Katz, thanks for your email. I have replied but also said I would post on here my suggestion for luch tomorrow. Basically all I suggested was that at lunch we give our doatios to someone, and they send off 1 cheque to Katz, makes it a bit simpler. I'm happy to send a cheque.

Charley, you are making me feel old. I've never even hear dof half the prams you mention. It's like talking to my nephew who reminds me that I know NOTHING of today's music fads.

It's worth considering where you want to take this pram and how often. For example, do you want light little city type (which will come with little not so durable wheels) or do you want to get back in shape going walking/running in the nice summer weather. If the latter, you might want to go for a three wheeler with nice big wheels, and then get a more economical maclaren variety for quick trups around town. And, as you know, there's a volo that lives in my boot, although it's only good for 6+ months because it doesn't recline.

There now, I'm not sure if I've helped or confused the matter more.

Lua - re bedrooms we are going to have baby in with us until 4 months ish and then s/he will share the larger of our two other bedrooms, DD will mov ein once it is decorated. She is very excited about sharing with the new baby though. Plus she is helping with the design. one of our potential plans in the future is to extend and build a downstairs study, the house so that the smaller bedroom will belong to one of the children. but we have pondered a couple of options one is that the larger room is a play room and all the smaller one contains is some bunk beds so they have a play space and a sleep space, or visa versa big bedroom to sleep in jointly and smaller one to play in. or they both have seperate rooms and change regularly between big and small.

On a plus note we have friends with two children who love to share so we are looking hoping that it will go well.

MrsWednesday · 31/01/2005 12:16

Lua - we live in a two bedroomed house but the attic has been converted into a third bedroom, so DS is going up there as there's plenty of space. The baby will have his old room (after it's been in our bedroom for a while). This is only quite small so it's more suitable for a baby I think. If we never get round to moving to a bigger house, then I reckon we'd eventually put the baby in the attic with DS and use the small room as a guest room.

welshmum · 31/01/2005 12:23

Lua - we're in a 3 bed with one small nursery room. We're moving dd into the big spare room over the next couple of months - she's pretty excited about it all and we'll involve her in it big time. New baby will go into her old room until it's sleeping through (please God early etc etc!) and then will move in with her into the big room. We'll then try to make the little room into a v small guest room with a fold out futon etc.
We were going to convert the attic but have run out of time. Might not bother now - lots of money and I like having a relatively small mortgage - means we can do more stuff without fretting too much.

Uwila · 31/01/2005 12:29

We have a four bedroom house, but we also have a live-in nanny and the smallest bedroom is an office. So, that leaves one for us, and one for the two kids. Dd obviously has this room now. DS will join her as soon as he blesses us with the joy of sleeping through the night. Until then, he will probably sleep in a moses basket in the office. I think it will be better for DD if I don't have to go into her room in the middle of the night to collect screaming baby brother. But, DH is a super light sleeper, so babies get banished from our room in the first week or two for the sake of DH's sleep. But, ds will be in our room until I recover from caesarean (assuming all goes according to my plan of having a caesarean).

Geez, I just rambled on and on, didn'tI? Don't answer that! Hopefully somewhere in there you found your answer, Lua.

charleypops · 31/01/2005 12:30

Hi Lua - i think I'd probably move her in now, seeing as she's got a new bed, but keep a designated area solely for baby and have the baby there every now and again so she gets used to not having the whole space for herself. There's a thread at the moment "Bunking Up" on the MN home page which you might find helpful?

Morning Tea! Hope you haven't been overdoing things!

Glad your hubby's back Welshie, pressure must be off a bit now? only another 4 or so hours after lunch and you'll be going home!

Tea - was a witch! (the landlady) Hope she returned your deposit!

Uwila, I'd never heard of hardly any of these buggies a week or so ago, and if I'd already had a child and got one, then I wouldn't even be looking so I wouldn't have heard of half of them either, so please don't feel old! It's just a real drag trying to match up what I want with the billions of things out there so I'm trawling through everything It's keeping me focussed and stopping me panicking about all the other stuff we need to get/get done (for the time being anyway!).

Yes, I've come full-circle as I think off-road wheels are going to be important, but also need a lie-flat thingy, one that has the option of facing me and is nippy and lightweight enough to handle to odd trip to the shops. I loved your volo and I'm sure I or dp will end up with one in the boot when baby's older. So I'm getting there...Just posted a thread on the Mutsys

JonahB · 31/01/2005 13:09

Afternoon All,
Thanks for VBAC explanation. Sorry, should have known that if it has already been mentioned

Lipstick, it WAS a compliment.

Charley, I?m with you on stores making you want to cry. I was hoping that when I gave birth, some nice person would take it away and lovingly care for it until I could cope. Also, my friend who had her heart set on a Jane just found out on Sat that the car seat bit doesn?t fit into her car. How annoying is that? This seems to be a real problem with some cars, that car seats just dont fit in them safely.

Good luck for all those having scans this week. I've just come back from the physio, where they have told me that there is little they can do for pelvic ligament aching. Other than suggesting more pelvic floor excerices. I'm now even more worried than I was before.....

