Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

i've made the mistake of promising to go to an over priced pretentious place for a friends birthday dinner...and if my husband and i don't show she'll have to pay £50 a head for no shows?!

and on top of it all, i still have to buy her a gift.

About Johnworf, i feel terrified for her...but also optimisting. i wish her the best. i'm not catholic but we have a catholic church around the corner so i went in and lit a candle for her. i like the lighting of candles for people. it's selfish to think i like doing it because it's cathartic.

eandz · 03/06/2008 18:15

optimistic

becaroo · 03/06/2008 18:30

I always light candles when I go into churches too eandz....

Felt really tearful today after reading johnworfs thread and then loads of baby stuff arrived that I'd ordered and it felt really strange to think that one of us had a baby already!

Sending love and prayers johnworfs way....

Jenbot · 03/06/2008 19:19

Hope everything goes well for johnworf, that must be such a worrying time.

Bit of a sad day here.
We found out that one of our colleagues who was on maternity leave died and it was her funeral today. It was a complete surprise, she didn't tell anyone she was ill. I wasn't very close friends with her but it's just been such a terrible shock for everyone.

potxola · 03/06/2008 19:34

I still have two pages to read, but I need to reply to jearound and Eanz
Eanz It looks as if you are better off without them. Some people are nasty and like Eanz says it is better "for the safety of my future children that these people will not be involved in their lives".
That is exactly the point. The relatives have hurt us lots of times, but when it comes to protect our kids, we should accept it is over.
I forgot to say my 49 yr old sister is nuts and a bad person who has tried to put my parents against me many times. It was only when it affected my ds, then 15 months old, that I closed the door.

potxola · 03/06/2008 19:42

I have posted on Johnworf thread. Thinking of her.

carrieon · 03/06/2008 19:47

Oh Jenbot that's awful. Its such a shock when you hear someone's died, no matter how well you knew them, and especially when there are children involved

One of my friends who's a single mum had her baby on Sunday (her husband left when she was about 4 months pg with second child). She's doing ok, but dreading going home. We've done a food rota so she won't have to cook an evening meal for a month, and people are taking her ds for a couple of hours a day and going round to do cleaning. But I cannot imagine everything she's facing on top of the usual hormones/post birth exhaustion/trying to bf. She's just at that stage where her milk hasn't come in but the baby really wishes it had!!

eandz · 03/06/2008 20:00

jenbot,
your workmate who passed, was she ill during her pregnancy? or did she die during her pregnancy? (i'm not trying to be morbid...i just can't get the post out of my mind). it's getting waay too sad on here.

Jenbot · 03/06/2008 20:23

Apparently she found out she had cancer when the baby was 2 months old.
It's awful because we all just thought she was coming back in August - she kept it very private - they must not have thought it was as serious as it was. You can't help but think about her husband and new baby. So sad.

Well, everyone should make sure you give your loved ones a hug tonight.

carrieon, that is really good of you all to support your friend like that, I'm sure she'll be grateful for all that help. What an arsehole her ex must be (excuse my language) to leave her 4 months pregnant.

lollyheart · 03/06/2008 20:27

Hi all.

Poor johnworf she must be so worried.
Every twinge and ache today ive been worried it might be labour i no its not but you cant help worry when you hear news like that.

Her daughter is a fighter by the sounds of it she is gorgeous .

just thought i would share some happy news my cousin had her baby today 6lb 8oz boy harley on his due date

carrieon · 03/06/2008 20:58

tbh jenbot, she'd effectively been a single mum while he lived with her, and he'd been quite controlling, so his departure was actually a bit of a relief, although obviously she would rather be married, but to a lovely man rather than, as you so eloquently put it, an arsehole. Or should I say TOTAL arsehole, and I don't say that lightly . I'm in awe at how well she copes. His mum even insisted that when she moved from their old flat to a house a week before the baby was born, that she left behind everything she'd bought them when they got married, which included all the white goods and most of the furniture. Everyone rallied round though and now she's got a house full of new stuff and likes the feeling of a fresh start, and she's changed her phone number so no more MIL!! (There's an idea for some of you... )

There's so much sadness on here tonight. I just crept into dd's room and watched her peacefully sleeping and welled up with tears, no idea why really, just feeling a bit overcome.

eandz · 03/06/2008 20:58

congrats to your cousin lollyheart!

carrieon · 03/06/2008 21:15

Oh gosh that reminds me that dh's cousin is due any day...these are the ones who used our baby name last time then said we couldn't use it too, but thankfully we had a girl so it didn't matter in the end. What are the chances of history repeating itself?!

splishsplosh · 03/06/2008 21:16

I guess I'm lucky in a way - I actually like my MIL more than I like my P! We've had our disagreements, but on the whole she's pretty helpful and supportive. dd stayed overnight at theirs for the first time on Sunday and when she came home dd said she liked grandma better because she made nice porridge !! So easily won over.

