Oh Kay, that's not good! Although I'm finding it hard to be sympathic as i'm jealous you've been at the beach!!

Now, did someone mentions maltesers???? I WANT some NOW!! I am really REALLY REALLY wanting chocolate at the moment. Not sure if it's a craving or just me being a greedy pig

theyoungvisiter · 09/06/2008 21:27

twins - eek! How exciting/terrifying/amazing (choose whatever you feel, gettingbigger, and delete the rest!)

Don't worry about the weight verso - your size sounds quite moderate to me, I am only 5 foot 2 so I would kill to have your height! Half a kilo looks an awful lot on my stubby little thighs grrr.

Anyway I am sure you will be absolutely fine and I bet your midwife won't bat an eyelid. One of my best friends was classed as morbidly obese with her first baby (I can't remember what that is in BMI - over 35 I think?) but she didn't look at all big, and her midwives didn't seem at all concerned as long as her wee tests and bloods were ok. She even considered a home birth at one point.

Southernbelle, I read somewhere that women who eat chocolate more than 5 times a week are 40% less likely to develop pre-eclampsia than women who eat chocolate once a week or less, so scoff away! You are safeguarding your baby rather than being greedy. Honest.

theyoungvisiter · 09/06/2008 21:33

look it's true, honest. Link to Reuters report about it

The most obvious link was seen in chocolate consumption in the 3rd trimester, but there was a similar but slightly weaker effect in chocolate consumption in the 1st trimester.

hurrah!

southernbelle77 · 09/06/2008 21:50

HURRAH !!!

Although not sure I should really keep scoffing away as then I might not actually be able to move and my bmi will certainly be worse than how bad it is now!!!

See, today I was actually very good! I bought a 'shapers' bar from boots rather than a full fat bar of cadburys polishes halo

kayzisexpecting · 10/06/2008 07:40

Morning,

Its so warm and sunny again today. Its another beach day. Shame I can't go again. I must learn to drive.

Love the chocolate reducing the chance of pre-eclapmsia! Must buy some.

Verso in my PCT the guidelines for BMI are that BMI >40 you're offered a routine GTT & a consultant appointment, remember it is BMI at booking they consider at as well - you're a long way off it being even a potential problem - even then it's an offer not an instruction. All the people I know with GD & PE have been skinny-minnies, raised BMI does not automatically equal problems any more than 'normal' BMI guarantees all will be well.

I have no idea what my weight is doing since I'm not weighing myself & have declined the midwife's offer to do it for me. I think she's realised I'm stroppy

Haven't been sick for two days & nausea is definitely improving yay!

Disenchanted · 10/06/2008 08:32

MOrning

Good luck for the scan Disenchanted

Southernbelle: yours is this week as well, yes?

jenduck · 10/06/2008 09:56

Welcome to GettingBiggerBird & congratulations on twins! How exciting! I was wondering whether I might have twins as there is some history in both our families, and it would explain the rapidly tightening
waistbands - although only actually put on 1.1kg.

Had a bit of a scare yesterday. I saw my 13 month old nephew on Sunday and it seems that he has measles. So I went to my GP to see if I'm immune & they are not sure, as it looks like I only had the initial measles jab as a child & no record of a booster. I'm also unsure as to whether I had measles as a child, although I know I definitely had German measles. So I had to go for a blood test today & they have brought my next antenatal appointment forward to Monday - that is when I find out if I'm immune,so fingers crossed.

Disenchanted good luck for the scan & enjoy!

Off to buy chocolate to reduce pre-eclampsia!

mibbes · 10/06/2008 10:21

GettingBiggerBird - welcome to the thread - how exciting that we have our first twins ! Can't wait to see the scan pic of 2 wee beans !
jenduck I had a similar experience when I had contact with my nieces with chicken pox before I knew i was pregnant - had blood test and all well. Hope your result is ok too - try not to worry too much xx

Question for the first-time mums - are you getting a belly now ? I am almost 15 weeks and definitely feeling the pinch in my work trousers (some of my summer trousers won't do up atall !). Am not sure whether this is quite soon to be a 'bloater' for a first pregnancy ?...

