Katz, thanks for your email. I have replied but also said I would post on here my suggestion for luch tomorrow. Basically all I suggested was that at lunch we give our doatios to someone, and they send off 1 cheque to Katz, makes it a bit simpler. I'm happy to send a cheque.

Hehe Yeah we're a bit bonkers when it comes to travellling DD went to Germany at 3 weeks, Barbados at 5.5 months and NZ at 9-10 months. This little dude will be coming with us and the whole family to Germany at the beginning of August and then off to Barbados in November. It's partly necessity; we have family in both countries, partly madness, obviously. It was actually not that difficult to travel with a really little one, she slept all the time and was being breastfed, just needed clothes and nappies.

I can't wait for dd to be in bed tonight, my brain feels like it is stuffed with cotton wool today, so much going on.

Uwila, I'm getting pains in the front of my hip/pelvic bones. Like you, this apparently is due to ligaments stretching. I was just quite worried cos I've heard such horror stories about PSD and women, literally, not being able to walk and having big problems during labour cos they cant open their legs at all. I'm not sure if the physio will be any use yet. I'll be honest (I hope i'm not offending anyone here), I'm a little sceptical about how much good physio's do, as I've never had much success in the past. I think pelvic problems are really common, but mine means that excercise of any sort and i mean walking to the shops, hurts.

Teabelly - thanks so much for your suggestion. I'll probably give that a whirl if it gets any worse.

Lipstick, my admiration for you is increasing steadily. 3 holidays in a year with a baby!! I've been invited to Ireland in Oct with some mates, but that's the closest I'm getting to going abroad in 2005 and i love holidays so much...

Does anyone know how at how many weeks we can't fly anymore, or at least, aren't insurable?

cornflakegirl · 31/01/2005 17:25

hi everyone
just de-lurking, as have been hovering here for a while, picking up all your tips

LipstickMum · 31/01/2005 17:54

Are you due in June too then Cornflake??? I love your name. I used to be a massive Tori Amos fan 10 years ago or so, she was my heroine Wish I'd picked that name!!!

OP posts:
charleypops · 31/01/2005 17:56

Hi Flakey!

Glad you've de-lurked finally, and CONGRATULATIONS!

Why don't go and pop your stats on our Due in June Stats thread?

How many weeks are you? do you know what sex it is yet?

LipstickMum · 31/01/2005 17:57

Jonah, I'm not sure about the flying in pregnancy cut-off point. You're more at risk from dvt's when you fly during pregnancy as I understand it. It could be something like 28 weeks. I think it can also depend on the airline you fly with, some require a letter from your doctor saying you are fit to fly. it could also have an impact on your insurance....

OP posts:
Uwila · 31/01/2005 18:14

Jonah, agree with lippy. It's up to the airline. There is a point after which most of them reserve the right to refuse you entry onto the aircraft. I think this is somewhere around 8 months, but can't recall for sure. Best just to ask the airline directly. Also, travel insurance that covers maternity isprobably pretty price when you get too close. AND... are you going somewhere that you might actually want to have this child? Think what dual citizenship you like to have for the baby... just kidding!!

JonahB · 31/01/2005 18:20

Uwila/Lipstick, cheers for the advice. I was half thinking of having a few days in Paris. I haven't been there for so long and it might be a nice break before our lives are destroyed forever . DH and I have a few days off in March, so it is a possibility......

Hi Cornflake (waves), welcome to the club!!!!

Scraggyaggy · 31/01/2005 18:57

Hello!

It's taken me ages and ages and ages to catch up - again!!

Welcome CornflakeGirl!

Tea - Be careful with all that lifting and stretching awkwardly. I know, I carry a laptop normally and then on my London days I have an overnight bag and a file pull-long thing too. A couple of weeks ago I really pulled my tummy muscles and it was excrutiating. Not good.

Welshmum - Hope you have a lovely evening now DH is home to give you some hugs.

Lippy - Try Ikea for a small wardrobey thing. We got a white wardrobe for the baby's room which matches a bed we already have and then bought a similar chest of drawers (which will double as a changing table) AND baby can have the whole set when they're older too.

