Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fymandbean · 01/06/2008 10:31

I would have gone to EPU if open and you were able to get there or a&e or ambulance otherwise...

you need to check it isn't an ectopic pregnancy ~(don't want to worry you but it needs checking)

LenniEd · 01/06/2008 10:32

Have had a search. Have a look at this thread EPUs it seems like you can get referred by NHS direct or A&E as well as your midwife/GP. HTH.

LenniEd · 01/06/2008 10:32

Those were my thoughts too fym. Also don't want to worry you, but best to get checked.

moosemama · 01/06/2008 10:35

Yes Mum does know I am pregnant. Don't know what she was thinking really, she must have just panicked and gone into retreat.

I don't like going to A&E etc as just after I had DS1 I had a problem with a stomach ulcer and was rushed in - no problems well treated and everything sorted.

Last year I had the same symptoms again and my Husband rushed me to A&E - however this time I took my medication and pain relief first so the pain was reduced by the time we were seen. They were so rude and sent a letter to my GP who then sent a letter to me saying I should only go to A&E in an emergency - er ... excuse me I thought being doubled up in excruciating agony with the same symptoms as before was an emergency. It had taken over an hour for the pain to reduce and if I had had a ruptured ulcer that could have been too late!

Strange thing is that it wasn't my stomach this time, definitely intenstinal or bowel maybe. The pain however was 100 times worse than both times with my stomach.

I sound like such a wimp, but I actually have a very high pain threshold - have previously been known to walk around with broken bones for days at a time.

LenniEd · 01/06/2008 10:41

Can understand entirely being put off going by that. People are horribly inconsiderate sometimes. How about trying to call the EPU directly? If you ring the hospital it is based in and ask to be put through they should at least give you some advice and might tell you what the best thing to do is... i.e. sit tight til the morning, go to A&E etc. At least then if they do tell you to go in you can turn up saying 'I have been told to come here'.

LenniEd · 01/06/2008 10:42

Have to go and see to DD now, will be back later to see you are all sorted out.

moosemama · 01/06/2008 10:42

LenniED thanks so much for trying to help - according to our Trust website the EPU is not open on a Sunday! I really don't think they would organise a scan with no blood loss, cramping etc.

I guess what's worrying me most is the reduction in my preg symptoms - have been soooo sick and exhausted but now have just sore bbs. That could be down to me trying harder to stay hydrated and eat regularly though.

Have thought of ectopic, but the pain was just in totally the wrong place and I'm sure the temp and pain would have continued and not gone away completely.

Maybe I will ring GP out of hours and see what they suggest.

Chocsolot · 01/06/2008 13:44

Hi Moosemama

Just read through your nightmare weekend. My god, I hope you are hanging in there OK.

Do you know what hospital you are going to be referred too for the birth? They will have midwifes on their on a Sunday, I would call them. I did that when I was really worried last week becaue my cramps were gettign worse and they can advice you what best to do. It really is worth giving them a ring, its not like you are being melodramatic you collapsed and had shooting stomach pains, so to be fair you do qualify under the whole needing an early scan anyway, in anyones book! If the mid wife says that everything should be fine if the symptoms are subsiding then that will help put you mind at rest and if she suggests coming in tomorrow or tuesday (which I think to be fair she probably will) then at least it gives you some more support in trying to convince DH to take you for a scan.

My DH was really anti going for a scan until the midwife told us we should and now we are both so glad we did because it put our mind completely at rest seeing a healthy heart beat. And even if he had grown up with the 'muddle-on' type upbringing I am sure he wouldn't want any harm to come to you or the baby.......

I really hope you get someting sorted anyway, do try ringing your hospital - it has to be worth a try

All the best....thinking of you......

Nellybell · 01/06/2008 14:47

Hello,
Moosemama - I hope you're doing ok.

Does anyone else have a rank stale taste in their mouth constantly? I have and its worse after eating, makes me feel really queasy.
Just told my parents and they are excited, it was nice to hear as I too had been feeling a bit emotional and tired.

LenniEd- I'm thinking of going for the nuchal scan too, its the same for me too, have to go to Leeds and pay £180 but last time I had the triple test and a high risk result so would rather get the scan this time I think. Which side of Leeds do you live? We're in East Yorks.

moosemama · 01/06/2008 14:54

Thanks chocsolot.

Have just got back from out of hours service. Have ruled out ectopic and water infection and say they have no clue what caused the 'episode'.

