nuh night ALBS

Expectant · 26/06/2008 06:45

It's 88 or 31 here too and about 75% humidity..nice weather if you're not pregnant! Have been worrying about how to keep the bedrooms cool enough for the baby. TS/LWFH - any advice or do you just have air-con on constant (ours is ok but a bit old now so not v.efficient)? Problem here is that it doesn't get much cooler at night. In fact lowest temp on record is 18 (64).

LWFH - thanks for the article. I think we won't be going for it as it is expensive and I don't know how long we will be over here so seems little point if we needed it at a later date and then had to fly half way round the world to make use of it or had to get it moved back to the UK.

bealcain · 26/06/2008 07:26

morning all, hope you all slept well. i did surprsingly, although am so nervous about appt. later that it took me ages to get off (to sleep, not the either sort Buckets)

anyway hope you all have good days

poppysocks · 26/06/2008 08:23

Good luck with the appointment bealcain.

Anyone know where I might find my ankles? They've disappeared. Overnight. Help!!!

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 09:15

good luck bealcain.
I had a ranodm night too - odd dreams, several loo visits (one with v ouchy tummy ache - I'd prefer just the wind lol then at least i could stay in bed).

Dh and I had a chat about names last night after I pointed out that as we'd promised dd the shortlist to choose from, we can't leave it much longer cos if this baby were to come before my section date I don't want to have a nameless baby til we've asked dd (lol that sounds so strange, asking dd... don't worry we're not giving her free range - just making out job easier as we can't agree beyond shortlisting).

Already got heartburn. grr.

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 09:16

poppy hmm - your ankles.... nope, I think they've gone on an adventure with mine....

CaptainCaveman · 26/06/2008 09:32

Good luck finding your ankles poppy and albs . I'm sure mine will go a-wandering later when I've got through the stack of ironing thats waiting for me.

Good luck with your appt bealcain, what time is it at?

Plans today include drinking tea (liquorice), ironing, seeing friends, watching tennis, doing jigsaw, showering - in no particular order. Also need to fit a quick shop for essentials in there.....so much to do, so little time. Given the whiff of me though I think the shower will be first....!

cyteen · 26/06/2008 09:47

Morning everyone,

Had an unsettled night myself, so sympathies to all the other up-and-downers. Woke up at 3am needing a wee and just knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep, so took my pillows downstairs in order to distract the cats from jumping all over DP's head (he's been awake in the small hours for the last two nights and was knackered). Felt really sad and couldn't stop thinking about my brother Anyway, I laid on the sofa drinking mint tea and had a good cry, then the cats came and slept on me which eventually sent me to sleep again.

It's hard, missing him. I still feel quite dumbstruck by the whole thing, which is difficult in one sense because it means I can't articulate what I'm feeling, but comforting in another because I'm not ready for him to just become part of the family narrative, iyswim. I don't want him to be in the past yet, even though that means hanging on to all the sadness in the present.

Anyway, the sun is out and I get paid today, so I'm going to cheer myself up by buying some ridiculously small and cute item of clothing for the baby Am meeting up with DP for lunch as well, which gives me something to look forward to during the incredibly boring productive morning at work.

Am also going to do at least 20 pelvic floors. Yes I am! [stern look in mirror]

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 10:04

Cyteen lots of hugs. I'm sure it must be so overhwleming, not only are you still grieving but you have extra hormones making everything seem so much worse..... Of course you're not ready for him to simply be part of the narrative, but on the other hand the sadness is so debilitating. I don;t have any real advice - just to say keep talking, even if just to us cos we're not "real"....

eek - pelvic floors.

cavey ironing, gaaaah. my ironing basket is a tad full. It's mainly dh's stuff at the mo cos I've not been ironing my matty stuff - only one pair of linen trousers, and have been trying to hang dd's stuff so it won;t need ironing. Hope dh has enough clerical shirts to get him through the wek . Dd and i are going to my parents for the weekend, so maybe he'll do some ironing while watching geeky boring stuff he's sky plussed.....

