Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Emmsy1 · 09/06/2008 21:16

hi girls,(copied and pasted next bit to save writing it out again!)
My 20 week scan was today, all is fine!! The sonographer said that the baby wasn't in a good position to accurately show the sex, but she thinks it is a girl!! really hope 'widgie' wasn't hiding behind the cord!
Things have really changed since I last had children, didn't have any wee samples or blood pressure taken, just scan and a quick explanation of blood results that were taken back in march. No consultants or understudies, no breast examinations[thank god] it was really weird, they did put a sticker on my notes 'strep B alert' so I am given anti-biotics when I go into labour. I have posted a picture for anyone to have a look at if they want to. xxx

bethoo · 09/06/2008 21:26

Emmsy i too have my Group Bstrep yellow alert sticker!

accessorizequeen · 09/06/2008 21:40

hansnava, I have streaming cold at present too. I use catarrh pastilles which really help with me being blocked up and are absolutely fine as I had long convo with pharmacist! Plus I put vicks on at night to help me breathe & use one of those plug-in things next to the bed. Lockets etc are also fine I was told although strepsils not. You can take co-codomol, I certainly have if I absolutely must, but I'm sure it's not good in the 3rd trim or is is the first? With the headaches, some of the peppermint oil you can rub on your temples is really helpful, but I suspect it's the blocked sinuses etc that cause them in the first place which brings me back to catarrh pastilles!

bethoo · 09/06/2008 21:47

bollocks! i was eating strepsils like they were going out of fashion a couple of weeks ago! the pharmacist said they were ok!

accessorizequeen · 09/06/2008 21:51

well, take the pharmacist's advice and not mine, bethoo! I was having lemsip all the time when pg last time before I realised...You can get glycerin cough medicine too hansnava but I found it pretty useless.

evening all,
Ekka - we're off to Cornwall on saturday too - lets hope the weather holds - don't fancy being cooped up with a 4 yr old and 2 yr old if it rains all week, but I know what you mean about the relief of having someone else there to share the entertaining!
Congrats on everyone's scans so far and good luck tomorrow ladies.
firtstimer - suppose you need a C section?? Not sure how soon you could fly after that so you might need to check that out too before buying tickets. Personally I just couldn't have done it so soon with first baby - I think I'd got as far as walking slowly to the high street with DH by 2 weeks. Physically I was still exhausted from the birth - no-one tells you that you ache all over, completely, like you've been beaten up after you've had a baby - very foolishly I assumed that my ladybits would be a tad sensitive and that was it - I actually felt like I'd gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson and then had a minor car crash.
Does that help?

pepperrabbit · 09/06/2008 21:54

Slightly crossed posts with the whole lemsip/sore throat thing there!

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/06/2008 21:59

I thought that strepsils were ok too, although I haven't taken anything for my cold (not entirely sure if it's a cold or hayfever I have at the moment, but middle of the night snuffles suggests cold to me). I just stick olbas oil on my pillow at night.

hansnava · 10/06/2008 07:17

thank u ladies for ur help. i dont think ive ever felt this rough before and it came on so quick usually theres a biuld up to getting a cold but this was just there. my throats not sore ne more but my nose is still flooding and ive got a cough that feels like its ripping my chest out everytime i cough

hansnava · 10/06/2008 07:23

build see im soo ill i cant spell

hedgepig · 10/06/2008 09:45

here is a big box of balm tissues and a nice cake to make you feel better.

hansnava · 10/06/2008 10:51

thank u hedgepig the cake was lovely

firsttimer08 · 10/06/2008 10:52

thanks everyone for your advice. It seems that attending the wedding is out of the scene for the moment, unless the baby is born right on time !! I didn't know abou the cabin pressure and the lung issues and that's really worrying. Definitely, it is a c-section, then flying anywhere for a few months would be out of the window I suppose
Will probably have to miss the wedding, which is disappointing given I'm already missing a wedding in Italy as i'll be 33 weeks and i've been advised to avoid flying then too.

There was some discussion on maternity clothes as well - and here is my £0.02 - the best pair of trousers i've found so far are from gap. I'm hoping their sale starts soon so I can get some more stuff from them. I ordered the other things from next and somehow even their smallest size i.e. 8 is too loose on the waist. Yesterday i spent most of the day pulling my trousers back up. I also got a set of camisoles and again they just wont stay put and hang down. I don't want to spend too much money on clothes i'll be wearing only for another 4 months - so i'll probably have to just deal with my wardrobe disaster through the pregnancy.

