Morning all, had a lie in today until 8.00, am feeling so much better, off to make flowers for the May Day celebrations ???? Not sure what I'll be doing!! Wish me luck.

aberdeenhiker · 25/04/2008 07:57

morning, DS is feeling a bit better so I've packed him off to nursery and am back at work - it's much more stressful to stay home and know everything's piling up here!

About the poo - boys are funny that way! For a while my brother refused to even pee at school and would dash home desparate every chance he could to use the toilet. It took my mother a while to figure out what was going on.

dylansmumplusone · 25/04/2008 08:44

morning! anyone else find that 34 weeks is the magic number for your body to give up the ghost? i suddenly can't breathe at all (breathless trying to read to ds??) and my belly feels so heavy i just can't sleep at all because i'm so uncomfortable. on the bright side my SPD seems to have calmed down a fair bit!

i'm so excited about home birth but just wish it was only 1 week to go instead of 6!!

good luck with your flowers deb! let us know how they turn out.

glad to hear you're okay DQ. shame you had to go through all that just to find out though...

ktpie · 25/04/2008 08:57

DQ - how rubbish of your midwife waiting until she had finished to ring you back then refusing to see you. Glad everything was OK.

Debs - have fun doing the flowers!

LauraT · 25/04/2008 09:50

DQ sorry you had all that waiting about at the hospital! if you get scary eye things going on you do definately need to get your BP checked though, so although frustrating at least they did the right things!

whinegums have emailed you regarding saturday's rendez-vous finding each other will be fun, can't just look for the other pregnant woman! let me know what you think of the suggestion - otherwise I will get a red carnartion.

I'm sure you're all dying to know how the next installment of the most bizarre antenatal classes in the world ever went last night... sadly no neds this week but...

There was another video! this time about meningitis (not so entertaining) but starring Norman Pace of comedy duo Hale and Pace with additional accurate medical information from TV's Dr Hilary Jones. priceless. although a bit sad at the end.

We also got to meet a new Mum and her baby which was v cute.

Following this we went through to the physio to talk about birthing positions where I entirely disgraced myself by getting a horrendous fit of the giggles and being unable to stop laughing for about 10 minutes. Everytime I regained a modicum of composure I would catch the eye of another mum across the class and she would set me off again. This was initiated by the physio feeling the need to lie on the floor in a very undignified position and demonstrate the kind of noises that we might like to make to accompany pushing. I was crying with laughter! on the plus point my pelvic floor held up well to the strain so that's good!

alipalli · 25/04/2008 09:56

Dylan's mum - I am 34 weeks too. My body seems to switch between being as fine as can be expected, and then completely knackered.

Monday, Tuesday I felt great. On Wednesday I felt shattered and achey in the morning - this was fixed by a combination of danish pastry and banana as a second breakfast. Yesterday I was fine until about 6pm when SPD kicked back in again. Today I have a very cricked neck, presumably because I slept quite badly last night (rolling over was worse that usual because of the SPD).

Nevermind - I have my final spare day of holiday today before ML starts on Wednesday. Just at home chilling out considering what I would be doing if I wasn't feeling quite so useless.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/04/2008 10:06

Morning all! Feeling much better today, thankfully. Am taking the day off work though - the nice mw at the hospital said to take it easy with computers etc for a few days so no point being in the office! Have only turned home computer on to have quick check on MN .

LauraT your ante-natal classes sound much more entertaining than mine! Will look forward to regular updates. No neds at mine unfortunately but one tanorexic in neon pink. Nice.

Am now feeling a bit tempted to head west to the baby show tomorrow morning and do some shopping in Glasgow in the afternoon... Well, if computers likely to spark off a migraine then the same could be said for too much revision... Any Glasgow girls know which Gap/New Look/Next stores do maternity?

bitofadramaqueen · 25/04/2008 10:08

Oh, been to the dentist this morning. It was the first time at a new dentist. Firstly he told me I should use a medium toothbrush when everyone knows pregnant women should use a soft one... Then, we discussed that as I couldn't have my new patient x-rays that he would do them at my next 6 month check up. Now, I've needed lots of work over the last few years so I'd have been much happier if he'd asked me to come back and have x-rays after baby was born. Think I may look around for new dentist after I've had the baby.

On the plus side, nothing more than a scale and polish - hurrah!

LauraT · 25/04/2008 10:20

Not too sure which of those do mat wear DQ likely to be the Argyle street Gap I would think, if any, likewise for next. definately think you should stay of the revision for a wee while and rest your weary head though! in fact shopping will probably be good for it!

looneytune · 25/04/2008 10:32

Morning all

Thought I'd pop on very quickly whilst I have baby napping and other one playing nicely

Wish I had time to catch up but I don't think I've read anything from when this thread started til the last few messages so would probably take all weekend to catch up!

dramaq - that's awful that they clearly left you because people didn't know the situation, honestly, this happens far too often!! But pleased all went ok. Not surprised about the notes either although very naughty of them. I've had 2 visits to the hospital in the last 6ish weeks and the last one said on my notes 'reassured, given leaflet' after baby monitoring showed baby was ok. They didn't even state they'd checked my urine and this was very important as it had protein and something else showing so was sent to the lab (I've had many sent to the lab since March, long story!). Anyway, nothing surprises me about the NHS anymore.

