I sympathise with everyone's housing woes we're hoping to complete on a house shortly but it's pretty derelict and the chances of it being ready to move into before October are low taking on major building project just as dc2 is on the way, whose great idea was that?

accessorize-- I have 1 dd who just turned 18 months. She's very fond of babies at the moment, which I'm hoping will extend to dc2!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 25/06/2008 14:56

ugh ronshar how rubbish - when we were in our 1 bed very small flat hubby used to say we could have a baby there (and he wasn't joking!)...thank god we live in a two bed now (though still renting, boo)

bigmouth I'm apparently Rh Neg so have to have the anti D injections - not worried about it to be honest, seems pretty straight forward and decent reasons behind it, also safe enough for me and baby. Trouble is when I was born my mum was told I was positive, so having more tests done to see what I really am! ridiculous isn't it?!

I've started to think a bit more seriously about home births having been to hospital last week and a very frazzled midwife forgetting things and apologising because of lack of staff - and this is at a very reputable hospital! anyone know how guaranteed it is that you will get a midwife if you have a home birth?

jenwa · 25/06/2008 16:25

GirlWithTheMouseyHair When I had dd1 it all started at home but ended up in hosp as she did not want to come out , anyway, the midwives were fab, they are a community team and you should get to meet alot of them if you request a HB as my widfeife made sure I saw a different one for each appt in the likehood one of them would come out for the birth. When you go in to labour you ring ambulance control and they contact the MW on call who then calls you to see how you are and assess whether they need to come straight out. They were all lovely and it was nice and relaxed (until dd1 was not coming and I was getting too tired)
Anyway, mention in to your local MW and see what they say, especailly with your Rh Neg as that may put you in a different situation as they may prefer for you to be in hosp, but I am not sure about that so it would be good to have a chat to them. They all seem very encouraging of HB's though. My DH was worried about HB but the MW was so laid back about it he then became too.

Sorry for those with housing probs. I think men in general are abit like that and dont have the same thoughts we have like making sure room ready for new baby and sorting stuff etc. If it was a football match or a visit to the pub they would soon shift!!!!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 25/06/2008 16:50

thanks for that jenwa - DH is most adamant we should go to hospital, maybe I'll talk it through with midwife then talk to him about it...

Lozza70 · 25/06/2008 19:36

Hi everyone. Feeling like I'm getting really big now and it is becoming more difficult to dress for the office and still look vaguely professional!

Our 3rd wedding anniversary today but DH is away in the Hague on business On the positive side I did get DH pressie sorted today as I got Gordon Ramsey to sign a cookbook for him, DH is a massive Gordon fan and I'm hoping to be the lucky recepient of the dinners he will now cook me

loulou33 · 25/06/2008 19:41

Hi bigmouth - yes i'm o neg (the universal blood donor apparently although i haven't given blood for years. Dh is A pos so had anti-d last time and will need to this time. Ds is o pos so i'm guessing this one will be too....

anti-d was very painful last time and yes, it was a big needle and very slowly administered (could have been sadistic midwife mind you!! and left with big lump for 24 hours - ouch!!! here's to several of those jabs then....

hedgepig · 25/06/2008 20:23

I'm RH neg as well. I had an injection earlier in the pg for a bleed and it wasn't too bad, I think it just depends on the skill of the person giving the injection.
I had a very interesting conversation with DS this evening (age 4 3/4 will be 5 when the LO comes). He has been totally neutral as to the sex of this baby up until now but to night he declared if it was a girl he wasn't helping! and he wanted a boy. OH help I so want him to be happy with his sibling.

sambrads · 26/06/2008 09:27

hello everyone went for 4d scan last night it was amazing
i was in there getting scanned for 50 mins as the lady that scanned me forgot what time it was and the people that were booked in after us were so pissed off

i asked her what we wer having to confirm what everyone else told us and she said its 100% a hamburger

i am so so chuffed that i am getting my wee girl she is just gorgeous and is the image of my ds in his 4d scan .
now when she kicks me i can imagine what she looks like

she weighs 2lbs 2ozs

Alexa808 · 26/06/2008 11:00

How nice sambrads, congratulations. The scan sounds lovely. Can you really see nails and hair, etc? I've seen some amazing pictures...also of facial expressions, etc.

ronshar · 26/06/2008 11:21

Cool scan Sambrads. I am .

Jenwa you are so right if a mate phone up about going down the pub DH can make a split second decision!

