On the first birthday present - I got DD a ride on toy. She loves it for all the wrong reasons. It has a flat wooden seat and being on wheels she can move it from place to place to use as a mobile step to climb up on things. e.g. wheel it next to chair, climb on chair and then it's only a short clamber to the dining table. Wahey - look at me mummy - look how HIGH UP I am!

So obviously I wouldn't recommend one of those.

We got DH's god-son a lovely wooden Noah's Ark which also kind of works as a shape sorter.

Swing sounds fun - but rather bulky and may also take some of the novelty out of going to the playground.

TinkerbellesMum · 19/06/2008 12:48

I think that we have learnt to not trust our bodies and instincts because pregnancy and birth has become so medicalised. I knew with both mine I was having a girl, not decided yet with this one, but it's early days - I've only known two days!

lol Clarabumps does your husband know?

Last time I had scans at 6, 10, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23 (x2), 24, 25-30 (3x week) and 31 weeks had two the day she was born! I don't think I've missed any, but there was so many!

I've got an appointment next week, about 8 weeks and will have a scan then, not sure if I will have a separate booking in appointment at 12 weeks (or 10 as they do me early because of past losses) although they may have me in for the Immunology clinic then because it's only on every 4 weeks. Gosh, I know that place inside out (apart from delivery ) now!

LittleMissNorty · 19/06/2008 12:57

Morning all

Haven't been on in a few days ....I feel So awful...MS is def worse than it was with DD....and smelly bottoms are not helping

My scan appt came through today for 7th ....I had to make up LMP as I have no idea so I guessed! At least in a couple of weeks I'll know how far along I am!

AnnieBellyB · 19/06/2008 13:23

IHaveASecretLittleSmile You asked why I am having a c-section.... long story but here is the shortened version!!

DD = Had to have Clomid to conceive, pregnancy okay but then 2 failed inductions, then emergency cs (I had pre-eclampsia)

DS = conceived naturally, large ovarian cyst found on 12 week scan so had to have surgery when 13 weeks pregnant, lost ovary as well, long recovery (with toddler in tow) so had elective cs.

Had lots of problems since, including keyhole surgery in Feb for more cysts and endo. Basically I have lots of adhesions, my remaining ovary is stuck to my uterus, as is my bowel. VBAC is completely out of the question.

I admitted after my surgery in Feb that I have two wonderful children already and was asking for the moon on a stick, but I have always been one for pushing the boundries!! I feel extremely lucky to be pregnant again as they said it was unlikely to happen.

So thats my story in a nutshell!

Annie

oooggs · 19/06/2008 13:25

1st birthdays brick trolley, 100 wooden bricks to build with, I can't really remember and with the dts it was only 2 mths ago

feel terrible and was violently sick last night - off to the midwife for 2pm

littleboyblue · 19/06/2008 13:29

Wow TinkerbellesMum, that's a lot of scans!

McDreamy · 19/06/2008 13:56

Annie I will also be having a section this time as I have had 2 sections, 1 for a breech and 1 for failure to progress & scar tenderness (tried for a VBAC) so it's a cs this time too

AnnieBellyB · 19/06/2008 14:02

McDreamy Are you still having problems with your scar then? Do you mean the external scar?

Mine is horrendous. First time I healed up beautifully but since my op when pregnant and then the second c-section six months later, I've had nothing but problems with it.

I know a c-section isn't ideal but I look at it as a means to an end and just enbrace it - make the most of a less than ideal situation.

TinkerbellesMum · 19/06/2008 14:09

I'll end up having a CS this time as well, probably with a GA because they didn't cut big enough so had to extend up to get her head out so I have an inverted T shaped scar. They've said before I will probably go into prem labour always, so when I do I won't be prepared enough to have not taken Heparin (unless I'm already in labour when it's due) so they won't do an epidural.

Funny thing is I hate the idea of an epidural but getting out of it is just as bad!

TinkerbellesMum · 19/06/2008 14:11

I still suffer with the internal scar, sex can be especially painful. When I over do it or need the toilet it can sometimes I feel like I'm in labour!

BumpVLump · 19/06/2008 14:34

Hey all,
I had scan at 5 weeks (thought I was 6) and no HB, too early she said. I was a little gutted.
Because of my cyst I have to have another scan at 8 weeks, hope to see HB then.
I was told by DR that the 12-13 week scan would still go ahead?? Apparently it is an important one- mind you he was REALLY young looking Dr, maybe he was wrong.
I am thinking I may have to have c section too. The idea of both natural, and C section terrify me!
Annie- your story really interests me, well done for managing to get pregnant again.

