CantSleepWontSleep · 19/06/2008 20:25

No croissants for me popsy - diabetes doesn't allow!

Sallypuss - I know what you mean re bandits, but can I assure you that the inlaws aren't ones!

Blodwen is a charming name Jambers. I think you should use it for real .

ronshar · 19/06/2008 20:50

CSWS, how are you getting on with the diabeties apart from the no ice cream nightmare?
Lozza, I went shopping today. West Quays in Southhampton.
Fan-bloody-tastic.
Gap have a sale on. I bought three t-shirts for DD1 £2.49, reduced from 14.99. Bargin.
Sorry carried away with the bargins. My point is that they are also selling beautiful little baby things. All reduced. Lovely little dresses, boys stuff etc. All at silly prices. I bought my first pack of vest and a sleep suit. All kinda cream/soft grey. My first baby buys.
H&M had quite a good selection of maternity stuff as well. I bought a two pack of t-shirts with handy breast holes for feeding. I wore out three of those with DD2, leaky breasts!!
Is anyone else beginning to get that "I must buy stuff/sort out all the rubbish in the loft" feeling? I can feel it creeping up on me. Probably not the best time for DH to go visit his mum in France

bethoo · 19/06/2008 21:17

Ronshar did you not notice the leggings on the table in H&M? that was where my crime began last saturday!

hedgepig · 19/06/2008 21:57

ronshar I have frantically stated to clear out the cupboards in the spare room so we can demolish them and get the ceiling re-plastered and decorate, so we have somewhere to put the cot. Last time i was trying steam strip the paper in ds's room in the hottest summer on record when I was 8 1/2 month pregnant so I feel like I have loads of time at the moment (but I haven't arggg). Can't get anything down from the loft until the room is decorated.

Emmsy1 · 19/06/2008 22:20

Hi ladies!, haven't been on for a while. I have put a dopsit down on my 'Quinny Buzz' pram/pushchair! (in strawberry) and a deposit on a maxi cosi car seat in deep red (as it will fit on the frame of the quinny buzz!) Felt so much better, once I had, I really like to be organised! Have even bought my baby bath, moses basket, change mat, bottles and a few pink baby grows and body suits! Baby kicking loads now and I'm really excited. Just can't wait to have this baby! (but not the labour!) If any one tried to look at my scan picture and didn't see them, I apologise, I didn't make my profile public!

firsttimer08 · 19/06/2008 22:46

good luck jambers. hope it all goes well.

Ronshar, i haven't started baby shopping yet, though i did do some maternity shopping at gap (again) - but this time at the same. So are the deals at baby gap good? What time of stuff are you buying, i'm a bit confused b/c it'll be winter by the time the baby is born, but i presume vests etc would be the same irrespective of the weather right? Sorry i really am a 'first timer' - don't know anything !

also i saw my midwife yesterday. Booked into the NHS classes - we have 5 classes on friday mornings. 3 at the health centre and 2 at the hospital. They have a limit of 12 people in the classes, so it seemed alright. Have also booked the NCT weekend classes, so that DH can attend, as he won't be able to come on weekdays.

rosebury · 20/06/2008 08:58

Morning ladies glad to hear that you are all feeling very productive time is passing by now and our babies will start arriving sooner than we think there are always a few early birds. My loft is clear of baby things everything is now in the spare room and needs washing etc. My ds was born in May five years ago and it was a hot summer so I do need some new baby things eg caridgans my problem is the size, my ds was 9lbs 4oz and gained weight immediatly so new born clothes did not fit I had to send people out to buy new things for him. My pushchair also looks out of date and new ones look so nice but I cannot justify gettiing another one I might use this one for the early months and then replace it as it does tend to be the carrycot and car seat bits that are expensive sorry for rambling on but my brain is whizzing along.

CSWS Bonjour we are missing you on here have a great holiday.

hedgepig · 20/06/2008 10:48

summer of 2003 I remeber it well it was blooming hot, my DS was born in the August, once i started materninty leave I just sat on the sofa with the fan blowing on me for a month. I am hoping for a cool summer this year

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 20/06/2008 11:50

good to know the sales have started - I might stock up on summery clothes for older babies, to save a bit of cash this time next year

anyone know where there's a maternity H&M or Dotty Ps in London?