On my list today is clean bathrooms and mop floors in them ( also change hand towels and bathmats). Have a rest. Wrap a present for dd's friend... and MN.

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 11:14

eek. In middle of cleaning bathroom and came over all weak and dizzy. Have come down and am eating some cheese crackers. Hope they help. feel v wobbly. def got rumbly tummy so hope food solves it.

cyteen · 26/06/2008 11:30
alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 11:33

still feel wobbly. Was v v hot - but had been cleaning shower, so....

Just ate quite large number of carrs cheese melts (yum) and a huge wodge of cheese as well, and have a glass of cold water with me. Need to go back to bathrooms, but don't want to collapse (never have fainted, but am terrified about doing so and not being able to collect dd from school). Prob being a drama queen, but feel so shaky limbed I'm a bit worried.

cyteen · 26/06/2008 11:41

Don't take any risks chick - the bathroom will still be there this afternoon/tomorrow/next week. Feeling faint is very scary and it can take a while for a the feeling to pass, so just sit quietly and take slow deep breaths for as long as you need.

I also find rubbish tv surprisingly helpful in these situations

miamla · 26/06/2008 12:08

albs you should definitely be sitting down and not cleaning bathrooms, especially with the sunny weather today. could you be a bit dehydrated? drinking water always seems to help me feel less dizzy.

Buckets · 26/06/2008 13:21

Yes, put your feet up and sit still for a bit, set the kitchen timer for the schoolrun in case you doze off.
My mum has just taken DS off to play at her house this afternoon bless her, so I'm off for a lie down. Have done sod all else all day but there is a loaf cooking in the breadmachine so the house at least will smell nice. Suppose I ought to at least stick a load of washing in...

TwilightSurfer · 26/06/2008 13:37

ALBS I'm having faint/dizzy issues too. Have only pulled DDs toys out of the car and gathered a load of clothes for the wash. Seems I can do less and less these days. Sitting for a while, getting a bite to eat and a glass of water are the only things that seem to help me.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 26/06/2008 14:17

Expectant, the house stays pretty comfortable year round because of our air conditioner. I'd be miserable with out it. 100 in the summer and below freezing in the winter....

OP posts:
cyteen · 26/06/2008 15:55

How are you feeling now albs?

The shopping has begun Just ordered two packs of newborn size Moltex eco-disposable nappies. Am now lusting over darling little hand-decorated sleepsuits

We went out at lunchtime to get some presents for DP's family (going to visit his sister and her husband and two young kids). Went to a local kids' clothing shop that turned out to be some kind of wanky designer hell - miniature Juicy Couture tracksuits, DKNY logo tshirts at £30 a pop, horrid scratchy baby jeans etc. No thanks! We bought the least offensive thing we could find and legged it

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 16:31

Still feeling rough. I think if dh had been home I'd have sent him to pick up dd cos I wasn't fully with it on the drive (we're both still alive though). Then dd was a little madam when we got home and she and I were both in tears having both been vile to each other (how do i deserve another baby when I'm crap to the one i have ).

She's at ballet now (45 mins left and counting) so i'm going to chill and do the sweeping of the bathrooms. Will wait to do the mopping later I think .

CaptainCaveman · 26/06/2008 16:40

albs sod the bathrooms, put your feet up and get someone else to do it! Of all the chores I intended doing today I have done none. Instead I went out to see a friend this morning, and round to another friends house this afternoon . Not a smidgeon of guilt on my part - my maternity notes say I have to rest!!!

Friend I saw this afternoon is the one with a newborn (16 days old) and he is GORGEOUS. Had some lovely snuggles with him and he trumped on me so we're good friends . Awwww, can't wait to cuddle my own little newborn

alittlebitshy · 26/06/2008 16:42

btw bealcain when you check in later ([hmm am i wrong assuming everyone checks in?! ) - hope your appt went well!

