DQ - I'm tagging 4 weeks of holiday onto the front of my maternity leave which is why I am finishing so early, will probably get bored but at the moment (drowning in work) am really looking forward to it.

In a panic I ordered loads of baby stuff from boots at lunchtime so am feeling slightly better about being ready!

goingfor3 · 01/05/2008 15:37

makescakes, what have you packed in your dp's bag - I haven't given my dp any thought!!!!

PiggyPenguin · 01/05/2008 16:05

Had another low blood pressure/low iron/low blood sugar funny turn today and as a result have spent last 5 hours in hospital being monitored and waiting for test results.

Fortunately nothing major seems to be wrong and am back home with the prescription of 'take it easy'. Was very worrying, especially when difficulty in breathing meant I was getting pins and needles in arms but all apparently ok. Feel knackered from the stress though.

How has everyone else's day been?

Rolf · 01/05/2008 16:07

Same here - the only thing DH has ever brought into a delivery room has been work papers and a phone . What should be bring?

Saw the midwife today. She's going to take bloods in 10 days time, which I'll then discuss with the consultant at 37 weeks and hopefully by then any "issues" will either have disappeared or can be dealt with. Still dithering about whether to go for a homebirth if all test results are ok. Just so desperate for them to leave me alone whtn I'm in labour!

The baby is not quite breach - it's on a diagonal with the head closer to the bottom than the top. Apparently my muscles are so feeble that it's "like an olympic swimming pool in there" - loads of room for it to carry on spinning around . If my waters go early and there's still a chance that it's breach I'm supposed to lie on my back with my knees up and phone 999.

When I was induced with DD (at 38 weeks) the date was in my diary ages in advance. It was very odd going looking at dates with my consultant and saying "no, that's DS1's sports day. I'll have the baby the day after"! It does make it much easier to plan things - definitely a silver lining.

Quick question to those who already have kids, particularly toddlers ...

How do you manage bathtime. I want to get the newborn into a bedtime routine from as early as possible but also have a frisky toddler to bath too. Any tips?

goingfor3 · 01/05/2008 16:19

I used to put dd1 to bed first and them when the house was quiet deal with the baby. I'll do the same again this time, probably!

dylansmumplusone · 01/05/2008 16:39

that's been my plan on bathtime too g43, glad to hear it's worked for someone. i can't remember when newborns have a tendency to go to sleep for the night (wishful thinking!) but i'm sure it's later than ds' 7.30-8pm bedtime.

sybil that sounds really stressful hope you get some rest and feel a lot better. x

debinaustria · 01/05/2008 17:02

Back from May day celebrations, lots of fireman putting up the May tree(massive tree , decorated, about as high as a house), cake, coffee, bouncy castle for the boys and lots of rain. Off to make tea from whatever I can find in the freezer, could be fishfingers, chips n beans tonight

Re bathing babies, at the beginning I bathed baby in the morning, found it much easier.

makecakesnotwar · 01/05/2008 17:31

DH bag contains:
clean tshirt and underpants
basic toiletries
book to read (these three things are always in his work bag too- I know him too well!)
call list + copy of birth plan
Snacks and drinks
tennis ball for massage
camera

oh, and anything I can't fit in mine, which is my main logic for having a bag for him!!

PregnantPenguin · 01/05/2008 18:44

Hello Everyone - I can't believe how chatty we are! I'm 34 weeks today, but keep kidding myself that LO will come at 37 weeks...which means just three weeks to go.

Hosp bag list done, but bag not packed. Bit worried as my list goes on FOREVER! Seriously, I've got nearly 50 things on there.

I've set up my TENS machine hire though - minimising the pain is my number one priority!

PregnantPenguin · 01/05/2008 18:46

PS Did I miss an update from Neenz? Any news?

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 01/05/2008 18:47

Well it's all happening here guys. I had my growth scan today - both babies doing fine and head down, although slightly smaller than I'd hoped - 4.5lbs and 5.5lbs.

With my bile acid levels raised the consultant thought it best to get the babies out sooner rather than later! So he offered me a sweep, I said yes and he said I was already 2cm dilated. He has booked me in to have my waters broken on Tuesday if they haven't arrived on their own by then. . But he said I definitely wouldn't need to be induced - rupturing membranes should do the trick and even that might not be necessary.

At first I was at the though of it all happening but now I am used to the idea I am well chilled. It is nice to have a little notice that is on its way.

