I'll have to go get the list.

kayzisexpecting · 16/06/2008 19:11

Thats what my MW said last time Artichokes. I put on loads with DS so hoping not to put on as much.

I am very angry this evening. I won't ruin our lovely thread with my rants. I'll just link to it. Here if you want to look.

Kayzi I'm saying no more, except I think you handled it beautifully!

I read that we all gain weight differently; in one book I have it says you don't really gain in the first trimester, and in another it says you can gain up to 10lbs in the first trimester. Both books are by obstetric consultants. What they all seem to agree on is that if you aim for a couple of stone by the end (depending on starting weight) then that's fine. Some people put it on more quickly at the start, and some put it on later. I wouldn't worry. I put on nothing until week 10, then suddenly went up 5lbs in a couple of days. I'm certainly looking pregnant now (13+1).

I told my form group today that I'm expecting, and they said that they had suspected but were too polite to ask. Bless! At my old school I was continually being asked if I was pregnant, but I wasn't! The upsetting thing was, I was actually quite slim back then. Cruel teenagers!

EffiePerine · 16/06/2008 20:54

Great news on the results Hatty

Scan at 1:30 tomorrow, am at home (and DS at CMs) so am plannig to catch up on a bit of rest (and work of course ).

Kayz: could the loss be water? I don't seem to be as bloated now and I wondered if it was that.

rosmerta · 16/06/2008 21:09

hi all, got back from holiday on Friday but seem to have been too busy the last few days to get on MN

Southernbelle, sorry to hear about your mc

Hope everyone else is well, I've had a quick scan but I'm not ready to try a huge post a la Indith!

Kayz, read your other thread , agree with abbeymeg you handled it nicely!

Holiday seems to have done me good in that I'm now craving salads & vegetables rather than crisps & chocolates. Maybe there's hope for Junior yet

mibbes · 16/06/2008 21:13

abbymeg ahh bless your polite form group
kayz what a grumpy, nosey old git - you handled the situation very well !
rosmerta welcome back missus !

JamInMyWellies · 17/06/2008 09:12

effie good luck with the scan today.

Kayz what a grumpy old man, beautifully handled.

Anyone else scanning today?

Now quick question we are thinking about having a holiday first wk of sep I will be bang on 6mth what do you reckon airlines arent going to be arses about me flying shall I lie if asked? Also we are mucho skint at the mo so are thinking of doing one of those teletext package hols havnt done anything like that since I was a teenager, its not going to be all 18-30 type peeps is it?

artichokes · 17/06/2008 09:29

Jam - will youe be under 28 weeks. For most airlines that is the cut-off for not needing a medical note. We are going to Sicilly when I am 27 weeks.

jenduck · 17/06/2008 09:35

Hatty - congrats on your good test results. What a relief for you!

Kayz - I am at what happened to you. My mother always told me you should only criticise other people when you are perfect yourself... Seems like that old man would have done well to heed that advice! But well handled

Effie - Good luck for your scan today!

Jam - we have also been thinking of hols, so I've been reading up. Most airlines will let you fly up to 28 weeks short haul no problem, I believe, although best to check individual websites. You can get a letter from your GP stating you are OK to fly, which might be useful even if you are not that far on. Also, don't forget you can get Eurostar/ferry to a lot of places, might be worth investigating?

I went to see midwife yesterday for what would normally be 16 week appointment (I had it at 15+1 due to measles scare). Turns out I am immune to measles - phew! & not a carrier, & all my blood tests came back clear, so I'm happy . I also heard baby's heartbeat, when it finally stayed still for long enough! The midwife said I've got a little monkey in there! Takes after it's dad, I say . Amazing to hear heartbeat though.

GettingBiggerBird · 17/06/2008 09:56

Morning everyone
Kayz - not surprised you were so cross. I am very sensitive at the moment so I hate to think what my reaction would have been. But then my days of being mistaken for a teenager are long gone.

