Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Lozza70 · 21/07/2008 18:45

Hi and thanks for the responses, I shall be heading down to the shops for some Floradix asap. I think my extreme tiredness in the last 2 weeks is a touch of anemia (sp), very pale inside my eyelids but will be checking with the midwife at my appt this week.

Have not bought much at all as yet. Just starting thinking about buggy's but at a bit of a standstill on anything else. Not helped by the fact that we did not want to find out the sex so could only buy newborn neutrals and my family is really superstitious about having any baby things in the house before the baby arrives I can just see me sending DH out with a HUGE list of things to get in the shops 10 mins after baby arrives in hosp

hansnava · 21/07/2008 22:12

hi ladies

went window shopping today for prams. we saw a silver cross 3d pramette that we like thats reduced in mothercare. has anyone got one of these if so is it any good. i looked at the reviews on mothercare website and some people are saying its to heavy (which we tested it out and it was quite light) and the chasis became loose after a while but then the same amount of people said it was excellent..

still cant think of any names for boys, i quite like sophia for a girl. any suggestions would be great lol

bethoo · 21/07/2008 22:24

Hansnava
boys names:
Callum
Caleb
Adam
Troy
Brett
Lucas

a few suggestions, originally when i thought i was having another ds i was gogin to call him (now her ) Adam Troy!

4andnotout · 21/07/2008 22:28

Sophia is a lovely name, im biased as im a Sophie !
We were going to call her Darcy-Leigh but i dont know now, i want to call her Evangeline but it doesn't "go" with the other dd's I think we shall just call her #4!!

hansnava · 21/07/2008 22:50

bethoo i had caleb, luca, oliver and dylan but dp doesnt like any of them. its second name is gonna be lee after dp whether its boy or girl so i dont think luca lee will go to well lol.

4andnotout · 21/07/2008 23:01

hansnava my dp is called Lee too, and as we only seem to have girls we were going to use Leigh

jenwa · 22/07/2008 09:04

We liked Caleb for boy, would have had that if this one was a boy. Its lovely and not too many about. Nice shortened to Cal aswell.
I liked Lucas too. Dh liked Dylan but we ended up deciding on Caleb as liked it first time round.

bethoo - not sure it is a limb as it is really high but maybe it is or maybe its my internal organs pushed up there!!!!

jenwa · 22/07/2008 09:05

Oh and where is the sun today?

bigmouthstrikesagain · 22/07/2008 09:16

Bethoo - sorry didn't respond sooner - re. the Jane Tandem - it can feel a little front heavy if you have a big child in front but all tandems have the same issue in that respect I imagine. The chassis is light and easy enough to manage until you have a wriggly nearly 3 yo in front (by which time I had graduated to a single buggy and buggy board). But once your younger baby is 5 or 6 months you can swap the children around so the lighter one is in front.

As I say I am going to have to take the buggy out and see how it has fared in storage. My advice is to get down to a big Mothercare or whatever and try out a few twin/ tandem buggies and see what you like best then see what you can get second hand as there are loads to choose from now.

bethoo · 22/07/2008 09:39

yes i will bigmouth they are so pricey these days! i love my original bebecar i have but Hayden is one of those toddlers who refuses to hold hands and wanders off in the opposite direction so really does need to be in a seat! he would easily wander off with someone else or out the shop! and if we are on grass then i have no chance as he insists on sitting down or picking flowers!
lovely day today jenwa
and great minds think alike for the names!
i also liked Isaac and Isaiah but dp said too bible like for him!
i am getting fed up of not being able to eat, i am livign off cereal at the moment as after i eat i feel queesy so startign to fear eating! of course it is not that bad as it is probably preventing mass weight gain since i could eat chocolate and cake all day!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 22/07/2008 10:07

had some good news - my temp agency will pay my average weekly earnings from the last 10 months for the 1st 6 weeks then SMP for the remaining 33 weeks - thought I'd just have to clima the normal SMP from the government so really pleasantly surprised!

bethoo · 22/07/2008 10:23

that is good news GWTMH CSWS with ref tothe other thread about taking toddler on a cruise, i agree wiht you i could nto take mine on as i would be too paraniod too about him falling overboard! i have nightmares about stuff like that! do not get me started on polar bears!

loulou33 · 22/07/2008 13:14

Hi all,

Lozza - i'm off to the gp tomorrow to try to get floradix on prescription - iron levels too low to manage with just diet. I discovered yesterday that you mustn't drink tea either 1/2 hour before or after eating (even decaf) as the tannins in tea stop iron being absorbed. You must have vit C with meal but oj not high enough so need to eat either kiwi fruit or green peppers to help absorption.
I found Spatone in Holland and Barrett and its much cheaper but it contains the same ingredient as all the tablets (ferrous suplahte) which i am allergic too - they suggested a spoonful of molasses syrup everyday as this is full of iron and dried apricots as well.

