Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CilC · 27/05/2008 14:33

Hi everyone. I went to the Consultant today and she has booked my C section in so I now have an official date for when my LO will arrive! 14th July which is seven weeks - wow! She felt I needed to know the end is in sight with a fixed date after all I have been through. I agreed! I wanted to hug her.

So I now have 7 weeks to recover and make the most of things before my wee family of 3 becomes 4!

The Consultant also believes I need the holiday to Cornwall, so we have decided to go. Apparently the weather will be blahh but they have an indoor pool and DH has changed massage booked to pedicure and manicure.

I am feeling so much more upbeat now, it is amazing the difference a day makes!

pigleychez - I am very desperate to paint and decorate - it is bizarre this nesting desire that overcomes us.

minipinkscottish - banks make everyone weepy.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi All,

am (HUGE YAWN EMOTICON) today - DD is a total nightmare just now!! She keeps wakiening up in the night and taking ages to settle - am soo knackered.

KAZ - glad your exams went okay - I am rubbish at Maths - dropped the o'grade and just did arithmetic! I have a very illogical (but creative) brain What are you studying? I thought you were a nurse?

MUMMYBE?MUMMYPUIG - is it one of you two who is studying child development - how is that going?

PUDDINGCHEF - hi again. Must have taken you eons to catch up!!

CILC - yeah!! You have a definite date now - enjoy your hol when it arrives.

JODIE - don't do too much or you will really suffer!! You need to rest too.

MINIPINK - no wonder you are weepy - you must be v tired with all those kids! Was it your friend on the documentary the other night

SWEETKITTY - how is your hubbies feet? How are you feeling with your SPD now?

Anyone else's littley go through a stage of not sleeping at night? Don't know what to do with her - keep telling her I am gonna chuck her out the window How can someone so beautiful and angelic looking be such a MONSTER!!!

PURPLEJENNY - they always know when to try your patience don't they? DD is into everything now too - cupboard locks on what we can but she can open doors now and is in the loo pulling out cotton wool from her top n tail bowl to 'wash' everything with. She loves to take all the nappie bags and nappies out and strew them everywhere too - I make her pick them up now Another fav is pulling out the laundry. Arggg!!

MINKUS - my birth plan is:

Stay at home as long as poss. Have a large glass of wine and bath with oils in.
Use birthing ball and tens machine. Then G & A and birth pool.
Deliver in pool if possible.
No syntometrine (but they will need to give me a syntocinon jag apparently 'cos I had a MROP last time, even after the syntometrine jag.)
No diamorphine - made me really vomit.

Alternatively - scream epidural at the first opportunity and relax after that

Just depends how sore it is this time. If it is 'bearable' I will try to persevere with pool birth. If it is anything like last time I will be shouting for an epidural ASAP!

My DH's birth plan is:

Call my Mum immediately so she can get here ASAP - she lives 4.5 hours drive away!

Take care allxxxx

oops!

minipinkscottish · 27/05/2008 15:42

Clic - good news on getting a date - how exciting
Rumpel - no not my friend on tv. She had to stop at 13 but would have been delighted with more - but now she does have 11 or 12 grandchildren.

Finished LO's room - yippee! My room is decorated but I have it all to put back together again Ah well it will be worth it in in the end xx

Birth plan
Phone MW with first sign of labour ( last time I was 50 mins start to finish so want her to get here)
Phone friend to take LO's
Midwife gets here.
Baby arrives within 30 mins

CilC · 27/05/2008 15:56

LOL at birth plans!
Mine...hmmm

  1. Call gf to look after DD.
  2. Go to hospital and wait until theatre ready
  3. Keep DH calm in theatre - he was a bit too nosey last time and nearly passed out
  4. Hold LO
  5. Get DH to plaster me every day with betadine so I do not get any infections...
sweetkitty · 27/05/2008 16:05

Hello everyone had my physio today and ouch she yanked me this way and that then said that was my lot and she wouldn't see me again and I was just to grin and bear it until the birth on the plus side saw two little newborns leaving the hospital aww that will be all of us soon. On the way home from the hospital felt really sick and started to get bad stomach cramps, was saying to DP get me home now, at first thought "no it can't be as the pain was coming in waves" but soon realised what it was and I needed the toilet NOW, don't want to TMI but lets just say my fears were confirmed but I feel a lot better now. Taking it very easy for the rest of the day now.

