Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

woweeee, that pushchair looks fab. I love, love the colour (orange is my fav colour and was secretly hoping for an orange buggy!). it's so cheap, cheaper than my secondhand ebay M & P that I got for ds. i am trying to restrain myself from pushchair purchase till 28 weeks! do you know how kiddicare are about returns if i order it and push it around, see what it's like? i'll save it in my favourites. thanks so much

misdee · 16/06/2008 10:43

i am a pramaholic. please dont get a travel system. gett he best car seat that fits in your car (maxi cosi cabrio comes out best in which? tests) and a buggy that suits your lifestyle. babies can only be in car seats for 2hours at a time, and that includes time spent in cars travelling. buy a lie flat buggy. if you want a lightweight one that will see you through to toddlerdom then get a maclaren techno XT or XLR and pad it out with a sheepskin. if you want soemthing bigger, than have a good look around, and make sure it fits in your car, you can lift it, if you live i na flat that you can get it upstairs or it fits in your hallway. if possible, borrow an average size 2-3year old for the day and take them buggy testing so u can see what its like to push with an older child in it. dd3 has been pushed around john lewis in her old bugaboo by expentant mothers and fathers looking at buying one for their bumps.(sold it last summer when she got too big and got a mountain buggy instead).

i am getting a second hand bugaboo from a friend for the first year as i like the carrycot and rearfacing option, and have kept my mountain buggy elite(also second hand bargain) for 1year onwards. I will sell the bugaboo after a year or so, and get most if not all of my money paid out for it back as resale is good.

Tinkerisdead · 16/06/2008 11:00

Hi all, LOL misdee bump picture, i was looking in the fridge!!!!
Ive ordered my bugaboo, i can request it to be delivered anytime after july and wondering whether to get it. all the supersticious people tell me not to bring a pram into the house but a) i want a pram in the house so i can think ahhhh im deffo pregnant and b) i need months of practice to collapse the bloody thing!!!

still not sorted scan out and getting really pissed off...excuse my rant. i now think im gonna pay for a private one but the money earmarked for that is now being spent on insurance excess to get my car resprayed. the police rang me about the car and when bolting for the phone, i fell down the stairs. baby is fine as i landed like a cat/spiderman on hands and feet but ripped my toenail off!!!

still had no bloodtest results back either so i dont even know my blood group! independant midwife is great except that the nhs like to exclude you from any routine tests!

rant over, feeling well sorry for myself today well, for me and my toe! and my car! sob

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 11:01

misdee, you sound like an expert! i agree re. travel systems although my M & P was very light and I still use the buggy bit. my 'problem' is that i need a double buggy for twins. ds will have to walk or go on a buggy board. just been looking at pushchairs and realised i probably need a tandem as a double buggy will not fit through our doorway (single only just fits!). It will be a big hassle to have to put babies in and get babies out of buggy whilst standing outside, in winter, in rain and cold. i prefer the side by side, tbh,but this issue has just become important in the last 5 minutes! know of any tandems that will take newborns? also prefer a pneumatic wheel, easier to push i think, although never had one.

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 11:03

drs wife, you poor thing. it's not been a good couple of weeks! let's hope everything gets better from now on! do you have to respray the car? Ours is scratched and we haven't bothered.

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 11:03

Tinkerisdead · 16/06/2008 11:15

yes it needs a respray scatched deep across both doors and back wing. so annoyed, i left my job in Feb and parked the car near my old office. i swear its someone from there as i used to be a senior manager and had to discipline and sack loads of people etc(thats why i left in the end) and reckon someone took revenge. which i can sort of forgive but thats my baby's money i have to use now and thats what makes me tearful about it!!!

Arggghhh that an having no frigging results back at 18 weeks pregnant, when should i expect my double test results and my routine tests for rubella, HIV etc? am i being unreasonable or should i have had all this???

misdee · 16/06/2008 11:17

hmmm for twins, i would look at the the out and abour nipper, phil and teds twin, and mountain buggy double. these are the naroowest wheelbases on them.

chocolategal · 16/06/2008 11:29

drswife i think you should have had your double test results back, i got mine taken on the monday and results arrived in the post on the thurs. (this was at 16weeks).
my mw said i wouldnt get the results of my HIV, rubella, blood group etc unless there was a problem. the results will be written in the back of my notes which i pick up at my 20week scan.

hope your week gets better

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 11:30

yeah, but i still don't think they will get through our door...like the out and about nipper though. what do you think of jane powertwin. it's really, really, REALLY pricey but at least it is tandem.

