Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sambrands I was one of the few adults that hadn't had chicken pox as a child. I didn't catch it when I was pg (thank heavens but I was exposed once and had to have a immunoglobulin jab in case got it) but I did catch it from DS when he was 3 months old (he had no immunity cos I didn't). He was fine, I was the most ill I have every been - it is like sunburn all over your body and the flu at the same time. Even after it had gone I was a weak as a kitten for weeks. It can cause birth defects too if you are pg. If you think there is any possibility that you are not immune don't take the risk .
I have my glucose challenge test tomorrow, any ideas how I am suppose to measure 273ml of lucozade out with a kitchen jug? I used to work in a lab but never thought to "borrow" a measuring cylinder when I left for such an accurate home measurement

Sambrads - my DD is just recovering from chicken pox and I'm fairly confident in saying that if you're only meeting up with her parents and they have both had it then you'd be fine... if you've had it you're fine anyway, if you're not sure and you're going anywhere near the DD, then you must get tested first. I was told chicken pox is contagious for 5 to 7 days after the last spots have appeared...

CSWS - going back a few posts now but I smiled when I read you were asked if pregnant... went to the dentist today who asked if I were in good health, on any medication, pregnant? Okay, I was lying down and the bump had sunk but she'd seen me walk into the room!

I asked my midwife last week when I should start thinking about getting the baby in a good position by rolling round on my birth ball etc etc etc and she said there was nothing I could do influence foetal position ... that's just not true is it? I know that some babies just will be the way they'll be but you can at least try different sitting positions and other stuff to give yourself the best shot. Or did I imagine hearing that last time round?

twinklytoes · 11/07/2008 07:26

cheers for all your messages. feeling much better after being home for a couple of nights. DH is being rather over-protective and won't let me do anything.

it's the queens garden party on tues. We're not going to go now as don't want to be so far from home. am going to be sending my outfit back can't justify keeping a £70 unworn outfit really.

hedgepig - have you got a 5 or 10ml syringe in the house? that would give you the 23ml with little hassle?

bethoo · 11/07/2008 09:51

so many conflicting things about chicken pox and foetal positioning!!!
everytime i eat i feel sick and i am so tired, was not happy that i did nto eat last night but dp came over to cook food for him and ds yet this morning i noticed he had not washed the pots so although i am physically drained i now have to clean up after him the lazy sod! was i expecting toom much? probably! this is why i choose to live alone in the first bloody place!
not happy that he seems to have invited himself and his daughter to stay at mine on saturday which menas they will eat me out of house and home and she has no respect for other peoples things and just throws her shoes all over the house, moves my stuff etc. i know you may think i am being unreasonable but he pays me nothing for supporting Hayden yet i am feeding his other child who he pays his ex wife maintenance so i find it unfair that i too am supporting her when he is not supporting his ds with me. rant over, please tell me if i ma being unfair.

twinklytoes · 11/07/2008 10:22

bethoo - think you are rather justified there.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/07/2008 10:49

How old is his dd bethoo?

Sorry twinkly - was only a 2 second post yesterday so I didn't comment on your turn of events. Had they identified a low lying placenta for you at your anomaly scan? Glad everything seems to be ok now anyway. They did tell me that if/when I bled due to mine I would need to be admitted until 24 hours after the bleeding had stopped.

bethoo · 11/07/2008 10:52

she is 10 years. i also cant beleive that he still cuts her food up forher and she needs help getting a jumper off, i think she milks it. i sound awful dont i?

SmudgeyDoodle · 11/07/2008 11:24

Twinklytoes - sounds like you had a scary time. Glad you are feeling better. about missing garden party - bet it rains anyway!!!
We're off to France on Tuesday for a week. I've been busy buying little bits and pieces to keep DS occupied in the airport and plane. He's not very well at the moment so I'm hoping he perks up for then. We went to the Drs today because I wanted to check he didn't have earache before we took him on a plane. She couldn't see anything wrong so I think he's just grumpy!
Lots of talk about good positions to help LO get in right position. My MW last time told me that there was stuff to do and one of them is not to slouch on the sofa. I too will be diggin out my exercise ball. Even if I don't go on it, I'm sure DS will love playing with it.
Have good weekends everyone and hope summer properly comes soon.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 11/07/2008 14:23

i'm really confused!!! hospital said i only get one anti-d injection????? help!

