Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pigleychez · 28/05/2008 15:05

opppss sorry for that twice! Silly computer had a frozen moment on me!

Mummywannabe · 28/05/2008 15:17

Back from midwife appointment- gotta see consultant next week about platelets as they are a little low but midwife also said that fair skinned red head's tend to bleed more and as thats what i am she thinks it would be foolish not to be prepared.

Also measuring small for dates (32 not 34) she said not to worry easier said than done but babycentre.co.uk said it was normal to be up to 2 centimetres out.

Feel bit low to be honest, came in and cried. Guess just feel i'm rubbish at the whole growing a baby thing. God i sound pathetic, will pull myself together soon i promise!

MINNIE1 · 28/05/2008 15:27

pigleychez · 28/05/2008 15:49

Just got an email from DH, Do i fancy going to Ikea tonight as Cricket is cancelled.

He either isnt bothered about the football tonight or hasnt realised. Oh well... i wont remind him!

Great minds and all that!

Minkus · 28/05/2008 16:00

Lol at you breaking the bed Minnie! How did you manage that if there was no fumbling going on!

Just got back from MW, everything fine- babys head engaged at the moment hence feeling the need to wee approx every 10 mins plus when it kicks -ouch! She told me that it might not stay engaged though, and that the reason second babies frequently don't engage properly until labour is because the mums pelvis is a little bit bigger, so the baby can go in and out quite easily. Makes sense.

Baby measuring nearer 37 weeks than 34 (which according to their calcs would make baby around 11lbs on due date ) but ds was the same, always measured bigger and he was an average-ish 8lbs exactly when born so I can't get too worried about it. MW wasn't either, it's gonna hurt if it's 5lbs or 12lbs so it doesn't make much difference to me!

Unfortunately she also said that just because ds was a week early doesn't follow that this one might come early too- darn it! Although she did say that if it's still engaged at my next appointment it's a good sign!

Minkus · 28/05/2008 16:01

Hurrah pigley you got your ikea trip- hope it is close by so nice and easy to get to! Swedish meatballs and chips for dinner by any chance?

Heffagooday · 28/05/2008 16:29

I seem to remember someone saying what their homeopathist had recommended with regards to raspberry leaf tea - something like having 1 cup a day at 28 weeks, then 2 cups a day at 32 and so on. Can anyone remember it? I'm happy to go back and search threads but being a bit lazy.

Have fun in Ikea Pigley! I'm very jealous of people with Ikeas nearby, ours is miles away so we can only really order over the internet which is a faff.

Have just found out that we can't get digital TV here until next year (when they switch off terrestrial). I'm very annoyed because I CBA to get satellite but it makes for a very boring maternity leave. On the other hand, it forces me into doing stuff around the house and maybe even venturing out to do some exercise. I keep meaning to go swimming/walking.

DH accidentally gave away baby's name to my parents last night; we haven't told anyone so far but he just referred to her by the name. My parents didn't say anything, and we just carried on but I'm sure they would have noticed. Will have to gaffer tape his mouth shut when we see people, he keeps telling everyone it's a girl as well despite it being secret!

Is it very mad of me to enjoy pushing the buggy around the house and imagining having beautiful little newborn in it?

pigleychez · 28/05/2008 16:33

Just made DH white chocolate krispie cakes(his fav) as a peace offering for all of last nights drama! He'd had a bad day at work too so wasnt in the best of moods to start with!

Im so glad that DH has simple tastes! Im no Nigella so krispie cakes are perfect.

We love white choc in this house... hence the white choc wedding cake we had.
I just arranged the same cake lady to remake the top tier of our wedding cake for our 1st wedding anniversary in a few weeks. Suprise for DH but im sure he will love it!

Any other ideas for the something Paper part??

pigleychez · 28/05/2008 16:36

Heffa-

I hate it when people ask about names. I just say nothings final yet but we have ideas. DH just comes out and says it but i kinda wanna keep it a suprise. Im perfecting the "Dont say the names" stare!