No weight gain until 16 weeks - ha! I've put on about a stone already. I read something last night that said with twins, there are 20 extra pints of water sloshing around - where one earth is that? It does explain the instant cellulite though. I've noticed that my bump has popped right out at the front now I've told most people, maybe I was subsconsciously (unsuccessfully) trying to hold it in before.

Flights - don't know, I'm afraid, I avoided them later on in my first pregnancy and don't think I'll be doing any this time round (the thought of trying to cope with my DD climbing all over me, bored, in a confined space, is too much), but catch some rays for me, I'm jealous. Lots of camping in store for us this summer...

Helloo everyone, my lovely Step-MIL kindly bought my a HUGE box of Dime bars on Sunday and I have Sunday YUM!!!!

Can I just ask your opinion on something please you lovely pregnant ladies, I look after my friends two children whilst she works (as well as my own 2) her eldest DS was sent home from scholl yesterday for being sick. His Dad was able to take the afternoon off and collect. He continued being sick all afternoon. I called my friend later on to see how he was and she commented that I would see for myself tomorrow. I said was she planning on leaving him with me for the day and she said 'yes, why?' AIBU in thinking that she should take the day off work and stay at homw with him?? My DS (20mths) has severe chicken pox and I onv preg. I asked if she would mind not bringing him round as I don't really want to catch a bug and DS is not 100%.

She has taken the day off but I was made to feel like a complete cow, I feel awful today now but don't think I was in the wrong!!

Flumpybumpy · 17/06/2008 10:29

Where did the end of my sentence go??? I typed 'and I have munched trhough about 20 since Sunday, YUM!!'

artichokes · 17/06/2008 11:07

Of course you are being reasonable Turnip. D&V bugs are contagious for 24 hours after the patient stops being sick. For that reason you never send a sick child to school or anywhere in cotact with other kids. Why should your kids and you get sick? I would tell her that I was disturbed that she assumed it was OK to ask you to look after her son when he had a cotagious bug.

artichokes · 17/06/2008 11:07

Sorry that messge was for Flumpy not Turnip!

simmo14 · 17/06/2008 14:29

Hi all. It's been ages since I last posted. I have been lurking and checking out the posts but realy wanted to wait til after 12 weeks after all the stress I have had recently.
I had the scan and it was so great to see the heart beat. They have given me a due date of the 27th Dec- so it looks like I may get my Christmas Dinner after all!
Just weighing up the decision now as to whether to go for a nuchal scan or just the blood test route. I am 35 in Oct and not really too sure what to do??
Just glad th emorning sickness has died down. Having cravings for Chocolate limes but having read the dime bar postings I may just have to pop to the ships for some of them on the way home.
Hope everyone is well
Simmo x

Olipop · 17/06/2008 14:51

Hi everyone...I've been a bit slack as my blimmin' broadband keeps failing and my patience has been too thin to persevere with it for too long!!!
Glad everyone is doing well.
Had my booking in on Thursday and it went fine...except for a huge emotional outpouring at the end which also had my (pregnant) midwife in tears . The upshot was that they managed to squeeze me in for a very quick scan at the EPU to set my mind at rest and sure enough, bubba was fine. God..pregnancy turns your emotions to mush!
I'm off with DS and DH to Spain tomorrow so will have to catch up with you all soon. Take care....will be thinking of you all!
PS...Simmo ...DH and I have opted not to have either...we didn't before and decided that we can't bear the worry. Could be playing at being ostriches but I can't face the stress.
x

JollyBear · 17/06/2008 15:46

Hello everyone,

Sorry for not posting for a while, I've skimmed the thead to try to catch up. I've been busy vomiting in toilets, kitchen sinks, plastic bags, gutters, buckets and when not vomiting, lying down trying not to vomit! Consequently as DH has been having to clean, the house is a tip!

I watched in disbelief one day as he hoovered round objects on the floor . Also when mentioned how dusty everything was, he said "oh, do we dust?", honestly! Did he think the fairies pop in at night with a feather duster?! Anyway, rant over! I've passed the magical 12 weeks so am hoping it will all be over soon.

I can't belief that some people have a good idea of the sex already, it's amazing! Congrats to all. Is anyone confident enough to start buying pink or blue?!