TinkerbellesMum · 19/06/2008 14:43

Watch the doc "The Business of Being Born" (someone's linked it on a thread) and see how great birth can be when it's not messed with. My first was like that. I would give birth a 100 times rather than have a section

Jelliebaby · 19/06/2008 14:54

BumpvLump - You seem to have experienced the same as me with regards to the scan, it's dessapointing not to see a HB, I'm 5 and half wks (thought i was more)and couldn't see much, i'm rebooked in for Mon but not convinced i'll be able to see anything then either.

I will be having a CS this time too, I had one with DD due to her size and pre eclamsia but also had to go through the whole of labour and was stuck at 10cms for over an hour while they tried to locate an epidural. So this time i will just be having a CS rather than going through both again...

AnnieBellyB · 19/06/2008 15:05

BumpVLump The 12 week scan is usually quite detailed so I guess that would still go ahead, even when you have an 8 week one.

What kind of cyst have you got? Good luck with your next scan.

Thanks for your comments by the way.

imaginewittynamehere · 19/06/2008 15:11

Jelliebaby, I know what you mean about the downside of going through both labour & CS, I had a fairly similar birth with DD - admitted to hospital due to pre-eclampsia at 38 weeks - waters broke a few hours later. Induced first thing the next morning - took 10 hours to get to 10cm & then stuck (DD was back to back, only limited pushing time allowed as they were worried about my BP) so had to have epidural, whisked to theatre to ventouse which also failed, then crash CS. I am so hoping for a VBAC but was told that I will need consultant led care this time so we'll see.

TinkerbellesMum · 19/06/2008 15:26

I find it funny when I hear about people needing a cs for progressing too slow, I had one because I was progressing too fast!

LuLuBai · 19/06/2008 15:43

OK - I'm not gloating or anything but think this is very importan for the benefit of first timers:

I had an excellent, natural birth! First contraction on Sunday morning, took a shower (tidied up my bikini line - sorry if TMI but thought I ought to before I went into hospital) and spent some time pampering myself.

Sun was shining. We went out for lunch. Contractions around 10 mins apart and only like period pains. Had a large glass of wine - bliss after such a long abstinence and figured it couldn't hurt at this stage.

Went home read Sunday papers. All the while contractions gradually getting slightly closer and slightly stronger.

Around 2am went into hospital, was given cushions, matts, beanbags and a CD player with a selection of CDs (OK a fairly crap selection of CDs but you can't have everything). Around 6am started on the gas & air - brilliant! Then got into the water pool around 8am. Gave birth shortly after 9am.

Transferred to nice clean bed next to a window and had a nap to be woken a few hours later by friends visiting with flowers and presents.

NervousMouse · 19/06/2008 15:49

That sounds perfect, I'll have one of those.

With my first, they decided they weren't sure about which way up he was. Went for a scan at 41wks and was told he was big and extended breech. Waited for 24 hours being told you're next in for the CS, eventually cs was performed and everything was fine. No trauma for me either but I definitely prefer your method.

LuLuBai · 19/06/2008 16:01

See nobody ever tells people about the times when everything goes pretty much OK do they. Too boring. But I do think it is reassuring when you are pregnant. When I was around 37 weeks pregnant and the size of a house people kept insisting on telling me horrific horror stories. I pretty much had to stick my fingers in my ears and 'tra-la-la - not listening' to stay sane.

McDreamy · 19/06/2008 16:13

I had a section for progressing to slow because I'd had a previous section IYSWIM! I was in labour for 72 hours and they said they couldn't do anything to help me because it would be too aggressive, they toyed with the idea of breaking my waters but when my scar started aching they decided to do a section. Not ideal but it was fine.

McDreamy · 19/06/2008 16:15

LuLuBai - sounds like the perfect birth, how it should be done

MarkStretch · 19/06/2008 18:17

Hello all

We went for our fertility consultation today as our GP had advised us still to go as not to waste our waiting time. When we got there today the nurse started her speech about what was going to happen and I apologised profusely and told her I was pg already , felt like a right fraud!

She was fine about it and said it happens a lot. She said quite often people go for the consultation and then ring the next month to say they are pregnant.

She said that if anything happens to this pregnancy they would slot us in another appointment so that was reassuring.

Just walked dd to Rainbows and now I am exhausted. Was so tired last night I fell asleep on my laptop and woke up with an imprint on my head.

Titch10 · 19/06/2008 20:41

Hi everyone
thanks MarkStretch for letting me know you were here now!
I just found out I was pregnant exactly a week ago, first one! Very excited but scared to get too happy in case something goes wrong.
I think I am due 14th or 15th Feb, but not sure - have my doctors appointment tomorrow.
off to read through the thread!
