how to do perineal massage for those who are considering it. It's not as icky as it sounds. I never got DH to help, just did it myself sitting on the edge of the loo with some olive oil.

Vix100 · 07/06/2008 18:17

Hello - can I come and join in? I am due 9th July and only today joined mumsnet - seem to belong to everything else and just stumbled across this site while looking for netmums! I live in Epsom, Surrey and am 38 and a first time mum. Look forward to chatting with you all!

Mummywannabe · 07/06/2008 18:49

Welcome Vix!

gillythekid · 07/06/2008 19:44

Welcome to MN Vix!!
Libra We started perineal massage last weekend, those I know who did it religiously for 5 mins every day had no tearing at all so it's surely worth it! Some women find it quite sexually arousing, I however, find it uncomfortably sore and can just about stand the 5 minutes!! Hope one of these days it gives me the urge to jump on DH, we live in hope.

RUMPEL · 07/06/2008 20:26

Evening all,

Welcome VIX

RE ARNICA - you cannot take 5 x pillules to get 200c - it doesn't work like that. The 30c should be fine. You take 2 pillules - letting them dissolve in your mouth- 3 x daily - until your brusing and sore bits go away(or 2 every hour for 6 doses immediatley after labour.) You can also buy arnica cream and oil if your downstairs is really bad - eg episiotomy. Best to avoid coffee and mint when taking them to get the optimum effect TBH though I still use minty toothpaste. Arnica is good for shock and bruising. The 200c come in the labour birth kit along with a whole load of other ones for satges of labour, increasing milk supply, mastitis etc:

www.helios.co.uk/kits.html

You can buy 200c arnica form here too. I got my birth kit off of ebay.

Cilc - I used arnica 30c when I broke my ribs - you can get remedies to help bones knit together more quickly too.

I am so uncomfortable now - baby dropped down today - he/she was truning all over the place this am then I felt the head move down and the bum rotate around to the middle of my belly - been waddling all day! I've started feeling nauseous in the morning again now too Dh took me and DD out today as it is my b day in 2 weeks - I have spotted some shoes I adore so wanted to get them:

www.schuhstore.co.uk/item_main_frameset.asp?s_ref=110030

in red and :

www.schuhstore.co.uk/brand_main_frameset.asp?perameters=brand_page&brand_letter=R

in blue - I am going to get the pink ones at some point later

Bit of a squeeze at the mo' as I am starting to 'sausage' (puff) up now but they will fit post baby

Also got DDs feet measured - she has big wide feet like her Mammy a 5.5g and she is only 20 months just turned!

RE BIRTH PROGRAMMES - I sed to watch all of them when pg with DD but cannot bring myself to even look at them now - they make me cry and fill me with dread!

Incodently me and DH 'did the deed' on Wednesday night - as my parent's were here we were actually sharing the bed for a change and we got a little fruity!! Was quite strange as it has been so long and all my bits are swollen now.

RE PERINEAL MASSAGE - I managed it myself last time with calendula oil and propped on the edge of the bed with a towel under me. TBH I still tore, but I don't know how badly and so far this time I haven't bothered - might do it yet though. haven't bothered with the raspberry tea this time either - or the bikini wax have turned into slummy Mummy

Hope all you ladies and HUBARB's Mrs are fine - sending hugs to wee Charlie tooxxxx

RUMPEL · 07/06/2008 20:29

Opps - try again:

sweetkitty · 07/06/2008 20:32

Evening all hope you all have had a lovely day sun was shining here, DP spent the day in the pool with the DDs, they all had a great time I just basked in the sun.

Anyone else feel totally fed up and a bit down? I do I'm sick of every step I take hurting, the stairs feeling like Everest and just being so damn uncomfy all the time. I think I have had enough of being pregnant now.

Perineal massage - tried it first time around (although didn't do it every day) DD1 came out too fast with her hand by her face which tore me badly so don't think it would have helped in that situation. I'm hoping DD2's big head last time stretched everything so this time baby will slide out.

Vix100 - hello and welcome to mumsnet be warned though it is very addictive, I found it when pregnant with my first and cannot leave now, am totally addicted!

pigley - on the new bed I agree new bed linen is the way to go (I decided on soft teal eventually) happy sleeping just watch your waters don't break on it now

minnie - old bag I would have shouted something at her, I find elderly women the worst when I'm out with children, I think they forget what it's like and you get a lot of tutting and "children were better behaved in my day etc" The looks you get for daring to enter M&S with a double buggy hope your DD is better poor wee thing.

minkus - I know what you meand about being excited I can't wait to meet this LO and also not be pregnant anymore, sorry am so miserable tonight, I'm wondering whether to get a new moses basket mattress, DD1 and 2 hardly spent anytime in it and we are getting a new cot mattress anyway.

