Evening All,
I had pedicure and haircut today; feeling more ready by the day.
Will sort out dual citizenship tonight and discuss names!
Feel the need to polish the toaster (it looks a bit mucky) so might have to go and do it now...

Hope you're a having a good/ better weekend.

PiggyPenguin · 31/05/2008 19:30

Congrats Paro and pyjamarama, can't wait until we see the photos! It's so exciting now that the babies are starting to arrive, as the graduate list starts to grow at least the rest of us know that sooner or later it will be our turn.

My evening backache is starting to kick in which is a pain (in every sense). I guess I am just going to have to accept that I am going to get this now until the lo comes.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, despite all the aches and pains...

aberdeenhiker · 31/05/2008 19:32

if polishing the toaster isn't nesting, I don't know what is!

PregnantPenguin, you and your DH will be great with your baby - somehow when it's yours this whole new skill set just appears from thin air. I'm still not comfortable with other people's newborns, but we knew DS so intimately that somehow it made it almost easy.

systemsaddict · 31/05/2008 19:35

ARGH - just been into the bedroom and dp is happily ensconced in there surrounded by piles and piles of papers - he has pulled his life's worth of boxes of crap out from under the bed and is sorting through them - he claims to be 'nesting'. NOW IS NOT THE TIME!! Believe me there are so many more high priority things he could be sorting through, and I just know this isn't a job he can possibly finish tonight, so this will leave one more room in complete chaos. Are all men this impractical or am I just really lucky?

aberdeenhiker · 31/05/2008 19:37

All men are this impractical, it's definitely a gender thing.

systemsaddict · 31/05/2008 19:38

PP don't worry, I agree with AH. I spent months worrying that I didn't know how to change a nappy and then I remember being stood by the hospital cot thinking, oh, is that it? Remove, clean, replace with fresh - what possible further complications could I have been worrying about! Have fun practising with the teddy but believe me, you'll be fine.

dylansmumplusone · 31/05/2008 20:58

systemsaddict - you have described my dh to perfection. he is always doing 'essential' things like filing (and gets REALLY upset if he can't do it for some reason) when i'm looking around thinking about the 20 other much more pressing things and wondering what on earth he's thinking. and then the frustration when he doesn't finish and there are papers and binders lying around everywhere. but it makes me feel a lot better to know i'm not alone!!

bitofadramaqueen · 31/05/2008 21:11

Evening all,

Back from lovely day out and as predicted am knackered! Been naughty and had two beers, but had them over a long afternoon/early evening topped up with lemonade. Lovely. Also managed to get sunburnt today which wasn't very clever.

Hope you enjoyed your haircut and pedicure peartart and LOL at your DH systemaddict. Paro what weight is babyparo? I know the cloth nappies I bought are only suitable from 10lbs so maybe that's part of the problem? Although, I understand that a common issue with cloth nappies is that the babies need bigger bottom halfs. We've got some disposables in for the first few weeks.

PP if it makes you feel any better I was lying awake in the middle of the night wondering how on earth we'd know what to do with a baby. Didn't come up with any answers but I'm sure we'll be fine!!!!

thegreenfairy · 31/05/2008 22:40

Evening all

Congratulations paro and pyjamarama! Who will be next?!

About to crawl into bed after a lovely day gardening. Ended up spending almost four hours digging in and potting new plants and spreading compost and mulch! Shouldn't have done any of it, but got sucked in to doing all the jobs I was saving for after the baby. Not sure getting them done at 38+3 was such a good idea. Maybe I am ultranesting. Bump and back both v sore. Silly me

sponge I live in south Bristol in Totterdown, near Arnos Vale cemetery. SOme people think the cemetery is creepy but it's so overgrown it's full of wildlife and the dawn chorus is amazing.

MIL and SIL coming tomorrow but have managed to put off FIL as well after hinting about too many visitors. He has a habit of standing in the middle of the kitchen for hours and saying nothing - just lurking and GETTING IN THE WAY. Lovely bloke but drives me nuts.