Our bump is called spudlet - hoping it doesn't stick, especially if it's a girl! have a friend who still refers to her 14yr old as peanut though!

ronshar · 20/06/2008 14:33

Firsttimer. The most important thing to remember is if you have a big group of friends/family DO NOT BUY TOO MUCH YOURSELF. I went mad for DD1 lots of little body suits etc. When I had her I was given so many outfits that she didnt get to wear many of them before she out grew them.
All you really need, especially because OCtober can still be warmish, is lots of vests and body/sleepsuits. Little babies poo and vomit alot so you can be changing up to 6-7 outfits a day.
If you are anything like me it takes a good week to stop spraying breast milk all over the poor little bean anyway.
Also babies sleep alot so a set of sheets, blankets for basket/carrycot are always good for the layers rather than lots of clothes.
Cant think of anything else at the moment but I'm sure someone else will fill in any gaps!
Oh yes a white (because I think white is pure like a new born angel)hat for immediately post delivery. Stops the babies core temperature dropping too rapidly which can cause blood sugar drop.
Hope that helps alittle bit.

Bethoo yes I did see the leggings and I did smile to myself

sambrads · 20/06/2008 16:26

i too feel like going mad and buying loads of clothes but i think you just need to realise that you are going to get loads of pesents and as someone said you never seem to wear everything you have

i have just booked a holiday for next june . i know its a year away but it will allow me some time for the baby to grow up a bit and for me to lose a bit of weight !!
at least now i have a reason to lose weight after the birth hahaha

going for my scan on wednesday so so cant wait its going to be so exciting

oh can i just say anyone who has a next beside them go inside and ask the workers when the sale starts in july . it is one sale i never miss everything is half price or less!!

on boxing day i am there at 4 in the morning when the doors open and i buy enough for the year . this year it will be madness as i have to buy for 2

Lozza70 · 20/06/2008 19:26

ronshar the immenent arrival has speeded up our house decoration...which has been in progress for 5 year In the last 16 weeks we have replaced our bathroom, redone the back garden with decking and replacing the lawn, gutted and redecorated the hall, stairs and landings (3 floors so lots to do!), gutted and redecorated our bedroom and we are about to start on the living room. Only the front garden to be turned into a drive...I know not very eco friendly but can't be parking at the other end of the street with a sprog in tow. Do you think I could be in nesting mode??

firsttimer08 This is also my first and I have a few friends who have had babies in the last year. They have all made me promise not to buy anything until they have had a chance to pass me some of thier bits and pieces. There will still be some bits I will want to get new and it's fun to be able to do a bit of shopping I think.

Had my maternity meeting with HR today at work and have said I will plan to start my leave on the 22nd Sept. Not long now, hope the summer gets no hotter as the tube will be a mare!

accessorizequeen · 20/06/2008 19:35

Hullo all, I went to an NCT sale on the weekend and bought some clothes for girl twin, which was nice. First time ever! Sept/Oct difficult months really, but I think cotton cardigans without hoods are great for any time and really hard to find so I'm always on the lookout. I find people buy dressy outfits (like 0-3 jeans etc) rather than sensible things like babygros and muslins. In fact 10 pack of muslins was best pressie with ds1 as I needed dozens of them!

I'm really relieved the weather isn't too hot as I would be struggling. I can cope with this, esp as I was walking out with the ds's for a few hours today (can't walk now, but it was v.nice to do some exercise!).

Off to research double buggies again!

Lozza70 have you booked your hynobirthing course yet? I have a friend who does natal hynotherapy near you in Woodford and the course looks really good there.
Have heard good things about the natal hypnotherapy classes but as am having elective CS decided against doing them so have been listening to the cds instead- they are v.relaxing-plus have curbed my wanting to eat junk! .
I did NCT classes first time round and they were ok but the price seems to have shot up over the last year i've noticed. I think I paid about £120 2 years ago- they are well over £300 in my local branch now

Hi all - hope you're all well

Hasavana - i broke my little toe a few years ago and dislocated it on a shopping trolley wheel - lol now but at the itme i cried loads!! I was pushing a trolley laden with goodies and booze and the wheel went sideways. I was wearing silly sandals and my little toe went one side of the wheel and the rest went the other side - ouch. Went to A&E and once they'd out it back in place all they did was strap it to next toe. If your is broken, strapping it will stop it hurting so much but keep your weight of it for a week or it'll swell right up - nice....hope its better soon (ps i'm feeling your pain!!)

pistachio sorry you are in a bit of pain it must be really difficult when you still have all your Mum duties.

