We completely filled the last thread so I have started a new one!!

I'll have to go get the list.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hattyyellow · 09/06/2008 11:31

Ooh and I'm 12 weeks today - woohoo!!!

EffiePerine · 09/06/2008 11:36

Am v impressed that you bfed twins Hatty. The thing about bfing is that it is so so easy and useful later on, but really hard work in teh early weeks when you could do with it being easy and straighforward. Bit of a design flaw there .

chutneymary · 09/06/2008 12:58

I was BF my 15 month old but she seems to have lost interest. I didn't really want to stop yet but I suppose she did so the choice has gone! I think it is supposed to improve after the first trimester though, so hang on in there. If you get to the third trimester, your child might wean anyway, as your milk is colostrum for the new baby (or turning to it, anyway) and it tastes very different. Colostrum is a natural laxative to clear meconium from the baby's system, so might have an explosive effect on your child which you might not want!

I had a look at the tandem thread too, very, er, odd approach by the OP. My GP said BF during pg fine and won't deprive either child of what they need.

Hatty, I'm not very hairy, but am very agressive / tearful in equal measure. DH never knows what he is coming home to!

Kayz, so sorry about your headaches. I find drinking plenty helps, as does getting enough sleep. There is also that Forehead roll on stuff which I've not tried but people say is good.

Disenchanted, I am sorry you are feeling low. Do you know what is making you feel so bad or is everything just too much? Hope you feel better soon.

Youngvisiter, I don't mind telling you what went wrong with my second delivery, but can't now as am under a deadline and it takes ages to write! I'll fill you in asap.

Good luck for the approaching scans. Am working at home today and am actually having to do lots of work! I was hoping for a quick nap but no chance. See you later.

theyoungvisiter · 09/06/2008 13:48

Chutneymary - no pressure honestly!! I'm sorry, I don't know why I am being so nosey but I seem to have a compulsion at the moment to ask everyone about their labours as if to try and work through my own experience. (Which was not disastrous or traumatic particularly, but I think forcing a screaming baby out of your vagina does take some coming to terms with, even when the experience is broadly positive!)

Effie and hatty thanks for the moral support! I think I might have to start fibbing to the midwife, I am just a terrible liar... I did get sucked into that tandemfeeding thread as you may have noticed - I was still crossly typing at 11.15pm when I realised that this was a bonkers thing to do and I needed to STEP AWAY from the keyboard pronto...

Olipop · 09/06/2008 14:03

Hello, just been catching up ....sickness seems to be improving a bit (which of course sends you into a bit of a panic!). I've got my booking in appointment on Thursday and am I right in thinking that they can do a heartbeat test? I'd feel so relieved to hear it.
Sorry about everyone who is having rough times....some of your previous midwives sound like right old bags! We had such massive teams I never saw the same one more than once and I didn't even know the name of the one I delivered with until afterwards..or what she looked like.....hypnobirthing is a wonderful thing!!!
Rosmerta ...you should have called.....Olipop jnr could have worn out your DS no problems...it must exhaust him all the running away he has to do!

mibbes · 09/06/2008 14:29

Hi ladies ! Just back from a long weekend in Paris, all relaxed and very well fed
artichokes sorry you had a worrying result and I can understand why you are so tempted to go for private cardio scan - if you can afford it you may find you are able to relax properly afterwards.
abby grrr at evil woman - she clearly knew exactly what she was saying - maybe she is you are PG. I hate people like that, there is no excuse for basically telling someone they are fat - what a witch !
disenchanted all the best with your scan tomorrow and I hope it cheers you up.
hatty sounds like you've got a little boy in there ! Isn't quicker hair growth a sign of a boy ? and if your mood is the opposite to last time... I am also getting a fair bit of white creamy CM - it is supposed to be completely normal. I haven't noticed hair growth diference but am definitely a bit more tetchy than usual - just had to hang up on my DP as he was annoying me so much !
No news from me really - went to frist aerobics class since PG and all went well . Like you hatty I am starting to think I need to hang fire on the crisps, sweets and general rubbish and make more of an effort to eat healthily....zzzz boring !

Verso · 09/06/2008 14:53

Just a quick 'me' post... am working from home today so loads of time to think about things (never good!) and am really about my weight/size. I was a size 16 before I had DD - went up to an 18 - then got back to a 14/16 without really trying within about 6 months after DD's birth. Then two miscarriages last year somehow sent me back up to a size 18. Anyway - really worried about doing this pg and being hassled for my size throughout. Anyone have any experience? (Btw the M/W at my booking didn't bat an eyelid apart from flagging up I might be at risk of gestational diabetes - but I'm feeling v today about being this big before putting on any pg weight!) (I'm 5'8" by the way.)

chutneymary · 09/06/2008 15:02

Verso, just a quick one as I am also working from home and not concentrating hard.