I thought maybe I wss looking slightly more preg than porky at last, but am obviously fooling myself - P took dd in for her swimming lesson today as was starting work later, and even though I was wearing something fitted, swimming instructor asked why I wasn't in with dd - asked if it was my time of the month!

Poor Johnworf - it must be a really scary worrying time for her - hard to believe 1 of us has already has her baby.

KashaSarrasin · 03/06/2008 21:18

Hi everyone, haven't been on for several days as I've been in hospital again...

So shocked to see Johnworf's news, off to post on her thread in a mo.

jenbot so sorry to hear about your colleague, what a sad thing to happen.

carrieon you sound like a great friend! I hope she continues coping OK.

congrats to your cousin lollyheart

Well, after sending DH off to the pub on his own for the first time in months on Saturday night (he needed persuading to go, bless him ) I started bleeding again and passed a large clot so he came back again sharpish! Another scary visit to the labour ward, kept on bleeding overnight Sat/Sun and they gave me steroid shots to mature the baby's lungs in case I went into labour, but then the bleeding eased off again and they let me out this evening. It looks from the scan I had today as though the clot I passed was the clot that was on my placenta after my last bleed (2.5 weeks ago) so I'm hoping now that things will calm down a bit!

carrieon · 03/06/2008 21:48

Oh bless you Kasha that must have been so worrying, glad you're back home now.
Tbh I'm not that great a friend - just on a team of people supporting this lady. I really admire the people who opened their homes to her 19month old ds for an indefinite period of time - I said no!

Jenbot · 03/06/2008 22:13

Kasha - that sounds v stressful. Hopefully it won't happen again!

jearund · 03/06/2008 22:14

Potxola I never thought of that. I've been so busy feeling sad that my daughter wasn't getting to know her uncle that I never thought that unless he wants to be nice and be a proper part of the family he actually has nothing to offer her and it would not be good for her to see him. Like your situation, he has also tried to turn my parents against me. We don't even know why, we think he may have had a nervous breakdown after his own marriage failed and seeing me happily getting married was too much for him. Very sad. But you've put things in perspective for me - if that's the way he is going to be then DD is better off without him.

Kasha what a shock. Let's hope that now the clot has gone that that is the end of it for a few months! I'm glad things are still ok.

Funny to think that our babies are now old enough to survive if born - I was thinking about that yesterday as I'm now 24 weeks. Like Carrieon and hopefully I was in awe of the picture of little Katherine. I can't believe someone that size is inside me. But what a shock. Poor Johnworf. I wonder what happened, did she just unexpectedly go into labour? It's a good job it wasn't any earlier. Lots of prayers needed I think.

eandz · 03/06/2008 22:56

yeah, i'm actually dying to know the details about JWs labor myself. I'm seriously afraid of childbirth and the more i know the better...especially in emergency situations.

DebitheScot · 04/06/2008 09:34

splishsplosh I get on better with my ILs than my parents too. Not that I don't get on with my parents but my mum rubs me up the wrong way somethimes (I guess because we're quite similar but don't ever tell anyone I admitted to that). I was a bit worried that my ds would like one set of grandparents more than the other but he seems to like them the same at the moment. He does't see either sets of grandparents very often though.

DS was really sweet yest and I think he is starting to understand a bit more about the baby. When we were at my parents last week my Granny gave us some tiny knitted things and as soon as ds saw them he said they were for the baby and could it come out now and put its gloves and hat on! Then yest I mentioned the baby and he said "baby put hat and gloves on at Granny's house." I think he thought it was going to live there! So I got the clothes and showed him that we had them in our house and we talked about how the baby would live with us and was that ok? He says it is but still seems a bit obsessed with it coming out now and wearing the hat and gloves! He's also been trying to be careful not to bash my bump and if he does he kisses the baby better!

eandz · 04/06/2008 10:08

aww debithescot, your son sounds adorable!

i really can't wait to have mine! i'm even starting to think his poo and spit up will be magical.

if we're on the topic of parents vs inlaws... i don't know who wins.

eandz · 04/06/2008 11:41

it's soo quiet these days.

but you know what i realized? i'm going to have to stop cursing/swearing and i'm going to have to clean up my lewd sex banter. for some reason the second i got pregnant i've become such a man. all i talk about is wacky wild sex.

hopefully · 04/06/2008 11:46

eandz I'm actually a bit worried about my swearing - I'm not ridiculous, but I always seem to forget to mind my manners when I'm around small children, and I'm terrified I'm going to bring up a horrible little child that thinks it's acceptable to swear every 5 minutes!

Beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable - slept cocooned in big v shaped pillow last night, with another little pillow supporting my bump, and I really wanted a third on to stick between my legs. Poor DP's not going to be able to fit in the bed soon! Also feel quit stiff after 90 minute train journey - who is it who has the 2 hour coach trip comute? How do you cope!?

hopefully · 04/06/2008 11:57
