Brilliant, HC, Congratulations. Does your ds know? Is he getting excited?

hoxtonchick · 25/02/2005 12:55

yeah he does know, but was just on the way to meet his cousin at soft play so was a bit nonplussed by 2 excited parents !

whimsy · 25/02/2005 13:19

Congratulations hoxtonchick

Lolasmum · 25/02/2005 15:03

Congratulations HC. And, hats of to Hnnnappies. 3 under 4 and you have your own business! And another one on the way! Very, very, very impressed.

We had some good news yesterday. Dh has got a new job! I was dreading him being unemployed for months, but it turns out that he will only have been out of a job for 11 working days! He's going to be working at House of Fraser. I'm very excited as he'll be getting 33% discount. I like their stuff! We're going on holiday in 2 weeks time. We'll be able to really enjoy it now. If we'd gone with him still having no job he would not have been able to relax. He would have been on the internet every 5 minutes.

He persuaded me to have a 1/2 day off work yesterday and we celebrated with lunch and the pictures whilst dd was at nursery. Today he's kept her off nursery and they've gone sledging and snowman making in the park. When I last spoke to him they were heading of for a pizza. Wish I had taken today off too!

HC - I knew you said you were finding out today so I came here to check! I'm really pleased for you.
So, any idea what names you like?

hoxtonchick · 25/02/2005 19:01

thank you kid! we have absolutely no areas of agreement on names..... ah well, 20 weeks to work it out. ds has been telling everyone he's getting a sister but she's only called baby at the moment.

oh, & just when i was happy & calm, took ds to the dr tonight as he's had a temperature & rash for a couple of days. it's possibly parvovirus (slapped cheek disease), which can lead to problems in mid pregnancy if i'm not immune. arrrrrrrrrghhhh. have to take him for a blood test tomorrow (that'll be fun NOT). am deliberately not looking up parvovirus on the internet.

merryberry · 25/02/2005 20:06

Lots of good news..congratulations on job and scan:-)

HC, parvovirus: very rare not ot have had as a kid. I bet you're immune. I wasn't, got it at age 32, had to be treated at the royal free for a rheumatic reaction: got told the odds of my escaping childhood without infection and then getting it in adulthood. I can't remember what they were, but they were Lottery sized.

Have a good w/e all, xx

hoxtonchick · 25/02/2005 20:28

thank you very much merryberry .

OzJo · 26/02/2005 01:34

HC...congrats on having a girl...and re slap cheek, my Dd had it when I was only about 10 weeks, didn't have a blood test though, the GP just went on the symptoms..ie, red face, then off colour/ temp & grumpy for a few days, then a red rash that went within a couple of days. I was shitting myself at potential problems, but had a bloodtest and it turned out I had had it as a kid...( incidentaly don't ask your mum if you've had it, as they have only started diagnosing it in the last 10 years or so). You're incrediably likely to have had it as a kid, it's very rare to get as an adult, plus you're not in the early stages of pregnancy anymore...all goes in your favour. Distract yourself with name discussions.
Lolasmum, hefty sigh of relief for you and hubby, you'll have a really good time on holiday now.
Hope you're all enjoying the snow! Looks good from afar.

hoxtonchick · 26/02/2005 01:48

thank you too ozjo, really reassuring (good tip about not asking my mum - i haven't mentioned it to her anyway, she'll freak!).

snow=highly over-rated....

merryberry · 26/02/2005 09:54

Saturday consumer frenzy chez MerryBerry, am salivating over:

www.buzz.quinny.com/ (practical if over priced)

www.blossommotherandchild.com/blossomSlide.htm (pointlessly glam and nothing would fit me but hey...internet window shopping)

www.nurturedbynature.co.nz/cotton/wardrobe.asp (cute antipodean stuff think it has a uk stockist)

www.miniature.dk/ (am I playing dress up or what)?

OK, put down the March pregnancy and baby mag and MOVE AWAY with your hands raised, MerryBerry.

laugh

pinkmama · 27/02/2005 17:04

Hi Everyone, its taken me ages to catch up with all your posts. After all our houses illnesses, a visit from my nice but useless father (who then got ill while here) I have had tonnes of work to catch up on and banned myself from mumsnet until caught up. Can't beleive I made myself stick to it. Anyway, glad to hear you all doing well and welcome Hnnnappies.
Ozjo the pointing the willy down at nappy time is a good tip, as our first was a girl, then when we had ds I didn't understand why he was wet all the time until my MIL suggested tucking his willy in, made life a lot easier and drier!
My scan isn't until 23 March so ages to go. All seems ok though, can feel it moving and although still very tire at night, and rather emotional, I feel much better.

lovinit · 01/03/2005 12:13

Dear All ... I have been trying to catch up with all the news and am glad that scans ect are going well . Have been busy trying to find a new apartment to buy or rent .