From what i've read (and from my previous pgs) I think it is unlikely that your size would cause problems. I understand that your risk of GD is only increased if you are seriously overweight (BMI 30+) and you will be weeing copiously in pots and sent off for a GTT at the slightest whiff of a problem. As you are 5' 8", being a 16/18 isn't even that large, as you have a larger frame than a 5' 2" person for example.

Can you work out your BMI or find it in your notes? My BMI was 26 last time at booking (so overweight) and no one said anything. I really don't think you'll be hassled, as you are unlikely to be weighed during pg as it doesn't correlate with the baby's size. It's only if you badly retain water at the end that people think " oh my god" as that could be a sign of raised BP and pre eclampsia.

So don't worry - you'll be grand

Now I MUST do some work or I'll never be able to go on holiday....

GettingBiggerBird · 09/06/2008 15:27

Hi everyone
I'm finally taking the plunge and joining you all - a bit silly as I've nearly made it to the 12-week scan (on Thursday) but just couldn't wait any longer! I'm really nervous - had a failed pg back in February so very quickly pg again, then bleeding at 6 weeks so went for an early scan. I was on my own as we couldn't get anyone to look after DD (3), and dreading it - imagine my surprise when not one but 2 little fluttering tadpoles and their sacs popped up on screen (after some intense searching, one was very shy!). The air was blue.
These little blighters are due 25 December, just a week after DD's birthday so December could be a busy month for our house. I've been hideously grouchy but only a bit nauseous, and I had to put maternity clothes on at about 8 weeks. They'd better still be 2 in there or I've got no excuse! Any other twins expected on this thread?

hattyyellow · 09/06/2008 15:41

GettingBigger welcome and congratulations! I'm expecting just the one this time, but had twins last time around - I well remember that scan, it's quite a shock isn't it!

Anything I can help with please do let me know. My twins are nearly 3 so similar age to your DD.

hattyyellow · 09/06/2008 15:44

Mibbes your holiday sounds lovely...I am trying to be very healthy today and had big salad and hummus lunch. Trying not to look at the chocolate buttons we're using as bribes for potty training at the moment...

Youngvisiter I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that midwives can be as bonkers and unhelpful as health visitors...I'm impressed at you persevering with the tandem thread, I found just the post title so unneccessarily provocative I had to hide it!

EffiePerine · 09/06/2008 16:15

GBB: congratulations Hope the scan goes well on Thursday.

Just caught sight of myself sideways in mirror at work . No way are people going to be surprised at my news...

Verso: I don't think an 18 at 5'8 is that big. If your mw isn't worried that's a good sign, as they seem to be more concerned about weight than not.

hattyyellow · 09/06/2008 16:23

Verso I was worried I might have diabetes last time around, not due to weight but because I was so so thirsty all the time. They made a note on my file and tested me regulary just to check - so it sounds as if your midwife has it in hand..

If you lost the weight last time around after the birth, I'm sure the same will happen this time..

I put on a stone and half during pregnancy last time and another stone and a half during breastfeeding.

I feel bad saying it but I find it hard seeing the weight going back on and my body getting rounder after struggling to lose it last time around. I'd really only just got rid of the huge bump shape from my twins a few months before I got pregnant again!

I am very glad to be pregnant I just wish your body could somehow ping back to normal afterwards without the drooping and soft bits!

GettingBiggerBird · 09/06/2008 16:44

Hatty - thanks, will be pestering you for all sorts of tips if everything goes well! And I know what you mean about the changing body shape, very depressing, and just when my entire office has decided to go on a fitness campaign and started losing loads of weight. I put on 3 stone last time so goodness knows what it will be this time...

snorris · 09/06/2008 16:44

Hello to GBB-I also have twins, have you seen the multiple mums threads? I wish I'd had Mumsnet years ago when I was pg with the twins .

Verso-I had my booking in appointment with my community midwife today and we were discussing my BMI (well over 30 ). She said one reason it can make you 'high risk' is that apparently it can be difficult to gauge the size of the baby. As a compromise they may scan me at 36 weeks to get a better idea of the baby's size.

snorris · 09/06/2008 16:46

If it's any consolation I was 3 stone lighter after having the twins . Put it all back on though .

hattyyellow · 09/06/2008 16:49

Gettingbigger I also found www.twinsclub.co.uk really useful when I was pregnant with my twins.

