Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pepperrabbit · 05/07/2008 21:37

Hi all, glad we're all ok and having a healthy moan about being PG!
I have had the leg cramps with both the boys and they're just starting now in the last week or so this time. I hate it when you half wake up cos you KNOW it's starting, but too late to stop the agony . One thing that did help me was more milk each day (with nesquik cos I'm a wuss and milk's horrid ) for some reason the extra calcium helps? I have an extra pint a day....
Also on the teeth thing, I did lose a tooth with DS1 which was horrid/humiliating etc considering I am a retentive teeth-cleaner with the full floss/mouthwash routine!
Anyway, first dentist told me to have more calcium as the baby needs to build theirs up and if you haven't enough in your diet it kind of sucks in the stuff you were happily using in your teeth.... 2nd dentist (with DS2 when another tooth cracked) said that it's to do with the gastric acids esp if you get heartburn, and overnight as everything relaxes some of the nasty stuff can get back up to your back teeth (both the one I lost and cracked one were back teeth) so extra gargling with full on flouride mouthwash before bed is your best protection.
Are you bored yet?
Anyway, I drink milk and gargle a lot and hope to retain teeth and use of legs this time

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/07/2008 22:48

I am very comfy at night .
I have a huge bed with a firm Tempur (posh memory foam) mattress, and a good long pregnancy pillow thing that I sleep with whether pregnant or not! I also make dh use snore stop spray at night, and leave the air conditioning on in my bedroom overnight.

I love going to bed, and am off there right now!

pepperrabbit · 05/07/2008 22:52

Aha, but I bet you haven't had a very large piece of chocolate this evening CSWS
Off to dig out extra pillow...

pepperrabbit · 05/07/2008 22:52

Doh! I meant not !

Emmsy1 · 06/07/2008 06:52

another uncomfoetable night from me! feel like I have been attacked again,I can't blame DH this time as he started his night shift. At least there was no snoring.
CSWS never heard of snoring spray?? Large hammer yes, but not spray!

SmudgeyDoodle · 06/07/2008 12:42

Can totally sympathise with the tiredness. DS has had a few really restless nights and I'm shattered. DH and I are in danger of entering into the who's more tired competition in which I know there are no winners. He's just gone to get some shopping and I've decided to have a few minutes to myself now I've done loads of jobs. This morning, I was out with DS for 2 hours and he went back to bed, had a leisurely breakfast and did SFA. Rant, rant, rant.
Hope people with achey pains soon find comfortable positions. I found last time that having a bath before bed really helped me relax. This time I can fall asleep fine, it's about 5am when I can't get back to sleep and either Dominic is restless, DH is snoring or baby is kicking. Feeling better now, thanks girls!

lilbitmum · 06/07/2008 20:40

Hi hope I'm not too late to join this thread! Due with second child on 21 Oct and just managing to get it together and start thinking about it. Notice earlier on thread discussion of SPD. I had it in last pregnancy pretty severely and dread it this time. I have noticed though that I tend to get twinges if I wear hard soled shoes (like Birkinstocks) but it goes away if I wear something more padded. Currently wearing 'Fit flops' and they seem to be doing the trick. Might be worth a try.

Emmsy1 · 06/07/2008 20:59

Welcome lilbitmum hope you don't get the SPD again, think us pregnant women suffer enough. Your due 2 days before me, did you bother to ask what sex the baby is? I'm alledgedly having a girl. The sonographer said that the cord was between the baby's legs and that she couldn't be that sureI really would love another girl as already have 3 boys, and they can be little swines at times. (although my DD has her moments!)

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/07/2008 21:34

Welcome lilbitmum . Do you have a dd or ds already, and do you know what you're getting this time?

I live in crocs. Maybe not the most stylish shoe in the world, but definitely the most comfortable.

Growth scan in the morning, before diabetic clinic. Fingers crossed he's not getting too tubby!

snowymum · 06/07/2008 21:55

Hope the diabetes is going ok, csws. Are you finding it manageable?

Jambers99 · 07/07/2008 07:41

Morning everyone, and welcome to lilbitmum. I'm also having trouble sleeping - pains in my hips, occasional leg cramps, DH snoring, the lot! I borrowed one of those pregnancy 'sausage' cushions from a friend last time, but didn't really help me as when you turn over you have so much pillow rearranging to do that it just seemed too much hassle.

