Morning everyone

Neenz, fingers crossed for you

Debs, shame on you for not being the first one on here this morning! Enjoy your Mayday!

Sophie, LOL. Which version of 'Jet plane' have you got stuck on? DS loved a CD I had of Peter, Paul and Mary when he was a baby - sometimes the only way I could calm him down was a quick rendition of 'Where have all the flowers gone?' and 'Leaving on a jet plane'!

Welcome Essie

Welcome Peartart - love the midwife story. Tell us about your other child.

Spolodgesmum, I think you are perfectly wihtin your rights to say 'no' to students. Normally they ask if it's OK and offer to leave if not. Mean midwife.

Josey, hope you're OK. Glad things are better today

Upsidedowncake · 01/05/2008 09:28

Oh and London Mayoral and local elections today. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens ...

bitofadramaqueen · 01/05/2008 09:32

Morning all - more than 800 posts! I wonder how many threads we'll get through before all the babies arrive! Several, I think... .

Welcome peartart - lots of newbies this past week. Obviously word has got out that June is THE place to come for a chat.

Only in this morning then off for a week so better crack on. C'mon Ken!

Morning all, and welcome peartart

Had a late night last night at a committee meeting for the charity ball that we help with every year. The ball is next friday, so I had to go shopping for something to wear - thankfully I found a simple black dress from New Look that should do - and I might be able to wear it to work too (if I dress it down a bit)..

PS. Now I have "Leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again" stuck in my head...

mellymell · 01/05/2008 09:53

morning all - welcome newbies.

sorry sophie that we weren't around, but I was having a lie in till 8am - blissful!

However, feel pooped becuase my DS1 (19 months) keeps on waking up at night for no reason and just lies there and moans, until either DH or I can stand it no more and checks on him. He then stops, says hello and that's that. It's been 3-4 times every night for the past week and just don't know how to stop this. We have started leaving him for 10 minutes at a time, but he has the stubborness of a mule (don't know who he gets it from). Any advice would be most welcome.

dylansmumplusone · 01/05/2008 10:14

thanks everyone for kind words. it really does make you feel better to have some empathy when you're feeling really sorry for yourself.

melly my ds went through a similar thing at the same age, he was just awake for some reason. i found the only way to avoid it was to have him physically exhausted - either a couple hours in softplay or a few in the park. couldn't do that every day and i can't do it at all now so i don't envy you!! luckily he outgrew it in a few months and sleeps like a rock now. best of luck.

welcome to all newbies! wonder if you've all hit 'the wall' the way i have??

i can't imagine wearing anything in the birthing pool!! surely that's half the pleasure of it - being starkers. i still have my cheezy nighties from ds (wearing one now) so i'm set there.

dh went and voted this morning and rang me very proud of himself. he's never voted in his life (he's 28) and it's only my constant nagging for 4 years that's convinced him it might be a good idea!

Parofleurmapu · 01/05/2008 10:14

Morning all
Lie in here too! Dp still having lie in but with bump, trips to loo and cankles i cant get past 10 for a lie in!!

keep laughing to myself bout us all in pale pink and blue nightites!! some with dots and some with spots!! Hehe think that should be our next thread title! which wont be long

Welcome all newcomers!
Hope today goes well for you neenz, thinking of you

Josey kneekles! hope they go down soon, cankles are painful enough anyone else feel that when there ankles swell it feels like sunburn!!

I have got my bags packed and im ready to go!!! after hospital scare few weeks ago decided to get arse in gear and pack them just in case. I have been told like neenz if BP goes up, baby not happy etc i could be induced, or put on monitors constantly in hospital. Also apparently if my waters break im to go straight to hospital so suppose better be ready for all outcomes.

Enjoy your mayday celebrations debs

Im off to see my friend who has just given birth last week that will certainly bring me into reality! Im having a baby in 6 weeks!!

dylansmumplusone · 01/05/2008 10:20

oh paro forgot to say i love your nursery it looks so inviting and wonderful! can't believe you're so ready. my mum brings ds' amby bed back from canada (i lent it to my sis) one week before due date so if this one is early not sure what we'll do with him!!

