07

Afternoon (just)

Mavis I'm 37 too - I think the nuchal scan is at about 14-16 weeks, but not everywhere offers it. I'm pretty sure my area doesn't.

Would you believe that someone in the office just asked me (very discreetly) if I was pg!?!? I know I have no tummy muscles (fat, moi?), but that is insane. My honesty genes kicked in and I said yes, but very very early and you never know at this stage so please keep it quiet. Wierd that I have told random colleague before parents, PILs, friends...

Playingthe9monthwait · 17/07/2008 12:23

Ours offer the nuchal scan between 11-13 weeks and I am only 26 (they have only recently started offering it). I saw the midwife yesterday and I am only 7 weeks, she said she would get send my referal to the scanning clinic and they would contact me soon to make an apt. So 9 weeks def is not missing the testing window but it is leaving it a little late to book in and then be refered. I suppose it depends how slow things move where you are!

Playingthe9monthwait · 17/07/2008 12:24

Oh and Mandy, I am a bit more irratable, although not that bad, but I am def much more emotional. On Tues night I was crying my eyes out for no reason at all!

Mandy73 · 17/07/2008 12:38

Thanks Playingthe9monthwait good to know. I'm hot headed normally but this is something else - "How dare you mess with me even if it's all in my head" basically.

CaptainKarvol understand exactly about the honesty gene and how it's weird to have told random colleague before PILs & friends. But what else to do?

Beetle73 · 17/07/2008 12:52

Mandy - yes, I'm pretty evil at the moment.

Mavis - finally saw the GP last night. She offered me nuchal fold (I'm 35), but it won't be until after the 11ish week scan, so should be OK.

Are you already registered with a UK GP? If so, then perhaps you can call and try to get the booking process started before you come back.

Feeling a bit more human today - nearly 9 hours sleep last night. Also working from home, which probably helps. Anyway, a tip to all you first-timers: Never yet your small child 'drive' your car. I did, and she left the map-reading light on. Which is why my battery was flat this morning, and I'm now working from home. Sounds obvious, I know, but it was another lesson that I had to learn the hard way .

Playingthe9monthwait · 17/07/2008 12:54

Captain, I also agree I find it very hard to lie. Its weird isn't it, lying is virtually always discouraged yet its kinda expected in pg. I'm happy making some excuses, can't drink because of my medication (well I am taking folic acid ) don't feel that well (again completely true) trying to loose some weight (I am at least trying to eat more healthily) etc etc, but thats different to outright lying.

A couple of our mates have asked DH if I am pg and he has managed to lie so far (not sure how convincingly) but we have both decided enough is enough and we can't stand lying, so next time someone asks outright I am going to tell them, until then I will keep quiet.

Playingthe9monthwait · 17/07/2008 12:55

Beetle - x posts. I'll remember that tip

citybranch · 17/07/2008 13:19

Hi guys,

Sorry to say I had bleeding this morning and the doc confirmed it looks like an early miscarriage/ possible chemical pregnancy, so I will be leaving the Due March 09 board. Feel a bit rubbish especially since I negotiated some better hours with my work yesterday, and now this has happened. But I will be fine, this must happen for a reason and i think that deep down i knew that cycle 1 of ttc was too good to be true!
All the best for all of you!

MKG · 17/07/2008 13:22

Good morning everyone. I finally slept last night. I feel so good. Yesterday was a terrible day overall. We had to put our dog to sleep, and I spent most of the day in tears and spent the evening consoling dh.

Everyone knows I'm pregnant except for my mom and my sister. I will not lie to them. Just omit things.

MKG · 17/07/2008 13:23

x-posts city branch.

I'm so sorry .

Mandy73 · 17/07/2008 13:25

Citybranch I'm so sorry. Really admire your brave attitude. Best of luck. x

emma2617 · 17/07/2008 13:41

Citybranch so sorry...I really admire your strength.

Ladies...how is everyone coping with avoiding foods you aren't supposed to eat? And how strict do you have to be? The 2 girls at work I sit with keep telling me that I am not allowed everything I am eating!!