Hope this helps - will let you know what gp says, you should get haemoglobin levels done at 28 and 32 weeks to make sure you are anaemic as too much iron can make you sick as well!!

Ekka · 22/07/2008 13:49

hasnava we have one of the Silver Cross 3D buggies - I think I actually wish I'd got this one instead Silver Cross Linear Freeway as the seat can face backwards as well. With the 3D, once they move out of the pramette bit (dd, who was petite grew out of it by 3 months) they have to face forwards and I could have done with a little longer with her facing towards me.... The weight isn't bad, till your dc starts getting big! If we weren't having no 2 I think I'd be moving to a Maclaren type now as its much lighter and easier to steer one-handed.... Still, I do think our 3D has lasted well and its been a good buggy - even when we just had the little vw polo we could fit it in the boot, though there was definitely a knack to it

Still no decisions here about double buggies and v little actually done for the lo - I don't even know which room it will be sleeping in, I'm now undecided on whether to move dd to the smaller room over the porch or to leave her and hope that by the time lo is big enough to cope in its own room the weather will be warm enough that the porch room isn't absolutely freezing.... Haven't even thought about clothes/bedclothes/nappies etc etc!

Oh, btw, my tip to first timers is make sure you all sign up to EVERY baby club you can find - you always get some money off vouchers and they really help when buying the big stuff, wish we'd done that before dd was born instead of signing up to everything afterwards when I got the bounty pack and relised just how many places did baby clubs!

bethoo · 22/07/2008 13:50

has anyone applied fo the sure maternity grant thingy?

1sttimer80 · 22/07/2008 14:58

Hello all,

Sorry it's been absolutely ages since I've posted and you guys have been sooo busy!

Just to give you an update on where i am. I had my 28 week scan to look at the fluid in the baby's kidneys, and it;s still there. The sonograpgher has said she would prefer just to wait and see what happens when the baby arrives. The midwife has asked me to see a consultant so I have that appointment tomorrow.

It's been so crazy at work, and all of a sudden I;m shattered, have horrible back pain, and I think someone mentioned before... the nausea is back (ARGHHH!)

Apart from that all is fine. I did a little bit of next sale shopping for maternity clothes this morning and haven;t even thought about buying things for the little one. once I;m off work though (19th August- counting down the days) i think I'll hit the shops... or more like waddle to the shops!

4andnotout · 22/07/2008 15:26

bethoo I can apply for mine in a fortnight, i have had it for all the others so will get it again for this one

1sttimer80 · 22/07/2008 16:21

forgive my ignorance but what's this maternity grant?

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/07/2008 17:18

Hope the appt goes well tomorrow 1sttimer.

Polar bears bethoo?!?!?!?!

Why do I always feel completely knackered about 5pm, at precisely the time I stand no chance of getting a nap? Can't even manage to nap during the day when I don't have dd (she's been at school then childminder today) as the builders are too noisy!

4andnotout · 22/07/2008 17:22

materity grant They make it sound as though its really hard to get but we claim family tax credits and dp gets working tax credits and we get it no problems. The £500 comes in very handy, this time it is paying for a new gearbox for the car and a double pushchair

Lozza70 · 22/07/2008 18:43

Thanks Loulou I'm off to see the midwife for my 28 week appt tomorrow morning so will ask her if I will have a blood test before I do anything.

bethoo · 22/07/2008 19:05

i never applied last time but will do this time as double buggies are so expensive nd want the phil and teds

loulou33 · 22/07/2008 20:07

I will definitely apply for maternity grant - didn't know about it last time. The form is dead easy to fill in but needs midwife to sign (will ask gp tomorrow) so could be harder for some who don't have good access to midwife care - luckily mine works upstairs from me!!

Emmsy1 · 22/07/2008 21:42

I have my sure start maternity grant form, cant send it in until your in your 29th week.I won't be seeing the midwife until i'm 30 weeks +4 so will send it off then, hoping to pay off the pram & car seat if we definately qualify

Emmsy1 · 22/07/2008 21:45

also meant to say, I am getting very sharp pains in my side, sometimes only on one side and sometimes on both, it seems to be worse if I have been sitting for a while then stand up and start to walk,it seems to be getting worse, anyone else getting this?