Then said I can't be having a mc as I am not bleeding! I asked about mmc and the fact you dont always bleed straight away and he just insisted I would be bleeding. He also seemed completely unaware that a seriously high temperature can be a cause of mc.

Anyway, he did say he would refer me for a scan if I wanted, but that it would be quicker to call my GP first thing tomorrow and get referred by them! (about 2-3 days apparently)

I will call my GP first thing as they are open earlier than the MW office, but may still book a private scan if I can get one booked sooner.

witchandchips · 01/06/2008 15:00

moosey we are all thinking of you, think the best thing is to try and get a scan as soon as possible.
best
w&c

LenniEd · 01/06/2008 16:23

moosemama I am glad you have been seen by someone. Make sure you insist on a scan tomorrow when you speak to your GP. I am sure they will be able to get it sorted for you quickly. It might be worth asking for a referral to the EPU and then once you've got your foot in the door with them they will see you again if needed. Have a rest this evening.

Nellybell also got the horrid pregnancy taste. Mints, chewing gum, mouthwash and digestive biscuits seem to be the only cures. As you say it is worse after eating, esp anything strong or sweet it seems. Natures of way of protecting the baby from nice food perhaps . I decided not to have the nuchal (am in East lancs BTW) but its all personal reasons really as you say with yours. Out of interest though I found out it is cheaper in Manchester at £160 and if you have a look around at private clinics in Leeds you can also find it cheaper. £20 less isn't a huge saving, but it's still a decent amount of money. All the clinics should have the relevant NICE standard, which most of the well known ones have - people like Baby Premier etc. I'm definately going to go for a 3D scan this time, that's going to be my treat this pregnancy after having a rough time with depression last time. If things go well that is

MissHairspray · 01/06/2008 16:56

Moosemama sorry to hear about your awful weekend. It must be really scary but it probably is just one of those weird unexplained things. Hope you get some reassurance from the gp tomorrow.

I've had a nasty taste in my mouth too. I had heard you can get a metallic taste so I was prepared for that, but this is like I haven't bothered brushing my teeth for a few days and it seems to come and go of its own accord. Eeew

Oh, and MsSparke i'm 26 so not that far off you

tinkhasabunintheoven · 01/06/2008 17:04

Hi, can I join? I am feeling a bit tentative, because I've just had two mcs ( I was briefly on the May list and even more briefly on the December list), and it's early days ( 7 weeks). Haven't told anyone in RL yet except DH ( am waiting for scans).

Moosemama - that sounds scary. Hope you are feeling better.

MooseMama, that must have been so scary, i hope everything goes ok tomorrow. I will be thinking of you

ColumbosWife congrats and welcome

My nausea seems to have passed today although that's not to say it won't return. I was examining my tummy today, it's not a bump yet but it's getting harder! Normaly when i poke my finger there, it is flabby but now it's hard! I think in the next couple of weeks it will start to form into a small bump.

elkiedee · 01/06/2008 23:59

Welcome CW, hope things go better for you this time.

fymandbean · 02/06/2008 07:42

Morning all!

mel2005 · 02/06/2008 08:11

good morning!!!
its a lovely morning!!! DS is off to nursery in a minute untill 1pm, so i will be having a quiet morning with DD after a very hectic half term.
i have beeen stressing all weekend as i have had some weird pains, i had convinced myself that i would miscarry, just as i managed to make the 8 week mark. anyway i think i strained something when carrying the really heavy potato pots, moving the climbing frame and cutting the grass on saturday. i now just have a sore back. I am seeing the MW on wednesday so i will not bother going to the doctors today. there is nothing they can do if i miscarried anyway.
still feel sick, so thats a good sign.
i have quite a bump already and that coupled with a wobbly belly from the last two pregnancies i could pass for 20 weeks already .

tinkhasabunintheoven · 02/06/2008 08:29

morning

welcome cw good luck for this time
hi mel sorry to hear that you strained something
my tummy is big too

buckles · 02/06/2008 09:00

moosemama good luck for this am I hope that you manage to get a scan sorted if it is reassuring for you.

Just wondered if I could have some advice re sickness, can it vary from day to day? Felt dreadful on friday but not so bad on saturday. Nothing all day yesterday until about 7pm?! Is this normal?

tinkhasabunintheoven · 02/06/2008 09:11

hi buckles ye it can vary i feel more nauseous some days more than others