Also a slightly query for all - I was interested to see that one of the questions on the 'gender predictor' test someone posted last week was about the colour of your wee... I am trying to drink as much water as I can stomach but still my wee is a very 'dehydrated' colour - does anyone else have this ? am concerned that am dehydrated which is not good for baby

theyoungvisiter · 10/06/2008 10:30

Hi Mibbes, I am a second timer but can definitely confirm that I have a pretty impressive bulge!

For the wee, I am not an expert but I'd say it's probably just that you are sweating more in this hot weather - and lots of people find they do sweat a lot more in pregnancy too (and after you give birth! Yuk - bucket-loads - but that's another thread...)

I think the main advice is to drink to thirst - make sure you are never gaspingly thirsty, but don't go mad - too much water isn't good either, and it can interupt sleep if you are constantly popping up for the loo. I think you would have to be majorly deyhydrated before it had an effect on the baby - I've certainly never had a midwife flag this up to me anyway.

But just to contradict myself, one thing to watch out for in later pregnancy is that if you are drinking loads and loads and are still thirsty, but your wee is still very dark and scant, then it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, which is rare but serious. It doesn't manifest until later pregancy though - so not something to worry about at the moment.

jenduck · 10/06/2008 11:55

Mibbes, I don't think you are a 'bloater' at all. I was 14 weeks on Sunday, and have been in next size up clothes for a couple of weeks now, although my old clothes did do up, just weren't hugely comfortable. In fact, someone came up to me today & said "Look at you!" whilst patting my tummy! As long as you are eating healthily & exercising as much as you can I can't imagine there would be a problem.

kayzisexpecting · 10/06/2008 12:00

I've just been very sick. Do you think morning sickness is starting at 13 weeks?

I had to ring in sick from work which I hate doing. I have an appointment to see the GP at 16:20 this afternoon. I'm hoping its a 24 hour bug.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 10/06/2008 14:08

kayz: am feeling grotty as well, not sure if bug or because I'm a bit tired. Was in a conference all morning from 10-1 and tottered out at the end in search of FOOD. Am too used to snacking all day to ward off sickness. I was up at 1am last night swigging ginger beer and eating cheese

tasha22 · 10/06/2008 14:32

hi everyone hope you are all well. can someone take me off the list please.

EffiePerine · 10/06/2008 14:45

I'm sorry Tasha . Are you OK?

GettingBiggerBird · 10/06/2008 15:11

Goodness, I didn't realise how many posts happen in 24 hours, very impressive. I must keep up.

Loving all the justification for eating chocolate, though some partypooper told me that refined sugar makes the baby (or babies!) bigger. Bummer...

Thanks for all the good wishes about the twins, it mostly seems to be causing hilarity amongst friends at the moment, really quite worrying.

kayzisexpecting · 10/06/2008 15:32

Its just a bug I think. My mum was ill on Sunday so its most likely that. Going to doc's soon will also ask about headaches.

Tasha, I'm really sorry

GBB, You can blame me if you like. I attract twins. I have 3 friends expecting twins, 2 friends that have had twins in the last 3 months and a friend with 2 sets of twins.

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 10/06/2008 15:43

Mibbes - I'm 15 weeks - I can get my usual jeans on but they make my belly ache and they are v tight around the thighs. I have more or less abandoned them. I have a small sort of bump shape below my belly button, which feels uncomfy if I touch my toes, but a strange and annoying bulge in the area between my belly button and boobs which is much bigger. What's THAT all about? I don't want to put on too much weight too soon, but I've put on over 3kg, which I think is worrying. Mind you, my boobs have gone up from a 34c to a 34dd. I'm not impressed. They'll be like prize marrows by the end of Nov.

GettingBiggerBird · 10/06/2008 15:46

LadyThompson - Better than prize watermelons - mine are 34G ever since my DD (now 3). I put on 3kg of water each time I get pregnant, straight away, which then seems to turn to fat later on. Lush...

EffiePerine · 10/06/2008 15:49
kayzisexpecting · 10/06/2008 15:55

LOL, I'll try and keep them to myself Effie!!

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 10/06/2008 15:56

34G, GBB! Oh God, and I thought DD's at 15 weeks were a nuisance. But then I'm only 5'6". I don't mind if they stay bigger - I just don't want to be left with two empty paper bags when it's all over. Congrats about the twins though!
