Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Morning all yes just thought I would make you all laugh with tales of my spraying boobs, it's amazing how far they could squirt, maybe I could compete at Olympic level (I think they have missed an opportunity there although some of the spectators would probably be questionable).

Shall I make you sick? The day after DD2 was born we had to take her to the hospital for her check up and I went there in a pair of size 10 trousers, jeans would have been too tight though. I think it was because DD2 ate me from the inside out and was such a milk guzzler the weight flew off. DD1 was different though I remember it being hot summer and I had nothing to wear so had to go to DP's and buy some size 14 tops and bottoms, they don't tell you that afterwards maternity things are too big and normal clothes don't fit. We are a bit unfortunate as we can't hide behind layers of clothes with it being Summer. Even with being back in size 10 trousers I still had a jelly belly for a while, all that stretched skin can't just pop back.

Anyway thats me waffling away as normal, whats everyone doing today? I'm dropping BOTH DDs off at nursery then off shopping for a few bits then housework before picking them up, going to wash moses basket covers as well and air the basket itself it's a lovely summers day here too

sweetkitty · 04/06/2008 07:43

Who said the first 4 weeks were hard has never had a tantruming toddler in a public place. TBH I found DD1 as a baby so easy and a bit boring. She slept through from and early age and was never demanding. DD2 however.....................

isaidno · 04/06/2008 07:58

SK - having a small baby is rather boring; i much prefer it when they are cuddly 6 mths plus.
Have a lovely morning off.

It is a nice day here today, so must go put washing on the line. Then got to take the 2 DS to the dentist (and me - so better go clean the branflakes out of my teeth!)

For the record I am not a squirter!

Libra1975 · 04/06/2008 09:05

I think that's one of the things I worry about, not that I won't have plenty to do, keeping the small one fed and changed obviosuly takes up a lot up time, just that I am going to be bored by it.

disneystar · 04/06/2008 09:35

if i put my washing on the line which an effort right now it would mean more effort to go get it then i have to iron it
tumble dryer for me right now as my cleaner is off

Libra1975 · 04/06/2008 09:46

I solve that conudrum by not having a washing line

Just had MW come visit, the little bugger
darling is transverse but I am only 34 weeks and it still has lots of room to turn, after weeks of pregnancy yoga, hypnobirthing and NCT classes I will be very cross with LO if I have to have CS.
*bounces up and down on her ball

Working from home today - hurrah.

Anymore photos of weddings or newborns out there?

Also as far as clothes go I think you are going to have to wrestle my over the bump maternity jeans from my cold dead fingers as they are SO comfortable I am never giving them up.

mummypig - have you got the recipe for the chcolate rice pudding? In exchange I will post the link to some triple chocolate brownies which are easy to make and HEAVEN to eat.

catec · 04/06/2008 09:48

Morning all.
LOL at the tales of squirting boobs. Something to look forward to I guess

Advice please from already mummies:
We have decided on a Mountain Buggy as our buggy. We are moving back to NZ at the end of September (when DD will be 2 months-ish), and obviously MBs are much cheaper over there (and can get colours not available here!). I am wondering whether we can do without a buggy for 2(ish) months, or whether we should get one shipped over for DD's arrival. Do you think we can get by with just a sling for starters? (I have purchased some rings to make ring slings - any baby wearers out there?) Running low in time to order and send over now though so need to make quick decision!

Thanks!

catec · 04/06/2008 09:51

(PS. I grew out of my (3 pairs of!) maternity jeans at about 20 weeks - I must have been dreaming thinking I was going to stay a size 8 with the amount I was eating - so maybe they will fit me again after. Although not counting on it as not sure my thighs will lose any weight overnight!)

Heffagooday · 04/06/2008 10:05

Morning everyone!

Libra - triple chocolate brownies sound delicious! I love making brownies.

My DH woke me up in the middle of the night to check that I was OK. I confessed I was a little hot and he said he'd go and get me an iced water. Was feeling really proud of him for being so thoughtful (waking him up for stuff is such a hassle normally). Heard him banging around in the kitchen for ages before he reappeared with a plate Asked him what it was for and apparently it was for me to drink from without needing to wake up. I then established that he'd been sleepwalking the whole time...Very weird, and a new habit! Doesn't remember anything about it today.

Milk spraying sounds very entertaining. One of my nipples (sorry if TMI) is kind of double, so I'm interested to see what will happen with that.

Libra1975 · 04/06/2008 10:11

If my DH woke me up in the middle of the night, i.e one of the few times I am asleep rather than needing to go to the toilet or thrashing around trying to get comfortable or listening to him snore I think I would kill him. Probably with just a glance.

A double nipple? Do they both leak?

sweetkitty · 04/06/2008 10:19

The house is too quiet, it's eery.

heffa - double nipple maybe you won't need to change sides loving the sleep walking DH too

catec - wouldn't worry about getting a mountain buggy for over here then paying to ship it over to NZ, a sling will be perfect for the first few months.

libra - I will post some pics of my newborns if you like DD1 wants to see some pics of her as a baby in the moses basket. Like she ever slept in it long DD1 found out that Mummy was a much better bed. Hope that little baby turns for you too.

Right off to hang washing out, I don't mind it and DP usually brings it back in although as he is away tonight no chance of that

MINNIE1 · 04/06/2008 10:27

sweetkitty Second you on the baths every night, they really work wonders down stairs.. A little time to yourself is a treat too..
Hope you have a lovely couole of hours to yourself, so nice to be on your own for a while...

DD1 first 4 wks nightmare!! she had reflux.. DD2 was so different.. Feed sleep and that went like clock work.

Raining here today!! So have a few things to get in and going to swap DDs rooms around... Energy to burn and all that!