Upsidedowncake · 01/05/2008 10:27

Mellymel, could your LO be teething? DS moaned and groaned at that age - and likewise was cheered when we appeared - I think because we helped the boredom. (I'm a poet and didn't know it.) We made sure DS always had a selection of plastic, chewy toys which he could gnaw on. Our local pet shop had a great selection , but his favourite was a chewy Thomas the tank engine.

My DH (American) can't vote in these elections as he doesn't have citizenship yet. However Commonwealth, EU? and Irish citizens can, which I always think is rather unfair. DH thinks that the London mayor (being in charge of local issues)has far more impact on his daily life than the party in the general election and is disappointed he can't vote. However, his vote would have cancelled mine out so I'm not too sad!

ktpie · 01/05/2008 10:42

Hello everyone,
I've had loads of work to do so been stuck in the lab the past few days and it has taken me ages to catch up. Doing paperwork in the office today so a bit easier.

I'm getting worried now that I don't have a bag packed yet, I made a list of stuff to buy weeks ago but haven't actually made much of a dent in buying all of it. Will be joining the search for a nightie as soon as I get chance!

Saw the MW on tuesday and everything was fine, baby is in the right position but not engaged yet which is good!

makecakesnotwar · 01/05/2008 10:42

Morning all- what with NCT last night and voting first thing this morning, it's taken an age to catch up with you all....and of course I have been humming 'Leaving on a jet plane' and crying (remember the scene in Armageddon where Ben Affleck starts singing it??)

Can I just say that I am 36 weeks today, I am being induced in less than two weeks, I started Maternity Leave today AND I got confirmation in the post that I will get full maternity allowance. I'm really having a baby. OMG

And I think it's highly unlikely that any babies will make an appearance on this thread...or am I tempting fate??

PS- love the nursery Paro.

nettiehay · 01/05/2008 10:59

Oh that scene with Ben Affleck - I know what you mean makescakes I am welling up right now!

I've got my bag partly packed... still somethings that I need to pick up, so it's shopping this long weekend. Bug's bag is nearly all packed, and DP's bag is still in the 'development' stages (ie he hasn't gotten it down from the top of the wardrobe yet!)

Parofleurmapu · 01/05/2008 11:18

hehe nettie my dp keeps saying suppose i better get a bag sorted but he hasnt done anything eother yet!!

meant to say thanks for comments on room, we are quite proud. It has been nice over last few months to have something to be focused on specially with Dps mum.

Parofleurmapu · 01/05/2008 11:20

oh and debs yes that is a cast of me!! remember we talked bout them a while back? well i got one for xmas it was hilarious doing it!!!

sophiewd · 01/05/2008 11:23

Many apologies for the song

bitofadramaqueen · 01/05/2008 11:54

I feel left out because I haven't started packing my bag yet. As soon as exam over I'm getting organised. I am only 32 weeks just about though, so hoping that I dont need my bag for a while yet.

I cant think of the song thankfully so its not in my head.

OP posts:
ktpie · 01/05/2008 12:00

DQ - I think we are due about the same time so glad you haven't got a bag sorted yet either. I finish next friday so going to wait until I am off to sort out that kind of thing.

goingfor3 · 01/05/2008 12:09

I am due this month!!!!! I must look really awful as on the way home from nursery a woman I have never spoken to before pulling out of her drive asked if I was okay and if I needed a lift anywhere! It was a very kind offer and I'm actually feeling okay today. About three people told me I look ready to pop today, I really hope the baby comes at 38 weeks like dd1 otherwise I can see me getting very snappy with people!

Spolodgesmum it's perfectly reasonable not to want students in the room. I don't want any as I don't want the midwife giving someone a running commentry on what's happening and how I'm coping!

