Morning all. Thanks for the messages on Friday and sorry I never got back sooner. Dr explained more about the infection problem and we're just keeping our fingers crossed. At least I understand it all a lot better and know I had no choice but to take the risks with the tablets (I've got copy of the microbiology report here). Having a blood check to make sure no kidney damage, fingers crossed will be clear Good news though..... Dr THINKS baby has turned round and is head down now. Having a scan at 37 weeks if still not sure but if she's right, looks like the homebirth should be ok

debinaustria - what an odd Friday morning you had, what was the occasion? I feel for you with the smoking thing. Dh smokes but always outside and now with the smoking ban here in the UK, don't have to worry about being indoors at pubs etc (not that I go to them anymore really!)

sophiewd - I've had a lot of those sorts of comments too recently but don't think it means anything. I certainly can't have this one arriving early either

Upsidedowncake - pleased appointment went ok. Not been around much so not sure what's been happening? Whatever the presentation is that dh was doing, I hope it went well about the placenta at 50mph, how funny!! Sorry I missed your birthday, hope it was a good one

whinegums - I'm pleased I had a birth plan last time round but I knew I could always change my mind when it came to it. Not sure what to do this time as planning a Home Birth. Maybe I should have 2, 1 being in case I do go into hospital in the end?

Neenz - I'm interested in hypno-birthing but can't afford any classes. Is there info out there to help with some techniques? Luckily my midwife is all pro homebirth so I've had no problems with that being agreed (obviously all being well), think they were very different 5 years ago when I had ds. Wow, just read your birth plan, thanks so much for putting that on there, you really have covered everything haven't you As for fear of stillbirth, I'm glad you mentioned this and others have felt the same as I don't feel so odd now. This has been a big worry of mine this time round but I feel reassured now.

needahand - I'm so pleased it went well and you are on for a homebirth. I felt like that on Friday when Dr said she 'thinks' baby has turned and is no longer breach. They will scan at 37 weeks if not sure but fingers crossed he'll be head down. Not as worrying as kidney problems I know, just I understand if you're as desperate for a homebirth as I am As for your urine tests, I'd question what they mean by inconclusive! I think they kept wanting new samples from me because none of the drugs they were using in the lab were fighting my infection and therefore they needed more samples to try and find a drug that it wasn't resistant to. Just make sure they make it clear to you so you understand what's going on!

Paro - I think Melly's idea sounds fab

goingfor3 - pleased all was ok

dramaqueen - pleased you are feeling better

sophiewd - of your day on the beach.

poppy34 - sorry you're poorly agree about trying some lemonade or something.

Right, ds needs help building something so catchya later.

bitofadramaqueen · 27/04/2008 09:44

hi everyone!

Neenz - I think the Maria storyline will be in corrie this week. I know I just shouldn't watch it because it will give me unnecessary worry, but I know I will anyway.

whinegums - glad you had a good day yesterday. Completely know what you mean about middle-aged men in beards . I wanted to have a look/chat about slings but all those stalls were too busy. However, did get a few good offers on things I was going to buy anyway, so what I saved paid for my ticket and a few other treats. I bought a lovely receiving blanket here which is very soft and cosy!

poppy sorry you've not been feeling well - hope you're a bit better today.

Right after my 2 day break I need to get back to the revising! Sadly without any creme eggs to keep me going - they're harder to find than diesel in a Scottish petrol station these days!

Morning everyone.

I've started a thread about whether I'll be able to use the MLU. If anyone knows anything about whether I can insist on it, the thread is here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1365/520575?stamp=080427101819

DD has been in a foul mood for about 2.5 hours - screaming, kicking, all manner of revolting toddler behaviour. She's calmed down now, as have I (I started off fine but deteriorated into demented mummy ) but I'm exhausted now!

katyjo · 27/04/2008 10:43

Hi all,

Rolf - my friend is called Kirsty and up in Glasgow. Did Jan have a similar story?

Neenz - I will try to avoid corrie, I watch a cot death story in hollyoaks just after ds was born and it really traumatised me.
I was watching multiple mums of discovery home and health this morning. The mum gave birth naturally one twin ceph and one breech. Don't know whether you like those programmes, I find them quite good, only because I like to pick up on all the possibilities and what protocols are, I know I'm going to be one of those know it all middle class mums you've been talking about!