TGWMH. I had hospital with DD1 & home birth with DD2. I can honestly say I could not have had two totally different experiences. DD1 was hard, induced, epidural, ventouse delivery after 28hours, no sleep in ward & lack of midwives. DH hated it found it hard to bond with both me & DD1, forget having sex for ages.
DD2 was at home, 8hrs of very gentle pain only used Tens. DH loved it, he spent his time reading the paper making bacon sandwiches, he was able to pick up DD1 from school and take her to my mums. delivered DD2 in the living room with the sunshine streaming over us. I had a shower in my own bathroom, had a cup of lovely tea and a sandwich. Everyone came round and left soon after. It was perfect. Midwife was fantastic. Just let me get on with it. But I trusted her completely, which really helps.
You are more likely to get a dedicated midwife at home than in hospital due to shortage and there are more community midwives around now!
It is a very individual decision to make. Try taking DH to hospital and looking around. See if you can pick a busy time. That should put him off. Seriously though, you both have to be happy but ultimately it is you who has to GIVE BIRTH and if you are more comfortable at home then your labour will be much better, less painful and quicker than if you go to hospital and dont really want to just to please DH.

sambrads · 26/06/2008 13:19

alexa the scan was amazing i seen her nails and her eyes it really was amazing she is gorgeous at one point she was blowing kisses the scanner could not believe it

perkypopsy · 26/06/2008 14:00

Hi Everyone, just back from antenatal back clinic - was quite good - hope I can learn to turn over in bed without crying out in pain [GRIN]. Sounds like all going well for everyone. I haven't considered a home birth - can't get the picture out of my head of me in my lving room infront of eastenders grunting and moaning with arse in the air for all to see - would never be able to sit in there without blushing with shae again . Off to see harlow and stevenage wards this weekend - sounds like might be an eye opener!
Keep having people asking if I'm having twins or if I'm nearly there - grrrrrrrrrr - feel like a fat bloater...speaking of fat bloaters I made mistake of weighing myself for first time since getting PG....don't know what is normal but have put on more than a stone - thought I was wearing the PG quite well til then...popsy shuffles off for tea break....no more biccies for me . Can't believe will be in third trimester next week - time is really flying now - getting worried about the birth (i.e. grunting and moaning with naked arse in air) ho hum

perkypopsy · 26/06/2008 14:01

p.s. sambrands v. of your scan!!!

sambrads · 26/06/2008 15:33

perkypopsy how did you get referred to the back clinic ??
i have bone fusingon my spine and am geting an operation after having this baby i am in so much pain i also have siatica 9(cant spell) in my left leg and im just being left to deal with been offered some paracetomol which are crap

perkypopsy · 26/06/2008 16:58

Hi sambrands doc referred me - think she thought was easier than tackling my heart problems . Got a letter about this workshop at the Hospital - was in a group and I was sceptical but actually really useful info so don't think I'll need to see a physio afterall - mine was at Welwyn QE2 but must be same thing at many others - doing group sessions saves them money doesn't it . I also tried on a maternity belt which isn't pretty but great for support when standing/walking - have to buy own of course (£30)!

hi everyone. hope u r all ok. sambrads sooooooooooooo of ur scan would love to have one of them.

toe still hurts lol. i think i might of upset baby last week when i said on here its kicks r pathetic coz its been booting me ever since then and all the time too lol.

getting really big now. also think i mkight be getting spd again

hansnava · 26/06/2008 19:48

p.s does ne one if its ok to use tens machine for labour if ur going for vbac?

accessorizequeen · 26/06/2008 20:08

perky, a stone perfectly normal in fact I would have said less than normal so no need to worry.!

hans, I had vbac and used tens throughout it was absolutely fine. The cords got a bit complicated (with monitoring as well) but no problem other than that. It did help, too, I only had that plus g&a.

sambrads, sounds like you got your money's worth with that scan, you'll be cooing for weeks!

myjobismum, it is lovely when your toddler is interested, they're so sweet. DS1 (4.6) gave the dt's a cuddle tonight and said I love you little babies!

OP posts:
hedgepig · 26/06/2008 20:36

Accessorisequeen how did you find the constant monitoring? I'm planning a VBAC this time but I'm worried I will have to stay still cos of the monitor. I suspect it is incompatible with the pool for pain relief

sambrads you 4D scan sounds really good. Was it very expensive?

sambrads · 26/06/2008 21:12

my scan cost me £240 which is expensive as there is only one place in northern ireland that does it but i definatley think its worth it

so what is the low down on strech marks ??
i have loads from ds so not bothered this time round as no cream oil lotion or anything helps at all .

they are definately mummy marks

hedgepig · 26/06/2008 21:24

I'm not bothering either. I got the ones on my boobs a puberty so I just have stretch mark type skin i think.

accessorizequeen · 26/06/2008 22:17

i haven't bothered with cream this time, I was religious with ds1 and as soon as I went a day over (I was 42 weeks when he was born) I was covered in them!

hedgepig, it's a fairly long wire/cable thing but yes does impede things a little. No pool, which I was disappointed by. Others on here say you can negotiate to be checked every 20 mins say. But depends on your situation, they thought I was heading for crash section so no chance! Still, after a while doesn't really matter and you can still use ball, stool, move around on bed etc. I was concerned heading into it but had a vbac despite it, it was such a great feeling!