I feel left out not having the blue with white polka dots nightie from Primark! I've got a hideous but very comfortable nightdress from Mothercare. It's too short to wear on the wrad as it doesn't really cover my bum but will be perfect for wearing during labour.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/05/2008 12:21

Spoke to DH about my birth plan last night. He thought it was very sensible for me to put in that I get very very irritable when I'm hot, which can make me intolerant - particularly to idle chit chat (read between the lines - anyone wittering on at me). Is that too cheeky? It's very true though. .

ktpie jealous that you finish next week!

OP posts:
LauraT · 01/05/2008 12:52

ktpie and DQ, I'm due at the end of June - 32 weeks today! too, and my bag is nowhere near being packed either!

it's taken me so long to catch up that I've got no time to write anything today!

katyjo · 01/05/2008 13:45

Hi everyone

makecakes you're scaring me, keep thinking I've got 4 weeks to go, but with you being induced in 2 weeks and Neenz thinking she might be induced next week, I think I better pack my bags!! Being 36 weeks seems much further on than 35 iykwim!

splodgesmum Don't worry too much about having a low pain threshold I don't think it makes any difference in labour, its a different type of pain, I'm the biggest wimp when it comes to pain, but you become quite focused on the baby (and the gas and air!). I had a student mw in when I was induced and it was great! Wasn't her first birth though, but it meant I was never on my own (had dh anyway) but she really looked after me and she was just observing, didn't remember any active teaching expect when she felt my tummy for contractions. You have every right not to have a student though and mw really shouldn't have made you feel bad.

whinegums · 01/05/2008 13:45

Hi everyone, it's taken me ages to catch up again, so have forgotten everything as I've gone through all of our chat!

DQ - I have put that I want the room to be kept as quiet and peaceful as possible. Feel the same as you, and am likely to screech 'Shut your clacker' at witterers. Unfortunately DP is a chatterbox, and I expect him to be the worst offender. But I won't feel bad throwing something at him if necessary.

Glad that everyone else is having the same nightwear nightmare. Why do manufacturers assume women want girly crap (with polka dots). Cartoon characters? Don't even go there!

Feeling quite chilled today. Workmates are planning a nice lunch for my last day (3 weeks today) and was out last night with other friends who want to do an afternoon of tea and cakes (NOT a baby shower) as well. Ah, bless!

damewashalot · 01/05/2008 13:53

Hello, I haven't been on for ages and only popped on a couple of times then but it just it me that I'm having a baby next month if not this month You'd have thought that by the 4th one I'd have got the idea but so busy being mum to 3 boys and coping being pg not really had time to think about it much IYSWIM.

So I thought I'd look and see what you lot were up to and you are talking about packing bags and birth plans!

I have a baby that is spinning round and round so am booked for a scan on 19th (37wks) to see which way up it is, ds2 was a cs due to being footling breech and this one is kicking lots in my pelvis, which is no fun with SPD. Hope it will settle head down before then but if not it could be a cs this month

Are many of you having planned cs? mine was last minute, it must be odd knowing that ou will have your baby on a set date.

I am needed by my LO so must stop ignoring him, hope all goes well for everyone.

sophiewd · 01/05/2008 13:54

Hi damewashalot - I have a planned one 7 weeks from today and yes very weird feeling.

makecakesnotwar · 01/05/2008 14:03

Bloody hell, that's major rain....was enjoying the sunshine and waiting for my cake (lemon and blueberry- for tomorrow's NCT- [smug domestic goddess emoticon])to be ready when the thunder started and the dog went loopy. Have successfully wrestled her into our bedroom and built her a soundproof 'nest' where she will wait out the storm!! Too funny.

Bags (one for me, one for babycakes, one for DH) are all packed with a printed list on the top of things he or I need to add...not much though. Car seat is even in the car and I gave DH full demonstration last night. Except we are off to pick up a Silver Cross I won on Ebay this weekend so need to take it out!

Anyway- off for my pedicure (maternity leave treat)...must remember to take cake out of oven though!