Kaz1967 · 28/05/2008 16:57

pigleychez I am fed up of people asking too a friend asked me yesterday what names I liked she pulled a face when I said Alfred George which are both family names George is apparently common and she obviously sis not like ALfred Then got funny about my girls names choices too Keziah Keiko neither are Britich enough apparently especially Keiko which she kept telling me was Chinese because of a character on Startrek well it's Japanese actually and I Like it

pigleychez · 28/05/2008 17:11

Kaz- Thats exactly why i want to keep it a secret! People that we have told havent said anything nasty yet but you can tell my some reactions that they arent too keen... Tough!

We like George for a boy and are thinking of it for LO's middle name.

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 17:20

No one knows DD3's name yet (well apart from everyone on MN ) if anyone asks "do you have a name?" I say "yes and it's a secret" I do think a few friends are a bit miffed at not knowing but I don't care.

I had a few commments about DD1's name before she was born DD2's was a secret too much better that way.

We call the baby Bebe if we are talking about her, DD1 thinks her name is Imelda

sweetkitty · 28/05/2008 17:21

Oh just remembered I need to get RLT this week and start taking it, I get the tablets from H&B cannot drink the tea the burps from the tablets are bad enough (they are huge and you have to take 6 a day)!

gillythekid · 28/05/2008 17:28

We wanted to wind up our families as DH's are Jewish and mine are Catholic so we were going to say Mustafa Akhmed for a boy and Fatima Khalida for a girl, needless to say, they've stopped asking now. I actually like a lot of the Islamic names, particularly Asha for a girl.
Just bought my hooded baby towels from IKEA and a Tummy Tub from Mothercare, can't believe how tiring it is trapesing round the shops, really must reevaluate my boundaries when planning trips! Pigley take a camping chair to IKEA, there's hardly anywhere to sit down once you get past the lounge section!!
Talking of trips does anyone think I'm mad for going away for the night with DH at 35 weeks? Our English Heritage membership runs out at the end of the year and he really wants to see Osbourne House on the IOW, I went last year whilst away with work but didn't get to see it all, it's so beautiful. We're going to book a B&B for the night so it's not such a long day.

beepbeep · 28/05/2008 17:32

Hi all, been lurking but not posted for AGES.
DD is playing up at mo (she is 18m) and having been a really good sleeper has started waking at night, think she senses things are changing but doesn't understand what. She cuddles my belly and calls it baby and thinks she has one in her tummy too which is quite cute! Hoping to get her into her new room this weekend but not sure what to do as she's already unsettled??!!

Pigley - for our 1st ann. i found DH an original print of the area of Oxford he grew up in and had it framed - he loved it.

On AL at mo, but start ML as of next mon - 35 weeks today, can't believe it. am feeling quite sick when lie down and quite a few times have woken up at night actually having been sick (TMI??!!). Anyone else getting this, think it's cause i just haven't got much room left, may try some gaviscon but haven't actually got any discomfort, just sicky all the time.

have app at our community hosp next week for pre birth check (can't give birth there if have had any complications). Been told baby is lying slightly back to back (but on light side), but i'm not sure it is, haven't had any pain and it just seems to move a lot. I get all the kicks and pushes on my right hand side, not at front, so not sure what to think. also getting glucose in my urine, but not in my bloods, but again not sure what i can do about it (may fast before my appt) - really hope these things won't stp me from giving birth there.

Got our P&T last weekend, have made it up but is now sat in garage, quite reluctant to give up DD's maclaren buggy for something much heavier. have slight prolapse last time so couldn't carry DD in sling, but have put in notes for a slower pushing part so hopefully won't happen again, then plan to sling LO (have bought Close sling - is great, or at least DD's teddy thinks so!) and keep DD in maclaren for a while.

sorry have gone on a bit. hope everyone else is okay x

disneystar · 28/05/2008 18:10

beepbeep i think i spoke about this the other day i feel sick as soon as i step out of bed at the moment and frequently through the day
i always get this towards the end though
i think my body has just had enough
i know im certainly losing patience with my DC i feel so emotional this week just keep crying,im so tired,
im booked in for a section same day as clic but tbh
if i go into labout early then i do ive had 2 at 35 weeks
then i panic as i know i have to have a section and what will happen if i go into early labour and they try to make me go natural
i sat there today and though stop feeling sorry for yourself all the women on mumsnet are at the same stage really we are all uncomfortable and fed up and just waiting to meet our babies

Kaz1967 · 28/05/2008 18:20

gilly No not mad at all it could well be the last time you have some time on your own go and enjoy every minute. IOW is not a foreign country they have a hospital if LO decides to arrive N t 35 weeks to be honest they may just need a little extra encourage meant and support eating for a very short time. Take your maternity notes an personally I would take your hospital case and just leave it in the car then if anything does happen you are prepared.

