So glad I'm not alone, people keep saying that I don't look that big, that it's all bump etc... but I know the truth, we have full length mirrors, so I know the naked truth!!

Had to put my foot down tonight re my sil's wedding here in July. It was arranged that sil, bil and mil would stay in our apartment, then mil wanted dh's auntie to stay too, then today said his cousin wanted to come - AARGH - this is 5 weeks(ish) after having the baby. So it would have made a grand total of 7 adults 2 lively boys and a new baby in our 3 bedroomed apartment. So I have told mil that it will be too much for me, especially as Auntie and cousin are coming for a week , so have said they will have to go in one of our apartments.Which also means that they will have to pay - this is our business after all, am I being unreasonable?

Thanks

libralady · 28/04/2008 22:52

Debs, UANBU. Does SIL live in Austria or has she just decided to get married out there. My Brother decided to get married out in Italy and we all had to pay our travelling and accomodation costs.

Anyway, How is the cellar story being perceived out in Austria. Sounds horrendous.

To cut a long story short, before DS I was a size 18-20 and lost a lot of weight when pregnant with him. By the day he was born I'd only put on an extra 3lbs above my normal weight. The day after, I was 2 stone lighter and got straight back into my pre pregnancy clothes. As a result I went down to a size 16. Then 2 years ago I had full blown flu and didn;t eat a morsel for 3 weeks. Lost another 2 stone, but put 1/2 stone back on. Went down to a size 14. And Like I have said this time around, I lost weight initially with this LO and am still 3lb lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight, however am measuring big for my dates. I am wondering that maybe if I have another couple of choldren, I may get down to a size 8! What do you reckon? Ha ha only joking, don't think I could bear another pregnancy. This one is wiping me put with tiredness. At least my back is holding up though.

Did I say cut a long story short?

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 06:21

Libra, no, sil lives in the UK, just wants to get married here.

People here are very shocked by the cellar story - it is quite unbelieveable really - don't you think? Especially that the wife didn't know what was going on. Ds1 came home yesterday with warnings from the teacher about"stranger danger", and that was a 1st here. Yet the poor girl wasn't abducted by a stranger but her Father!

Right got to go, ds1 can't find any ironed trousers for school!!

Rolf · 29/04/2008 07:45

I don't think you're being unreasonable, Deb. It's difficult to lay down those sort of markers with family but if you don't they'll behave as though your guest apartments are there so that family can enjoy a lovely comfortable (free) stay in them. You're right - this is how you are earning your living.

DD slept in her own bed all night - so lovely to be able to stretch out. Is anyone else getting really stiff in bed and having to get up to wriggle round?

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 07:49

Thanks Rolf for the support.Glad you had a better nights sleep, last night I managed to sleep through without getting up to the loo, but it was the 1st night that I had slept with a pillow wedged under my bump and I was much more comfy. But saying all that I'm knackered this morning, just got back from walking boys to school and been dropping off to sleep on the settee so need to do something.

sophiewd · 29/04/2008 08:05

Deb YANBU, we have this problem with DH's family all the time, his SIL is great and understands but brother, Dad and step mum think that they can turn up and have a room whenever they want to, especially in the summer, last time his parents came down we ended up in the sitting room and they had our room.

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 08:14

It's a pain isn't it Sophie?

Talking of pains, just seen a link to this contraction timer on MN, though it might come in handy for some of us

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 08:22

Sorry - hogging the posts this morning, what do you think of Ethan or Aidan? Votes please, and do you think it's a bit much having another ...an name with Stefan and Tristan. Be honest, I can take it!!

aberdeenhiker · 29/04/2008 08:34

In the words of my boss - I'm huge!

Actually to provide a balance to everyone who's not gained much weight, I've gained 28 lbs this time so far and I'm very pleased with this number! This time last time I was already up to a 32 lb gain. I was a size 10/12 before pregnancy and now I'm in size 14 maternity clothes. But I know it does eventually all come off and DS was pretty small (6lbs15oz) so I'm not risking any dieting!

deb - I vote for Aidan. I love that name. D's got a friend with it though so it crosses it off our list. (and YANBU about not having that many family stay!)