Uwila · 31/01/2005 13:14

Oh, Jonah, Pelvic pain from ligaments. Can I ask exactly what ails you? I get a pain in my tailbone, which is apparently due to the ligaments stretching and resulting in the pelvic bones and coccyx not being held securly into the rigid structure that they normaly are (ie. the softened ligaments allow them to shift around a bit). I've never been to physio because I assume they aren't worth the effort of getting there and missing work.

Is this your problem?

teabelly · 31/01/2005 13:21

Charley - of course I over did it!! But that's cos the men around me are crap...still dh is feeling very bad about it all now so I'm going to milk it for all it's worth, he he he...should be good for a few back rubs, some flowers and a curry at least . Yeah we did get the deposit all back in the end...although she was trying to deduct money for not cleaning the floor space between the cooker and the units...but I managed to stick my bump in her face and ask (not very politely) how she expected a 5 months preggie lady or a 60 year old to pull a cooker backwards and forwards

Jonahb - my friend who just had her baby had PSD and she swore by weekly accupuncture sessions, said it was much better than just physio alone, maybe this could help you??

Lua · 31/01/2005 13:28

Good for you teabelly! Sometimes I am really upset by how big my bump is, but most of the they do come in handy, don't they?!

Lua · 31/01/2005 13:29

Ok, what is PSD? I keep hearing about it but do not have a clue what it is...

Lua · 31/01/2005 13:32

Thanks all for the suggestions about room arrangements! I figure I should just move her now... but since she has been very good at her tantrum skills I 've been terrified of what may happen down the road, when we try to convince that's not just her room....
But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we need too...

I like your suggestion charley! BTW, you seem like you are perfectly ready to be a good mum, and ready to make good decisions!
Don't fret with buggy and furniture you'll get used and like whatever you get in the end! and, as uwila has mentioned before, once they reach 6 months or so, all you want is small umbrella one anyway!

katzguk · 31/01/2005 13:40

why not have the cot in there from when she moves in too, thats our plan, think i forgot to say earlier . Then she should be aware that someone else is going to move in. Baby is going to be in a swing crib in our room to begin with.

LipstickMum · 31/01/2005 13:41

Oh, God. I have just spent 90 minutes trying to book flights for this summer's holiday - complete nightmare taken up my whole lunchtime, need to eat quick before dd wakes up.

Couldn't focus on the posts, which is the most distressing part Will have to write later.

OP posts:
teabelly · 31/01/2005 14:01

Lua - PSD is Pelvic Synthesis Disorder or Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction...in normal pregnancy hormones will soften and stretch the ligaments of the body in order to allow the pelvis to open slightly during labour so that the baby can move easily through. But for some women Symphysis Pubis and/or lower back pain can start as early as the 12th week of pregnancy and can gap slightly so walking, climbing stairs and turning over in bed can be difficult or even impossible. HTH

teabelly · 31/01/2005 14:02

Lippy, did you book anything?? I'm supposed to be arranging something too for the last week of March...may have left it abit late tho!

charleypops · 31/01/2005 14:47

Aw, thanks Lua!I guess having a first baby in your mid-thirities, you're maybe a bit too aware of stuff that can go wrong, and the massive adjustments you're going to have to make for the rest of your life. I'm sure I wouldn't have felt as overwhelmed if this was happening 10 years ago!

Lippy - are you taking a brand new baby and toddler away on holiday with you? Is that possible? Does that mean life doesn't end after having a baby after all?

welshmum · 31/01/2005 15:06

I'm pretty impressed by that too Lippy - where are you going?
I'm hoping to spend August mat leave month in Wales at my dad's house - considered Italy for a bit and then thought it would be too hot and too expensive to hire somewhere. No problem with heat in Wales! Walks by the sea will be lovely though.
P.S. I'e cheered up a bit now - thanks for being so lovely all x

Uwila · 31/01/2005 15:08

But Lippy has her own person GP to go with her. So I guess that makes it a bit safer.

welshmum · 31/01/2005 15:09

Ah-ha Uwila you're so right - maybe we should find out where they're going and tag along

Uwila · 31/01/2005 15:13

Better yet, let's all go somewhere together, and the guys can take turns looking after the babies (and toddlers!). Somewhere tropical?

MrsWednesday · 31/01/2005 15:22

OOooh, tropical holiday! Sounds lovely, count me in. I doubt we'll go anywhere this year, but we're going to book something for next year to give ourselves something to look forward to.

I could do with a holiday now actually. Just me, a pile of books, a sunlounger and plenty of sunshine. Heavenly.

teabelly · 31/01/2005 16:18

Mrs W now I have that mental image in my head I'm never going to be able to get back to work!!!

katzguk · 31/01/2005 16:23

we're off on holiday in aug too with a toddler and baby going to france with my parents so will hopefully be a nice break with DGP looking after DD giving us a much needed break.

I am also looking for a break to sorrento in italy in sept to attend a conference but i'm only taking the baby leaving DD at home with DP and taking my mum to be the nanny!!

teabelly · 31/01/2005 16:27

Katz - your breaks sound great - esp Sorrento - have always wanted to go...have done Venice afew times but would like to do further south next time! Right that does it - I'm going to definitely look this evening and book our March break