I have been feeling a little bit crampy, sort of period pains the last 2 days but I have decided its my bowels, must be so long since I had period pains I've forgotten what they are like, either that or my bowels are so far from where they used to be I have lost track of them!!

Off to the babyshow this afternoon, hoping I've got enough energu to waddle round!

poppy34 · 27/04/2008 12:40

hi all -feeling bit better today but not planning on straying too far from sofa.

looneytunes - have done the hypno class but think if you read the book (marie mongan wrote it I think) you'd do almost as well. it does give you the ethos and the exercises to practice. From what I can see the key thing is to find the right kind of visualisation/relaxaton technique and practice it.

I have a cd if you want me to record and send it to you. If nothign else its really nice and positive to listen to when you are dropping off to sleep.

katyjo/neenz -not sure what corrie story line is but have been skipping the archers podcasts that dealt with a premature baby. Even though all ended well was a bit too close to home. Think might be sticking to dirty sexy money and brothers & sisters on sky plus from now on in.

Good luck with revising today DQ - blanket looks lovely.

Upsidedowncake · 27/04/2008 13:19

Hi everyone

Rolf, you sound like you've had a tough morning. How old is your DD? I hate it when I turn into demented mummy.

Looney, I hope the tablets help.

Whinegums, DQ, - glad you had a lovely time at the Baby show.

Sadly there's no appropriate Baby Show for us Londoners to go to.

Katyjo, if you are worried about crampy feeling, perhaps you should call NHS Direct, and ask them.

Poppy, glad you're feeling better.

DS is no longer Master hole in one - he's Master hole in none! Poor chap has had four accidents this morning, although usually averages 1 a day or less. He's so upset about it - two have been poos so I wonder if he has an upset tummy which is putting him off his game. Cheerful mummy rinses trousers and pants and adds them to every growing pile of washing. Have put him in pull-ups as "it's nearly nap-time" and frankly, I could do without changing him again for a couple of hours.

Suddenly really tired today. Have had two naps myself and am starving hungry.

poppy34 · 27/04/2008 13:26

upsidedowncake- think the babyshow is coming to london in october but bit late for buying pre birth stuff for us creme egg chatters.

Poor DS - sounds like he is really trying so must be tough when has these lapses.

Katyjo -where is the cramp feeling? are you sure its not muscular (know completely what you mean about forgetting what period pain feels like)? Have been leaning quite badly into one hip -this gives me a pain across my hip/lower back which I was worried about as was getting it a lot ( if I walk too far or sleep in certain positions ). found pilates exercises to correct this and really helps.

bitofadramaqueen · 27/04/2008 14:49

kaytjo - I mentioned some period pain type cramps to the mw during my hospital visit the other day and we agreed it was most likely ligament pains as the baby gets comfy! I do recall getting similar pains back in early pregnancy and being told it was the ligaments stretch etc. If you're worried I'd call the triage at your hospital/maternity unit for some reassurance though.

ucake - I've been getting very tired of late too. Had a great nap the other day for about an hour and I never nap during the day. I think its common to start getting really hungry at this stage - we're finally allowed to have those extra 200 calories we've been, ahem, denying ourselves throughout pregnancy .

systemsaddict · 27/04/2008 14:53

Ok, now I do officially believe in pregnancy brain ... Just had my bank card declined in Spar. Odd, I thought, there's enough in there, wonder what the problem is. Came home to check my account and discovered that in paying my credit card bill online last week, I had accidentally paid the amount available to spend, rather than the amount owing. Somehow I paid £4000-odd rather than £300-odd - without noticing!

I did try hard to work out how it could be the bank's mistake but really they wouldn't even have had those figures available, it must have been my fault. The bank apparently can't transfer money back again from a bill payment, though they could if it was direct debit or standing order. The credit card company will refund the excess, but it'll take up to 28 days to get a cheque sent out. I had charges for going overdrawn, and have had to pay another charge to arrange an extension to the overdraft so mortgage etc is all covered while I'm waiting for it all to be sorted out.

