Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
minipinkscottish · 06/06/2008 15:52

Hi all - you have all been chatty today

Had growth scan this morning and growth has not slowed any. Baby is now 39 week size, I am 34 weeks. There is also an increased amount of fluid around her. I have to go to hosp every Monday and Thursday for monitoring and checks and have another scan on 20th June - they said they would probably want to induce shortly after that if I hadn't already delivered. I gor lecture on what to do if waters broke and cord came down first (seemingly can happen due to increades fluid)...just made me panic a bit

So have been shopping and bought everything else that I needed and some lovely extra bits and am going to pack bag tonight xx

pigleychez · 06/06/2008 15:56

For those of you planning Homebirths:

On sky channel 252 - Discovery Home and Health
They have a programme called Home Birth Diaries that follows women having home births.
Its quite interesting.

Just thought it might be of interest to some of you.

I sky plus them and other baby programmes as they seem to be on at odd times. Handy to watch when day time tv is at its worst!

Libra1975 · 06/06/2008 15:57

Cor you might get a baby before I even get on ML , that's deffo not fair! don't panic I am sure everything will be fine for you and at least you have got the impetus to actually get round to packing your bag

isaidno · 06/06/2008 16:16

pigley - I have mumsnet, 2 children and a husband - I do not have time to watch sky plussed programmes!

disneystar · 06/06/2008 16:20

ok thanks for telling me that about the tens machine i must admit i never read it just saw it whilst in the chemist
been debating wheter to call mw for advise all day has anyone else had severe pain in one leg mines the left from the groin all over top of the leg
it gets so bad when i walk im in tears when i reach the car i have never had this
minipink i have increased waters too why would they want to induce early though just wondering here is it because baby is big

Libra1975 · 06/06/2008 16:23

Don't debate, phone them thats what they are there for.

Kaz1967 · 06/06/2008 16:25

minipinkscottish have you been tested for gestational diabetes? extra fluid and growth can be a sign. It's good to be aware of but cord prolapse is rare even with increased fluid only heard of on in all the years I worked in NICU and our Docs were always called to that sort of section because it effects blood supply to the baby.

Kaz1967 · 06/06/2008 16:29

disneystar totally with Libra1975 on this ring midwife NOW sounds like something is pressing on a nerve best to get it checked out and maybe an urgent physio referral. Tens are fine I still use mine from time to time but you need to know what is causing this it may be something that can be improved.

minipinkscottish · 06/06/2008 16:47

I have been tested for gentational diabetes and it's negative. They want to induce because it is big baby and I have very strained uterus - I am only 5 foot tall and also because if I go into labour at home I am 40-45mins from hospital and last baby was only 50 mins start to finish xx

sweetkitty · 06/06/2008 16:54

MW was going through all the things that can go wrong with me yesterday (really cheers you up) anyway cord prolapse was one, in all her years of being a MW she only had one case, so it's very rare and something they just have to make you aware of.

disneystar - hope you have spoken to a MW

minipink - about the growth thing but at least you are getting good monitoring, sounds like you could be meeting that little girl sooner rather than later

pigley - I have probably seen every episode of Home Birth Diaries twice over they repeat them a lot. DP asked if he could tape this birth, guess where I told him to shove the camera?

Whats wrong with Emma Ward? On initials I have a ASR and a TER and am about to have a BGR.

Right better go and pcik up DP from train station I suppose [can't be bothered emoticon]

Umlellala · 06/06/2008 17:05

Oh gosh, disneystar def agree you should ring midwife to see what they suggest...

And minipink - how exciting that you could be meeting your baby so soon. My friend delivered at home in 2 hrs - hubby only just got home in time to deliver baby with instructions over phone!!! 50mins though - wow.

mcchesers · 06/06/2008 17:18

Libra- The Yeovil office are the only ones handling MA paperwork anymore and they are taking 5-10 weeks to process cases! If you really wanted to get copies of your payslips, etc..I would wait for Jobcentre to open and let them forward it on.

I was actually dressed and out the door for 11am today. Went to visit a girlfriend with a brand new baby. Aww he was so cute only 2 weeks old. Funny how they look like drunken old men trying to focus their tiny eyes on you.

ok wiped out..gonna try and sneak in a wee nap before DH arrives.

Minkus · 06/06/2008 17:25

Hi everyone

Rumpel- thanks for advice about arnica. Like heffa said, can you just take 5 of the 30c tablets to get you close to the 200c's recommended? And when are you supposed to start taking them?

Music for labour- if I get time to listen to anything I'm thinking the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where art thou?" A really quirky collection of odd music that I just LOVE, v atmospheric.

Re: breastfeeding- I found the first weeks v uncomfortable too even if all the "professional" opinion says you're doing it wrong if it hurts. Made my toes curl until the let down of milk happened / ds got into a rhythym at each feed. But after a few weeks everything just clicked thankfully and I found the whole bf thing absolutely wonderful. Although little blighter decided that he was not going to ever touch a bottle before the age of 1 ish so I couldn't even express breast milk for dh to give him let alone formula. Grrrr! Will be persevering with bottles this time though as I found being ds's only source of milk for a year quite hard.

Have just taken delivery of a monster Boots order including some MAM bottles and emergency cartons of formula just in case, I hope to never have to use them but if at 3am baby really needs milk and boobs aren't an option for some reason I want my first choice of formula waiting rather than whatever the all night garage has in stock.