So there might be a birth on this threasd after all (although with 835 posts down and the way you lot talk - probably not!!)

dylansmumplusone · 01/05/2008 18:51

that's wonderful news neenz congrats! can't wait to hear all the details of the little munchkins. if it's any consolation about the weight i have a girlfriend that had twins recently at 34 weeks and the babies were both under 3 lbs and are now thriving and have no problems whatsoever. i think 4.5 and 5.5lbs is good - some women go full term with one baby and they're that size! best of luck hope it goes really smoothly. x x x

Rolf · 01/05/2008 18:58

How exciting Neenz! Those weights sound great. I weighed 4lb 13oz when I was born so 4.5 and 5.5lb sound great to me.

Good luck! I guess you have to be first on the thread to pop - twin mother privilege!

x

goingfor3 · 01/05/2008 19:19

Neenz, I'm so excited for you and slightly too! Your babies will certainly be here by this time next week. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

PregnantPenguin · 01/05/2008 19:26

WOW, WOW, WOW! 2cm dilated already. Your little ones really want to meet you.

That is so exciting Neenz! I was less than 2lb when I was born 30 years ago, so the weights sound fine. Will be thinking of you.

debinaustria · 01/05/2008 19:31

OMG Neenz, I'm so excited for you, how are you feeling now? You do realise if you tell too many people though you will be getting constant phonecalls from now on until the actual birth. Great that you won't have to be induced, they were about to break my waters with Tristan when the waters and Tristan shot out. Hope fully it will be the same with you.
Both babies sound a really good weight too

Take care and sleep as much as you can

sophiewd · 01/05/2008 19:51

GOOD LUCK NEENZ

My cousin was born at 2lbs nearly 40 years ago so yours will be fine.

splodgesmum · 01/05/2008 19:56

Neenz, how wonderful - the first birth! Good luck!

katyjo, thanks for your reassurance about the pain - I finish work tomorrow and intend to spend alot of time listening to relaxation tapes. I also have a book to read called "Childbirth without fear" .

sybil, sorry to hear you're not feeling well - that must have been a scare.

As for all you organised people packing your bags - help! Not even thought about it!

Rolf · 01/05/2008 20:33

ooh, that's meant to be a wonderful book. I've read bits of it in Waterstones

PearTart · 01/05/2008 20:45

Hello All,
So excited for you Neenz- hope it all goes well!

So many messages- not sure if I can keep up. There must be a few 2-legged donkeys in cyberspace!

About the whole pain thing- it is a different kind of pain that focuses your mind, and however the birth goes there is a beginning, a middle and an end. And when you get to the end you somehow forget the middle and beginning. And it's your birth so you decide who you want to be there- if you're not comfortable with students then that's just fine.

Glad to learn about DP's bag- change of clothes is good idea as it can get messy. And stuff for him to fiddle with whilst we get on with it all!
Have started to pack hospital bag (much smaller this time round) but have packed a long T-shirt type nightshirt for labour. (Mustn't forget to use it this time) And a really nice preg/ BF nightie and robe for padding about in after. PJ's or fluffy dressing gown would be way too hot in a ward.
DD has been "helping" me and keeps trying to rearrange the contents. I found her this am taking out my wash bag and replacing it with a stuffed giraffe and some plastic coins. Will hide said bag closer to due date- don't think giraffe or coins will be helpful for post birth shower...

DD is 19 months and into anything with zips, buttons or velcro and pots and jars. She often sees me getting dressed in the morning and now passes me the pot of stretch mark body cream and then rubs some on her PJ's too. Bless!

Sybil- hope you are taking it really easy now and feeling better. And Poppy- hope you aren't too painful after fall. BTW for the propection of the greater public I am back to my usual shy self. ( I'm the one at the swimming pool who tries to keep everything covered whilst getting changed) But birth does do wierd things to you...

makecakesnotwar · 01/05/2008 20:48

OMG Neenz- that's too exciting, and TBH the weights sound just fine. And 2cm already...

It's fitting that your pregnancy started the very first Due in June thread, so your babies should start the last (by which I mean the next one....like there aren't going to be three or four before us June bugs have all become June mummies!)

bitofadramaqueen · 01/05/2008 20:50

Good luck Neenz!

Had appointment with mad as a brush MW today. Measuring perfectly for my 32 - nearly 33 - weeks and everything else was fine too. She was completely fine about me being 15 minutes late too.

Went to look at a nursery today - too many red flags though so ruled that one out.

DH's bag isn't packed yet but it will contain snacks, camera, clean top, couple of magazines and possibly some shorts (in case I end up in pool and want him to come in with me!). We've got a small cool bag so will probably keep snacks for him in that.

makecakesnotwar · 01/05/2008 20:55

Got distracted by Neenz's major news.....peed off because I have measured myself for nursing bras, but eight different websites have given me 8 different sizes. WTF??
