Our shiny new thread!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My thing isn't that i think my bump is small... it is that it hasn't grown significantly in last week, and having not been pregnant before I am unsure of whether this is normal!!!! Mine has neatened off in last week. So the question is, is it normal for the bump at 18 weeks to grow slowly and in stages???

Tinkerisdead · 14/06/2008 12:06

Afternoon pinkali, mine hasnt had much growth since last weekend i said to dh last night, am i small again? i feel like i have a flat tummy. he burst out laughing and said no your mahoosive still, your just so used to looking at it. i think he's right, im taking photos now to watch it grow. Think back just 3/4 weeks and you were freaking you had no bump and now ive seen you deffo got a baby in there!!! in my books it says your fundal height grows 1cm a week so it sounds good for you.

VBAB fab scan photo by the way and welcome to pookamoo.

My dh is golfing and im meant to be researching good camera and camcorder courtesy of my lovely MIL. thought i'd read on here for a bit. Put coldplay on and now ive felt really strong flutters!!! ive been so vigilant listening to classic FM trying to make the baby cultured so it will drift off to brahms or something but nope it seems to like the parachutes album!!!

LouiseSJ · 14/06/2008 13:07

Hi everyone. I've just had a quick scan through, but as usual I can't possibly keep up with you all.

Twinklingfairly don't worry about the fibroids. I've got them too. They were noted at the first scan in my first pregnancy. I never knew they were there before that, but it explained why I have always had heavy, painful periods. Anyway they are only a problem if they are close to the cervix as they could obstruct the baby's exit during birth. However, I have one close to the cervix, but as the uterus got larger through the course of the pregnancy the fibroid moved up and out of the way. I was due to have a scan at 37 weeks to check on the size and position of the fibroids. If they were in the way I may have had to have a c section. I didn't get that far as my baby was born at 36+2. I had a normal birth and the fibroids caused no problem.

As for bump size, mine seems to have grown huge overnight. Everybody's bump is different. I did have a huge bump last time, but fortunately, didn't put on much weight anywhere else. People kept telling me I was having a boy as I was "all bump". I had a little girl. I'm pleased to say no stretch marks last time and hopefully I won't have any this time.

Have a good weekend everyone. I'll try to catch up again next week.

Oblomov · 14/06/2008 16:42

Pinkali, and others, my bump is big. But then I am no 'skinny' anyway. But it has not particularly grown in the last week or so. Do not worry - you are such a worrier are you grey already

lackaDAISYcal · 14/06/2008 17:44

I haven't posted my book either

I will do it on Monday morning I promise.

I finished my breast feeding peer supporter training today, so I am officially a Breast Buddy . Next I'm doing Mother Supporter with the Association of Breast feeding Mothers, then hope to go on to do the full Breastfeeding Counsellor course. I feel really pleased that after 15 months of not working, I've done something positive and constructive and that is for and about me, rather than the DCs.

My bump looks much smaller as well at the minute. I think you just get used to it really.

xoxo · 15/06/2008 11:11

pinkali37, don't worry. I've had two already and the second bump did loads of stops and starts; panicking as heck, but all very normal. From your pics you're doing very well
if you genuinely feel that other symptoms have droppped (difficult to tell in the second tri as they start to drop off anyway) then see your gp but I'm sure you're just being protective.

relax and try to enjoy it. the puking stage is over, everything lese is easy!

twinklingfairy · 15/06/2008 11:15

Oh LouiseSJ that was so nice of you to share your story. I will love telling it to DH. I was ready to accept that I would defo be in for a c section (they want me to have one anyway, incase baby is big and gets stuck again) but now I can hope that things might just be ok for a natural birth
Thank you!!

