Thanks, elkiedee - of course I think ds is a sweetie and every other nice word you like to think of, but I would, wouldn't I?

Am hearing lots of positive stuff about big age gaps which is reassuring. As for your exercise regime - it sounds pretty rigorous to me

buckles · 04/06/2008 14:16

largeG&T i think that I must be slightly crazy, but I am a little bit paranoid about putting on lots of weight and those that I know that have had easy pregnancies have all excercised right through. need to get my head around the weight gain thing tho'.

Do you think that there may be more than 1 in there this time?! Yikes!

As for cravings, the only thing that i crave at the moment is to stop feeling poo. Would like to wake up and not count how many hours I have to be out of bed for before I can reasonably go back! God I am such a whinge at the moment.

elkiedee · 04/06/2008 14:36

buckles, do you like swimming? The water will give you some support as you get bigger, and some pools have aquanatal classes (actually, I should look into that I think!)

fymandbean · 04/06/2008 15:54

hi all

For those of you that can exercise - great and go for it just keep that heart rate below 140....

I can't exercise - it made me bleed with DS, so am on a go slow for this pregnancy - not that it's that unusual a state of affairs

buckles · 04/06/2008 16:46

What happens if your heart rate goes above 140? Mine was about 18- yesterday. Can it be dangerous? EEK!

elkiede- I do like swimming but find it very dull, perhaps i should invest in one of those cochlear MP3 things.

hi

www.i-am-pregnant.com/Pregnancy/calendar/week/1

this is a lovely website so you can keep track of bean

fymandbean · 04/06/2008 18:34

as I recall babys heart rate is higher than yours, so if your heart rate doubles when exercising (say from 90 to 180) so will babys (140 to 280) which can be bad for their heart. Don't worry though, I think we're all a bit too early to worry too much right now but I would just keep HR below 140 in future. Some places alternatively recommend a RPE level but I can't remember off hand what that should be (my memory is saying 6 or 7 but not sure)

There is also something about not getting too breathless, as it means you aren't taking in enough oxygen, so if there isn't enough oxygen for you there won't be enough for baby...

Lastly there is something about overheating - again your body cools itself with sweat etc and baby can't do that.

There does seem to be an awful lot of conflicting information (including people saying this is rubbish) but the above three seemed to be the consistent messages (and in harmony with each other) limit heart rate and/or RPE to avoid overheating, lack of oxygen and damage to heart.

I got a couple of books with my last pregnancy which explained it all...

mel2005 · 04/06/2008 18:53

tinkis, thats a great website, the images are fab, thank you

fourlittlefeet · 04/06/2008 19:05

Evening all. Been a bit grumpy this week as have had the griping/pulling pains that I remember so well from early pregnancy last time. It feels horrid.

TNO on the spin thing, I kept going to classes until I was 6 mnths preg last time, and only started piling on the weight when I stopped them! I didn't go full pelt in them though; told the instructor and stopped when I felt I'd had enough, but I really loved them and couldn't face stopping until the bump started getting in the way!

I was given a fab pregnancy home work out by my gym. It basically is one of those fitness balls and a couple of weights. You can do squats against the wall with the ball and a few other things. If anyones interested let me know and I can write them out.

Off to forage for supper. Salade Paysanne tonight methinks.

Hello all,

I have nausea still and am very tired! Not long to go now until my 12 week scan! 16th June, less than two weeks away! It's very exciting

LenniEd · 04/06/2008 20:41

Hi everyone, am all packed and off on my hols in the middle of the night. Will be back in a couple of weeks, by which time there will be all sorts of excitement to catch up on with scans and things. Look after yourselves... and all this talk about exercise is making me feel very lazy!

tinkis30tom · 04/06/2008 21:24

are scans are on the same day miss sparkle ye for us

LooseyC · 04/06/2008 21:34

Hello all - just back from a week away and catching up on posts... Holidays aren't what they used to be now we have DS 5m, I need another one to recover now!

Like fym I really didn't want to tell anyone yet - but we were staying with another couple who were bound to notice lack of wine and soft cheese! But my friend wasn't drinking either - suspicious - it took us 4 days to fess up that we were both pregnant! I'm so not telling anyone else yet though (and as don't quite believe it somehow). I'm sure people will think I'm just fat as I yoyo a bit anyway and haven't really lost the belly from last time. Who ever thought fat could be useful?!

moosemama - so glad to hear everything was Ok, must have been very frightening.

