I haven't been on in a while, so thought i'd pop in I had my first booking appt at 14 weeks with the midwife, and won't actually see anybody again until I am 28 weeks. I think they kind of just let you get on with it now. I haven't even had a chance to hear the heart beat or anything I am sure I saw someone in between with ny 2nd pregnancy. Is this the same for everyone? Was also chuffed as my triple test was low risk, my last one was v high, so now I can relax about that part anyway. Glad to see that so many of us are still here

majormoo · 25/06/2008 20:38

Allie that seems like a bit of a long wait between appointments but it does vary depending on where you live. I had a 16 week appointment, then will have one at 20 weeks and one at 25. However, the 20 week one is only going to be 10 minutes and just to listen to the heartbeat

rosmerta · 25/06/2008 21:05

evening everyone!

I've found drinking lots of water from this morning seems to have staved off any headaches! But think I will get some of those forehead thingies just in case it was a one off!

verso sorry to hear about the hospital, sounds awful.

majormoo how annoying, I would be peed off as well.

Funny how everyone's got different appts. My next one is the 20 week scan & then I see the mw at 24 & 28 weeks, which is the same schedule as when I had ds.

EffiePerine · 26/06/2008 08:46

Verso: how worrying. Did you get to talk to your mw? I find it v strange that they didn;t even listen for the heartbeat - avoid that hospital in future!

Rosmerta: I've lost the meet-up thread (wah), could you post another link?

Re maternity clothes, for the first timers I would stress the usefulness of having some in-between clothes that aren't maternity ones (i.e. a size or two bigger). You'll still be bigger after the birth and if you're anything like me will hate the thought of still wearing maternity gear! Plus it does not look that great on a deflated bump...

majormoo · 26/06/2008 08:59

that is definitely a good point EP. It is horrible when you realise you still look quite pregnant after the big event and nothing fits.

EffiePerine · 26/06/2008 09:08

of course you may all be fitting into your pre-pg jeans a few weeks after the birth

zoejeanne · 26/06/2008 09:31

Thanks for that advice EffiePerine - I'm hoping to get into town tomorrow, so will avoid the maternity departments for a while and just go for clothes with LOTS of stretch!

JamInMyWellies · 26/06/2008 12:34

oh effie, I know for some reason I just thought my tummy would spring back in didnt think it would look like a deflated balloon for several wks after.

mibbes · 26/06/2008 13:13

EP thanks for the advice - will get myself some larger sized jeans so I have something to wear - it is a very good point as am realistic enough to know that I won't be back in normal clothes for a while and refuse to put pressure on myself (there will be enough going on !) - top tip Keep them coming !
I am on a mission to drink gallons of water (well not quite, but you get the idea !). How much water is it suggested us preggy burds drink ? I had 2 75cl bottles of water yesterday and 2 pints of diluting juice in the evening and I still woke with a raging thirst and really dark dehydrated wee I thought I'd done well MW told me I need to take on more fluids but I am trying ! Any advice ? What are the effects on baby of me being dehydrated ?

EffiePerine · 26/06/2008 13:22

Mibbes: are you sipping water through the day? Yu can get through loads that way. not sure about how much you're supposed to drink, but fairly sure I'm not drinking enough

rosmerta · 26/06/2008 14:16

sign up, sign up for the London meet up

I think normally we're supposed to have around 8 pints of water a day, does it change when you're pg?

Mibbes I know how you feel, I drink so much water & squash & am still thirsty through the night. I've found cutting out caffeine helps a little

PinguRocks · 26/06/2008 14:56

Hello ladies
I've just discovered this thread and would like to join in. I'm due 25 December and this will be my first one....

rosmerta · 26/06/2008 14:58

hi pingurocks, congratulations & welcome to the thread! No doubt you'll soon be sucked in

mibbes · 26/06/2008 16:23

OMG I wish I knew what the baby moving is supposed to feel like as I definitely just felt something and pretty sure it wasn't wind... it was like a tiny wee kick - is that possible or is it just butterflies to start with ? I'm not sure I'm going to like this when it gets more frequent and harder

I read in my PG book last night that from 17 week baby can react to loud noise and may move around loads e.g. at a music concert - and I'm off to see Kylie tomorrow night so baby may have its first boogy with the Queen of Pop herself - whooppeee !

Thanks for hydration chat ladies - am trying to sip water throughout the day - have resolved to have a bottle of water with me at all times to maximise hydration

mibbes · 26/06/2008 16:30

sorry am so selfish - welcome pingurocks, loads of lovely and very knowledgeable ladies on here Congrats on xmas baby !

JamInMyWellies · 26/06/2008 16:56

Hola! pingurocks, welcome to the madness.

So headache sorted after drinking quite literally gallons of squash today know just peeing every 30 mins. grrr.

zoejeanne · 26/06/2008 17:11

Hi pingurocks - I joined this thread earlier this week and everyone has been very nice. I'm due on Christmas Eve, also with my first.

On hydration - all that water's good, but I get up enough in the night to wee as it is!

kayzisexpecting · 26/06/2008 18:58

Hello!!

Welcome pingurocks This is a lovely place to be!!

Allie I saw someone last week and then I wont see my MW until I'm 24 weeks. I think with second pregnancies they don't tend to see you as much.

I had real pregnancy brain moment today at work. I put a plate of sliced turkey in the sink instead of back in the counter. My supervisor found it hilarous(sp)

I thought I may have had movements last night. It was like something was going pop. It was nothing like wind or butterflies.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 27/06/2008 09:03

Thin I've been feeling movements as well, but not definite yet. DS was on the go all the time (a precursor of things to come) so I'm hoping this one is more relaxed

Welcome Pingurocks

monkeydops · 27/06/2008 10:23

hello pingurocks!

Right then all of you lot who already have several DC - do any of them share rooms? If so what did you do? I'm kind of assuming that this baby will be in with us for a while before sharing with ds2 (who'll be 2 when it's born). Should I try and re-arrange his room before the baby is born? not sure how to really if the cot will have to be in with us for a bit. Advice from more experienced mums please!

PinguRocks · 27/06/2008 10:34

Thanks everyone. I've just started to read back to see what I've missed but I think it might take a while!

On the appointment front I've had one with the midwife and had my 12 week scan and then don't see anyone until 21 weeks. I kind of expected it to be a bit more hands on to be honest but it seems like they see you more regularly after that....

EffiePerine · 27/06/2008 10:37

Monkey: DS is still in with us so no advice! The recommendation is to have them in your room for the first 6 months, so you have plenty of time to plan