Right I THINK I may settle on a P&T after all. I think theres a shop up town that sells them so I am going to take DD2 up there and plonk her in one see if it fits (pretending to buy it of course).

Rumpel - has yours arrived yet?

sweetkitty · 07/06/2008 20:36

Sorry Rumple x posts with you am so with you on the slummy mummy I spill thing son my bump all the time and can't be bothered to change, comfort over everything these days.

Mummywannabe · 07/06/2008 20:48

Had a bad day today. Have had period type cramps on and off all day. had a bath but still kept coming. Took 2 paracetamol 30 mins ago and they have gone (mostly), guessed this is what midwife would have said to do anyway (seems to be standard reply). Did i do right thing, maybe if they come back i should call ward?

sweetkitty · 07/06/2008 20:50

I think you have done the right thing, just wait and see, could be a bad case of BHs, if it is the real thing you will know soon enough. Try to rest and take it easy.

Mummywannabe · 07/06/2008 20:55

Thanks sweetkitty. I feel a lot better than earlier. Its just hard to know what to do for the best isn't it. DH is useless (bless him) his standard reply is 'I don't know'! Although in fairness neither do I!

RUMPEL · 07/06/2008 20:57

SWEETKITTY - me too - I am miserable and sooo looking forward to not being pg anymore. My DH suggested he video me so that when I may feel broody in the future he can show me the footage .

No but I did finally, after about 20 attempts, manage to get through on the phone today - so it is arriving on the 13 June

I have got a HUGE blue vein on the right hand of my tum now - although I am tranclucently pale - no strtch marks (yet) though

All these lovely lithe poeple showing off their gorgeous bods with this nice weather is makin me I am such a lardy arse!!

MUMMYWANNA - just sit tight - you'll know if you are in labour for sure Maybe you've been overdoing it?

PIGLEY - What size is your new bed? I buy linen in the sales then dye it whatever colour I want. My bed is superkingsize _ I soooooo LOVE LOVE LOVE my bed!! Waited years for a house big enough to get a giant bed - my duvet sets are tie-dyed purple and maroon My bedroom is like a prozzies boudoir

Night allxx

pigleychez · 07/06/2008 20:59

Evening all.

Welcome to Vix Hope your pregnancy has been ok so far.

Well the new bedding is on and looks fab!

Been busy this afternoon in the garden and planted some new shrubs and flowers.

Just made choc brownies, they are in the oven as we speak. They smell yummy but nearly had a heart attack when measuring the ingredients out. The amount of choc, butter and sugar was amazing! Could feel my arteries cloging as i was stirring!
Sure they will taste yummy though

Off to Brighton tomorow (about 20 mins away from us) to a baby show which should be fun. Then if the weathers good a stroll down the pier.

pigleychez · 07/06/2008 21:05

Rumpel- Its a normal Double size, think kingsize would be pushing it in our bedroom.

The new bed is a large real leather ( choc brown) sleigh bed. It feels lovely and luxrious!

The memory foam mattress is super comfy too.

sweetkitty · 07/06/2008 21:05

Rumpel - glad it's not just me I was so desperate to get pregnant as well and I feel so guilty but I'm so miserable I feel so guilty I cannot do anything with the DDs, good news about the pram though

sweetkitty · 07/06/2008 21:07

Ours is superkingsize too but still feels too small with us and the DDs in it. I agree memory foam rocks.

RUMPEL · 07/06/2008 21:12

Here is my bed:

www.squeakfree.co.uk/Beds/amb.htm

Now I really must go to it!!! and stop chatting.

SWEETKITTY - i know how you feel, I do really appreciate that we are lucky to be able to conceive so easily and to actually have children - so many people can't - but it is only human nature to feel sorry for ourselves when things are rough. I would love more kids but I just wouldn't be able to cope being pg with 2 littlies as I am so unwell during pg and it is not fair on them or Dh or me - need to get a life back again and make the most of what we do have

sweetkitty · 07/06/2008 21:17

Rumpel - that is one beautiful bed not that I could ever have something like that, in our house it would have scratching post written all over it.