Am so at all of you painting this is my first pregnancy I haven't painted any rooms, just couldn't do it with the pelvic siutation. Will definitely be painting the kitchen once DD3 is here. And am still sorting out getting new bed linen for our room.

Rumpel - DPs feet are a bit blistered but he's ok, I'm so so with the SPD (see above)

CliC - 14th July is DPs birthday he's hoping I don't have the baby on that date though. I think the holiday might be good for you just hope the weather gets better.

pigley - bet you can't wait for your new bed to arrive

minipink - sorry you are feeling a bit rough, we are just about to go through the remortgaging thing ourselves I think I will leave most of it to DP (he works for a major bank near Edinburgh I think you can guess which one ) so he can deal with it all

heffa - happy new car

minkus - my birth plan will go something like this:
Please break my waters ASAP if not already gone
G&A only even if I am begging for morphine do not give me it, lie if necessary
Please ensure I slow down with pushing as babies head crowns (previous scar will be under pressure)
Baby delivered onto my chest, cord is not cut until it has stopped pulsing.
No syntometrin

erm can't think of anything else

mummypig - the 39-42 week rule is merely due to money i.e. they have to pay MWs extra to be oncall so 3 weeks is all they will pay for, always wondered what would happen if I went into labour at 38+6?

puddingchef - hello again never had to deal with crayons on the wall post a general MN thread I'm sure someone will have a magic cure.

Right am off theres so many posts on here now everytime is like an essay

MINNIE1 · 27/05/2008 16:07

Rumpel,
Sorry to hear DD is keeping you up, know how you feel. What is her night like? how many time does she get up? does she have a soother? Does she sleep much during the day?

Some things that worked for me:

A)Stay in her room no matter what.. I even opted rocking DD1 on a bad night.

B)Dozol, teething can be a bitch and i found if there very bad i would give dozol and it would settle them back.

C)A drink and a cuddle.

D)Done the pick up put down and it worked, always useing the words night night.

Both DD sleep in darkness, black out blinds and door shut. It was the only way they would sleep.
Hope it helps cause i know what your going through. I think all LO go through phases and she will more than likely go back to a normal sleeping pattern again.. It's just tough now that your expecting and need sleep..

sweetkitty · 27/05/2008 16:08

minipink - your birth plan is like mine too although mine is

8pm put DDs to bed
9pm contractions start phone MW asap
9.30 pm baby arrives just after MWs have got everything ready
11pm go to bed baby sleeps most of night with few feeds
8am DDs wake up and meet new sister

JODIEhavingababy · 27/05/2008 17:22

Oh how funny, I think we should all look back on these birthing plans on 7-9 weeks to compare!

Mine is --

Mild Contractions start in night (about 2-3am) and get stronger.

8am call hospital and MIL, MIL picks up DS, get to hospital and I'm 6-7cm (so they can get me in the pool straight away)

10am baby born

Sounds fair enough!

Will have a proper catch up later, DS is trying to get on my stationary drawer and empty all my paper clips and drawing pins on to the floor
xxx

Hi,
It did take me an hour to catch up, and that was skimming thro. We're getting a new computer next week, so I'm sure I will be on a bit more.
Very of all the nice bags everyone has, I did buy one today, it was 3.99 from Oxfam, but hey ho, it'll do the job.
I'm sorry to hear that so many of you are suffering with SPD, I moan about aches and pains to dh, feel a bit silly now really as I don't have to suffer with anything serious.
Bit worried about birth this time as dh works as a car transport driver, and could be anywhere from Southampton to Scotland when the time comes....so I could be doing it all on my own Just my luck he'll turn up for the last few mins, and miss all the grief inbetween!
It's the only time I can vent without any repercussions
Right need to motivate myself to do dinner...have a nice eve

gillythekid · 27/05/2008 17:44

Not me next but I'd like to go around 39 weeks after a restful sleep

10am waters break

11am mild surges (not allowed to mention contractions or pain with hypnobirthing!)

MIDDAY call MW to attend as surges stronger

1pm get in birth pool as 6cm dilated

2pm give birth swiftly with no tearing and baby to tummy,
instantly lose a stone and a half.

