Bethoo Happy Birthday

CSWS Lovely names, I really like Dominic. I really hate discussing names in RL as people's faces can say a lot before they even speak. Ultimately it is up to us and our DH/DP's, it's a big responsibility!

Clothes I have lots of tops to get by with but I struggle to get comfy trousers/jeans. Under the bump can slip down, over the bump can seem to give me like a heartburn sensation. I wear them out and have a supply of comfy joggers for when I'm about the house.

Glad all the scans are going so wonderfully. Mine is on Tues and although DH definately doesn't want to know I was rather hoping to spot something for my self to indicate which sex it is but from the sound of some of your scans it sounds like the sonographer keeps that secret unless you specificly ask. Probably just aswell as I am a blabber mouth!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 07/06/2008 07:49

Happy Birthday Bethoo

Despite being on a short fuse and v tired this week - Being stuck at home with Chicken pox ds is not great fun - I am v excited about scan on Monday - will find out the sex if poss.

Welcome Newbies - I have found some v useful clothes in New Look - got some long vests from the Tall section they are good under non-mat tops to provide bump coverage (though they won't cut it in a month or so). H&M were good for jeans but I agree some of the tops/ dresses are not at all flattering. Top Shop I will not be going to again as their range ( denim micro mini anyone??) - is definitely for the trendy Young mum i.e. not 33 (34 in 9 days sob)! At the other end of the scale I find Mothercare Frumpy in the extreme - v poor show.

07mumstheword · 07/06/2008 08:02

Bigmouth LOL at Topshop, I went in there to find one stand alone rail of maternity clothes all completely unsuitable for a respectful mother in her 30's
Is your birthday on 16th June then? (My maths not reliable!!) Mine is on the 16th and I'll be 35 what a coincidence (sp?). Hope your DS is better soon.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 07/06/2008 08:10

Morning 07 - yes my birthday is on 16th as well

I shall be going to the hairdresser for the first time since getting married in honour of turning 34 and in an effort to have a grown up lady hair style.

sambrads · 07/06/2008 09:21

happy birthday bethoo

and happy birthday big mouth and mumstheword if forget to say it on the 16th

clothes have been very hard for me this time round as i don like the fit of some of the jeans .

i got jeans from next and clothes from marks and spencers, new look, debehams and topshop although i do agree that they are not very covering

firsttimer08 · 07/06/2008 09:31

thanks for the tips Cantsleepwontsleep, personanna, accessorizequeen ! didn't realise that the needs of a small baby can be as basic as just nappies. Will look around at tesco and other places before deciding - but i guess that's a long way to go.
CSWS i still need to figure out the child benefits and tax credit stuff. So much to do before the baby arrives !

WheresTheAuPair · 07/06/2008 10:02

Happy birthday Bethoo!

thanks for the clothes tips everyone. Just tackled my laundry mountain and discovered a load of maternity stuff that was lying forgotten under a heap of towels . and here's me saying I have nothing to wear! lol. DS's on a whirlwind today- whatever room i'm in he's follwing me around pulling everything out! there seems to be a trail of destruction following me around. I wouldn't mind if i was ignoring him but he gets loads of attention!

snowymum · 07/06/2008 10:20

Blimey, there's two pages since I last logged on! Just wanted to say thanks to the ladies who answered me about dignity, displaying bits to the world etc - wise words all.

hedgepig · 07/06/2008 10:40

Happy Birthday Bethboo Hope you get lots os pampering.
I'm going to have to try and track down some clothes, I have found a second hand agency north of Cambridge which I will go an have a look at. N Herts girls If it is any good I will let you know. It my brothers wedding in July and It's going to be fairly posh so I need to find something other than jog bottoms .

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/06/2008 10:49

Hedgepig - I have a smart wedding to go to in July, and have bought this dress to wear for it. Just trying to sort shoes etc to go with it now.

hansnava · 07/06/2008 12:02

hi all
feeling very tired today but i think its due to my dd sleeping in so i did too(she usually up by 7 but has a cold so she slept til 9.30) so i think i got too much sleep if that makes sense.

quick ? is ne one having there lo at the luton and dunstable

hedgepig · 07/06/2008 12:03

Thanks CSWS looks promising, is it quite long? (I hate dressing up so weddings are always a problem for me)

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/06/2008 14:12

About mid-calf hedgepig. Buy quick if you want one though, as I think that Bjorn and me have stopped making it and sold off their remaining stock, so there are just a few here and there with diff retailers!

lovely dress csws. I went to a wedding when 6 months with ds2 and wore jersey trousers with a JoJo wrap top or something similar accessorised to the max and I felt comfy and fairly glam. Went to mcare today as I had loads to return and got a tiered skirt which seems ever so comfy. Come to conclusion that all mat. trousers are an absolute horror for me, they are all far too tight & hurt or fall down. I hate the falling down grrrr esp when I'm busy with the kids all the time getting up and down etc.

firsttimer - glad I could help, I was speaking more of the monthly costs obviously things like the buggy, cot, bouncy chair, muslins, clothes, blankets etc will add up to a darn sight more than that! NCT/ebay fab in that respect as 0-6 clothes in particular so cheap in big lots on ebay and NCT wonderful for cots etc. I found it was the extras that I had to have for ds1 in particular (I did have the money then, I guess) which added up, he must have another top/jumper/cute babygro/toy etc!

