Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
IHaveASecretLittleSmile · 30/06/2008 21:39

It takes me so long to read through everyone?s posts I?m sure I miss questions aimed at me!

Bumpvlump, I?m sorry to hear your news.

Rosieposey, I?m sorry to say I have little good to say about my time in great Western. DS was induced at 38 weeks for suspected IUGR, prostin caused placental abruption, I had ARM and EMCS. First consultant was great, would not have intervened, second consultant made it very clear we were damaging our baby by continuing the pregnancy. The midwife who examined me before being induced said I was 2cm already, and I would go naturally in a couple of days, but the consultant notes said induce, so she did! That in itself is not a bad indictment of the hospital, just a reflection of the ?intervention intervention? policy of the NHS, but having said that my antenatal care was even worse. I would press the bell at night and it would take an hour for someone to come. So either I waited an hour for help going to the loo or to lift DS for feeding/new nappy, or I just got up, post op, myself. I self discharged at 3 days. I feel for the staff, as there were just not enough of them, especially at night, but I?m sorry, that isn?t my problem!

I?m glad KazzaL had good to say about them.

Welcome back Francesrivis!

And re. sickness ? I?ve been having porridge for breakfast, strawberry smoothie for mid morning snack, eggs or something on toast for lunch, flapjack mid afternoon and tea at evening. Very little variation, it?s what I fancy, but still feel sick.

Not sure of jelly bean?s size from scan, but if I did know, I think I?d worry one way or another!

So, anyway, night now all.

God I hope this one isn't as big as ds was! He was born at 40+6 weighing 9lbs 10oz. That's big enough for me!
Well, I have a scan today, think I'm about 7/8wks so they're checking for the heartbeat. I'm really nervous I hope it's ok. I don't think I'd cope this time if there wasn't a heartbeat as I'm feeling sick and have got big to the point that workers in Boots are congratulating me(!) so have already got a bit attached dispite my best efforts not to.
Wish me luck, it's at 11.20 so fingers crossed and positive vibes please. X

MarkStretch · 01/07/2008 08:21

Good luck LLB- will be thinking of you!

MarkStretch · 01/07/2008 08:22

Sorry I mean LBB, I'm the one with pregnancy brain today!

littleboyblue · 01/07/2008 08:24

Hahaha. Thanx MS. I'm giving up smoking but really want one to calm my nerves a bit. I haven't even got us dressed yet!
I'll log back on later to let every1 know how it went.

theSuburbanDryad · 01/07/2008 08:28

Good luck for the scan LittleBoyBlue - will be thinking of you!

Jelliebaby · 01/07/2008 08:46

Sorry to hear your news BumpVLump.

Good luck with your scan LBB, mine is a week today. Hope your sickness gets better, im 7+4 and had severe sickness for the last 2 weeks, ive got some anti sickness tablets from the dr which has stopped me from being sick (as i was being sick upto 15 times in a day) but it doesn't stop me 'feeling' sick.
Nothing has helped, my mouth is always watering like i'm hungry so im eating lots.

Getting really fed up now and DP's patience is wearing thin. Keep reminding myself that it wont last forever and it will all be worth it!!!

herbgarden · 01/07/2008 08:59

I'm on the twiglets today - yum yum !!! Armed myself with a bumper pack

McDreamy · 01/07/2008 08:59

Morning all!

Good luck this morning LBB, I will be thinking of you

DH is trying to organise a scan for me next week when I will be 7+, trying to discreetly find a midwife too but they appear to be very elusive. If I go and make an appointment myself the whole medical centre would know in 2 minutes!

Still feeling sick pretty much all day, I think the heat doesn't help! It's 36 today

Home to the UK in just over 2 weeks and I can't wait

Hope you all have a good day

theSuburbanDryad · 01/07/2008 09:08

McD - we'll have to meet up when you come home! You're moving to near me, aren't you?

McDreamy · 01/07/2008 09:13

Yes I think so, Wendover! Have applied for house this week so just need to wait for a date and an address! I am coming home to Wiltshire on 18th July for a month and hopefully home for good to Wendover/Halton in Oct/Nov time.

It would be lovely to meet up as I don't know the area at all. Are you being looked after by Stoke Mandville hospital? Is it nice there? I will being having a cs.

theSuburbanDryad · 01/07/2008 09:20

I've had all my scans at Stoke Mandeville and they've been absolutely brilliant. Much, much better than the hospital i had ds in. I'm hoping either for a home birth (if we've moved into a more suitable house!) or I'll go to the Wycombe Birth centre (mw led unit)

No Way am i going anywhere near a hospital this time round for the birth!!

McDreamy · 01/07/2008 09:22

I guess I won't get a choice then as I've got to have a cs? At least your experience is positive at SM

rosieposey · 01/07/2008 09:34

Morning all Ohhh McDreamy i cant believe the heat out there - i'm terrible when its really hot, moan, moan, moan thats all i do lol - my friend call me Casper as im famous for avoiding the sunlight! Good luck with your scan today Littleboyblue - will keep everything crossed for you Ihaveasecretlittlesmile - thats a shame that you didn't have a very positive experience with Great Western Hospital, I had something similar happen at the Royal Berkshire in Reading 11 years ago and its stayed with me since - hope this time its better. Well i think its going to be hot hot hot in sunny Wiltshire this morning, have Virgin tv coming over at some point this morning as haved caved in to the girls constant requests for satellite tv (quite looking forward to the baby type programmes on Discovery health though ) any excuse to sit down with a biscuit and some tea

WarmFuzzy · 01/07/2008 09:39

LBB - I read somewhere that people who get bad morning sickness and sea sickness tend to be deficient in zinc. When I was pregnant with DS1 I found myself constantly snacking on nuts and seeds - high in zinc - to keep it at bay. With DS2 I took zinc supplements (and ate lots of chocolate, though I don't think that's particularly relevant. I'm taking extra zinc now and I think it does help (but I still feel SIIIIIIICCCCKKKKKKKKK).