2.05pm baby feeds with no hassle

2.25pm We all get into a clean bed and the MW's clean up.

Next day belly is severely deflated not a stretch mark in sight.

2 weeks later, look like Elle MacPhereson and have a baby that sleeps through the night and feeds well.

Can you tell I've never done this before?

Heffa · 27/05/2008 18:03

CilC - Good news on the date! I keep finding it difficult to remember that my due date is not a fixed date. DH's birthday is the day after though, so we thought booking a really special, non-refundable trip out somewhere would guarantee it being that day! A week in Cornwall sounds fab.

Minnie - good idea about the new wardrobe I was hoping that the car would mean DH would stop spending all his time on Auto Trader. He has, but now he just talks to me all the time about fuel economy and how it drives [YAWN].

Re painting - we've been repainting the whole house gradually, it's lots of fun! Has been getting more difficult though.

Loving all the birth plans!

Hope your LO is doing well Peanut

disneystar · 27/05/2008 18:06

CLIC i just had to tell you

my c-section date is 14th july too

do you know what you are having?

its weird isnt it having an actual date if we get that far that is

disneystar · 27/05/2008 18:15

thepuddingchef my DH works away to like yours he could be anywhere in country
he has promised to come back the minute it starts but baring in mind that can be anything up to 8 hours so im pretty much on my own to
plus thay have the driving regulations to worry about i presume your DH is on taco?

mine said sod it hes coming anyway

minipinkscottish · 27/05/2008 19:24

These birth plans are getting more amd more like wish lists LOL xx

My MW's are on call for 4 weeks for home birth - 38 -42. The kit only arrives on the day I am 38 weeks so even the day before I would have to go to hosp. except I wouldn't make it - let's hope that doesn't happen xx

isaidno · 27/05/2008 19:34

lol at gilly's birth plan - esp. the elle macpherson bit!

pigleychez · 27/05/2008 19:51

Loving the birth plans! [Grin]

Seriously though, need to think soon about doing mine.

Well been very busy today. Ive painted 3 walls of the bedroom and done the skirting boards. Couldnt do the other wall because of the huge 4 door wardrobe in front of it!
DH has the great job of moving that...

DH was shocked when he came in from work but secretly pleased as he hates painting so saves him a job!
Said its a typical "Me" thing to do so he shouldnt really be suprised!

DH and I just went out for dinner at Nando's which was nice after all that hard work.

Tummy feels really tight tonight, so feel an uncomfortable evening coming on

gillythekid · 27/05/2008 20:34

Isaidno isn't that the way it's meant to go?!!!

Minkus · 27/05/2008 21:21

CilC- glad you have your csection date confirmed.

Well done to Kaz on your exams!

Jules mmm the rack of ribs sounds delish!

Kitty just out of interest what has prompted you to ask them to break your waters (panics that there is a factor I've not considered in my research!)

I've not heard of dozol Minnie, what is it?

Tee hee at birth plan Gilly My fantasy birth plan would be to feel some mild regular discomfort in my tum, get to the hospital, have a big cough and oops! I've had a baby

But in reality I've spent aaaaages thinking about what could happen and the path I'd like my labour to take. I did this last time and I'm convnced that's why it was relatively quick and straightforward (note I didn't say easy!) I felt comfortable and wasn't frightened as although it bloody well hurt I understood what was happening to my body and could go with the flow so to speak.

So after me saying it's not detailed, when I look at yours minipink Rumpel and Sweetkitty it's like a bloody essay

Important bits
My husband B will be my birth partner
B won?t want to cut cord but we would like him to be the one to discover the sex and tell me
Prefer not to have ARM/EFM
NOOOO episiotomy- I?m really scared of this please help me to avoid it!
Really want to avoid assisted delivery eg forceps/ventouse
Student nurses/doctors/midwives- ok if necessary but 1 at a time only please
Pain relief
Hiring a TENS to start using at home
Gas & Air definitely
Mobile epidural maybe
No pethidine/morphine etc
If it gets tricky and I need a csection- I?d rather have a spinal or epidural rather than general anaesthetic if possible
Pushing
Can you encourage me to keep upright, maybe squatting/leaning please. Might not be so keen on lying down, I delivered my son this way but the position didn?t feel right, I was just too out of it to say
Only encourage me to push once I?ve got the urge (I didn?t get the urge last time until about 10 mins before son was born but I?d pushed for an hour, felt so so wrong)
The birth
Sytometrine etc for assisted third stage fine
Deliver baby straight onto my tum please
B won?t want to cut cord but we would like him to be the one to discover the sex and tell me (wanted to put this twice so they know how important it is!)
Vitamin K injection for baby is fine
Will be breastfeeding so skin to skin asap please
Would love some time alone just the three of us in the delivery suite if ward is not too busy

