Evening all!

TLQ - I'm already up every night for an extra wee too. Very vexing when I've just got used to my DC sleeping through finally. Grr.

Tink, have a fab hols, I've just booked one for the end of August, which quite frankly can't come soon enough .

Feeling fat and spotty with greasy hair. Defo did NOT sign up for that part.

morning

scared1976 · 08/06/2008 09:07

morning team january! hope we are all doing well.

am 9 weeks today (first day of tenth week!). latest symptom seems to be really vivid dreams. of course, given where my unreasonable preggo mind is, these all tend to be about the horror of the bean not making it. had to wake up DH at 2am last night for a hug i was SO upset. then went back to sleep and had another one. beeeeeee.

i know im being unreasonable. 9 weeks and having seen the heartbeat i have to have the odds on the side of me and the bean! is just because ive started to let guard down i think (imagining bean's bedroom etc...)

have a great sunday everyone. fab weather in london!

xxxxx

tinkis30 · 08/06/2008 09:31

hi *scared i am 8wks+1 does that mean in week 9 then

scared1976 · 08/06/2008 09:52

i guess so! sounds better doesnt it.
says in all my books 8 weeks is a really important milestone so huge congrats

mel2005 · 08/06/2008 10:10

scared i am 9 weeks today as well, i havent seen the heartbeat yet so still worried i might go for the scan and its not there. i have already been buying stuff, like the carrycot for my buggy and a baby bjorn active carrier (only because i saw a great bargain on e-bay) i have also bought a steriliser, bottle and scales (only because they were extremely cheap from tkmax) if i do lose bean i can always stick it all on e-bay. i did get rid of everything we had after dc2 as we only intended to have two but then we decided to have another one and we have had to start all over again buying things like cots etc.

we are off to the beach today to build sandcastles.

anybody else p*d off being labled as a housewife on the booking in form. i work from home as a health and safety co-ordinator but my occupation is a teacher, i am just having a bit of time off because i will be financially worse off going back to teaching because of the childcare etc (we dont get any benifits(except child benifit)- not even tax credits as OH earns too much). i even filled in employed on the statistics form but because i work from home i am classed as a housewife. i am going to get some tipex today and change it.

scared1976 · 08/06/2008 10:24

hey there mel. i think what you do should be irrelevant. i had a really judgemental doctor when i went in...

"i expect you are married?" (er yes, but what if i wasnt? it is effing 2008 you know)

"oh my, that job sounds stressful, i expect you wont go back" (im sorry, what?! yes i am going fecking back you sexist pig - if only so i can afford not to have to rely on the sodding nhs...)

mel2005 · 08/06/2008 10:46

i think it shouldnt be on there at all but its on the front in big letters like 'oh she is only a housewife' i do find that they tend to talk down to you and treat you like an idiot if they think you are only a housewife. But when i had teacher on there i had alot more respect, they didnt keep we waiting for hours and i had a better quality of service. it shouldnt matter what you are but it is there in big letters on the front of the form i will faithfully carry around for seven months.
anyway i prefer 'stay at home mum' technically i am a 'stay at home working mum'.

its just peoples perceptions of you from what they read or see, for example, i went shopping with my slouching around the house clothes on (jeans, jumper and walking boots)because i had not been well and couldnt be bothered to dress up. i was aggressively followed around the early learning centre like i was a well known shoplifter. it was so bad that i left in tears. when i go with a smart suit or dress on i am never followed.

mel2005 · 08/06/2008 11:53

i think i am going to tipex it out and leave it blank, and if they ask what i do so they can fill it in i shall say 'does it matter?'

no offence to anybody who likes to be called housewife

mel2005 · 08/06/2008 11:56

has anybody had any flutters yet?. i know i shouldnt be able to feel them yet but i have been having them for a few days. could it be something else (like wind )?

MsSparkle · 08/06/2008 12:43

Welcome Spink and congrats

Tink enjoy the holiday!

mel i wouldn't have thought it would be baby flutters just yet. I think the earliest is usually around 16/17 weeks onwards. It could just be wind?