Charley - Relax! You WILL get the buggy of your dreams... don't put too much pressure on to make a decision now. When I went to Mothercare World I felt quite ill at the thought of all the decisions I felt I had to make!! So, we decided to have a priority list of things we would need for the first week and we're not going to worry about anything else. You'll meet someone with the type of buggy you just HAVE to have and that will be it then (hopefully! x)

As for holidays, we're having a week abroad in April as a last minute deal, then in August we are going to Germany and then in October we are thinking of India for two weeks. I have the philosophy "Have baby, will travel". It's when they get older I think we'll have all the problems! I'm not worried about the muli-national thing either as ours will be an Aussie-Brit anyhow!

I met up with a local MN-er this weekend and it was ace. (My bump is still the smallest in comparison to EVERYONE so far though... ) We had coffee and chatted and it was great! I think this site is truly brilliant!

LipstickMum · 31/01/2005 18:59

Jonah, You can also go to Paris via the tunnel..?

OP posts:
LipstickMum · 31/01/2005 19:10

Cool Scraggy, holidays are fab!! Where are you going in Germany? I didn't know anyone ever holiday-ed there!! We're going because dp's family are German... and obviously it's a lovely country with great weather! We'll be in the South by the Austrian border. India's an interesting choice. I did joke to dp it would be a great destination for shifting those excess baby pounds Another plus for travelling when babs is little is that hopefully they wont be mobile, which makes a big difference!!

Charley, you sound like me with the whole transport dilema. There's too much choice!! You'll end up with your big travel thing and a nifty Maclaren for town/travelling I betcha.

So glad dd is in bed, what a drudge day. Vaguely mused about going back to work But looking after other peoples children isn't much of an improvement at the moment!!

Welshy, sorry you had such a traumatic w/e. Bet it was the icing on the cake after a long week of solo parenting. We had a gas leak in the house the Christmas before last. It was scary. I know how you must have felt. ANyway, dh back tonight and yo can be all snuggly

Re the bedroom dilema. Lua, we live in a 2 bed, currently being converted into a 3 bed. DD will go into the new room before ds/d is born and new baby will have her old room when ready. DOn't want them in the same room in case dd is woken up by her new baby brother or sister.

I think I am having another girl. I have a strong feeling now. We're just not a boys family. It would be weird if a boy popped out. Shame, we have a great boys name

Dp working late tonight with meetings etc but also coz I get to watch the soaps

OP posts:
Scraggyaggy · 31/01/2005 19:15

Well, it's actually a wedding do as one of my best mates is German. I can't remember the name of where they are from. I'll let you know - it might be close!!

Only another few days and hopefully you'll find out what you're having. Hopefully, I'll find out that mine has a naturally small head, that there's nothing to wory about and childbirth will be painless!!

LipstickMum · 31/01/2005 19:23

I'm not sure I'm going to find out Scraggy, scan put back till a week on Wed because of dp's work commitments. I just have the feeling it's a girl

Germany is great. Watch out for the serious breakfasts; cheeses, cold meats, all sorts of bread, boiled eggs and if you're really lucky, cake! Germans do great cake, torte etc. They also do brilliant salads, their dressings are particularly fabulous! It's a bit under-rated in certain foods I think, those things I mentioned are especially good. Ah, and a good weisswurst and mustard... can yo tell I'm hungry!!!

OP posts:
Uwila · 31/01/2005 20:48

Charley, you can tell your dp's accountant that ther is hope for you yet, as you are obviously not a true bred shopper. My reaction to baby paraphanaelia was quite the opposite of yours. I just couldn't get enough first time round. I would walkinto John Lewis and say, right, we need one of those, six of those and what's that? Oh right then I;ll take three of those. All the while, DH standing there doing the math, turning pale... fear? decision anxiety> Not me!! When in doubt, get them both.

vict17 · 31/01/2005 20:52

I really hope you don't mind me butting in but I just wanted to let Sweetheart know that i'm thinking of her if she's still seeing this thread.

charleypops · 31/01/2005 21:43

Vict, I'm sure none of us mind, you can pop in whenever you like . Everyday I wonder how Sweetheart is. What she's gone through has really taught me to not take my pregnancy for granted. I so hope she's ok.

vict17 · 31/01/2005 21:48

thanks charley I remember her from a particularly unpleasant thread about a b/day present and the ttc thread and really hope she's okay too

MrsWednesday · 31/01/2005 21:57

Yes, I feel the same Charleypops and Vict17. Can't stop thinking about her either.

charleypops · 31/01/2005 22:08

Isn't it sad how a lot of threads go that way - a birthday present thread FGS! Things like that just pale into complete insignificance though sometimes don't they?

