Thought I'd get this started so we can try & arrange something before the beanies are born

I think everyone said evenings/weekends were better and probably central London. So we just need a date & an actual place to meet!

Hi there,

Is it too late to make it 12?

Not much of a poster I'm afraid (more of a lazy lurker) so I'll probably feel like a bit of an interloper, but it would be nice to meet you all.

Ooh - the more the merrier!!! Please come too!

Just booked a table for 11 at Pizza Exp on Bow Street (top end, near Royal Opera House) for 8.30 on Friday under the name of Mary. PoisonDwarf, it would be great to see you too but I'll hold off changing the numbers until the day, as I expect people will drop in and out and I don't want to piss them around too much by phoning them on a daily basis! There'll be room for you whatever, don't worry .

Right, now please can everyone post to confirm on this thread - I'll call them Friday am with the final numbers.

I'm in - I'll put my mobile no up nearer the time in case anyone is massively late etc.

Red carnations all round? It'll be like a blind date, but with 12 of us and all women .

Verso and Effie, have asked babysitter to come early but she hasn't got back to me yet. I'll let you know once she does.

That's great, Chutney. Yes, what CAN we do to identify ourselves?? I am still keen on some sort of identification name-wise as I will struggle with a dozen MN names AND RL names, but can't think of anything appropriate. Verso and Effie and possibly Chutney - so where IS the early meet up?

Trying to think of nice tea place near CG, Starbucks would be dull, wouldn't it? Browns sounds nice but never been there. I maonly know the pubs

Am up for meeting at 6 if someone picks a venue

we can always post our planned outfits - I will prb be the one in the green dress with the bump (colleagues tell me it is growing by the day).

LadyThompson · 22/07/2008 13:46

Browns really isn't that poncy - my only concern is that it could be busy. Here's a link for you to peruse

Bad news I'm afraid. I can no longer make this meet-up, due to DH's aunt & uncle from Oz springing a surprise visit on the ILs! Only get to see them every few years so it's a must-go Sorry!

Hope you all have a lovely time though.

Would be up for another London or Essex meet at another time though!

I'll be there. Will be coming straight from work so may be able to meet earlier (but won't know until Friday). Thanks for sorting out the booking Chutney. Looking forward to meeting everyone....

I will definitely be there and will drink some (rare) caffeine so I can at least make it to Pizza Express for a starter !

Good news = my babysitter will be here at 6 so I can wander into town a bit earlier and meet Verso and Effie for coffee / drink. I think Browns will be heaving, so probably best avoided. Any other ideas?

Report
LadyThompson · 23/07/2008 11:33

Hey, and me for the early meet! Browns was my best shot - I hardly ever go to Covent Garden and am usually to be found skulking round Soho (hmm, that sounds bad). I don't actually mind where we meet. A Starbucks is fine. Oooh, hang on...there is the Covent Garden Hotel on Monmouth St...it's a little boutiquey place...pricey for drinks but we'd only be having a pot of coffee or tea which we could make last ages and it's very comfy...If that's no good I'm out of ideas! I can be there from 6 on, anyway.

Report
chutneymary · 23/07/2008 11:42

The Covent Garden Hotel would be LOVELY and there is always the chance of a bit of celebrity spotting as well! I've seen Graham Norton in there. Very exciting. Less exciting would be the cafe nero on St martin's lane or the Starbucks on Long Acre. I'm happy to go with the majority, though would love the CG Hotel.

Hello - I'm still on for this....will probably have to go straight to Pizza Express as will be waiting for DH to get home - looking forward to it!

Re: identifying ourselves: I have lots of odd bits of cardboard for exhibitions in my cupbard at work, so if everyone wants to bring along a pen (or two if you're feeling artistic) we could do name cards for the table? Or would that be a bit excessive?

Report
LadyThompson · 24/07/2008 11:55

I think 6 sounds good Effie. Mary? Verso? I'm happy to do a name card although I'm not terribly artistic. As for identifying ourselves in the Covent Garden Hotel...er...I'm average height with very blonde shoulder length hair. And, I suppose, a podgy looking bump!

Report
EffiePerine · 24/07/2008 12:15

I am tallish (5'8) with brown hair - will prob be wearing green dress unless wardrobe changes drastically in next 24 hours

oh and a prominent bump as well
