Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congrats on all the scans! Must be so exciting to find out the sex, although I definitely want to save the suprise for the birth.

My sis found out yesterday that her 8 month old already has some serious allergies despite following all the recommendations (my sis is allergic to sunflower seeds). Baby is allergic to all dairy (normally only happens after a few weeks of formula, and she's never had any), eggs, and peanuts (normally doesn't develop until 18 months). My sis is avoiding dairy as she had worked out that the baby's excema was made worse - obviously getting through in breast milk. All a bit rubbish, but she's lucky to have a very happy and otherwise healthy child.

Anyone else avoiding peanuts during pregnancy (no need unless you have serious allergies in family).

thomasina1 · 13/06/2008 16:00

MM that's great news, lucky you! How many weeks are you now? I'll have to go and check the stats thread.

I'm having an internal scan to check my cervix (as I mentioned a few pages ago) next Tues at 18 wks so am wondering if they'll tell me the sex then?

Could someone ressure me - I'm postive I felt baby move on Monday but have felt nothing since... everything is OK, isn't it?

MM, sounds like your hospital is better organised than mine. For me the ultrasound dept is 3 floors up from the antenatal dept and although my consultant wnated me scanned last week they can't do me till next Tues! Not really a joined-up service! Sorry, I've ranted about this already I know. Anyway, I'm surprised as this is UCH - anyone else going there?

SoExcited · 13/06/2008 16:04

I Thomasina, I wouldn't worry about only feeling movements occassionally to begin with. I felt baby early (14+0), but then only every few days or so. I'm now 17+4 and definitely don't feel it every day. Once they're kicking us properly we'll feel it more often. At the moment, we probably don't notice loads of the movements.

bubbaz · 13/06/2008 16:05

Thomasina I have felt movent on and off for about 5 weeks now I'm only just starting to notice it being ore often and I am 19 wks. Its perfectly normal until aout 22 ish weeks when you start to feel it more often and stronger!!

thomasina1 · 13/06/2008 16:09

Great, thanks soexcited and bubbaz, I knew someone would be quick to post to reassure me. Thank you

LolaBella · 13/06/2008 17:36

Oh Merry what lovely news - one of each - you sound so happy from your post too.
I just love coming home to all this scan news. Whose next??

MerryMarigold · 13/06/2008 18:08

Thomasina - I am at Whipps X in East London. They have a couple of scanners in Antenatal Clinic but the proper ultrasound dept is a good 10mins walk away! They do the 20wk anomaly scan in the 'proper' place because the equipment is a bit more sophisticated. I am 18+4 today, so they should be able to tell you the sex of your baby when you have your scan, if they can be bothered. This consultant was a lovely, jolly chap, so I think I'll stick with this hospital now (was thinking of moving to Homerton).

Thanks for all the congrats...I'm still not sure whether to trust it. I went shopping today and restrained myself from buying any baby stuff (will wait till sale time!), though managed to buy myself a cardigan to celebrate!

soexcited I have been mostly avoiding peanuts because ds had quite bad eczema. It's under control now...seems to have got better as he got older, but it was truly awful when he was about 6-18mths, he couldn't sleep the poor, little mite. It doesn't seem to be affected at all by diet (he has loads of dairy now). I do miss peanut butter and a friend of mine makes a delicious African peanut stew, so I have indulged in that on rare occasions! Sorry about your sister's baby, it's a pain foodwise but I suppose you get used to it.

thomasina I am not feeling much movement either. Occasionally, like last night I had a hot chocolate and it was obv. a bit uncomfortable for poor little ds (who is nearer the top of my uterus) so he was kicking around a bit. With my last child, if I lay in the bath he would always move around, but I think that was a bit later on like 24wks+. Believe me, the kicks are nice but when you have them at night they can get a bit tedious and you also worry more when you haven't felt any for a few hours, so am enjoying this time at the moment where I don't feel a lot of movement.

misdee · 13/06/2008 18:32

soexcited,. with previokus 3 pregnancies i avoided peanuts. however, all my dd's have allergies (not to nuts), to additives, cats, dustmites etc, plus asthma in the older two (am expecting dd3 to get it when she reaches about 7 tbh, as thats when dh was dx with it) and hayfever in all three, that this time, i am allowing myself to have peanut butter on toast, as uit actually helps comabt my morning sickness as a good source of protein, high energy snack. after following guidlines and it have no effect (although dd3 is a lot milder than the other two but i think thats cos i breastfed for 2years+), i am taking a small risk this time. i know it seems so irresponsible,. but have since read conflicting research that say to eat nuts to avoid allergies.

