mybabysinthegarden · 28/06/2008 20:17

bethoo, I diligently organize myself on my side every night propped up with pillows and then wake up every morning flat on my back. I think it's supposed to impede your breathing somehow but it's soooo much more comfy.

I'm another one considering a homebirth--my hospital birth with dd was fine but I'd really like to give it a go. dh is very against and we keep having these pointless circular conversations about it but I'm going to keep working on it.

Oh and emkay, my dh is a similar proponent of maternity dungarees a garment that hides your great pg boobs, emphasizes all the other bits of you that have gotten fatter, and takes precious extra seconds to get out of when you need a wee what are they thinking??

Ekka · 28/06/2008 21:54

mybabyisinthegarden we're hoping to have another homebirth, dh was not certain about it the first time round, but after reading the AIMS booklet about homebirth which has a bit about the stats etc, he was reassured. If its the mess etc he's worried about, it doesn't have to be a problem - you can buy cheap waterproof dust sheets from b&q to cover anything you are worried about and get some old cheap towels from a charity shop that can be binned once used. I think dh actually enjoyed the homebirth as it meant that he was able to watch the cricket all day while I was having contractions!

bethoo - I was told by my midwife that we shouldn't lie on our backs from about wk 14 as the weight of the baby presses down on the blood vessels down your spine (think thats what she was on about). Not sure whether its bad for you or the baby (or both) but I keep waking up on my back as well - despite the fact that I would normally NEVER sleep on my back - i've always slept on my side since I was tiny!

I got my first whole day 'off' from dd since she was born yesterday - went to my sister's graduation and spent the day with her & my family. It was a great day and nice to be able to relax without either having dd wanting to play, or feeling that I should be doing stuff round the house! But my feet are killing me (shouldn't have worn such high heels) and I did enjoy getting back to see dd in the evening and getting lots of cuddles . Did make me wonder why I'm setting myself up for another year as a human milk factory though

mybabysinthegarden · 28/06/2008 22:40

Thanks ekka, what is the AIMS booklet? DH definitely most worried about what happens if it goes wrong rather than mess etc. (Though our flat is quite small... and I'm not sure what the upstairs neighbours will think if I'm making buffalo noises like last time...)

Emmsy1 · 29/06/2008 08:18

Hi girls, hope every one is well.
I have put on 1 & 1/2 stone so far so really feel like a porker at the moment! I also bumped into someone the other week that I hadn't seen for a while and was told I had "gone all chubby" I started dieting for 1 week after that but just couldn't keep it up! I have been getting braxton hicks for a few weeks, mainly when I overdue it, I had them quite a lot when I was pregnant with my little girl, but didn't get any with my boys, so really hope the sonographer's 60% guess that it's a girl is right! sambrads congrat's on the scan, I would love to have one but just can't spare the cash at the momemt.

No weight gained here, but before you all do faces remember that I was a fat porker before we started, and I can't stuff my face because of the GD.

Bad news on our planned building works. Quotes have come in at double their initial estimate, so we can't afford to do all the work. Think we will forgo the new conservatory, but v about it, esp as it will still cost far more than we wanted to spend.

minervaitalica · 29/06/2008 11:29

I still cannot believe some of you have put on nothing!

I have put on 7 kgs and have been in maternity clothes mainly since April (which is really boring, especially at work). My bump is huge, and keeping down there tidy is becoming harder now. I suppose my only saving grace is that all the weight seems to have gone mainly on the bump...

4andnotout · 29/06/2008 11:54

I have put on about 9lbs, but im a fatty to begin with

Lozza70 · 29/06/2008 13:11

Oh dread to think what weight I have put on but am avoiding the scales! Been wearing maternity clothes for quite some time and starting to get used to people commenting on the size of my bump and the size of my boobs They must have been tiny before to get such a reaction.

I've been falling asleep on my side but waking up sometimes on my back. I tend to get more kicks from sprogett when I'm on my back. Not sure if I am having any Braxton Hicks but if I get out of a chair too quickly I do feel a bit of a pull low down so I'm trying to remember to be a bit more careful.

Ekka · 29/06/2008 19:43

mybabyisinthegarden AIMS is short for 'Association for Improvements in Maternity Services'. Though I think I was actually thinking of the NCT booklet (oops!) which you can get at their shop on this link - Home Birth. There is also a book on the nct site Homebirth a practical guide which probably gives more detail if you need additional persuasion, though I've never looked at that one.

CSWS You can update your stats as we've had our scan on Wed and all seemed fine - we're going for a surprise again this time.... Hope you had a great time in France....

Have been very tired today... DD has chicken pox and was up for most of last night finally falling asleep again at 7 am. Every time I settled her I'd go to lie down only to have Junior No.2 dance the tango in my tummy. I did think, 'so this is what having two is going to be like... you just sort one and the other kicks off'. No pun intended!
Very glad DD is having chicken pox now and not around time of the birth but it's still hard watching her being so uncomfortable.

Those of you with experience of home births who have existing children, did you still get someone round to look after the DCs while in labour, or not bother? I'm trying to imagine being in the throes of labour with DD wanting attention or wondering what's going on.

ronshar · 30/06/2008 09:46

My bump has expanded to the extent that I was having a bit of a tidy up of the lady garden and only realised whaen I got out of the shower that I had gone for the number one look instead of the normalslightly bushy look!!!. Dh thought it was a welcome home from France pressie. I didnt have the heart to tell him his DW has turned into a whale again!