As for the leaky boobs i have been wearing pads for like forever!! I have pads everywhere just incase!

mummypig · 04/06/2008 10:34

The rice pudding was in the Guardian last Saturday. Here's the link: Dan Lepard's chocolate rice pudding

I agree that a sling should be fine initially. We're planning to do the same, and only go out and buy a buggy if we realise we need one after all. Once the baby can sit up we can use the lightweight Maclaren anyway.

at your sleepwalking dp heffa!

Catec I swear my thighs grew even more after having had ds1 .

bebejones · 04/06/2008 10:45

Having another at home day...feeling very guilty about not going to work!!! Well ok, maybe not VERY guilty! Had to ring MW in middle of night as pains so bad again, she thinks I may have the tail end of a urine infection and has advised me to drink plenty of water to 'flush it through'!! Subsequently I am peeing for England!!!

Loving the squirty boobs stories! My left boob is a bit leaky at night but so far nothing from the right!

Have had to take my rings off completely as fingers keep swelling up when it gets warm! I am praying for a cooler than average July!!!

Mummypig chocolate rice pudding sounds scrummy, please post recipe?!?!

On a different note...how many prunes is too many prunes....have scoffed loads!!! Never used to like them before PG!!! Same with fig rolls....mmmmmmmm fig rolls!!

isaidno · 04/06/2008 10:57

no constipation in the bebejones camp then...

Poledra · 04/06/2008 10:58

Morning all. Just taken the dds to have their hair cut, so having a bit of a sit-down to recover now. Actually, that's not really fair; they were very good.

bebejones have you only just had to take your rings off? I took mine off weeks ago, and I seem to remember so did some of the others. Had to have a ring cut off when pg with dd1, so not riaking that again.

isaidno thank god, another non-squirter! I was beginning to think I was out on a limb here.

Oh god, WW3 breaking out in the playroom, best go see what's happening......

Mummywannabe · 04/06/2008 11:00

Morning all.

Isaidno - Glad your home birth is back on!

Re- leaky boobs. My friend recount the tale of sitting in the bath and couldn't work out why she could hear the tap dripping, then realised it was her boobs. I can't imagine what breastfeeding is like, hope that i can manage it.

Had rough night last night and not yet got dressed . Gotta get going have essays to write

JODIEhavingababy · 04/06/2008 11:11

Morning all, trying to get some work done before my Uncle and Aunty come over (they are here from NZ) It's proving impossible! Postman needs something signing for, handy man keeps asking questions, DH's unemployed friend popped in for a chat (but he has taken DS out to feed the ducks, bless him. Thinking he might be Godfather to DS2 he's brill with DS) and them the whole MN addictition = NO work for Jodie!

I really hope BF works for me this time, I tryed my VERY hardest last time, but lasted 10 days, have asked all about it, on here and with MW and there are a few places where I and the MW's went abit wrong (Taking Pethadine for instance) I'm quite looking forward to it this time as I don't have a nice memory of it last time. So fingers crossed for me... Now I have MN I'm sure there will be someone around to help when times get desperate! I might be calling on you ISaidno!

ButterflyMcQueen · 04/06/2008 11:39

morning ladies still got 3 ds's home -2 week half term- so just a quickie

catec - i would get one shipped - my reasoning is that it is summer you will want to eat go out and sit about and baby sling not as easy in such situations

i am not a sprayer - a bit but not much...do recall that dripping in the bath and watching the milk disperse i the water

no leaking here either though i wish they would - sometimes i say to dp ' they feel like they need to 'let-down'''

JODIEhavingababy · 04/06/2008 11:42

Catec - Maent to say, can you find a cheap pram on e-bay, or on here, one you won't mind leaving when you go? maybe would be cheaper than all the shipping?

gillythekid · 04/06/2008 11:47

Isaidno so glad that you got the go ahead for your HB, you must be very relieved.
Funny reading all the leaky boobs stories, I had no idea there were multiple jets in there! Still no action from mine at all, hoping it's not a bad sign.
Went to see SATC in a flouncy dress, big corsage and fabulous shoes (in which I walked slooooowly like a man in drag!) Was so nice to be all dressed up and non frumpy, I wasn't expecting much from the film but loved it! Was v uncomfortable in the cinema though...bloody SPD!!
Off to aqua aerobics now, have to cycle there as I can't walk that far, will have a practice run up and down the street and hope I can still balance ok!
Happy days everyone!

catec · 04/06/2008 11:47

I keep having nightmares that I forget to BF and all my milk dries up!
DP's mum (soon to be my MIL) is an ex-midwife, now a lactation consultant and sleep specialist so very handy to have in the family! My new niece (her first grandchild) who was born at the end of April has been sleeping through the night for the last few weeks so hopefully same happens for us!

ButterflyMcQueen · 04/06/2008 11:50

wow catec what a help!!
thats great for you

isaidno · 04/06/2008 12:10

Jodie - I think one of the most important skills in successful breastfeeding is confidence. This includes the ability to ignore well meaning relatives / hv's/ friends who keep saying a bit of formula will work some kind of miracle. It's also good to find like minded mummies - whether on MN or in RL.

pigleychez · 04/06/2008 12:20

SK- hope you enjoyed your peaceful morning

catec- no real experience here but i would of thought a sling would be fine for the sake of afew months.
plus what a fab person to have for a MIL! Lucky you.

Libra- please post the brownie receipe... they sound yummy!

Heffa- Loving the sleep walking DH. Maybe you can train him to nappy change in his sleep!

Just been out shopping.... why is it i can never get what i want! Even more annoying when its becoming more of an effort each time. Nearly got Mc donalds on the way home but then thought i best be good as we are out for dinner tonight anyway after our first antenatal class. Looking forward to the class but abit apprehensive as not sure what to expect...plus DH and I are shy people.