I slept well too as DH is offshore so I had all his pillows as well as my own. Unfortunately when he's away my mornings and evenings are horribly hectic with DS - so I'd rather have him home and sleep poorly. DS keeps asking for daddy too!

PregnantPenguin · 29/04/2008 08:36

I like Ethan loads, but Ethan and Stefan may be a bit much. Aidan is also cool. The 'an' thing depends on if Stefan and Tristan are currently known by their full names. My friend is a Stefan who is only ever known as Stef, in which case you'd effectively only have two 'ans' most of the time. But if they're all going to be know by their full names, may be a bit much IMO.

BBC news this morning says children that go to play group or nurseries have a lesser risk of leukemia apparently....

Off for 2nd anti D and mid wife appointment.

Forget Ulrika, remember Mila Jolovich? (Google her name and pregnant) I used to think she looked huge at 8 months, she doesn't look so big to me now....! Is it wrong that I am happy that someone in my antenatal group is much bigger than me and is due a few weeks after me? Small things please me now.

katyjo · 29/04/2008 08:37

morning all!

Debs you are running a business, and I can understand sisters parents etc, but dh's auntie and cousins?! I think it is totally reasonable to expect them to pay.

I really like Ethan and Aidan, if I had to chose a favourite probably Ethan, but both lovely!

sophiewd · 29/04/2008 08:40

Ethan

goingfor3 · 29/04/2008 08:44

Morning Ladies,

Nice names Debs, maybe a bit of a mouthful with your other boys names but maybe that just my early morning non working brain!!

DD1 is off school today as she has conjunctivitis. They recommened she stays of until the treatment has kicked in. She never has any sick time and this seems like a really silly reason not to be in school but I'm quite happy not to do the school run especially as dd2 doesn't go to nursery on tuesdays though I have to go into town to get medicine for dd1 and car tax.

Josie57 · 29/04/2008 08:47

Debs - YANBU re your family. You're being upfront about it now so they can make their decision. Putting people up for a week is quite an imposition and that's without having a new baby.

I vote for Ethan as this is one of the names on our short list. I don't see anything wrong with the 'an' theme - they're all lovely names.

I kind of slept well last night. My ds has a cold and possible sore throat which seems to be waking him up a lot at night. So my early night went out the window when he woke up at 10pm and then he woked up at 1am and I was up for an hour with him. The only good thing is that I seem to be sleeping really soundly inbetween so not feeling too tired once I'm up.

mellymell · 29/04/2008 09:13

Hiya

jealous of anyone getting any kind of sleep at the moment. DS has taken to waking up every 2 hours - nothing wrong with him, quite jolly when we go in (we get a whispered 'diddle iddle' so know all is well). He is just bored and fancies some company. We have taken to leaving him moaning for 10 minutes before going up, but he is a stubborn little bu**er and keeps going until we go up. Absolutely knackering.

And yes, I am huuuge - am expecting japanese whaling ships to start circling me and Greenpeace protesters to start draping me with 'save the whale' banners!

Asked for reassurance from DH the other day that I wasn't as enormous as I thought compared to a mate who is about to pop. All he said was 'have you looked at yourself sideways lately'. Could say the same thing to him if I was feeling nasty! He still hasn't lost his baby weight from DS

aberdeenhiker · 29/04/2008 09:19

mellymell - we've had to leave DS in his room when he wakes up before morning and wants to play. A couple times I've found him asleep on the floor in front of the door (he can't reach the handle) but he seems to have adjusted and is happy enough...

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 09:22

Thanks everyone for the name comments, and the support re the wedding.

I have put on 10 kg so far which is about 22lbs. My next appointment with the gynae is next week so no doubt there'll be at least another couple of kgs added by then. After that appointment he discharges me and the other appointments are at the hospital leading up to the birth.

Off to finish the ironing so my boys have something to wear tomorrow.Stefan seems to be growing out of trousers daily, will have to go shopping tomorrow for some longer ones for him.