Sleep tight all.

alipalli · 01/06/2008 00:05

Systemsaddict I've just managed to wind up DH by reading him your post about your DP and saying that is just like him. He denies it of course, but we do have a strong track record of whenever we have a party or have people round DH starts doing a useful job, but not the critical job. Net effect is that I end up skivvying in the kitchen, cleaning bathroom etc etc whilst he sorts through the box of hifi cables that have been sitting happily under the desk for the previous 12 months. Ah well - I don't think I will change him now...

Well it is now gone midnight, so today is my due date! Pretty convinced that nothing is going to happen though. We went out for a HOT curry this evening. It was more of a celebration of getting to term rather than a serious bid to bring labour on. I thought it was worth a try at least, although jalfrezi's are a bit on the hot side for me. It occurred to me that if you stood in Asda and yelled "Jalfrezi, come here" it would work quite well a new chav baby name. DH just thought I was being odd. I probably am. Anyway, no immediate effect from the hot curry, although I did manage to get a stitch in one side walking home, I don't think that counts though.

aberdeenhiker · 01/06/2008 07:21

greenfairy I went in to labour with DS after a bout of gardening - can't hurt! And you will have more time now that after, so it's good to get it done!

It's June! congrats to people due today. I am now focusing in on the last possible day I could go into labour on my own - I'd be induced on the 17th. Maybe they should tell us these dates instead of our due dates. The 17th doesn't sound that far away...

Does anyone know how much the heads grown during the last few weeks? DS had a very large head at 38 weeks so I'm wondering if I should be pushing to get a scan to get his head and my pelvis measured if I go much longer...

sophiewd · 01/06/2008 07:45

Morningall.

Still here. Still doing breakfasts.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/06/2008 08:17

Morning all.

Just got up after another dreadful nights sleep. Can remember getting up for the loo and some gaviscon no less than 7 times. That's the second night in a row and I can only hope its just a weekend blip...

Thankfully, sunburn isn't as sore as I anticipated although parts of me do resemble a streaky lobster. Am also quite disenhearted after looking at photo's from yesterday - I'm carrying off the beached whale look nicely.

Not sure what today's plans are as yet... DH back to work tomorrow so either need to catch up on housework, garden etc or we might just sod it and go to the seaside as we didn't make it on Friday.

Aberdeen - I recall the NCT teacher saying that once you're approaching due date the head doesn't really grow any more at all. The baby carries on putting on weight, but you dont put any on your head. (My scalp is probably the only part of me that isn't bloated right now!!!).

sophiewd · 01/06/2008 08:22

I like the sod it route personally

bitofadramaqueen · 01/06/2008 08:33

Me too...

Will see how the weather turns out I think.

alipalli · 01/06/2008 08:58

Morning,

Not a great night's sleep, not helped by the monster baby having a good, kick, hiccup, writhing session from about 1am - 2am. At one point the mattress was bouncing with the force of the hiccups. Probably my own fault for eating that curry.

Not got too much planned for today. Might restart the hospital ipod play list that mysteriously disappeared off itunes before I could upload it onto the ipod.

Enjoy the beach / sod it route!

spongebrainbigpants · 01/06/2008 09:10

alipalli, you're right 1st June is a great day for a birthday - but I'm biased cos it's mine!! We're having a load of friends over for a BBQ today to celebrate - and also to celebrate making it safely to 37 weeks, which means any time LO wants to make an appearance now he'll be fine. A major milestone for us.

Have to say, my first birthday being pregnant I've noticed that suddenly I don't get many presents - they're all for the baby instead!

Paro and pj, congrats on the births - is anyone going to have a 1st June baby?

Oh yes, and also have the shooting pains in my pelvic area - I assumed this was the baby's head as that's where he's landed now. Having sworn off induction in my original birth plan I'm now seriously considering being induced once I'm 40 + 1 . Am I being a wimp?

Upsidedowncake · 01/06/2008 09:18

Morning everyone

Neenz, it sounds like you are doing amazingly well, and that you are getting more sleep.

Allipalli, congratulations on reaching your due date! Poor you with baby hiccups.