I have a Mothercare Maui for sale if anyone is interested. The carrycot bit was used for three months only and the pushchair bit has never been used. It is basically a Hauck Infinity but rebranded for Mothercare. The pushchair can be rear or forward facing. It kind of looks like a bugaboo. It is immaculate apart from a tiny nick in the handlebar cushioning. Extras include changing backpack, cosytoes and 2 fitted pram sheets. I've got photos if anyone is interested. It's red and orange.

Anyway, it cost me £300 but we we're only looking for £150 for it, plus courier which will be about £20, or delivered if anywhere between Leeds and Boston, Lincs......The only reason we never used it was a friend of mine was selling some pushchairs that she tested and was allowed to keep and I bought a McLaren techno XLR from her which we used for our hols and then just kept using.

Will probably be seeling the techno as well

Tinkerisdead · 16/06/2008 11:37

Your deffo right hanaflower about mixing NHS and private, but i wouldnt go private if the midwifery service in my area was any good argghhhh!! ha ha right i feel much more reassured about blood test results. i'll sort the scan out and then chase results for myself i think. thanks for reassuring me... now how to reattach my toenail!!

on a positive note i went to Britains got Talent live tour show last night and got major fluttering in tummy when Escala performed...was lovely!

AutumnLady · 16/06/2008 11:52

Hi all

Just catching up with all the news so will have to do this in parts as trying to work as well

Drswife - I haven't had the results of my blood tests either and I went at the beginning of May! I'm seeing my GP this evening so will ask for them then, but think it's bad that no-one has told me already. I would be just as upset as you if I were getting that kind of inconsistent treatment and would also be tempted to go privately for some too! I am lucky here and the treatment at St Thomas's has been great so far. I also have a fantastic GP which helps. Just don't get too stressed out by it all as that only makes things worse

I posted your book on saturday morning too so hope it reaches you ok!

LOL lacka you sell away! My parents are buying us a pushchair and I looked at the Silver Cross 3D pram system on Friday with Mum and fell in love with it! It's a little on the heavy side but not too bad and I could push it around John Lewis in Bluewater with one hand!! It's pricey but mum's insistent that her first grandchild will have the best

I have had loads of stretching pains too and sometimes they've stopped me in my tracks but seem to have eased off a bit now. Lots of movements I think which I always thought was wind but it's not! V exciting but no proper kicks just yet. Am 19+1 today and still have to wait until 4th July for my next scan! That's ages away! very of all those who have had them and found out the flavour of their little bumps.

xx

The quinny buzz 4 which I am hopefully getting, will have the car seat, a carrycot, the pushchair (lays back for small baby)and footmuff etc... so should fulfill each requirement.

Pinkali37 · 16/06/2008 13:05

Oh blimey, have just arrive back from MW. Can't remember if I told you that there has been a mix up with my blood test results (not the HIV etc.. ) just what my blood group is. When i had 16 wk appointment, MW said I was A Rh Positive but I know I am A Rh Negative (which is kind of crucial as will need anti D etc..) anyway, went to give her the paperwork I had from different hospital when I had the mc in Oct last year. At the same time I did the Pinkali worry thing of is it normal not to grow in a week and she said pop on the bed. Top of uterus in right place AND HEARD THE HEARTBEAT AGAIN.... was so great...... I am now....... An unexpected surprise.

vbab78 · 16/06/2008 13:36

lackaDAISYcal - hope DD is ok.

misdee - completely agree about getting a good car seat just for the car and a good stroller or buggy.

My DS has always had maxi cosi seats which I got because of fantasic reviews and I think they are great. DS has had the same cheap stroller for nearly 2 years and is still going strong even if a little worn.

The petite star zia I have just bought is from birth, light, cheap (under £100), looks good and folds tiny. I viewed it at a shop based on the amazing reviews and decided nothing else came close. The reviewers who had previously had a quinny (holds maxi cosi) said the petite star is much better and I would have to agree.

doctorswife - OUCH! Glad you and baby are ok. I dont think you are being unreasonable wanting your scan and blood results!

Dozymare · 16/06/2008 13:47

Hello All - you all talk to much! I can't keep up!!! Regarding buggies - I second Missdee in that saying all you 1st time mums will end up with a maclaren,, epsecially if you are buying trael systems!!!!!

I am also a bit of a pramaholic and can recommend the following Mountain Buggy - have had single and double (although sold last year and will have to get another one, so if anyone knows of anyone selling a double, please let me know!!) Bugaboo - lovely but actually not practical unless you walk everywhere.....and have a big enough hall to not bother folding down everyday......it was a real pain to pout in and out of the car etc hence why I ended up keeping my Maclaren in the boot! Have also had Mama and Papa and Urban Detour which were both ok but quite bulky.

Trial and error has led the way for me, and I will now only have Mountain Buggies all the way!!!!!! Also got a very good re-sale!!!