ronshar · 11/07/2008 14:54

GWTMH. I have just checked NICE guidelines. All women, who need it, should get anti-d at 28 & 34 weeks. I would phone your midwife and say that you have looked up the correct treatment and you should be getting two NOT one.
Why do primary care trust only pay attention to the NICE guidelines which save them money? I bet they arent too bothered about making sure you have the same midwife all through your pregnancy & birth, like they are supposed to!!
Sorry feeling grumpy today.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 11/07/2008 15:13

thanks ronshar...eek though, why on earth are they only giving me one? the midwife on the end of the phone at the hospital couldn't answer that for me, just said it must be higher dosage or something...bit worried now!

twinklytoes · 11/07/2008 17:48

csws - no probs at 20wks and two textbook pg and birth with the girls, so its all been a bit of a shock.

emmys - good to hear your experience too. am so hoping that they'll be no more bleeds and a normal delivery.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/07/2008 18:53

GWTMH I am getting one anti-D at 28 weeks and one after I have the baby. The dosage is what decides the number of injections as far as I understand(I have lived in two different Health Authorities whilst pregnant so have experienced the differing practices).

So the way it has been explained to me is that some HA give two smaller dosages to O- pg women and some give a 'double' dose to last till end of pg. Question your midwife closely on this. I will check with my midwife as well.

Lozza70 · 11/07/2008 20:21

myjobismum I've had some aches in my calf but to honest I think it's from where it is cramping in the night and it's pulled a muscle.

Bit of a grizzle alert but I am absolutely shattered after this week. Work has been a mare and I've been in the office from 7.30 to 6.30 most days. Then today I drove from London up to Coventry to work and I've jsut got home after a hideous journey home. M6 closed due to an accident, torrential rain most of the way back so the M1 was really slow and I had to give 3 collegues a lift back to various places in London as the trains were not running back to Euston. I obviously offered the lift as I could not see them stuck in Coventry. Both my feet have swollen up and my sciatia is back with a vengence. Grump, grump, grump!!!

So glad its the weekend. I plan to spend it sleeping.

Grizzle over.................

jenwa · 11/07/2008 20:22

twinkleytoes - glad you ok now, I can imagine its difficult to rest but atleast you are not rushing about to and from work. It is wearing me out and I only do 2 days. Also have placenta probs but hopefully it will shift in time!

Hope you feel better soon bethoo, men are not great are they!

jenwa · 11/07/2008 20:23

p.s, does anyone know when next sale is?

accessorizequeen · 11/07/2008 20:42

twinkly, how scary, I hope all turns out to be absolutely fine and sure it will be.

jenwa, I think it's 16th or 17th July, someone posted elsewhere.

I am so enjoying being off work, quite rested this week!

sambrads · 12/07/2008 08:50

thats fab fruity so so happy for you
please keep me informed

thanks so much for the advice on chicken pox it raelly scares me as im afraid of anything happening .

was at the docs yesterday as i was in sever pain with my pelvis he felt the baby and done the herat beat and everything was ok apart from the fact she is breech!!!!!!

on 25th june when i had 3d scan the scanner should the the baby was so far down that i could have delivered now she is breech ???!!!!

i just dont understand it now im worried sick should i be will she turn????

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/07/2008 09:55

sambrads - read all the advice given to me this week re being breech. It seems that quite a few of them are at the moment (you, me, perkypopsy at least), but the general consensus seems to be that there is still enough time and room in there for them to turn over.

loulou33 · 12/07/2008 10:37

Hi all,

I had my 28 week appt on thurs - had very very painful anti-d jab, made my eyes water it stung so much!!(next one at 32 weeks and 2 after baby's born apparently). Baby is also breech but kind of guessed this as kicks very low and felt like being kicked hard in fanjo - ow!!! Mw not worried at all about breech - she said can turn anytime up to birth - but will try exercises she suggested to get baby to turn if not turned by 32 weeks i think. Also been given iron tablets as anaemic (no wonder i've been so tired and i feel sick i can't eat as well as heartburn). I have had allergic reations to iron tablets in the past but i have no choice but to take these as haemoglobin is too low to ignore - bugger!! Right, whinge over, hope you are all enjoying holidays and twinkly, you're getting plenty of rest

DS complaining of getting no attention so must go....