I will be 11 weeks this week! I can't believe the scan is only one week away! The nausea is easing although not gone yet. I am so cold all the time though even though it's sunny and warm outside. Is anyone else cold?

elkiedee · 08/06/2008 13:30

I thought I was going to be sick this morning (1st time round I was first sick when we were setting off on holiday at 10 weeks, then continued feeling sick all the time and being sick occasionally throughout). And MsSparkle, yes, I feel cold/shivery a lot and don't remember that first time round, though dp seems to think I did complain of cold. I had ds in early May, but I think the weather in September 2006 when I was at this stage was not so different.

tinkis30 · 08/06/2008 15:49

it is exciting ms sparkle isnt it about scan.
we get back from hols fri and then scan mon cant wait
one of my 1st symptoms was being cold all the time i get cold in the house alot

chefswife · 08/06/2008 17:35

hello everyone and congratulations to some new ladies to the thread. DH and i are finally on Vancouver Island and settled in after only 3 days. i love it here, living in the Highlands, tree mountain views, although yesterday i had to deal with a kamikaze finch (flew right into the window) and his mourning wife. she sat on the deck near him for about 2 hours. all our friends were very shocked by the pregnancy news but very very happy. it's quite funny how primordial men can be when one of there buddy's has done the deed. my only symptom right now is no attention span... at all. i wander around the house, realize that i am actually looking for something then can't remember for the life of me what it is. i spend my whole digressing to other projects because i keep forgetting what the initial mission was. go figure. well, hope everyone is doing fantastical... moosemama, hope you are better. take care. ( i know there was something i was going to do after writing this... what was it? i guess i'll just have a tea.)

scared1976 · 08/06/2008 19:33

i have a question

am i being unreasonable to get annoyed when people ask me straight out if im pregnant? i find it really quite rude. obviously if i wanted to tell people i was pregnant, i blerry well would.

cross

MsSparkle · 08/06/2008 20:01

elkiedee yes you are right, the wheather in September 2006 was very similer to now. I know this because my dd was born on October 2006 and i was in the final stage of pregnancy! The summer 2006 seemed hotter than ever!

scared no you are not being unreasonable because when they ask you, you either have to lie and say "no" and look silly when you do announce the pregnancy. Or you have to say "yes" and spoil things. People shouldn't ask straight out, they should wait until they are told, even if they do suspect you are.

elkiedee · 08/06/2008 20:26

scared, have many people asked you? I'm not sure of the answer. No one asked me when I was last time. The only time I was assumed to be pregnant was years before in a cafe, and I was wearing a dress which did make me look as though I had a bit of a bump there.

scared1976 · 08/06/2008 20:31

yes! several! including one at work. i find it really shocking. of course im not drinking and im tired so there are a few clues, but i just find it so rude...

fourlittlefeet · 08/06/2008 21:01

I think there is such a type as a pregnancy spotter and its particularly galling when they are right.

I always counter with 'are you saying I'm looking fat?' which usually makes them defensive and keen to leave the topic

I've had a couple of close shaves with friends this week, but its my fault as, curiously, I can't seem to leave the blardy subject alone!

x

fourlittlefeet · 08/06/2008 21:01

I'm also 8 weeks today

LooseyC · 08/06/2008 21:09

Evening! People do say some odd things don't they? What annoyed me last time was when people (often complete strangers) said 'was it planned?' - why on earth ask that and how do you resist a sarky answer?

Well I'm still trying to hide it from everyone, easier I guess at 7weeks and being slighly podgy. I had to buy alcohol free beer so not to cause suspicion amongst our house guests this weekend... (Becks - and really nice actually). Wish I didn't have a reputation for liking a tipple!

Can't wait for my scan but it's 4 weeks away... time goes so slowly at the moment!

fourlittlefeet · 08/06/2008 21:22

when I registered with my Doctor, I got a student doctor who asked me so many personal questions, I told hime off:

are you married?
was it wanted?
how are you feeling about it?
so, you had unprotected sex?

errmmm... just give me a blardy pregnancy test will ya?