Particularly grumpy about last night's lack of sleep, as sister-in-law phoned at 10pm for a chat, just when I'd gone to sleep. (Ok, I do go to bed early, but that's because DS is always up at 6am). Then someone was setting off fireworks, and woke DS up. Grrr!

Went to the dentist on Friday, so my teeth are all sorted thank goodness. I really hate going, so glad it's done for another 6 months.

hansnava · 07/07/2008 08:49

morning

welcome lilbitmum im due on the 21st too.

actually had a good nights sleep last night but still tired this morning.

bless my 11yr old niece my belly scared her yesterday it was soooo funny though she was watching my belly for ages waiting for it for it to move. Well it decided to do a huge kick, i have never seen my dn shoot across the other side of the room so quickly in life.

My dp finally felt baby kick last night which was sweet as whenever he tries to feel it lo stops.

sambrads · 07/07/2008 08:54

morning all

im having trouble all day long i have sore back and hip the baby is definately lying badly as i feel she is going to burst through my belly and its so uncomfortable

my next scan is on 17th july cant believe its come round already and is next week !! i got my appointment back in march thought oh my god how can i wait til july !!!

my dh finshes friday and it will be good to spend some holiday time together although not doing anything exciting .

my ds is 21 months and has decided he does not want to eat even chocolate or crisps is a bigno !!!
what am i going to do is it a stage????

bigmouthstrikesagain · 07/07/2008 10:01

At 21 months Sambrads it will be a stage - where your ds is asserting his authority - he will not let himself starve - look at what he is eating/ drinking and see if you can relax any tension/ stress you show can make things worse so you have to be relaxed and calm and that is so much easier to say than do - i know from bitter experience (my ds is very very very fussy - dd will eat most things).

I am getting leg cramps but I know now when they are about to strike and flex and circulate my ankles/ calves in anticipation - that usualy heads them off. I do have a long pillow which I use to get comfy - it is also usefull for breastfeeding.

I am also getting cramps due to settling dd in her newly sorted out room. She had been co-sleeping with me and dh(in a side of bed cot) and due to a number of successive illnesses - Gastric flu 2x, fevers, throat infection and chicken pox her move to her room permanently had been delayed. So it is my task to get her happily sleeping in her own room - but as she calls for me in the middle of the night I invariably fall asleep next to her and wake up at obscene o'clock in the am with terrible cramps and in an awkward position - not good. Really need to get her sorted this week (I am worried about breaking her bed for a start).

bethoo · 07/07/2008 11:46

sambrads as long as your lo is eating something whether just fruit and cheese or junk food i would not make a big deal. as long as they are getting calories and nutrients. my ds and soon dd are destined for crap diets as i live off snacking and salads and really hate cooking as most food i eat is from the fridge fresh. i struggle to cook chips ffs!

i am exhausted these day....welcome to the third trimester.

i am excited for all those first time mummies to be on this thread as i remember when i was preggers with ds and the first night he arrived i did nto sleep as i just stared at him and could not believe he was here and mine. was also paraniod too! but mostly overwhelmed!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 07/07/2008 13:56

hello girls - good old moan from all! really soryr but I'm so far, touch wood, doing ok on all accounts, no cramps yet (though pray what is the deal with the oven tray/bathroom floor for when they do appear?!), sleeping fine - though I have had a maternity pillow bought for a tenner off ebay since week 12...it's soooooo comfy that even DH tries to nick it!

am definately getting staring looks all the time which is disconcerting and a bit weird, but nice getting attention all the same!

we're back into our regular in the sack routine, though switched timings now, DH was getting a bit fed up with us both being too knackered of an evening so now I get a lovely wake up call most mornings - making the most of THAT after reading about all your dc clambering into bed with you!

snowymum · 07/07/2008 14:08

Sorry to go on about more aches and pains, but I have excruciating pain in my sternum. It's always popped and cracked if I have a good stretch and arch my back backwards, but now it's permanently painful - a nasty, sharp, burnimg, tearing pain. Any idea what the hell it can be? I like to think it's the weight of my humungous boobs, but whilst they've grown they're not that big! Ouch.

hansnava · 07/07/2008 14:39

snowymum sounds like the horrid uncomfortableness (if thats a word) of heartburn. ive been getting that sort of feeling alot lately. gaviscon by the bottle has been working for me.

ronshar · 07/07/2008 15:06

It sounds like indegestion. It is caused by your uterus pressing up against your stomache. Not much you can do about it unfortunatedly. Try eating little and often, dont eat before you go to bed (laying down really makes it worse) also I find as long as I dont get too hungry I am ok. i suffered really badly with DD1 but so far so good. Touch wood.