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 09:26

Pp is this the woman you're talking about - a craving for bone marrow - YUCK. I don't really have any cravings now, I just want to eat all the time and more sweet things than savoury.

LauraT · 29/04/2008 09:28

Deb definately not unreasonable! have they forgotten that you'll have a new baby?? Also, they are both lovely names, I think Aidan goes better with the other two but either is lovely IMO.

Whinegums I am knitting a lacy blanket type thing from Debbie Bliss Essential Baby Book. Had a breakthrough with it last night and have got as far as completing the pattern once through... just 16 more repetitions to go! I only started knitting in Jan, but think this may be my equivalent og a craving, as so far I have finshed 1 comforter blanket,2 jumpers, 2 cardigans (one with hood), 3 hats (one reversible) and a pair of ridiculous bootees!

needahand don't envy your work situation, I recommend starting to cross the days of a calendar. It doesn't ease stress but it's quite satisfying!

I have no idea how much weight I've put on as I haven't weighed myself since finding out I was pregnant, and my MW doesn't weigh me! As a weight obsessive normally, this has been very relaxing! friends and husband say it's all bump, and I'm happy to believe them at the moment... will find out at some point after the birth when I have to find out what fits!

debinaustria · 29/04/2008 09:52

MIL has just been on the phone, she hasn't slept because she had to call up Aunty this morning about not staying with us, she's in a right state.AARGH FAMILIES

Josie57 · 29/04/2008 09:53

I've been pretty lucky as I have only put on about 14lbs so far . HOwever, my dh has kindly informed me that he thinks most of this has gone on my bum .

As I can't see it I'm not going to worry about it now where are the doughnuts/cakes as it must be teatime soon!

Josie57 · 29/04/2008 09:55

Debs - poor you! Stand your ground, you're being perfectly reasonable. You're going to have a houseful anyway along with a new baby and people shouldn't expect to take liberties. Take a deep breath and keep saying no, then come on here and rant all you like

Upsidedowncake · 29/04/2008 09:58

Hi there

So glad weight thing isn't just me! LL, how fantastic!

Debs, I love both Ethan and Aidan. (Did you ever watch Sex in the City?) Re people coming to stay, you are being completely reasonable! Have been thinking about the cellar story. It's extraordinary!

Aberdeen, DS is the same - with playing in his room and also that a couple of times, I've found him asleep behind the door. I don't know what to do about it, but I guess it's better to have him contained than roaming throughout the house and it doesn't matter really. Fairly soon though, he is going to be able to reach the door handle!

G43, hope your DD's conjunctivitis gets better soon

WOrk have just emailed me asking when I want to come in for my performance appraisal. Which bit of 'avoiding stress' did they miss? Can feel BP rising just at the thought of it! Have emailed back saying I think it would increase my BP / stress levels so will see what happens, but am stupidly obsessing about it.

Have my one-off hypnotherapy session today - and lots of work to do this morning. So I hope I'm able to take full advantage of it!

ktpie · 29/04/2008 10:03

Debs - I shouldn't have read that whilst eating my second breakfast, which definitely was not bone marrow on toast!

I still have no idea how much weight I've put on, have a midwife appointment this afternoon but so far she has only weighed me once at the booking in appointment, am happily in the dark!

Debs - your MIL should have made sure that you were happy with the situation before sorting it out with his aunt, surely she can see that it is too many people when you have a new baby?

needahand · 29/04/2008 10:16

Morning lovely ladies

Libra I am so jealous at you lack of weight. I feel like a whale!

PP me too! when I see another pregnant lady that looks plumper than me I wish she is due after!

Debs I feel fat too (I have put on about 13kgs). I was doing really well until the SPD kicked in, but it is hard to control your weight when you can't move much. Re the names I like Aidan it reminds me of sex and the city. Re the the inlaw auntie and all you are tolally NBU. I think it is quite cheeky on your MIL to impose on you like that and too right they should pay if they take an appartment, you are not the official sponsor of the wedding, good for you for being assertive.