We are off to another pool miles away, as a treat for DH cos it is fathers day. It has a jacuzzi and a sauna (for DH, I hate those things) and the pool is always warm, unlike our local which can be freezing!!
Hope you are all having lovely days.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 15/06/2008 12:28

Twinkling one of my best friends has trouble with fibroids. She had a major operation a few years ago to remove a huge one- she was lucky to not have a hysterectomy. However, she didn't, had a good pregnancy and subsequently had a normal delivery for her fist son, but had to go for an elcs for her second because of the position of the fibroid. They can grow a bit more rapidly because of pregnancy hormones, but they are closely monitored and she has two beautiful healthy sons!
She is so sweet as she always feels sorry for me being so sick when I'm pregnant but really my pregnancies are problem free. I am so happy she manged to have her family.

Yorky · 15/06/2008 19:33

Hope everyone has had a nice day. DH was taken to the funfair which has been in town this week and had hot dogs and candy floss for lunch! He got to go on the baby rides, and DS even let him ring the bell while he was 'driving' the fire engine round in circles!

vbab78 · 15/06/2008 19:59

Just thought I would let you ladies know I have finally got properly excited about baby no2 and put miscarriage stuff to bed and bought my buggy. I'm calling it a half way there present as I am 20 weeks tomorrow.

I've bought the Petite Star Zia which is as fantastic as all the reviews have said. I've got the black one but plan on getting a pink (cranberry apparently) or blue colour cosy toe once baby is here to brighten it up. On top of the amazing buggy I got it at a good price of £99.95.

misdee · 15/06/2008 20:01

i have added a 'bump' pic to my profile

MerryMarigold · 15/06/2008 20:02

Hi all the smaller bump people. Sorry didn't mean to come across 'arsey'. Just feeling so unwieldy at the moment and beginning to dread the later stages...

As for not growing. For me it really depends on what I have eaten...if my stomach is digesting well, and first thing in morning before I have eaten, bump is smaller. Now, after few chocolates, cokes, steak my stomach is ALOT bigger. I can't really starve myself so it's mostly big with babies AND stomach! I think it does grow in fits and starts though. I start thinking, it hasn't changed much for a week, and then i suddenly explodes again (oooh, not a nice image, but you know...)

Been sharing my birthday with father's day. Bday is tomorrow but we had a big bbq yesterdsy for my bday and today we are all a bit too tired to do a lot for father's day except prezzie and card. Poor dh . Luckily he is not really a 'celebrating' type person (a friend organised my party).

PInkyminkyohnooo · 15/06/2008 20:05

that's great news vbab! The pram looks very cool. Is it a lie flat buggy or does it have a carrycot?

lackaDAISYcal · 15/06/2008 21:57

lol Yorky....DS took DH to Tropical World to see the new Meerkat enclosure as his FD treat

glad you are feeling more positive about things vbab. My DH bought me a huge bunch of Happy Halfway flowers with DD (after two mc/s). I have a feeling I wont get the same level of treat this time around, although he did buy me a big bar of Galaxy last night. The pram looks great. I am convinced by a Phil and Teds now, but have seen a great review of the Vibe, which is of course, much more expensive than the Sport.

am thinking I might make do with a sling and the buggy we already have!

misdee your girls are just sooooooo cute .

I've gone through the no symptoms ond no movement worry, but have been getting regular movements for a few days now...in fact since I posted about not feeling anything

lackaDAISYcal · 15/06/2008 22:02

oops posted too quickly. Meant to add please try not to worry and bear in mind everyone and every pregnancy and bump is very different. No one size fits all unfortunately

Happy Birthday for tomorrow MerryM

Dozy (or anyone else on the book club) can you email me the list again. I have a new pooter and for some reason can't access my inbox on my old one. We gave it to DS and I think he has pressed a wrong button. It's there but just won't open!

tostaky · 15/06/2008 22:20

About bump size - i also know a girl who is due the same date as me and when i compare our bump (we are built the same) her's bigger than mine, especially the top part...
another friend this week-end told me that i will grow soon...
but i hate it when people say i dont look PG just chubby or with a bit of belly

I should stop comparing myself to others bc i dont want to be the anxious mum comparing my babie's performance with other babies (ooh mine's walking before yours, yes but mine got one more teeth...!!) Im probably to insecure..