Thankfully I found out quickly, and the nice woman at the call centre cut my charges in half when I asked nicely, but it'll still cost me about £50 in charges and interest, argh!! I am normally v. efficient with money too. Is this the most ridiculous brain-fog related mistake - please tell me I'm not the only one doing silly things right now!!

sophiewd · 27/04/2008 14:54

Impressive

bitofadramaqueen · 27/04/2008 15:01

systemsaddict - what a shame!!!

Ridiculous that it'll still cost you £50 in charges though. I'd appeal in writing against them as it was an honest mistake and your previous good history, particularly if any of the charges are unauthorised overdraft fees etc.

OP posts:
systemsaddict · 27/04/2008 15:09

Thanks DQ, I might do that - if I get the headspace at any point in the next few weeks! I do feel an idiot though so it's kind of hard to justify asking for them to cancel the charges after I've done something that silly. I think I will go and pack my hospital bag to cheer me up!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/04/2008 15:13

You could quote some evidence that 'pregnancy related brain' is a bonafide condition .

Enjoy packing your hospital bag. I really want to do mine but must study. Must study. Must study. Right, internet connection being severed now!

OP posts:
Rolf · 27/04/2008 15:31

UDC - she's 2 - she'll be 3 in July. She's lovely but is more difficult than the boys put together. She is a terrible sleeper and fights and fights it, no matter how tired she is. She can climb out of her cot and over a stair gate so there is no way of physically restraining her. DH is out today with DS1 and I am bleary-eyed with exhaustion and so desperate for a nap. But when I tried to (hoped she'd get in with me and fall asleep too) she came into our room and started throwing things around. The boys slept through from 6 weeks so I guess I was due a crap sleeper but sometimes she behaves as though she has read every book on terrible twos.

sorry to rant, just having a shit day!

whinegums · 27/04/2008 16:32

Systemsaddict - that is a corker! But I think you have a much better reason to get the charges refunded than most people - you have made an honest mistake, you haven't deliberately gone overdrawn when you knew you didn't have money in the account. Just remind them about the bank charges judgement of this week - if you claimed based on that, they'd have to give you the money back! £50 is a lot of babygros after all (and/or a fair few bottles of wine!).

If it makes you feel better, I keep putting stuff in the wrong place - jars of coffee in the fridge, milk in the cupboard.

DQ - hope the studying is going well.

DP has suggested packing hospital bag already! Maybe he knows something I don't. Anyway, still need a few things, so can't pack it anyway.

Naps and extra 200 calories (at least) are now absolutely essential!

Upsidedowncake · 27/04/2008 16:56

Poor Rolf, do you think your DD feels unsettled by the imminent arrival or is it just her? DS will be three in November so they are about the same age. He is gorgeously charming except when:
(1) he is ill
(2) he is tired
(3) he is in a funny mood
(4) he is having a growth spurt
and then he turns into devil child. Just now (and I think it's this upset tummy), I stopped him from hitting me and said 'Hitting people is wrong. You know what happens to people who hit people.' Apparently he didn't - or needed to remind himself and ended up in Time-out yelling his head off in frustration. DH has taken him off the allotment now, so am going to put my feet up!

What a nightmare Systems addict. I hope they look kindly on you. Well done you though for being calm enough to get half the charges refunded as it is!

Rolf · 27/04/2008 17:46

Just her, I think. Most of the time she is great. She's become a well-known local figure as she is very "visible" in church and people are always coming up to me or my father and commenting on her latest exploits. She's just a very feisty individual, I guess. It keeps things interesting but not so much at 34 weeks pregnant! I agree that very often they are difficult when they are unwell or there's some kind of change/development going on. Although she's so young, I think she is ready for nursery - I'll get her doing a few hours in September.

SA - what a total pain for you.

debinaustria · 27/04/2008 21:38

Hi all

Sorry to hear about the banking disasters, stroppy 2 year olds, crampy pains, backward steps in toilet training(very common), revision etc etc...