Abby Your form group sound very sweet

kayz I can't believe anyone would be so judgemental and nasty towards anyone, never mind a pregnant lady.

Odd question I know, but has anyone got any scars on their tummy? I've got some from previous surgery at the top of my tummy and they are getting really itchy. Is it just because they are stretching does anyone know?

kayzisexpecting · 17/06/2008 17:48

Thanks everyone. I had it a lot with DS and normally just ignored them but this time I just couldn't.

Effie It probably is just water. I normally fluctuate(sp) anyway.

Olipop Glad you got a scan and I hope you have a great holiday!!

Simmo I'm glad the scan went well.

Flumpy Thats not really fair on you. Also you seem the sort of person that if it was the other way round you would keep your DC at home.

Jolly They do tend to itch more when they are being stretched.

I hope everyone is ok.

kayzisexpecting · 17/06/2008 17:50

Oh and the lovely lady who owns the cantonese restaurant here where I practicalyy live has said I am having a girl. She was right with DS and with about 14 of my friends so I almost feel confident enough to buy pink clothes!!

Verso · 17/06/2008 19:39

Hello, everyone! I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow - first one at the GP's surgery. I STILL haven't got my notes and it's the first time I've met the midwife because until recently the consultant was doing all my care at the hospital so I am expecting it to be a bit difficult - kind of "oh, but you should have your notes by now" and "oh why haven't we seen you until now?" etc etc. We shall see.

Hope everyone's doing ok. I'm still tired and emotional - and managed to convince myself the other day that my bump isn't growing fast enough so am now expecting not to hear the HB tomorrow. God, I'm a bundle of joy today!!

snorris · 17/06/2008 19:58

Hi! I met with the consultant today. Let's just say I think I may now have "stroppy mare" written on my notes . She is against me going into the midwife-led low-risk unit and wants me to deliver in the consultant unit with continuous monitoring (these are actually in the same building). All this because I've had a previous c-section (and my increased BMI). Apparently it makes no difference that I had a successful HBAC last time . At one point she made it sound like I was privileged to see her and I had been "invited to her clinic".

Fortunately the fab IM I had last time has made me a fantastic offer which means I can afford to have her again . I may be looking at another home birth . (I only wanted to go into hospital because of dd4's history and I'm paranoid something might happen with this baby).

On the plus side I got to hear the heartbeat .

Hope everyone else is well.

rosmerta · 17/06/2008 20:10

snorris, I honestly believe its about time women starting demanding the kind of birth they want! They should realise that yes you have concerns but it doesn't mean you have to be strapped to the bed.

Sorry, this kind of reaction gets me on my high horse

Olipop, hope you have a nice holiday

How's everyone else? I've been feeling much better, ds's sleep seems to have sorted itself out (thank God!) & although I'm still tired, its not as much as I have been,

GettingBiggerBird · 17/06/2008 21:14

I've been in bed with a bug - mortifyingly, my DH has breezed through the same bug and I seem to be the one with the man flu. I guess it's becuase the body's busy doing other things and hasn't got time to help me through it!

He sacked our cleaner the other day so now is doing the cleaning - know what you mean about the dusting, JB.

I'm off for my third scan on Friday, I want to know for sure if there's just one placenta for my twins (it would mean I'm high risk - not a lot of birth choices to be had), I hope all these scans aren't damaging.

Worry, worry, worry.

On the plus side, meeting my doula for the first time tomorrow, which should be nice and positive.

EffiePerine · 18/06/2008 06:37

GBB: good luck fo the scan & Verso with the mw. I haven't seen the mw yet either and don't have my notes, which meant running round at the hosp yesterday trying to get the right form before they'd scan me. All well, only one in there and jumping about and waving at us

Due daye now 30/12, will update the list when I get a chance.

Perfectly reasonable to not look after sick children, Flumpy.

Jen: good news about the measles

Snorris: grr at consultant but yay for an IM

We must be mostly scanned by now? Think I was one of the last. Someone mentioned a London meet-up ages ago - any ideas?