Order also included the new mattress for ds's old moses basket, the change mat and a ton of wipes. Plus lots of other baby bits. I am soooo excited about this baby now, just can't wait to find out whether it's a boy or girl!

Thought my waters had broken on the loo last night but then realised that as my bits were quite cold (been sitting outside at friends for bbq) and the wee was obv warm thats why it felt "odd"! Loads of painful bh's too, plus sharp "electricky" pains. And overdid it today, walked round town for 3 hrs with ds in buggy, and now have period pains so you never know it could be on the way - wishful thinking more like!

DS not napped today so he's fractious, I'm shattered and sorry to say he's been plonked in front of a Peppa Pig dvd so I can mnet chill for a bit. zzzzzzzzzzz

Libra1975 · 06/06/2008 18:42

Mccheesers thanks for that but you are 3 hours too late I sent it to Totton BDC after getting that address twice from 2 different people. The problem with the jobcentre is that its not open at the weekends! I am in the lucky position that I can wait that long as long as they backdate the pay as I said I am more worried about payslips and mat1b form going missing - I was told that I had to send originals anyway it went signed delivery so all i can do now is cross fingers!

Hope you got your nap.

pigleychez · 06/06/2008 20:59

phew! what an evening!

Minutes after DH came home the bed shop rang to say the bed was in and they could deliver it now if we wanted. I wasnt expecting that at all! Anyway we agreed and the bed and mattress arrived.

Darted off to do the weekly shop and got the ingredients for the brownies. Have to wait till tomororow to make them now. Grabbed a Mc Donalds for dinner just to save time and hassle. Strawberry Milksake- Yummy!

Just finished putting the bed together and it looks fab! The memory foam mattress is very comfy and im looking forward to a good nights sleep. Lets hope i dont wake at silly o'clock again! Looking forward to bedtime now

JODIEhavingababy · 06/06/2008 21:08

Oh Pigley I'm so

isaidno · 07/06/2008 07:55

Is no one up yet? It's a lovely day here in Redditch - a trip to the park and some duck feeding is in order I think.

Hope you had a good kip pigley!

Libra1975 · 07/06/2008 09:19

I'm up, despite the fact we are neither Irish or from New Zealand and we have Sky+ DH wanted to get up and watch the rugby. It is indeed a lovely day and I am off to Farnham later for some shopping so compiling a "still haven't got for the baby" list. Nothing very very urgent but a moses basket mattress would be good.

I love feeding the ducks - with or without children!!

Pigley - how was the bed!!

I have just been told off for using too many exclamations marks at the end of a sentence.

pigleychez · 07/06/2008 09:43

Morning all,

Smiley faces here today

only just woke up. Did wake about 5.30 but went sraight back off again so looks like the new bed is a sucess! Happy bunny!

The mattress is lovely and comfy, you just seem to sink into it. Think some new bedding is in order now to finish it off properly.

Cant wait for the furniture to arrive now

Lovely and sunny here at the mo too. Get some washing out soon, then not much else planned so see what takes our fancy.

Libra1975 · 07/06/2008 10:01

ok I know this is a very TMI question but have any of you or are any of you thinking about perineal massage, and if you have used it before do you think it made any difference during labour?

Pigley - oh bed sounds great, and I agree that new linen is required

Mummywannabe · 07/06/2008 10:05

Morning all

Glad you had a bette night pigley.

Re: Arnica - can someone give me the idiots guide to what i should buy, what i'm supposed to do with it etc etc?

On the subject of overdoing things, shopped for 4 hours on thursday and was i pain yesterday (lower tummy/bump), still there today, should i be worried?

Right really must go and do some course work.

isaidno · 07/06/2008 12:15

libra - I did the perineal massage during my first pregnancy and only got a tiny tear requiring no stitches. Apparently no need to bother for subsequent births because fanjo already stretched!

pigleychez · 07/06/2008 12:28

Finally a sucesful shopping trip.

Primark eventually have restocked the nightwear so bought another button front nighty and 2packs of cheap knickers. Hospital bag is almost done now.

Also bought some new bedding for my yummy new bed.
and also some fitted sheets for babys cot.

DH bought a new game for his ps3 so hes happy too... currently making me lunch, bless him.

Plan an afternoon in the garden now as its so sunny here.

MINNIE1 · 07/06/2008 14:53

Pigley
Your new bed sounds fab, could do with one myself.. Will have to wait till we move into our new house which is a year and a half away!!

Me on all fours DD crying.. I got such a shock that i got up and moved!! She could have walked around the rack to get out but no she had to come my way!! I have all the respect for old people but OMG i was sooooo

Trying to catch up here, miss a day and it takes ages...

Heffagooday · 07/06/2008 15:03

Hi all! Hope you're all having a nice weekend. We're still trying to do the last bits to sort out the house. I actually slept through for about 7 hours last night so I'm feeling a bit high on the energy! I think it might be the iron helping

Let me know what the brownies are like Pigley! I bought the ingredients last night and was going to make them sometime over the weekend/Monday. I'm worried that if I make them while DH is around he'll steal them to take to work.

Libra - I've been thinking of perineal massage but not entirely sure what it involves. DH has offered to help but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