Our friends came today for lunch and bought us a bouncy chair, play gym, musical thing for the cot with a remote control which Tristan loves, and a huge bag of boy clothes. I've always been a Tesco/Asda baby clothes shopper but these are mostly Next and Baby Gap so this little boy is quite spoilt already!!

I hope our baby is as contented as their 10 month old - she was just lovely. Both boys were very fussy with her especially when they made her laugh, Tristan had her on his knee and he was intrigued when he saw her Mum breastfeeding her. He said " Oh, you just pull your top up, I thought you'd have to take it off!"

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 27/04/2008 22:06

Dramaqueen - yeah I heard today that the stillbirth storyline in Corrie was going to be this week. I thought it was going to be a lot later on. If they do it well then I think it is valuable in terms of raising awareness - apparently she realises the baby isn't moving so much but doesn't get it checked out... but if she gets over it in about two weeks (which is what they usually do in soaps) then it will just really pee me off.

SA - nightmare about your credit card! That really is a case of pregnancy brain. The sort of thing I lie awake at night worrying that I have done.

Katyjo - yeah I like those programmes about childbirth. Both my twins are head down at mo so hopefully they will stay that way!

I have had a little look into stillbirth and feel more reassured now. Twins is a risk factor but actually what I am worried about is death in labour rather than anything going wrong beforehand. And death in labour really is rare. I am going to really concentrate on kick tests in the evenings from now on. Make sure I definitely get both twins 10 times in an hour. This is usually no problem as they are quite wriggly when I am sat down doing nothing. When I am busy it feels like they never kick but of course they do. Seeing MW weekly now so will hear HBs regularly too.

alipalli · 27/04/2008 22:18

Hi Everyone,

We've had a good weekend. Friends came to see us today and had a great lunch at a pub nearby. One of the group is 17 weeks pregnant. Talking to her reminded me how anxiety inducing each stage of pregnancy is. She kept on asking me what tips I had, it was weird to find that suddenly I was the expert in someone else's opinion.

We also made it to the hospital today for the tour of the maternity unit. I've never had a hospital stay before so whilst not phobic, am a bit anxious about it. It seemed fine, but then I have nothing to compare it to. Much to my surprise I am finding myself leaning towards a more natural approach, so I could well opt for delivery in one of the "home from home" suites if they are available. The mw who led the tour said that the home from home units are not very popular which really surprised me. Maybe going to NCT and reading around on MN has skewed my perspective on what most people want.

Has anyone else doing NCT got homework set for them? It's like being back at school!

poppy34 · 27/04/2008 22:19

Neenz - sounds like you are being quite sensible about dealing with stuff. can echo your worry re somethign going wrong in labour. Am now really confused re how much movements and when (baby is pretty predictable in her movements) - might ask doc when I see him this week to put my mind at rest.

And do you think it will be as long as 2 weeks to get over it - thats a long time in soap opera time?

poppy34 · 27/04/2008 22:21

hi allipalli -know what you mean re nct - its definitely made me feel more new age about stuff. And re being back at school with homework - I was so enthused even did it on the night (I was pleasantly surprise how much I enjoyed the day and liked the other people -having done hypno class which was pants I had very low expectations).

Have you got another class next week?

libralady · 28/04/2008 06:23

Off to see MW this afternoon to get my certificate to fly. Hopefully this time next week I'll be lying on a beach somewhere with a good book whist DH looks after (runs around) after DS. Can't wait.

Catch you later as have got to be in the office by 7am this morning.

Please try not to talk too much, some evenings it takes me over an hour to catch up on what's been happening during the day. Then I'm too tired to post as it's time for bed - ha ha. Not allowed to access non-essential websites at work so unfortunately that includes MN. The b*ds!

debinaustria · 28/04/2008 06:24

Good morning all and we're one week closer to those babies, I dreamt about my little baby boy last night.

How's everyone feeling? Did you all sleep OK? I just had my usual 3.45 wee wake up call and didn't take too long to get back to sleep so I'm feeling full of energy this morning. Must be the nesting instinct!!

debinaustria · 28/04/2008 06:26

Hey LL - you beat me to it by 1 minute - good luck with your mw appointment, hope you get your certificate so that you can go away next week.