Happy birthday MM it is quite nice you can share the day with father day!

Misdee - your girls are so cute!!!
lackadaisy - great news about the movements!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 15/06/2008 22:24

lacksadaisy- I think the vibe is pretty good- a friend has one. It looks quite bulky and a bit plasticky, but a big advantage is that both seats can recline at the same time, which you can't do with the old type.
DS doesn't go in the buggy much, he's 3 now, and was never much for sleeping in the buggy. If he wants a ride he tends to hop in the back, but if DD is sleeping in the front, there is no room on the back seat. So if you think DD will want to sleep in the front seat when your new baby is six months+ I'd be inclined to consider the Vibe- though it's a lot of money!

I used my sling a lot, but you may want to put your baby down at the park etc. so I'd get a buggy that will lie flat, so you can put baby down when you arrive. Two this close can be a major juggling act at times!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 15/06/2008 22:31

totsaky- bump size depends on so many factors- your body shape, tummy muscles, etc. I was huge with DS, got big quickly with DD but never got huge- she was smaller and I think there was less fluid, but both perfectly healthy.

It's interesting in passing conversation, but nothing to worry about. I was 'all bump' with both but then I lost a LOT of weight.

bubbaz · 16/06/2008 07:52

Happy birthday MM. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. We have all had a stomach bug DS first then DH and me yesterday - Although I only had cramps so got off lightly. On the up side I am now getting full on kicks and seem to have a very active baby through the day - It never stopped yesterday!!

MM... don't worry about what you said, I ignored the fact you sounded in a mood [pinkali and hopes MM is too...] By the way, happy birthday, hope you have a good day.

Misdee, what cuties!!!!

Dr's wife, I said the same to my DH... has it shrunk ??? He laughed and said not.

I can't wait to feel it move. Everytime I think, ooh could that be it, I then realise it was just wind!!!

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 10:17

thanks pinkali! Maybe the wind is movement, they feel quite similar to me! Also, I know my placentas are on left side and never feel anything there, all the movement is on the left and middle. I think the girl moves more than the boy!

Thanks for bday wishes. Doesn't really feel like bday as celebrated on Sat. And been getting my head around 35 for the past few months, so no big shock there!

Keep looking at buggies, but really have no idea what to do...it's the same dilemma as when you have one. Do you go for travel system that can take car seats with sleeping babies (usually very robust buggies but also heavy and VERY expensive) or something lighter, cheaper, which doesn't take the seat. Arghhhh. I think on balance it is not worth the 3 months or so where they stay sleeping in seat for a bit. I know I will want the lighter one very quickly! But having spent all that cash, will not be able to justify it. Vbab your petite zia looks great, and also light.

lackaDAISYcal · 16/06/2008 10:23

MM, i saw a twin three wheeler on the kiddicare website that was reasonably cheap. Not sure how robust it was though! I'll see if I can find the link.

Happy Birthday btw

I'm waiting for major fallout from DD this morning. She was crawling around in the garden when I was pottering about. I realised she was eating something.....unripe holly berries! Not sure how many she has eaten, but she is a bit drooly (but that could be her teeth). NHS Direct said symptoms unlikely to be serious unless she ate lots of them (in 10 minuts, anything is possible), but to look out for nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting and diahorrea. Just what I need...a sicky baby . They told me to give her milk to drink and be vigilant. Poor thing!

lackaDAISYcal · 16/06/2008 10:25

Here it is

MerryMarigold · 16/06/2008 10:33

Oh dear, hope dd will be fine, lackadaisy. ds has eaten all sorts...i'm sure she didn't eat much as they must have tasted pretty yuck. still believe it is more important to give them their freedom and like a few things like this happen, than to mollycoddle. we never had stairgates and ds never fell downstairs until he was past 2 and was perfectly capable, but just decided to climb stiars with about 5 balls in his arms! anyway, he didn't even have concucssion.