please excuse my worse than usual typos, i burnth my fingers yesterday when cooking and have a couple of blisters which are affecting my typing.

zonedout · 13/06/2008 19:54

congratulations merry!!! such very lovely news.

vbab78 · 13/06/2008 20:34

HELLO - Just thought I would give you an update. Unfortunately I will have to read your posts tomorrow as really busy.

Been for 19 week scan and baby is doing fine. The scan was the best I have had. Me and DH thought it was amazing. Baby was on their belly at first, which I have never seen, then flipped onto their back. We even saw baby stretching arms and legs and yawning.

We didn't find out the flavour but DH thought he saw boy bits but said he cant be sure. We also found out very low risk spina and 1 in 57,000 for DS.

Can't believe I'm 20 weeks on Monday!

I've added baby's and bump pictures to my profile. [hmmm]

pookamoo · 13/06/2008 20:36

Hello November 08 Mummies!
I am due 13th Nov, can I join your thread?
Getting very excited now, and my tummy seems to get bigger every day (although I am assured it is NOT twins!)
x

lackaDAISYcal · 13/06/2008 20:53

wow MM...that's fantastic news; one of each

misdee am admiring your hardcore MNing with burnt fingers and all.

My newborn nappies arrived today.....sooooooo cute and small

I sneezed the other day and doubled up in pain with my ligaments, but I've had problems sonce being pregnant wiht DD. Pilates deep abdominal exercises are good for toning things up; as are the old pelvic floor exercises.

I have a very deep "innie" belly button which hasn't popped out in either of my pregnancies.....not sure I'll be as lucky this time, but so far so good.

I've had DS at home all day as he was still a bit peaky this morning. He is now complaining of a sore neck so think he might have whiplash to add to the concussion. If he is still complaining tomorrow I might call back to A&E and see what they say.

helloo to everyone else

lackaDAISYcal · 13/06/2008 20:59

cross posted with you vbab. Congrats on the scan....the pic is sooo clear .

Your DS is very cute as well.

I didn't realise you were in Yorkshire. If we get a northen meet up organised you'll need to come along. there are a few of us around leeds/york

Hi and congratulations to Pookamoo and welcome to the thread . Add yourself to the STATS list. Just copy and paste the previous entry and add yourself in

I hadn't looked at the list for ages until now...it's bloody enormous

pookamoo · 13/06/2008 21:13

Thanks Daisy, have added myself.

I sometimes get the "sneeze-ligaments" thing which was a bit worrying at first but now I'm starting to get used to the ligament type pain so I can recognise it. To begin with I was worried I wouldn't know what was just tummy ache and what was the baby.

My tummy has grown SO QUICKLY though (pic on my profile) for a first baby does this happen often?? I am told by MW there is only 1 baby in there, but I think it's going to be a BIG one!

lackaDAISYcal · 13/06/2008 21:19

that is a BIG pone Pookamoo, but there are a few of us wioth comparable bumps, so within normal limits I think

there was a thread on here the other day about bump size vs baby size and there doesn't seem to be any correlation. I think a lot has to do with how good your tummy muscles are before pregnancy. Mine were shot to pieces after DS and never ever recovered.

zonedout · 13/06/2008 21:25

more lovely news vbab, many congatulations on your good scan!

welcome to pookamoo... yes, its a biggy but mine is definitely a fair bit bigger still i am officially enormous. and i can't stop eating. in fact i have just made myself feel rather ill with an excess of choccie rasins [feeling sick emoticon]

pookamoo · 13/06/2008 21:29

DH is worried this is going to be an ACTUAL jelly baby, the number I have been eating!
I knew I should have been doing more situps before TTC!

I won't worry too much.

