morning girls! wow weekends are busy, been catching up with everyone...on maternity wear I heard new look and dotty p's had good ranges but does anyone know which stores (london based) stock them?

my mega news is I've finally felt my baby move!! was getting really stressed and worried about but definate 4 kicks while watching sex and the city movie yesterday and another kicik just this morning!! am so unbelievably happy!

firsttimer08 · 09/06/2008 11:05

hedgepig: yup i need to speak to the GP about this / plus I just realised that i'll need to get the passport made for the baby as well all in good time. maybe its not such a good idea !

accessorizequeen: u're right, the biggest expenses are the pram, car seat, nursery furniture etc. I'm going to start the shopping once I have had my 22 week scan and know all is well ! will probably buy a small amount every month rather than one big bulk ! have u started shopping yet? Although given it'll be a autumn/winter baby, some of the clothes shopping will have to be left till late i presume. I went to the NCT website - do they also do nursery furniture? I noticed there's a nearly new sale in greenwich adverstised on the NCT for 14th June. Unfortunately, my scan is after that and I'm too much of a prude to start buying before it.

bethoo · 09/06/2008 11:19

talking about buying stuff i may go as far as one of those headband thingies. what is everyone concensus on those? i never liked them but am starting to think they are quite cute with a boy though if she has no hair i do not think i could out them on her!

bethoo · 09/06/2008 11:20

bow not boy!

MrsTittleMouse · 09/06/2008 11:23

I would be seriously stressed out about getting a passport for a newborn within three weeks of birth. You'll have to be super-organised (and DD's birth was not a time when I was super-organised!).

We've had our anomoly scan and great news - everything looks fine. And we're having another girl.

bethoo · 09/06/2008 11:24

that is lovely Mrstittlemouse and good news that all is well.

MrsTittleMouse · 09/06/2008 11:31

Thank you!
We were optimistic that things would look good as I'm getting a lot of movement. Obviously everything is so stretched this time around that I can feel every kick.

KSal · 09/06/2008 11:35

very pleased for you girlwiththemouseyhair . it really is an amazing thing when you feel it for the first time... the great thing is i feel just as happy every time i feel it. Not sure i'll feel that way all the way through as everyone tells me it starts to get a bit uncomfirtable sometimes!

accessorizequeen · 09/06/2008 11:41

Congrats, Mrs TM
firsttimer, sounds like a lot of stress at a time when you could prob. do without it but possible if you really want to!
I don't really have to buy much other than a few clothes/blankets etc for girl twin, I have two boys who were born at a similar time of year (the twins will be smaller, so should work out I hope!). Just need to order the double buggy, and choose a people carrier (although we're not buying until after the birth despite what dp says!). DP seems to have bought some cots

Do find out when your next NCT sale is on, much better if you can to get to one, I haven't tried buying online & I suspect it's more expensive/less choice. But if you're too big (as I was for virgin NCT sale) you get caught in the scrum! You could do a 'within 20 miles' search on ebay for certain things thus saving on postage costs, I've done that several times. London excellent for buying 2nd hand baby stuff afaik! I just bought a big chest of drawers from ikea, will buy another for the twins as they work so well. I've never had a changing table, I got one of those things that go on the top of the cot & it's still being used for ds2 (18 months), brilliant buy IMO.

MrsTittleMouse · 09/06/2008 11:44

Ksal - I always found the movement reassuring with DD1, but I have to say that when she kept turning breech, ramming her head up under my ribs, and jumping up and down on my cervix, I wouldn't say that I much enjoyed it.

hansnava · 09/06/2008 11:48

hi all
had my 20 week scan this morning and all is really well
we took dd as it was at 8am and she loved it, lots of "whats that" "wow baby"
baby very limber its feet were up by its head lol.

firsttimer - i didnt think u could travel until baby was 4 weeks old dur to there lungs being to weak for cabin pressure. im probably wrong but im sure i read that somewhere.

bethoo · 09/06/2008 11:50

hansnava are youi another who is wating forthe big day to find out the gender?

sambrads · 09/06/2008 12:02

congrats on all the scans today

as for travelling with a 3 week old i think it would be vey hard as you dont really have much time to sort out passport routine and yourself !
took me a good 2 weeks before i felt myself again .

this little monkey is moving day and night my dh can feel all the kicks cant believe how strong they got over the space of a week

only 16 days til my 3d scan

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/06/2008 14:32

Don't forget that you could be 2 weeks late firsttimer, so then you'd only have a week to organise everything . I wouldn't do it personally - dd was shockingly unsettled as a baby, and no way would I have coped with being away.

bethoo - hansnava's hospital won't tell sex, so she doesn't have any choice in the matter!