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/06/2008 11:56

o7Mumstheword, I was told it's ok to take Loratadin once past 13 weeks. Well, they said there is no evidence that it does any damage and left it up to me. I'm taking it when desperate as was only managing to sleep about 3 hours a night and was really miserable.
CSWS - he does get shortened to Dom sometimes but we do too so I think people have taken the lead. I'm often asked whether he gets Dom or Dominic but maybe I just have polite friends
Very of your scans - 6 days to go!
Hansnava did you eat all the cake or is there some left for me? I was going to make scones but I'm on MN instead!

Jambers99 · 10/06/2008 13:08

Had my scan this morning, with mixed results - they found borderline levels of fluid on the brain, so I've got to go back in two weeks for another scan to see if anything's changed. The sonographer didn't seem very worried (she said that if the levels had been higher she'd have referred me to a specialist unit immediately), so I'm hoping that it's not really anything to worry about. Everything else - heart, limbs, spine etc - was absolutely fine.

Good news is it's a girl, yippee! So I'll have one of each and can finally indulge my desire to buy pink things.

hansnava · 10/06/2008 13:19

smudgeydoodle- theres a little left i will send it ur way

jambers - sorry about ur mixed results today, i hope every is better when u go back in a couple of weeks.

hoff · 10/06/2008 15:17

Hi all, another new one here! DS1 due 6th oct, can't wait but at the same time relishing the last months of lie-ins etc! i'm in spain, having ds out here which is slightly scary but sure it'll be fine -we've had lots of good references for the hospital. for once i'm not looking forward to summer, 40º + bump may not be so fun...

jenwa · 10/06/2008 18:33

Congrats on scans etc.

Bethoo not a fan of headbands, they only slide of anyway. Need hair for them def!!

I got confirmation that baby is def a girl from chromosone results so I am

HI all,

First timer - you can fly up to 36 weeks you just need a doctor to write you a letter saying you're fit to fly but you have to fly back by the time your 36 weeks or you're stuck in italy for the duration!! I know people who have lied at check-in (not me i hasten to add) saying they were less than this and have flown at 38+ weeks - bit risky!!! I guess its 'easier' to fly when preggers than with a wee one...tough decision though...

CSWS - i feel exactly the same - finally found the olbas oil at 2am and that seemed to help, feels like sinusitis but can't decide if cold or hayfever either. Do you get green snot with hayfever - sorry if tmi but not had hayfever before!!

hansnava - hope you're feeling better soon xx

oh and hi to Hoff too

caramelbunny · 10/06/2008 21:07

Welcome hoff, don't envy the heat you're having to put up with.

I'm sure everything will be fine at next scan jambers.

Such bad hayfever am considering removing my own eyeballs. Such mixed messages out there about what you can and can't take, I might actually consult a medical professional!

Going to lie on settee and eat a Tesco finest frozen orange juice ice lolly, delicious and nutritious, been thinking about it while spending last 2 hours working.

twinklytoes · 10/06/2008 22:27

evening all, welcome to the newbies and congrats on scans.

need to sign off but came across some little gems that haven't yet been discussed and thought I'd let you know.

there's new government rules that come into place for all babies due on or after 5th Oct 2008 - apparently we should have the same contractual rights and not reduced rights as with previous mat policies. The main one that affects me is annual leave. I should get my enhanced annual leave package and not statutory as received with previous maternity leave.

also entitled to 10 "keep in touch days" which are paid during maternity leave

neither of these are in my current maternity policy so am awaiting what this means for me.

also, found out that I can request my maternity to be paid in 9 equal payments rather than full pay for 8 weeks, half for 18, 18 at smp.

twinklytoes · 10/06/2008 22:33

link for oct 2008 changes

07mumstheword · 11/06/2008 08:09

Jambers I'm sorry to hear your scan wasn't 100% but as they said if they were worried you would have seen a specialist immediately so hopefully all will be well in a couple of weeks.

Hayfever and colds miserable when the sun is out and we are sniffling away.

I had my scan yesterday and all is well, isn't it amazing to see it all on the screen. We don't know what the sex is so a nice surprise in October. My consultant has referred me for a growth scan at 34 wks due to the fact my DD was 9lb 2oz to check I don't grow big babbies I'm only 5'2" and normally 9st so I'm hoping this one isn't going to be quite so big.

jenwa · 11/06/2008 11:27

I was told by my dr I could take piriton for hayfever, only thing is I feel sooo drowsy on it and miserable that dont know whats worse. Having day off it today and whilst weather not great staying indoors as much as poss.

Got midwife this afty to discuss mat b cert.

Have seen lovely outift in H&M for baby but held off buying, will have to wait til payday due to buying fathers day pressies

jambers sorry about your scan, hopefully all will be ok.