So your ironing didn't happen then cavey?

gaah - you mean we're going to have newborns soon? How on earth did that happen?!

cyteen · 26/06/2008 16:49

Yes, I'm in total agreement with Cavey - PUT DOWN THE BROOM AND STEP AWAY FROM THE BATHROOM. And don't beat yourself up about your DD, she's only human and so are you, mutual winding up happens sometimes and it doesn't change how much you love each other.

Caves good to hear you've got some newborn cuddles in. Another friend of mine has just safely popped her PFB, so I've been checking out the pictures on Facebook - he's another right cute little man. Am definitely getting impatient to meet my own now!

longwayfromhome · 26/06/2008 17:07

albs yes, I feel dizzy really often - the sight of blood definitely doesn't help - do you think it might be possible to actually faint during childbirth? Anyway, lie on the floor, feet on a chair, a glass of coke and a bag of ready salted crisps would be my advice - also don't leave it too long with feeling faint before you do the above as with the baby you don't want to be collapsing.

expectant - it is winter here - hurrah!!! about 15 degrees outside and so although the Argentinians are in coats, jumpers and scarves I am feeling that it is a pretty good temperature. We only have a/c in 2 rooms - and it's not great to sleep with as it dries the air out - but it is usually on during the day in the summer - and sometimes at night. But ... this summer we are going to England and so will avoid the heat of December and January. Hurrah, hurrah, although I suspect that this is not a sustainable long term strategy for coping with the summer heat!

poppysocks I have pitting oedema up to my knees and so far have had BP check, renal function blood test, urine protein test, referral to vascular surgeons, eco-dopplers of my leg veins, compression stockings and a referral to the nutritionists. After all this it appears that that are happy that the ankle swelling is due to pregnancy. NSS.

Good news from the obstetrician today is that the baby is head down and my anaemia is slightly better with some high dose iron tablets. I was also tested for Gp B strep as apparently the law changed recently and it is an obligatory part of ante-natal care for all pregnant women now, which is quite interesting.

DH gets lots of good husband points at the moment. He bought me some perfume (Kenzo Flower, which I really like) for no real reason and is finding coming to my appointments, the ante-natal lectures and talking to his friends and colleagues really helpful as he finds out more about pregnancy and childbirth.

Ultrasound next Weds as one scan per trimester is routine here.

Greetings to all, and positive thoughts for those having a tough time.

bealcain · 26/06/2008 17:09

good afternoon ladies....i am checking in...will clock off later!! lol

to say i am pissed off with doctors is an understatement. apparently the info the dr gave me was wrong. he does not have authority to tell me i will be induced and that i have pre-eclampsia....he's too junior apparently!

consultant said my protein levels are raised but niot severely. ues i have all the symptoms, except HBP which doesn't mean i have it (?) wtf does it mean then!!!

she's more concerned with ym iron levels of 7.8, any lower and it's a transfusion i'm taking iron 4times a day it;s just not absorbing

am so tired today and that is obv. my reason, DH being a complete twat today doesn't help.

SPD is indeed severe (no your joking me, really??) but she cant do anything about it,i just have to rest and not make any sudden movements. right um....so i'm supposed to watch my 15month climbs on top of the mantel am i??

sorry for waffling am just so annoyed, one week someone tells me one thing, the next it;s soemthing completely. what will next week have in store. She's also booked me in for growth scan, but wouldn't tell me why.....she had a feel and then said when was my last scan? well 20weeks ok you need a growth scan. am i measuring big or small? i ca't say? why do i need a growth scan? to check the growth of the baby...what am i a farking moron?!!!

grrrr

longwayfromhome · 26/06/2008 17:18

Oh bealcain, sorry about this, doesn't sound like a good appointment, sending lots of positive thoughts.

You probably know this already, but to help to absorb iron tablets I was advised to take them with half a glass of orange juice and not to take them at the same time as food or coffee/tea/caffeine etc.