Congrats MrsTM. 2 girls will be lovely I'm sure (was what I was hoping for).

Bethoo - I think that 'twee' is probably the best word I can find to describe those headbands, but that's just my opinion.

GWTMH.

Smudgey - you have excellent taste in names . Does he get shortened to Dom much? Whilst I don't dislike that, it doesn't do much for me either, and I think that that's my main hesitation with the name. It was in the top 100 names last year, so that's much more popular than dd's, but I haven't met another baby/toddler one either.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 09/06/2008 15:35

Afternoon all - I have had my scan today as well (congrats to hansnava and MrsTittlemouse too). All was well the baby had all the bits in the right places and we are having another girl!

Ds has taken the news of little sis no.2 well but he wants to call her Peter - which is an improvement on his first suggestions of Tronka or Donka or Binny

I would be doubtful aboout travelling with a 3 week old firsttimer08 - and as has been pointed out you may go beyond term - it would be a big thing to contemplate. I felt a great sense of achievement if I managed to get dressed before lunchtime in those first weeks with my first baby - but that might be just me

Jambers99 · 09/06/2008 16:12

Hooray and congrats to everyone with good scan results today. Mine is at 11am tomorrow - feeling nervous but excited at the same time. Good luck to 07mtw who I think also has her scan tomorrow.

caramelbunny · 09/06/2008 18:47

Have been struggling thinking of names but thanks bigmouth for putting Tronka on there, it really has a lovely ring to it

Ekka · 09/06/2008 18:55

Well, my scan date has moved to 25th June as dh cleverly booked himself on a work trip on the original day

Off to Cornwall on Saturday, which I'm really looking forward to, it'll be nice to have a change and also have dh around during the day as extra amusement for dd

bigmouthstrikesagain · 09/06/2008 19:04

Happy to help caramelbunny - I can add other suggestions from ds if you are still needing inspiration - they are certainly original!

emkay · 09/06/2008 19:26

Hello all

Was just thinking about those of you talking about buying baby equipment now - we had loads of friends pass on stuff to us but only in the couple of months before the EDD because they were just not thinking about it as soon as we were. It would have been really frustrating if we had already splashed out on getting stuff and you then also have to find room to store everything once baby has grown out of it, whereas all the borrowed stuff can go back where it came from.

Of course, backfiring on me now because I need to borrow it all again! Some stuff is lovely to have new, but I can't get that emotional about things like change mat, baby bath, steriliser, nappy bucket... Planning to check out freecycle, NCT and my mates again but probably nearer the time...

We flew away for family reasons (only to Switzerland) when DD was 3 months and I couldn't have done it any earlier. Having said that, it was very easy - much easier than returning from Oz with her aged one! Never again!

accessorizequeen · 09/06/2008 19:38

My ds1 is calling the dt's Giero and CarTruckFireEngine. Plenty of inspiration there! Congrats on scans bigmouth & hansnava!

hansnava · 09/06/2008 20:47

07mumstheword · 09/06/2008 20:55

Jambers Yes my scan is tomorrow 10am, I'm really excited Good luck with yours too
We'll have to swap notes tomorrow

Bigmouth LOL at names and congrats on the scans to you and Hansnava

07mumstheword · 09/06/2008 21:01

Hansvana I don't think there is anything other than Paracetmol you can take you poor thing. I had a cold a month or so ago you could try putting your head over a bowl of steaming water with a towel to help unblock your nose? I've got hidious hayfever at the moment and can't take anything for it, it's not fair to be sneezing in this beautiful weather. Get better soon.

loulou33 · 09/06/2008 21:02

Hi All,

First timer - you can't fly with baby until he/she is at least 2 weeks old (something to do with little ears and cabin pressure) but each airline is different so some may say more than that, particularly for long haul. I flew within uk with ds when he was 3 1/2 weeks but flight was only 1/2 hour. I was very desparate for family support (all family live hundreds of miles away), sleep deprived etc and ON MY OWN....not a good idea but all airline staff were very kind (i think they all thought i was mad tbh!!) Ds slept whole way (the noise helped lull him to sleep) but bit of a struggle with car seats, pram etc so i wouldn't recommend it unless you have to.....also as csws says you may be late so may not be allowed to fly.

Am due to fly with toddler on my own in a few weeks before i'm too big (can't fly without doctors note once you're more than 27 weeks but i may just lie!!)

CSWS - like your name choice btw (sod the in-laws) but don't worry i won't steal if from you as won't go with surname - too many m's and n's....maybe tell the in-laws you've changed your mind and you're going to call him Ikea or Asbo or something ...oops hope no one has those on their short list...