Dh is always asleep as soon as he hits the pillow so nightime action is mostly out for us. Dh is a morning person so it does cramp the style some what when you know a small child is about to shout because she has the wrong spoon for her breakfast! I think I would rather my DD1 didnt find out what the doggy postion is by walking in on her pregnant mother & father enjoying a bit of morning fun.

ronshar · 07/07/2008 15:06

Oh dear my spelling is shocking today!

perkypopsy · 07/07/2008 15:27

Hi everyone
I have a long pillow too - was £5 from argos - a friend bought it for me as she loved it during her PG. However, as hassanava says it is like wrestling with a crocodile when turning over in the night.

For those of you with pain when turning over in bed I got told at the back clinic to turn arm at same time as hips so your body rolls in one go - is amazing what a difference it has made - I think it must be twisiting that really hurts the back of my pelvis. Managed a long walk at the weeken - was soooo proud of myself - even though was puffing and panting and totally unable to get off couch yesterday

Did anyone watch the tennis? Poor minipops went through the mill with my adrenaline levels - best match i have watched...ever...did a lovley roast which was then ruined cos I was too engrossed

bethoo House was AMAZING wasn't it????

snowymum · 07/07/2008 16:30

Heartburn - aha! I am such an innocent. Thanks, chaps! To the chemist!

Sallypuss · 07/07/2008 17:28

Evening all

Welcome to lilbitmum. How have you managed without this forum for so long?!

Girlwiththemouseyhair - the deal with the oven tray/bathroom floor is that when you get cramp in your leg you're supposed to put your foot on a cold surface (hence the try/floor) and it's supposed to relieve the spasm. Bizarre I know.

Had my 25 week midwife appointment today. All is well and heard a really strong heartbeat. Hadn't felt LO move much over the last couple of days after about 4 weeks of really strong movement so was very reassured to hear the heartbeat. Feels like my pregnancy is zooming past now, bit strange really as those first few weeks seemed to go so slowly.

Hearing your stories, I must work on some action in the bedroom department. It's been very easy to get out of the habit...feeling like a beached whale isn't really helping the old libido much either....

star6 · 07/07/2008 20:25

hey, haven't posted here in a while.. I'm 26 weeks and noticed slight clear-ish discharge from breasts past few days - not a lot, but little spot on my nightshirt when I wake up in the morning and a bit on my bra at the end of the day as well.
Dr told me on the phone that I've probably "imagined it", but I haven't!!
My question is... have any of you had this at such an early stage? And if not - could it be an infection or something? I just want to make sure it's nothing to worry over. Thanks!

tedmundo · 07/07/2008 20:29

Evening mummies (and mummies to be)

sambrads - try not to worry about the hunger strike. My ds (17 months) is a terrible eater. We see the dietician at the children's hospital for him and her mantra is always that ANY food has some goodness in it so just let him eat whatever he wants for the time being til he comes out of this little stage. There was a programme on tv a while back called My Child Won't Eat. It is still stored on our hard drive, unwatched, as I cannot bear to see it - I know it will have me in pieces. Your ds has been a good eater in the past, yes? So it is surely just a phase that the little darling is putting you through!

For anyone with aches and pains - if you are feeling like treating yourself, get a memory foam mattress. Ours is a life saver and my terrible hip pain eases as soon as I climb into bed. I also have a wedge shaped pillow to hold my bump up that helps too.

I lurk most evenings even if I don't post much and have been wetting myself over the sex talk. Ladies - some of you are naughty minxes! Recent activity in that area has produced some strange aches and cramps for me so I am wary at the moment of being too frisky. Anyone else feeling like this?

Welcome to newbies and congrats on all the scans that are going on. We are getting there ...