Kaz1967 · 28/05/2008 18:29

beepbeep I feel sick easily esp if I do not eat which is why I have been trying to get them to let me check my blood sugars rather than starve for a GTT. The only way I can avoid this it to eat small snacks frequently including over night. If I do not eat at about 11-12pm before going to bed and then again at 4-5am when I wake for the umteath time time I feel sick (and often am sick) and have a headache all day.

Try looking up things on the GI diet and go for things that take longer for the body to process that may help.

Heffagooday · 28/05/2008 18:34

Pigley - for our first anniversary, DH bought me a beautiful Filofax (I know they're terribly '80s but mine keeps me sane!) and I "adopted" an otter for him because we spent ages on honeymoon otter-watching. I initially wanted to buy him an aerial photograph or a beautiful map and have it framed but never got round to it.

Re names - we revealed a name on our shortlist to my sister a while back. She didn't say anything, which made it fairly obvious that she didn't like it. We've since found a name that we both really loved. It's very unusual but it's a real name and a family name. I would hate to have it ruined so I just haven't told anyone. MiL will hate it, but she's convinced we're having a boy and has picked out some names for it. Oh well! I have a boy's name ready just in case.

Kaz - Keziah is such a beautiful name! Have you ever read Rumer Godden's 'The Diddakoi'? It was one of my favourite books as a child, and that was one of the names. So lovely

CilC · 28/05/2008 18:38

pigley I have the best white chocolate mud cake recipe ever! Will have to send it to you!
When we celebrated our paper anniversary (all those years ago) DH bought me a bracelet but wrapped it in a little paper box with lots of paper layers.

I really wanted to call my DD Daisy. I loved the name and when DH told MIL she shrieked - Oh my God a cow's name! I was devastated and kept thinking of the cow connection. In the end we did not call her that and I m happy with her name however I have learnt - never tell anyone they can not help but react. Having said that I am really torn between 2 names and just can not make a decision. I really wish I could discuss it with someone...though I have seen what happens to people who post names on MN name thread. (You have to be very very brave!!!)

CilC · 28/05/2008 18:46

disneystar I asked my consultant what would happen if I went into labour early as I too was worried that whoever was there at the time might try and force me to have a vaginal birth. She asked me to give back my notes and then proceeded to write in large letters -not suitable for vaginal delivery.
I am wondering if you can see your consultant as request the same - hopefully it will put your mind at ease.

JODIEhavingababy · 28/05/2008 19:26

Hi all. Hope you've all had goos days? What is it with Pregnant ladies and Ikea? I'm desperate to go, but couldn't bear it with DS in tow and DH hates it with a passion.... Oh well

Pigley I bought DH a magazine subsciption for our first anniversary, I still keep it up now, 5 years later! BTW, how's your sister?

kaz thats alot of studying, must be mad, or brainy!

Twinkle how you getting on?

I've got a very unsettled 20 month old, he was a very good sleeper (slept through from 5 weeks, lucky I know) but now he takes ages to get to sleep, we just have to ket him cry and he wakes up at least once in the night... THey must sense something changing... Just hoping it's a phase

EEC · 28/05/2008 19:28

Just caught up on last 5 days and it was like reading war and peace. Too much going on to comment on so I'll just say:

Wow. Congrats PEANUT. News made me blub too.

Hello JUSTJULES. Really pleased you've joined us at last. What a story and what a brave you.

Glad the twins still holding on TWINKLE.

Have got a rotten cold and I feel like my insides are coming out everytime I cough! Absolutely no sleep here either so am completely shattered and generally tearful. Oh, the joys! Anyone got any tips for stopping a cough while pregnant? Can I take anything?