And thats that! Just got to fix the printer now so I can get a few copies done, don't think mw's will appreciate me saying "oh here's a link to mumsnet it's on there somewhere"

Been vvv sick again today (oh no hope hyperemesis isn't coming back, it did last time ) so off to lie down in a cool dark room for the night a while

Whoooops gargantuan post, sorry. Me me me me me!

Kaz1967 · 27/05/2008 22:08

RUMPEL I was a nurse dropped my qualification last year when I had to re-register as decided 20 years as a nurse and 12 in the same job was more than enough get less time for murder So decided after several false starts I wanted to do zoology in college at the moment doing a pre uni course psychology this maths and English this year (English is my downfall as I am dyslexic).

My birth plan is

  • Stay out of hospital as long as humanly possible
  • Use tens machine
  • Keep moving as long as possible birthing ball
  • Use a bath or birthing pool (apparently it shortens labour as does moving around and early use of tens)
  • I am keeping an open mind about drugs if I need them I need them and my word for needing an epidural is peanut butter
_as long as baby ok skin to skin asap as want to try to breastfeed
  • syntometrin and traction for 3rd stage is fine apparently it can mean you bleed less as well s cutting the time from round 40 mins to 10

I do not want to be
a) confined to bed
b) strapped to monitors
c) to see a doctor

Unless absolutely necessary

Very very happy to have a midwifery student esp a 3rd year one because I know they have to have 40 normal deliveries and will be working with me to keep doctors away

MINNIE1 · 27/05/2008 22:18

Minkus
It releives pain such as teething, head ache, high temp. It contains an antihistamine which causes drowsiness. It was my MIL that told me about it, she used it years ago.. I find when DD wakes during the night and she cannot settle i would give her 5ml and she would settle for the night. Like all medicine everything in moderation. But I found it worked.

pigleychez
OMG 3 walls well done, you can pop round to mine tommorw of you like... Will have the paint on the ready...

Heffa,
My DP is full time in the auto trader!! The latest thing is a digger!!!

Had a lovely bath tonight, i now relise i am MASSIVE!! very hard to get in and out and shave legs!!

Off to bed so nite nite

sweetkitty · 27/05/2008 22:44

Minkus - don't worry my actual birth plan will be like an essay, the reason I want ARM ASAP if they don't go first is to speed things up. With DD2 I was 8cms in about 20 mins but as my waters didn't go and with it being my second baby her head wasn't engaged so even though I was fully dilated I couldn't push so had to endure torturous contractions for a while, I asked DP last night about them breaking my waters and he said "they went whoosh and theres was loads everywhere and we were all mopping it up but she was born 10 mins after they did it"

On the natural third stage my reason for this is I had syntometrin with DD1 and it took 55 mins to get the placenta out, apparently they only have an hour to get it our before the uterus clamps down and you have to go to theatre for a manual extraction. I had several failed attempts to get it out including inserting a catheter to try and empty my bladder, getting off the bed and dangling over a bed pan with the cord hanging there to see if gravity would do the job (surreal and funny moment now) and the MW was booking the theatre when one decided to give it one last tug and it came out. Compare DD2's birth where she came out, cord wasn't cut until it had stopped pulsing she had her first feed whilst still attached to me, it was all v relaxed then I had a few whiffs of G&A and pushed the placenta out which after a 9lbs 3ozs baby was a doddle.

Sorry if thats a bit TMI for first timers.

DP makes me laugh though he won't cut the cord as he says it's too yuck but has been at the business end twice and wiped up everything (yes I mean everything) that may have been coming out. Oh and he's also looking forward to it as he says it's the most amazing thing he has ever seen in his life and wants to record it this time so he can remember it better I have said NO WAY!