PinkArjuna · 31/01/2005 22:40

I've vastly given up trying to catch up. I've had flu and still don't feel very well. I start to feel pregnancy is a handicap. Not to mention I am furious as my putor has lost everything. I have my important files but other than I hate it. Lost everything I also despize windows xp - everything is very little. I haven't got used to it yet and don't know how to change it. I was satisfied with millenium. Oh well at least it works now

I am growing more unfit - is anyone else? I am waddling now and I ache all over. Everything seems to take a long time and bending down is becoming hazardous. I guess I wasn't physically that great before cos of my dubious history but the bad back is going to be a huge problem. I spend alot of time lying down in pain.

I guess I'm just really tired. I hope people are ok. I wonder if there are any more little boys - I'll have to check the thread

Cornflakegirl - I am a huge Tori fan 12 years I have listened to her. Though I must confess cornflake girl isn't a favourite song. I listen to Choirgirl hotel alot at the minute contemplating the whole baby thing. I collect the b sides too - not religiously as I would be broke.

Uwila · 01/02/2005 08:33

Ha, I got first morning slot again. Good morning, everyone! Pink, you sound pretty gloomy. Just a thought, but maybe you should cut out the DIY escapades until after pregnancy. Can you solicit your Dad for these things from now on?

Vic, yes of course thoughts about Sweetheart are always welcome here. I hope she returns to let us know how she is, when she's ready of course.

Better post this before Scraggy beats me.

teabelly · 01/02/2005 09:03

Morning all,

Uwila - I can see this becoming a race from now on

Cornflakegirl - so glad you decided to de-lurk...they do fast trains from Peterborough to London so maybe you can join us for our next meet-up...we have a thread going for meet #2 at the moment, feel free to join in

Pink, Uwila's right you do sound down...you sound like need a chocky fix...solves all known problems for me - even backache

Well just had the most delicious porridge brekkie and am raring to go...not...so I'd better start some work I guess...catch you all later, x

LipstickMum · 01/02/2005 09:20

Hi all,

Hello Vict, I remember that horrible birthday present thread too, one of those umpleasant MN examples where 50+ people all posting at the same time and generally listening to their own opinion just doesn't work (not to mention those members who think they own this site iykwim!! ). We all think of Sweetheart a lot, I remember her from the ttc thread as well. It's indescribably sad.

Hey Pink, sorry you're feeling down, things can certainly get on top of you during pregnancy, I'm sure they can feel even worse when you don't have a dp to rant/throw things at it will pass. Remember to make time for yourself. Very important!! I used to have a big Tori Amos 'thing' going on. Her 1st 2 albums are the ones that send me hurtling into another time and place. I tend to save them for real melancholy moments these days, it's the only way I can cope with them! I saw her live at the Albert Hall once, awesome !

Yeah Charley, I can't believe you're being so restrained about buying stuff!

I'm hoping for a more relaxed day today, we'll see how it pans out, best laid plans and all that.

Uki · 01/02/2005 09:21

Hi
I thought i'd fill you all in, that i had a scan at 18 weeks and everything was well except the sonographer pressed so hard on my belly I squirmed, although at the end she kindly asked if I wanted to know the sex or not and i timidly said "no thankyou" my mum and dh were both upset when we got home for a bit although he agreed he didn't want to find out before. I even regret it a bit but it keeps you entertained guessing
Got a bit carried away and bought a pram on ebay yesterday it's a 3 wheel jogger pram only 9kgs in weight brand new and was only $41 AUS. I couldn't believe it, it still has to be sent but fingers crossed it arrives i think i did well. Even though a cot and car seat should really be first but i'm impulsive
bye for now
Uki

LipstickMum · 01/02/2005 09:29

I am convinced I am having another girl and getting used to not using my fab boys name ... this time round anyway!!!

Morning Uki, are you in Oz???