Greenfairy, very impressed by all the gardening. Is this your new house?

Aberdeen, I agree with you about focusing on late dates. I know that the latest my baby will come is 6 July (bloody hell ... that's five weeks away!)

LOL, men filing! DH has a list of 'vital' things to do every weekend, and always manages to do the really necessary ones like filing.

I like the idea of the sod it route though it is p**sing down. What's it like in SCotland, DQ? I think I may take DS swimming

IDQ, too had a dreadful night's sleep. Even though I have about 20 people on standby, and have been told I am nowhere near popping, I am paranoid about going into labour while DH is in Vienna. And someone told me that it wouldn't happen unless I relaxed. So I spent the night like a coiled spring, physically preventing anything from happening, and watching the clock tick by ... 11 ... 12 ... 1.0 ... 2.0. I must have fallen asleep at about 3.0 only to wake at 6.0. Now I have a very bouncy DS to cope with. Think I will take him swimming!

Very chuffed. Got asked to be a godmother last night by a couple of friends. She is an obstetrician and had her no 2 in April. DS had spent the day there and I should have just asked to spend the night there ... I'm sure I would have slept a bit better!

PiggyPenguin · 01/06/2008 09:18

Morning everyone. Well I slept really well between 10-4 but then couldn't get back to sleep at all until 7.30, only to be woken up by the phone at 8. Still, in a few weeks time 6 hours a night might seem like a lot so I probably should get used to it.

Spongebrain - I'm with you on how attractive induction sounds as you get closer to term. Unfortunately I don't think my hospital would do mine earlier however hard I beg. My inital scan date also put me three days later than my normal dates which I have consistently refused to acknowledge as I know my dates are right, but the hospital would go by the scan so my induction would probably be about 15 days after my due date. In which case I can say goodbye to a June baby and hello to a July one. Sob.

spongebrainbigpants · 01/06/2008 09:24

sybil, hmm, don't know how my hospital would feel about induction tbh. Mum thinks I could play the age card, but I'm not that old (at least I don't think I am!). My original due date, going by my IVF cycle, was 28th June, but my dating scan brought it forward to the 22nd and that's the date the hospital have thankfully! (Have to say I was pretty surprised when it changed cos there's no grey area with your conception date with IVF - I can even tell you the time it happened! ).

I may get lucky and go into labour naturally anyway, but the pain in my hips/groin/knees/pelvis, coupled with ankles so swollen I swear I'm going to develop stretch marks on them, are making me feel that a July baby may just be the death of me!

alipalli · 01/06/2008 09:25

Happy birthday spongebrain, enjoy this extra special birthday and have a lovely BBQ with your friends.

Thanks UDC. Agree with you and Aberdeen about focusing on last possible date of arrival. I read in one book that you should think about a "due month" rather than a "due date" - so the two weeks either side of your due date. Hope that the swimming tires your DS out and is relaxing for you!

bitofadramaqueen · 01/06/2008 09:25

Spongebrain - I feel that you're being treated very unfairly re: birthday presents! But hope you have a fabulous day nontheless. I've also safely reached the 37 weeks mark today so very pleased about that!

It's still a bit cloudy here in Edinburgh at the mo, hard to tell whether its going to brighten up or not. I'm feeling absolutely shattered so not really sure if I'm up to much more than snoozing on the sofa all afternoon now...

UDC sorry you had a terrible nights sleep too. DH is away overnight later in the week so I suspect I will be the same. (mental note: arrange a couple of standby people!) He's away again next week but have arranged for someone to stay with me then.

Think I might go for a snooze.

sophiewd · 01/06/2008 10:11

Happy Birthday Sponge - hope you have a lovely BBQ.

aberdeenhiker · 01/06/2008 10:30

happy birthday sponge! It's another good friend of mine's birthday today too.

Hmm, about induction, my original LMP date was the 27th of May, maybe I could use that to get induced earlier. However, I have long cycles so I know the 5th is a more accurate date, but if my hip pain continues maybe I don't care. (Am slightly worried about the increased risk of c-section with induction, but also very tired and frustrated!).