SIL who has 2yo twins just looks at me knowingly and reminds me I still have 5 months to go!

lackaDAISYcal · 13/06/2008 21:33

lol

Yorky · 13/06/2008 21:34

Hello again chatterboxes!
What an exciting few days I've missed - scans and genders all over, I still have ages to wait for next scan (July 9, same as MM)
I took DS down to Portsmouth for a couple of days as that is where DH is working atm, and we stayed with friend who was very excited to be asked to be Bumps Godmum. Had a lovely time and went round their outlet centre and got a couple of pairs of trousers - feel I can justify it now as have to undo jeans button when sitting down for any length of time!
After my lovely chat with other midwife on Tues, was thoroughly depressed by my MW who seems to want to do things by the book and hospitalise and drug me. Deal with her later, don't see her again till September when I'll be 28 weeks, has anyone else got this long between appts? Heard the HB again, lovely and clear but DS bawled his eyes out, hes not keen on noises he doesn't understand. And she said my bump is growing nicely, DH says I look pregnant - which I do depending on how much stomach muscle I'm using at the time!
Think I'm starting to feel movements, wriggles not kicks, and very infrequent, I can still tell myself its wishful thinking!
DS was horrible last might and ended up in our bed, which I loved, even though it took him ages to go to sleep. It is SO nice to wake up with him snuggled next to me. It was probably the first time I've missed BFing since we stopped, I am now really looking forward to be able to plug the new one on and make it all better - baby tranquiliser on tap!
Sorry for long post, nice ot be back.
Will post book tomorrow Lacksa - sorry!

tostaky · 14/06/2008 05:07

I'm quite worried about my bump size when i look at everybodys bumps. I'm 18wks + 3 days but if you look at my pics which are there picasaweb.google.com/chmarceau/BabyBelly I'm nowhere near having a nice pretty bump like most of you have(and i havent bulge since that 16 wk picture) (the 40 wk pic is with a strap-on bump in the changing rooms)
Im trying to reassure myself that at my 12 wk scan baby was ok, then at 17wks, heartbeat was heard and fine + im feeling movements from time to time so it cant be that bad... but im really anxious something is wrong..

Pinkali37 · 14/06/2008 09:54

Tokasky - I am the same today. I feel like my bump hasn't grown in last week. I measured it and officially it has onyl grown about 1cm. It is concerning isn't it??! I just telephoned my sister and she said it does goes in fits and starts at our stage (i'm 18 + 1) and then more regularly once you get to about 24 weeks. I have either got used to the size or it is shrinking!!

IS THIS RIGHT EVERYONE???????? Does it not grow everyday (well noticeably) anyway. HELP....

Vbab- excellent bump!!!

MM What absolutely lovely news, how perfect!

LolaBella · 14/06/2008 09:55

Tostaky im 20 + 3 and when people find out im 5 months pregnant they say 'what?? you can't be you're so small' im starting to get a complex too. Had my 20 week scan last week and mentioned it to the mw - who said i should consider myself lucky as baby is on target for growth and its prob just the way it is laying. So please try not to worry - the mw said you will just wake up one day and you will be like 'oh yep there it is'

Great news that you are feeling movement too as baby is obviously growing and getting stronger. Is this your first too?

Pinkali37 · 14/06/2008 09:58

Lola.. my sister mentioned that as well. That the baby could be laying in a different position.

I haven't felt any movement. Each night I get on top of the bed on my back and wait but nothing. Well I don't think i feel it. Every now and again I think ooh was that it, but it turns out to be my tummy making funny noises.

MerryMarigold · 14/06/2008 10:22

You with small bumps, consider yourself VERY LUCKY. 2 of my friends had small bumps, got a bit bigger at the end (but still about where I am now) and one of them wore her 'NORMAL JEANS' out of hospital and the other is back in her usual clothes 1 month after birth. It took me nearly 2 years, and I never lost all the stretched skin. Plus at the end you just look huge and unwieldy rather than attractive. I am in the 'attractive' stage now, but it won't be long before that's all lost and I have to wear huge clothes that make me look ENORMOUS, when I am not that huge up top or on my hips, but in order to fit all the way over bump, I need to wear size 18 maternity when I am usually a size 12. So there!!! Be grateful.

ceebee74 · 14/06/2008 11:06

Morning everyone.

Agree with MM about those of you with small bumps - enjoy it! I saw some friends who I haven't seen for a while yesterday and they couldn't believe I was only 16 weeks pg cos I look big - made me feel a whole lot better about myself