It has a whole section for pregnant twin mums plus a big advice and support section. I still search the archives for various twin-related queries and there is so much info there - they are a friendly bunch as well.

Snorris how on earth did you manage to be 3 stone lighter after your twins??

Verso · 09/06/2008 16:52

Thanks, everyone. You've made me feel a lot better. My BMI was on the cusp of 30... So glad to know I'm not the only one on here who isn't a complete twiglet. The main thing is that the baby is ok, I know - but having got safely out of the first trimester it seems I need to find other things to stress about! Thanks again, everyone. You're very supportive!

snorris · 09/06/2008 16:55

As they grew I shrank!! Very drastic way to diet though. I lost 2 stone giving birth-they weighed 6lb 8oz & 7lb 3oz so that was nearly a stone, plus fluid, placentas etc. I confess I was ill for 2 weeks afterwards. I didn't eat properly and was b/feeding I think that's where the other stone went. Like I said though it's crept back on over the years.

southernbelle77 · 09/06/2008 18:20

Oh Verso you really needn't worry! I'm short and fat!! my bmi is over 30 but the midwife didn't seem bothered and just said to have the blood test at 28 weeks but apart from that nothing to worry about!

I was big when I had dd as well and it wasn't an issue at all so hopefully it won't be this time!

Not sure how i've not put on copious amounts of weight already this pregnancy as I'm eating loads (of bad food )and I've stayed the same even though my clothes are getting tighter!

I WILL lose weight after this baby though! I will keep saying that as a mantra I think to make sure I don't forget it

majormoo · 09/06/2008 19:21

the youngvisitor-I stopped breastfeeding at 9 months so no idea about breastfeeding in pregnancy, however I would be REALLY surprised if my midwife was not supportive if I mentioned I was still breastfeeding. I cannot see how making you feel guilty and that you have to give up is helpful at all.

Hattyyellow I think the discharge is perfectly normal. I get more if I need a poo!!! Hair definitely grows quicker too. And yes, I am definitely more ratty with DH. As I have mentioned before, I practically have to shout from the rooftops if I want him to remember I am pregnant

Disenchanted hope it goes well with your scan tomorrow. I also have felt much better since I had the scan so really hope you feel the same.

Olipop · 09/06/2008 19:58

Evening everyone.....WAHOOO....GBB I've been waiting for someone to have twins!
Gosh it's been hot today...we moved into a new house in September and I am only now discovering that having lots of glass is great until it turns your living room into a bleedin' greenhouse. It's only just starting to cool down now. I've got the doors open but it means I can smell everyones BBQ's and it's making me feel sick!
I'm starting to feel a bit podge now. It seems that last week I had a nice little bump but it seems to have splurged abit now and I'm just lookng chubby!

majormoo · 09/06/2008 20:28

welcome GettingBigger-somehow earlier I managed to not read the first page so am catching up now. How exciting having twins. I had an early miscarriage in Feb too so it was surprising to get pregnant so quickly afterwards.

Verso, if the midwife isn't worried I really don't think you need to be. I put on about 3kgs in the first trimester which is far more than I expected to and much more than my other pregnancies. I was shocked when they weighed me at my 13 week scan. However, I am confidently telling myself it will all slip away after I have the baby!

JamInMyWellies · 09/06/2008 20:34

ooh twins thats great.

Disenchanted am so sorry you are feeling down I did see your thread last night I meant to post but fell asleep . Do talk to us it is difficult for you at the mo but you do have the most gorgeous boys so cheeky looking. Remember mumsnet is a great place for offloading.

Well done to tthose of you tandem feeding, I really struggled with BF last time round DS had a tongue tie I managed until 6mth and then gave up was also perm worried about supply. I am determined to to be more succesful this time round.

Now did someone mention weekends in Paris I guess my weekend of chasing the dog and DS round the garden with the highlight of getting my bits waxed doesnt really match up.

Talking of weight I gained nearly 3stone last time round. but lost it all really quickly thank god for BF. Have been doing nothing but eating rubbish for weeks now am too scared to go on the scales. Oh and grumpiness is my forte at the mo DP is off work with a sinus and throat infection and he has had zero sympathy and is driving me insane with the dying swan inpression.

Right off to eat my body weight in maltesers.

kayzisexpecting · 09/06/2008 21:06

GBB Woohoo TWINS! I too have been waiting for twins.

I have been to the beach today and have awful sunburn. It is killing me and I am covered in sudocrem. I'm going to go and get some aftersun.