LuLuBai · 01/07/2008 09:58

That's interesting WarmFuzzy - last time I was guzzling chick peas before I even knew I was pregnant. And they are very high in zinc. Chick pea, watercress and avocado salad every single day. And I never got MS last time.

I've had the odd queasy attack this time but funnily enough I had the same salad for supper last night and feel right as rain this morning.

I love ginger beer and crystalised ginger so am happily guzzling that at the slightest sign of queasiness.

McDreamy · 01/07/2008 09:59

OOh thanks for the zinc tip I will try that - anything to get rid of this ms

LuLuBai · 01/07/2008 10:02

Humous is a really easy way to eat chick peas (with pitta bread or veg sticks).

I've still got lots of zinc tablets left over as was feeding them to my husband when we were TTC (zinc helps sperm production apparently)

Jelliebaby · 01/07/2008 10:48

Is zinc safe to take in pregnancy? Do i just buy it from the chemist?

LuLuBai · 01/07/2008 10:52

There is Zinc in pregnancy multivitamins. Think the only vit you have to be wary of in pregnancy is Vit A.

Here is a list of Zinc rich foods (beans on wholemeal toast with cheddar cheese grated on is a very easy source)

www.vegsoc.org/info/zinc.html

And yes you can buy zinc supplements in chemists - often combined with Vit C (I think may aid absorbtion)

WarmFuzzy · 01/07/2008 11:20

And ginger is very rich in zinc too.

PinkTulips · 01/07/2008 11:24

sorry to lose you BVL, good luck for the future and hopefully you'll be on another AN board soon.

i just flinched reading the weight of oogs twins well done you though, could you even move by the end of that preg?

dd was 7lbs 4oz and ds was 8lbs 10oz, and he tore my tummy muscles so sincerly hope this one doesn't exceed him in size!

i'm finding milky things about the only thing i can stomach which is bizarre because i normally don't like anything milky at all. had risotto last night and it went down really well too. find i'm not legging it to the bathroom much anymore although i still feel extremely quesy 90% of the time.

poor ds is hanging off my legs begging for me to read stories, better go do my motherly duties!

TinkerbellesMum · 01/07/2008 11:30

Rosie, I had to have cervical length scans when I was pregnant and the lady who did one measured me as being 1cm dilated at 22/23 weeks. When the picture was checked by a doctor he said it wasn't even open, so there is always some margin of error on them.

Herb, I think not drinking enough may have been the problem. I didn't know when my scan was so I didn't drink too much (once drunk so much getting there had to run to the loo when I arrived and go to the shop for another bottle of water!) before I knew I was going for the scan.

Size of babies:

320g/ 11.25oz
1.87kg/ 4lb 2oz

Hope this one is bigger! The bigger a baby is the easier it is to deliver because your body has more to work with. With Lily-Hope I couldn't do anything, I had to allow her to come herself because there was nothing for my body to push on. I didn't deliver Tink, but I do know people who have delivered at various different stages of pregnancy who all say the same.

My back is getting steadily worse, I can't carry Tink far anymore and I can't pick her up when she falls I've had a physio appointment come through for Thursday but she said that she doesn't think she can help me much because it's an old injury not pregnancy related. I do tend to end up with SPD quite quickly so I'm expecting them to have me on crutches very quickly. I was supposed to be on them last time but we couldn't get hold of the CMW for some, I ended up having a toilet seat though as I felt like I was trying to sit on the toilets you get in infants schools! Having to catch the bus two stops up the road to the CM because the walk is getting hard and Tink can't manage it all the way.

NervousMouse · 01/07/2008 12:00

DS1 was 10lb at 41+1 by CS, hope this one is a little smaller as I'm hoping for VBAC

rosieposey · 01/07/2008 12:42

Tink i know you are right and now ive stopped flapping about it all and read what everyone has said about the margin for error with ultrasounds i feel a bit silly today lol no doubt ill have another worry episode soon enough though - think its all part of being pregnant and i havent been through half of what you have been through. Dont know what to say about bad backs as have seen a few posts here about bad backs and mine is bad enough without being pregnant - im dreading the sciatica (cant spell it ) which i get regardless of being pregnant.Im taking multi vits from tesco at the moment and i think that hopefully they have all the vitamins in i need - they are cheaper than pregaday too Was going to ask if anyone has done slimming world as a healthy eating plan whilst pregnant? I heard it is really healthy and that you are allowed to do it when pregnant. Am a fairly chunky chick already if you know what i mean ... so am eager not to pile on too much as i really cant afford to. Definately dont want to diet but would be really happy if i could avoid putting on much weight and it might help the inevitable gestational diabetes