Buckles - hello there - our dates are pretty close! I'm doing race for life this weekend and been running 5k a week to prepare. I'm so looking forward to giving up running completely after that!

tryingnottoobsess - interesting info about flying. I flew this week without thinking twice, never heard of that 1st trimester advice... good to know there isn't really anything in it.

largeG&T - Bounty bars - yes! I ate hundreds probably last time round (milk choc variety, but the need hasn't quite kicked in yet...

elkiedee · 04/06/2008 23:14

LOL at LooseyC and friend - when is she due?

Tink that's so cool that our scans are on the same day! I feel like i am so much further along on this thread (10 weeks) so it's nice to know someone else is too!

I went smimming on Tuesday. I so love to swim although it's annoying when i am in the slow lane swimming slowly because i don't want to over do it and i get other swimmers who "tailgate" me! I feel like i am too slow for the slow lane sometimes! I don't know why they don't just swim in the medium lane?

I have found out my local pool do aqua natal classes too on a Thursday evening. You have to book about a week in advance though as it books up so fast!

stripeywoollenhat · 05/06/2008 10:13

Morning all!
Like booksgalore, i'm very impressed with all the exercise that's going on - going up and down the stairs is more or less too much for me at the moment... I usually cycle to work but that's gone by the by at the moment, have absolutely no energy and nausea does not work well with dublin traffic, i find.... i am already feeling fat as a house, and as the lo is only about 1.5cm long, i don't really think he/she can be blamed - immobility and digestive biscuits, more like.

i think that the situation might be irretrievable by the time i reach the second trimester and have some energy to sort it out.

iwouldgoouttonight · 05/06/2008 10:23

Morning all. Does anyone else who is pregnant for the second time feel that they get no sympathy when feeling tired/sick? When I was pregnant with DS I was really lucky and didn't feel sick or too tired but this time I feel exhausted and by the time I get home from work I just want to sleep (probably doesn't help having DS wearing me out too!). But because I was fine last time DP thinks I'm moaning about nothing this time and isn't helping me very much at all!

stripeywoollenhat · 05/06/2008 10:30

iwgot - i'm a first-timer so don't have this but am feeling utterly useless and therefore leaning heavily on dp's charitable nature, so i do sympathise. does he know that pregnancies can really differ, and not for any particular reason?

Upwind · 05/06/2008 10:39

Is it too early for aqua natal classes? I would love to do something like that.

iwouldgoouttonight · 05/06/2008 10:40

I think I need to remind him of that. The problem is last time I was very much of the 'pregnancy is not an illness, I can carry on as normal' frame of mind - so I just got on with things and was lucky enough to be able to. So this time DP has already quoted my 'pregnancy is not an illness' line and thinks I should just be getting on with things again and not falling asleep on the sofa at 7.30pm!

largeginandtonic · 05/06/2008 10:59

LOL at Loosey and suspicious friend! How nice to have a friend to chug along with.

Never too early to start aquanatal, i went when preg with the twins quite early on. I have not managed any sort of pregnancy exercise since though as the classes always run in the day when i have the children. Useful that.

I am still nauseus, some days worse than others. I eat early with all the children and feel a bit better after that. Not sure i could wait till 730-8 like i normally do. DH is away so it makes no difference to him anyway.

I spoke to my midwife yesterday, she is lovely and remembered me from last time! (It was only a year ago ) She has worked out my due date as 1st Jan, so that makes me 10 weeks today. She said if the scan at 12 weeks changes it so be it but better to go with the earlier date or i would miss the window for the nuchal fold scan.

My hormoes seem to have settled too, hoping i am 10 weeks and this icky bit will soon be gone!

tryingnottoobsess · 05/06/2008 11:01

we saw a heartbeat last night!!!!

had a bit of a scare yesterday afternoon with a bit of bleeding, and ended up getting a private scan at 9pm last night.

It was amazing to see a little pulsating kidney bean, and we were both in tears, as we'd thought it might be over...

The sonographer said she couldn't see any reason for the bleed, and that everything looked as normal as it could.

Tink - come out of hiding, we all know you're 30 today!! Happy Birthday! {grin]

iwould I see the problem, no suggestions, but what a shocker!

tryingnottoobsess · 05/06/2008 11:02

Tink I meant

largeginandtonic · 05/06/2008 11:02

Iwould i am right with you on the sympathy issue, it is not as much fun being preg for a second time. The time you have to think about it and relax reduces the more you have. This time i feel like i am on a conveyor belt to the next stage, it is
