Myjob - I had to claim maternity allowance for my first baby since I hadn't been at my employer long enough to qualify for maternity pay. As Smudgey says, the for is pretty self-explanatory, though a bit daunting at first trying to get your dates straight. You can also download the form from www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Dev_008115.xml.html, but then you have to print it off and post it anyway. The info I had to send in was (1) payslips (2) MAT1B (3) form SMP1 which your employer gives you to explain why they are not paying maternity pay. Obviously if you leave your employer before you submit your claim you won't need form SMP1. You can claim from 14 weeks before the baby is due (ie when you're 26 weeks pregnant).

Everything well here - I haven't been feeling much movement either (am 18w+6 today), just an occasional flutter which I'm not sure whether to attribute to the baby.

Off to look at a nursery for DS this afternoon, thankfully we've found one not too far away that has spaces available.

1sttimer80 · 04/06/2008 13:25

Hi firsttimer 08,

My suggestion would be to give your midwife a call and just ask them when they will give it to you. It looks like different midwives/GPs give the forms at different times!

I rang my GP and they have said that I could get mine between 25 and 26 weeks, so got a few weeks to go. I spoke to HR and they said that was fine. Also GP recptionist said I could just request it over the phone and wouldn't need to go in which is a relief as well.

Hope that helps!

I found everyone, at last. I really should get on here more often.

Great news on the scans for everybody. I wasnt allowed to find out (damn the DH). I still cant make up my mind if that is a good or bad thing!
CSWS I am in West Sussex on the coast. I am hopeing for another home birth.

I cant believe that we have more new girls. How on earth have you managed to restrain yourselves?. Welcome. We shall drain the NHS of all its resources in one month.

Finally some sunshine. It makes up for the constant jabbing into my bladder and ribs. The sun makes everything better!

bethoo · 04/06/2008 13:42

i am reallly dreading telling my boss that i am pregnant as i only started here last year after coming off my last maternity leave! what with it an all male envoronment i can imagine the conversation after this bombshell! just feel as though i have let them down though mw says family is more important. what a nightmare! and the chances that there will not be a job when i get back as all going over to contractors. my boss already goes on about the fact i am part time and he really wants full time employment as there is no one to man the phones when i go home at 2. i jsut wanted to spend more time wiht my ds as she was growing up, did not want to miss his first steps etc!

ronshar · 04/06/2008 13:46

Bethoo, is it you who works for MOD. My sister does. They really are so very unsympathetic to working mothers. My sister was told that wars dont stop because you want to see your baby!!! Dinosaurs.
I left the NHS because of this attitude. I was passed over constantly after I had DD2 and went part time. It is crap. If you try to do the best for both your baby and your employer it really doesnt work very well. It is full time or nothing!
Dont forget he cant legally get rid of you because you are pregnant.

rach010 · 04/06/2008 14:52

Hi All

Had my scan yesterday, all is well. YIPPEE.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/06/2008 14:59

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/06/2008 18:14

I refer you to my last post Jenwa .

sparklesandnowinefor5months · 04/06/2008 18:27

rach010 you have more will power than me i couldn't have dp knowing and me not or vice versa - plus i'd never be able to keep it a secret

rowanmac · 04/06/2008 18:42

I realised I got something wrong yesterday so thought I better correct myself, got my Mat B1 today, can only be issued after 20 weeks not 28 as I said so there's no reason why you shouldn't be getting them.

snowymum huge sympathy, I ran my own business last time round fortunately had insurance to cover being off but it was still a nightmare, got phoned every day about something and looked forward to weekends when we were shut. Had to go back early as my cover went off sick. Sold up 3 months later now work 3 days a week and walk out the door at home time. It'll drive me potty in a few years but while i'm not getting enough sleep its fine.

firsttimer80 I had A Long Conversation with the midwife today at last re my MATB1 - she categorically can't issue it till 22 weeks and as I was ONLY 21+5 today I had no chance - also, she stated she would have to examine me to certify I'm pregnant!!!
which brings me on to my next point..
Bethoo - did you actually say you're dreading telling your boss?? Do you not show at all yet ???
I seem to have developed a waddle today, sigh, and even tho I didn't get offered a seat on the tube last week - tomorrow I may need an aisle to myself.
Scan Fri at the hosp so may have a tantrum there and demand a MATB1. Long time since I had a decent tantrum
Take care all.

moodywren · 04/06/2008 22:23

Flum were your other dc's born in Swindon? All my dc's were, dd at PMH then ds1 at GWH and ds2 was born at home.
This one will be born in Lincolnshire (we live just outside Spalding) and I do wish we still lived in Swindon as the care was so much better there.

Is anyone else really suffering with heartburn and indigestion? What are you taking for it? The evenings are the worst.

My bump is really obvious, I have got a waddle too.

snowymum · 04/06/2008 22:24

Thanks Rowanmac - I don't mind the idea of keeping my hand in at work at the moment, but I'm worried about being civil to people when sleep deprived and new-anxious-mothery. Maybe it'll be ok, just so long as I don't have days like today, when some beeyatch told me I was a taker not a giver (who I know for a fact is swindling a government grant body, the cheek), then later I thought I was going to have a cash flow crisis in August (thankfully resolved now)! Imagine coping with that and feeding on demand. Sigh.

sambrads · 05/06/2008 08:01

good morning everyone

good luck to all who is having there scans today realy really exciting

me and dh have decided to keep it secret that were having a girl it does not bother me in the slightest as i know if i told one family member then everyone will know

baby has been moving loads had a lovely bath last night and it was the first time that the water did not cover my belly ha ha

bethoo · 05/06/2008 10:12

Ronshar yes it is me who works for MOD for all my sins though i enjoy my current job as it is non taxing.
Pepperrabbit there are days when i am not showing at all and others where it has popped right out like today! i usually hide it under a baggy yet fitted top iykwim. i still wear my normal trousers as they are low waisted so bump is over the top.
cant stand it when bare bellyis exposed so long tops all the way!!!

star6 · 05/06/2008 10:45

I'm having my 21 week scan tomorrow morning!!! Before this, I was just excited about finding out if it's a boy or girl... now I'm just worried that all will be ok... if all was well in the 12 week, then it will still be ok now, right?

star6 · 05/06/2008 10:49

pepperabbit - you're hilarious!! which hospital do you go to, if you don't mind my asking? is that the same for all hospitals? I'll be 21+5 on Friday...just found out about this matb1 form, but now I want it!

star6 · 05/06/2008 10:59

pistachio - what did you do? Did you find out the sex???
I really want to know so I can buy baby clothes... there are so few that are gender neutral.

bethoo · 05/06/2008 12:28

wiht this pregnancy it feels like i have not seen the mw as much as lat time round! well nearly my weeks appointment and then every 4 weeks til the last month i think!
little madam making her oprescence known on a morning and night when in bed, otherwise forget she is in there!
what do yo think of Maya or Maia (pron my-a)? still searching for girls names. wiht last pregnancy i had a name before he popped out, maybe this time i will have a few and see what she suits when she arrives in about 17 weeks and 3 days (counting down!!)
has anyone else found out what they are having yet? seems to be alot of surprises forthose patient people!!