Wow! I have just read through about three weeks worth of posts! Feel completely square eyed but great to have caught up with everyone. BT and Virgin finally pulled their fingers out today and got us connected to the internet after three weeks of faffing... amazing how much we rely on the internet for really basic stuff - MN included!

We had our scan on Thursday and all is well. We're waiting until October to find out if a boy / girl although DD aged 2.5 says it's a baby sister every time... I think she just can't imagine a boy!

We're in West London and having the baby at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea. All went fairly smoothly last time there so hoping for a repeat performance.

Great to read up on all the nappy stuff - I think I need a bit of face to face advice from someone to look at the different options because the ones we tried were incredibly bulky in the earlier stages and now they pinch DD even though they're on the max setting and she's not big for her age.

Hoping to be a bit more in touch from now on !

07mumstheword · 07/06/2008 20:59

Emkay Glad your scan went well and you are back online

Bigmouth I'm having my hair cut too on the Saturday is it a birthday thing

I've been out on a pamper day today and had the Mum To Be package with my friend who had the Yummy Mummy package, she had her DS2 in Feb and it was our birthday present to her for her 30th which I just had to tag along on I had a massage, a facial and a foot scrub...lovely

hansnava · 07/06/2008 21:54

(sorry if tmi)
but has ne ones boobs started leaking a little bit?

rach010 · 08/06/2008 09:30

hansnava My boobs leaked a little last week but it was when i'd been carrying something against them??!!!

Is it just me or is anyone else feeling extremely hormonal i.e 1 min i'm fine the next i'm angry then the next crying??? WEIRD?
I've got nothing to be angry or upset about i'm so so happy. Poor DP and DS gone in the garden to get away from me. Off to do some cleaning now get what ever it is out of my system.

Have a lovely day ladies x

hansnava · 08/06/2008 10:59

i know what u mean rach010 i walked my dd to playschool the other day crying my eyes out for no other reason then i walked past the petrol station and my dp was in there filling up on his way to work.

ive also been very "u dont love me anymore" to my dp lol i dont think he knows whether he's coming or going with me at the minute.
i threatened to leave him and move back to my mums yesterday just because he said he was going out for a drink with his mates. i wouldnt blame him if he told me to go until after i have had baby

SmudgeyDoodle · 08/06/2008 12:09

Hi all. Happy Birthday for yesterday Bethoo. It was our 5th wedding anniversary yesterday and we did really glamorous things - played in the garden and got an Asda takeaway. That's celebrating!!! CSWS great name. Your first name is my DS'. Lots of people say it's lovely and I haven't met another baby Dominic yet so obviously not too popular.
People who are feeling hormonal, I totally agree. I was nearly in tears the other day over absolutely nothing. We bought DS a big boy bed from ebay (£16!!) and put it together yesterday and put his new duvet on it. It looked so cute it made me want to cry!!!
Hello to new people. I really can't believe how many there are of us. I'm hoping that most people who are due in October are on MN otherwise I think beds could be at a premium in the labour wards! Off to enjoy the sunshine, hope you are too.

bethoo · 08/06/2008 12:55

thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. i was out all day as went to visit my sister and we spent the afternoon in Bath. so many nice clothes!
to be honest i may have to succumb to maternity jeans as fed up rotating the 4 pair of trousers i have! where i live in Salisbury alot of the shops that usually sell maternity wear elsewhere do not eg Topshop, Next, m&s, New Look. so only got Mothercare and they do not do small sizes.
then had a bbq at dps cousins house then was absolutely shattered when got hime so had an early night! that is what turning 31 does!!

Ekka · 08/06/2008 21:36

Happy birthday for yesterday Bethoo - you share a b-day with my dd who turned 1 yesterday. What a day! We arranged a bbq with our ante-natal class friends and a few others which was fun, but dd started a nasty teething cold yesterday am so spent the day streaming and feeling rather sorry for herself. She did enjoy herself but kept coming over for cuddles and little naps, bless her.... Still, we got a few good pics and I can't believe she's 1 already!!!! We'd also had a friend and her little boy staying since tuesday, which was brilliant but v busy as we did trips to Legoland and the zoo, so its been a mad few days....

Am now absolutely shattered and have a nagging headache that has bothered me for 3 days so have decided that as painkillers don't seem to be working I'm having a 1/2 glass of wine. Don't think its working, but as its the 1st one I've had since Xmas its quite welcome!!!!

We're off on holiday on Saturday to Cornwall, so I've now got a crazy week of washing and packing ahead, luckily dh is taking half next week off, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Only 2 weeks till our scan and at last I've felt baby move - woke me up a 6 this morning apparently doing star jumps, as I could definitely feel the 'kicks' in 4 places at once!!!!

Congrats to everyone on successful scans and welcome to even more newbies - I can't keep up! Am going to bed now, as I can see that we're going to have a disturbed night with poor dd....

firsttimer08 · 08/06/2008 21:39

Does anyone know what the recommendation is on travelling with a new born? There is an important family function that I would like to to attend, which would entail travelling potentially with my 3 week baby (if all goes well of course) and a long cross-continental flight.

There are disaparate views on the net - some say its ok (and more of a hassle in terms of taking all the baby stuff with you), while others say that doctors do not recommend it until the first set of vaccinations.

Anyone travelled before with a newborn or know otherwise?

hedgepig · 08/06/2008 22:48

where are you traveling to firsttimer? I think that would be a decider for me on the jab front. You could as HV about getting the 1st ones early. My friends took a 3 month baby to New Zealand and it was fine not like trying to amuse a toddler for such a long flight.