I am off to the chiropractor now. Every 4 weeks for pelvis and spine realinement. I hurt my knee yesterday. My ligaments have finally loosened.
Be careful of standing up to quickly everyone.
Did everyone have a good weeekend.

jenwa · 30/06/2008 13:03

Ive just been to my sis in laws to sort cat whilst they away and cleaned up cat poo. I did wear gloves and washed hands well after so I am supposing I am ok. Just know there is an issue with toxoplasma (however you spell it) and hoping its ok if you wear gloves etc or can I get out if and tell DH that I am not allowed anywhere near it
hehe!

jenwa · 30/06/2008 13:04

ekka congrats on scan by the way. Glad all well.

bethoo · 30/06/2008 13:55

jenwa you are safe if wearing gloves. most people are immune anyway to the toxythingy as we have prob been exposed previously.
i am back at work and just managed to ctch up, not bad considering it wa a weeks worth but then thatjust goes to show how quiet it usually is here! i love my job!!
i think third trimester starts at 26 weeks though not too sure as the first two are 13 weeks i am sure then after thatthe last trimester is 14 weeks as officially 39 weeks is full term i think. well if yoiu have a baby at 39 weeks there is no need for extra care or am i far out there? so i too am officially 6 months today! and the tiredness is certainly coming back, well more out of breath these days!

snowymum · 30/06/2008 14:56

Hello all - I'm week 27 this week so officially in the third trimester - wheee!

I have been v organised, too, and have bought almost everything i can think of needing, and most of it from ebay / ikea. In all, including absoultely everything, we've spent £750 - that's huge piles of clothes from newborn up to 6 months from ebay, 30 reuseable nappies and accessories, pram, car seat, cot plus mattress, bedding, birth pool, stuff from Boots, breast pump - you name it (i've been taking notes for months from all the threads marked 'what do i need for baby'!)

Gotta love ebay - i got a huge box this morning of boy's clothes which I won for £8.50 plus £10 postage - little Gap jacket, M&S cord coat, 10 trousers, about 30 babygros, about 30 t-shirts - it's so amazing what you can get. I love a bargain.

The only thing is that now there's 3 whole months to go, and I've bought everything -what am I going to do next?! Practice my hypnobirting, I suppose...

accessorizequeen · 30/06/2008 16:16

Really, 3rd trimester already? I'm 27 weeks on Weds, argggh, feel like I should be rushing around manically tidying things. Got the week off work (well, 3 days as I'm p/t) and so much to do! Well done with your budget & purchases snowymum, I think many people (inc. me!) would spend 3 times that! I've been looking at bundles on ebay for girl twin, but everything's so pastel pink, I like brights! Bought 3 sleepsuits today though at charity shop for next to nothing so might keep on with that.

OP posts:
Ekka · 30/06/2008 16:47

Goodness, everyone sounds really prepared! We've done nothing so far.... I've looked at double buggies on the internet, but apart from finding some really expensive ones that nearly gave dh heart failure, no other progress

About the only thing we've done is buy paint to decorate our 4th bedroom which is going to become dd's room soon; when we get around to painting that is!

Mind you I've decided that cute toys etc are a waste of money - dd is currently totally happy playing with my car keys, some wires for our dvd player and trying to put a cd into said player (she hasn't quite got the knack yet!). She is surrounded by her bright, colourful, educational toys and ignoring the lot of them!!!!

Ekka · 30/06/2008 16:58

accessorizequeen do you have any relatives/friends in the US? There is a great online shop that my SIL uses called Gymboree which has lots of bright things as well as the pinks/pastels.... We're lucky in that we get loads of hand-me-downs from her as her dd is 1yr older than mine.

Actually having looked at the website, it seems they do ship to the UK, but I've no idea of customs charges/cost etc.... Great clothes though, its just nice to have something different

snowymum · 30/06/2008 17:21

I know what you mean about the pastellyness - I now have a million light blue sleepsuits and I swore I would avoid baby blue at all costs! But I figure he can just be sick on them and I'll chuck 'em. The latest batch I got for £8.50 had 55 items so that's, let's see, 15p an item! Hee! I like the idea that I could go for a week without doing any washing at all...

Not on the saving money front, I've knitted a toy bear and a cardigan. They turn out to be the most expensive things I've got - yarn is really pricey! Still, was nice to do, and i'm absurdly proud of them. hope they don't fall to bits on first wearing!

rosebury · 30/06/2008 19:36

Evening ladies gosh you all sound as though you have been very busy getting everything ready especially snowymum as you even know how much you have spent.

I t is feeling great being 26wks we are counting down now ladies. I think that my hands and feet are swollen up today anyone got any ideas on how to stop it?

hope everyone is well be back later.

Lozza70 · 30/06/2008 20:02

Hi Rosebury I've been getting the odd day with swollen feet and have been lying on the sofa with my feet up on the back which seems to sort it out in about an hour. Cold water seems to do the trick for puffy hands.

accessorizequeen · 30/06/2008 20:23

Gymboree looks great, ekka, but don't know anyone in the US just oz and we have Pumpkin Patch here now! I have found some lovely bright things but they cost a fortune. H&M v.good for colourful clothes, I buy a lot of the ds's stuff there but can't justify new really for the dt's! With no.3 & 4 I am getting really fussy as it's my last chance, and poor boy twin will have all hand me downs from his brothers anyway!
The MB urban is v. expensive, I'm trying to find a 2nd hand one near me as they last forever (we have a single now) tho mil has offered to pay. I think the out and about nipper fantastic value for a double 3 wheeler but won't fit through the front door!
Well done on the knitting too snowymum, I started a cross stitch thingy for ds1 and it's not finished 5 years later!
I bought some gel from boots which helped a lot with swollen ankles etc but elevation best tip really.

OP posts:
rosebury · 30/06/2008 21:52

Thanks access and lozzo putting feet up easier said than done but I know that I have to keep it to a minimum otherwise I will pay the price later. I wonder if the gel was wome kind of cooling thing what was it access or what section was it in.