I had my 21 week scan today. All is great and I saw its little face looking at me (it seemed!). It is sooo incredible and I cannot wait to meet the baby !

AML · 01/03/2005 12:42

Wow Loooooong thread.

Hello everyone.
I'm new to mumsnet so thought I'd just introduce myself. I'm 32 with baby no1 due 23rd July.
Pregnancy was not exactly planned as I was diagnosed with PCOS last Jan. Hated taking the drugs so tried the diet route which seems to have worked for me . Ironically I had just started work on the delivery suite of my local maternity dept (watford).

So after that potted history just a [wave] to say HI.

whimsy · 01/03/2005 15:01

Welcome AML and congratulations

BabyDot · 02/03/2005 09:26

Congratulations AML!!!!! he he,

Just wondered I have got a follow up scan at Kings in London on Friday after getting some high nuchal fold results, not worried as I will handle whatever God deals me, just curious anyone else been to a follow up at Kings?

No matter what happens day to day to get me down I just touch my bump and know that in July everything is going to fall into place he he!

Anyone suffering from stretch marks yet?

Hi ya Pamina,

You don't have to drink water anymore before a scan! what a relief, I was bursting on my first one and she actually told me to go to the loo!

Good luck for your scan, don't you think it is just sooooo exciting!

he he

Lolasmum · 02/03/2005 14:30

Congratulations and Hello AML.

Babydot, my SIL had a follow up scan at Kings. She said she was in there for ages and they had lots of different people looking at the images. Her tip is not to park in the car park as you'll end up paying a fortune. There is free on street parking on the streets 'round Ruskin Park. It's only a 10 minute walk max through the park to Kings from there. Good luck for the scan.

Good luck to you too for Monday Pamina.

I've got to wait until the 22nd for my next scan... still, going on holiday next week for a week. That should distract me. Can't wait.

No stretch marks for me as yet. I'm applying various creams twice a day and 3 times a day if I manage a lunchtime gym visit. Hope they help. Somebody told me you're more likely to get them with 2nd babies.

Did you buy anything on Saturday Merryberry after your internet frenzy? I like the jeans on the blossom site....

merryberry · 03/03/2005 16:40

Yes, but not from the fantasy sites...I got a belly belt and a sleep blster/cushion form bumpto3. Better half thrilled with the log shaped cushion, he doesn't get forced out of bed by stray pillows anymore.

I think my stretch marks are just starting, have to take a mirror to nottom of bump, but reckon they are starting to wiggle there.

Good luck with your scan BD. I have my 20 (aka 24 week!) scan next Tuesday. If all OK, that will be the starting gun on the real shopping frenzy. Mate coming over on Monday though with heap of castoff first weeks sleepers, vests etc. Also a nice Moses basket, yey!

Feel a bit dodge today. Off to rest up, xfx

OzJo · 04/03/2005 02:43

Hi folks,
I've been using body shop coco butter for the bump, and just keeping fingers crossed re stretch marks. Lucky enough not to get them first time round, but mustn't get complacent I suppose...though I shall never inflict a bikini on the world at large ever again.
Got paranoid the other day that the bump was far too huge..I'm 5 ( calender) months...23 weeks, and it feels enormous, but then I checked through the photo album...and I was about this size last time. Then I got depressed looking at how massive I ended up..people balancing beer bottles on the bump etc. Ah well, there's bugger all I can do about it. Dp actually bought one of those belly cast kits, should have a laugh trying to get that done in a few months time.
Better go before mayhem decends..we have a good mate, her 4 yr old son and her mother staying at the moment...all good except the mum is an ex teacher/army type that talks an awful lot...used to telling people what to do..so some deep breathing techniques have been utelised. She was amusingly scandalised that we don't own an ironing board

nutcracker · 04/03/2005 20:37

Just a quick message for Whimsey.

pandagirl03 · 05/03/2005 10:45

Hello everyone

went for my scan this morning everything is good, baby is now in breech position. Didn't find out the sex gonna have a nice surprise instead.

hope everyone else is ok.

Eulalia · 05/03/2005 12:34

Hello - have fallen behind a bit... nothing much happening here - just getting bigger
Not heard anything regarding my blood tests so no news means good news.

panda - great news on the scan.

Didn't get stretch marks with my 2nd and she was bigger. I think its the type of skin you have which determines whether you get them or not.