I must admit I knew pregnancy would be a lot harder this time with 2 LOs but never expected it to be this bad. I think the PGP/SPD/SI pain has been a lot worse and I just generally feel exhausted all the time (iron levels are fine). After losing a baby last year I am so happy to be having another so soon but it's really taken it's toll on me. I'm also starting to get the heebies about dealing with 2 and a newborn although I know it will be better than 2 and pregnant.

Right am off to bed to watch some TV DP watching some scary horror flick.

ButterflyMcQueen · 07/06/2008 21:20

hello all
sorry you are all suffering

i am finding this pg oddly pleasurable! I love the bump - its still bearable and am loving having dps baby in me! sounds ott i know but true

dp says it is because its the last one but i thought it was last pg and was a misery

i wonder if it is because i dont have spd but dp says its because i am more at ease with self ( had a dreadful couple of years dealing with huge ishoos from past)

dont know but its good, SPD ruined my pg last time and as yet only get bits and bobs but nothing bad, makes such a difference

less of me! Pigley I would get a decent mattress protector - i wont get on my bed ( couple of years old but still feels new!) without one atm - need one for the milk fuelled nights to come!

REALLY nesting here - tweaking and decorating the last one of our numerous bedrooms today and then took younger dcs to Harrogate park and paddling pool

we drank starbucks whilst they played in the sunshine idyllic!

wish we ever bothered to choose names - dp is too silly and jokey and only says giddy names
last time ds was not named till 8.5 weeks ..grr dont want that to happen again

Sweetkitty my phil and teds is in my bedroom i am loving it!

new PIC on profile of 2 dcs in big pram!!!!

isaidno · 07/06/2008 22:41

That is a big pram!! I would love one of those!

My big news today is....I finished knitting a cardigan. Will post a photo when I've bought a button for it! I knitted size 6 - 12 mths becuase it is the first garment I have ever attempted and I wanted to be sure I had time to finish it before the baby outgrew it!

I feel happy during this pg now all that bother over my placenta is finished. I don't want to wait too much longer though - 2 weeks max .....

pigleychez · 07/06/2008 22:49

Butterfly- My nan used to have a big slver cross one like that ( my dads pram!)
I have lots of happy memories of being a little girl pushing my dolls around in it..The pram was much bigger than me and i had to stand on a stall to reach to get my dolls in.
When staying overnight i would tuck my dolls in, say good night and pull the two hoods up either side before getting myself into bed

Isaidno- My knitting (simple square to make a blanket) is taking forever. Have 4 more squares to do before baby comes so best get a wriggle on. Probably is I keep finding other things that need doing more.

ButterflyMcQueen · 07/06/2008 23:16

ooh pigley - two hoods !! That is my dream - I told dp i wished it were twins so that i could buy the two hood variety

I am a 40 year old girl woman and i just LOVE prams

what a sad indictment of a life

Minkus · 08/06/2008 07:59

Morning all

Sweetkitty and Rumpel I know what you mean about feeling abit guilty over not enjoying pregnancy, I'm feeling that too. This is also our last as I can't deal with horrid hyperemesis another time and have really suffered with feeling quite low this time round. Would have loved more but am glad in a way that now I feel "finished" as otherwise I would always have been longing for another (dh def done with two!)

of your beds Pigley and Rumpel they sound luvverly!

Mummywannabe I overdid things earlier in the week also and had period pains too but they settled down after a day or so, hope it settles for you too.

Off to watch dh's best friend doing motocross today, ds v excited about seeing all the motorbikes [hmmm] (I hate the bloody things, death traps). I have said I'll only come if dh buys me a camping chair as can't cope with the idea of 6 hours standing around in an uneven bumpy field! Such a diva. Great weather here, have a lovely day all xxx

EEC · 08/06/2008 10:37

Morning ladies (and hubarb). Beautiful day here. Feeling guilty as too tired and uncomfy to do anything with it. DH in France so just me and DCs. I will try and sum up the energy to take them out for a picnic later.

Mummywannabe and Minkus. I too had painful BH and pains last night. Definitely due to overdoing it, but you can't help thinking 'is this it?' anyway. Specially as DH away! I've got 5 weeks to go. I really don't think I can last that long!

Funky shoes RUMPLE. I can't even imagine ever wearing attractive clothes and heals ever again. (as she sits there in a T shirt with breakfast down the front!)

On a positive note, I think the baby may finally have turned last night. Not sure, but I hope so. MW appontment on Wed, so can find out then.

EEC · 08/06/2008 10:38

Sorry. Welcome Vix.