Wherestheaupair I have not booked my course yet. Do you have your friends details, I may look at doing the course with them?

07mumstheword · 21/06/2008 07:23

We've been off line ISP finally sorted it out

Bigmouth Belated happy birthday to you for last Monday too, hope your annual bubble bath was relaxing.

Will catch up properly later hope everyone's well.

Aubergenie · 21/06/2008 09:25

Wherestheaupair - I've been dithering about Hypnobirthing and I too am interested in the Woodford Natal Hynotherapy classes (I'm not sure what the difference between the two different approaches is to be honest) as it's not that far from me. I feel like I really need to get something sorted before I run out of free weekends. I've decided against the NCT classes as they're too far away, so I think I could possible justify the cost of a hynpo-based course if it's good.

So does your friend think it's useful?

Sounds like the nesting instinct has really kicked in with lots of us. I can relate to it, as I've been battling with builders in an attempt to sort out getting our kitchen/bathroom sorted before the baby comes. Haven't bought any baby stuff yet, although my sis has dug out the crib from the cellar that we both used as babies and my nieces used when they were small. I think we'll be given a lot of stuff as a lot of my firends have already had children.

I bought a Dream Genii maternity pillow the other day and had my first decent night's sleep for ages last night. DP says I was snoring like a monster though!

Have a lovely weekend ladies.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/06/2008 10:52

Bonjour again ladies. Good job none of you who are moaning about heat are out here today. It's the hottest day since we arrived, and absolutely glorious. Am typing this sitting by the pool!

Lozza70 · 21/06/2008 11:32

CSWS Soooo jealous of your good weather. It's miserable in London this morning, grey and damp. Just trooped around Ikea so I would have an excuse for a hotdog (dirty food but has to be done!) and back home with feet up.

benandoli · 21/06/2008 12:24

Hi I am due on october 17th with my third baby. I have two lovely boys who will be 3 and 6 in August. This baby is a girl. I may have to have a section (help) as I have a low lying placenta. Just hope it moves.

jenwa · 21/06/2008 15:18

benandoli I have that too but apparntly it does usually move in most cases as the uterus gets bigger and the placenta moves it way back. They should scan you again, I am having one at 34 weeks to check.

Ekka · 21/06/2008 19:30

Hi there, we're back from an eventful holiday.... You've all been busy chatting, so I've only skimmed through the messages! Glad to hear about positive scans - ours is on Wed morning, so not long to wait now....

So, on our way to Cornwall our car ground to a halt, we had to be rescued by the AA and eventually got a hire car, but it was a tiny Vauxhall Astra instead of our huge Galaxy ! Plus it was manual, and dh can only drive an automatic, so guess who go stuck with all the driving on the first few days. The place we'd picked to stay was down loads of tiny single track roads - aaargh!!! Luckily we got our car back on Tuesday evening, so dh could have the pleasure of driving .... But, the holiday was great - weather was mixed but we spent some good days on the beach and dd (who has been walking for only about 1mth) was running into the sea and kept wanting to go deeper & deeper.... The baby swimming classes obviously have paid off, as she just loved the waves!

I am a little worried that our car may be a complete dud - its only 3 mths old and has had 2 major faults already.... In fact Ford did threaten not to cover this issue under warranty as they couldn't believe that the fault had just occurred, they thought it must be our fault somehow, and tried to convince us that we'd put the wrong fuel in - ummmm, I may be pregnant, but the great big 'Diesel' sign on the filling cap is pretty hard to miss . Cue lots of hormonal yelling down the phone! Dh got rather scared....

Baby has started kicking much more now - I can actually see my stomach jump sometimes and dh has finally felt the kicks .

Sorry for such a long ramble, I'm now off to put dd to bed and then I'm going to get an early night too, and ignore all the unpacking/washing etc as I'm shattered....