Got my GP check this afternoon. Baby seemed more transvere last night but not sure if back to breach again, hopefully she'll be able to let me know. I must say, I'm planning on being there a while today as I want some answers to how the surgery and hospital have managed to mess me about like they have (long story, this thread explains). Basically, in short....I've had a nasty UTI for at least 5/6 weeks, one which is called a 'resistant organism' which means pretty much resistant to all the usual drugs. The only one I can really take that may cure it is one which is not normally prescribed in pregnancy due to risks to the baby. Problem is, Dr said my health is at such risk (high risk of renal failure if not treated asap) that I have no choice but to take that risk and have the tablets. I should have had this looked at 5/6 weeks ago but things have gone back and forth and I've complained of pain etc. and yet I was never actually treated til now.

Oh, typical, baby just woken up.

Sorry I can't check rest of messages to see what you've all been up to. Just wanted to say hi and hope you're all doing well

God, so much to sort out, getting closer now isn't it!!

Bye for now

LT x

needahand · 25/04/2008 11:21

dramaqueen I am glad you got checked out, my initial reaction would have been to think you had a pb with BP

KTpie for the tours, you can either ask you MW or call the hospital directly and ask when the next tour is

Josey sorry you had pbs with you DS. I hope it gets better soon

Ernest and GF good luck for your moves today. Fingers crossed that everything runs smoothly.

I have a scan today to check the baby's kidneys are ok. I hope he will be fine.

As for me I have had an eventful day yesterday and wed afternoon. First my GP seems to be reluctant to help me be referred to the hospital of my choice, she argue it wasn't necessary, that I could just turn up etc.. So I will have to do some more investigating and I guess will have to put a bit of a fight.

Yesterday I had an awful day. When I got to london they closed my tube station so to cut a long story short, I had to do a lot of walking (with SPD) and to stand for 40 mns to try and get a cab. Then when I got to the office, I realised that on top of the two deadlines which I had for Friday courtesy of my "sick" maternity cover, there were another two on that day and these ones where tenders so if you miss the dates, you are screwed. So I took one and my boss took the other. The whole sales department was panicking and I had about 2hs to draft a complete agreement. I finished just on time to step in my meeting with that roomful of lawyers and finished at 18.00. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO HAVE SOME LUNCH OR PEE!!!

Of course I hadn't been able to deal with the other two deadlines so today I started work at 7.30 and finished one at about 10/10.30 (and realised that what my maternity cover had done was of such poor quality that it is on the brink of unforgivable). 5 minutes later he sent me an e-mail saying he was about to e-mail me and he could take over the piece of work I had just finished (when he knew perfectly well I would have finished since the deadline was yesterday. I am sure now that I have done all the work he will offer to see it through.

I am so pissed of with him. AIU to think he is completely unprofessional? He was sick just the day where we had all these deadlines to cope with which we knew about weeks ago and he hadn't done anything and now he reappears as if nothing had happened! What would have happened if I hadn't been there to pick up the piece? That is 4 deadlines and clients we could have lost. The other thing that really annoys me too is that I offered to help him several times and he refused because he was too proud and instead though that if he put his head in the sand for long enough and just missed the day of the deadlines it will all go away (which it kind of did but still). If he has given that back to me, I could have done it properly without things being a last minute panic

Sorry long rant but I had to get it off my chest

bitofadramaqueen · 25/04/2008 11:28

needahand - sorry to hear about your rubbish day! Hope all well with baby's kidneys.

Your mat cover sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Not sure if you've mentioned what you do before, but do you think you can talk to your boss about him? If the cover is not up to the job it might be best to cut loose and replace? Obviously you wont have to worry about it once your mat leave starts, but apart from him being sick on such an important day it sounds like his work overall is not up to scratch.

OP posts:
needahand · 25/04/2008 11:33

Dramaqueen: I am a lawyer. I had already mentioned my impressions to my boss 2/3 weeks ago and had a chat with him yesterday after the long meeting. I told him I was concerned that my maternity cover was sinking and that instead of taking help from anyone he was waiting until the s..t hit the fan. My biggest concerns was that one of the things I had to take back one day before deadline was the first ever thing I gave my maternity cover to do...2 months ago when he didn't have anything to do. Problem is my boss is too busy to hold his hand as much as he would obvioulsy need and too busy to recruit someone else so he is a bit stuck. But as you said it is not my problem

whinegums · 25/04/2008 11:35

Morning all, DQ, I'm just in from the dentist (hygienist) as well. Your dentist sounds a bit scary.... Mine is going to give me new patient x-rays after the birth, and is going to replace some filings then too. But wisdom tooth has to go before hand - eek - have already got co-codamol at the ready for that. Also hygienist has prescribed me Corsodyl gel to use every night on my gums. I'm well named at the moment! But not as bad as yours I think Ernest, no long term problems anyway, hope you're getting on ok.

DQ, glad you're also taking a break from the studying. I can't find any mat wear in any Gap branch in the city centre. I haven't seen any in Next in Buchanan Galleries either, but I haven't looked in Argyle St. M&S Limited Collection mat wear available in Argyle St branch, and New Look have some in Buchanan Street. Also H&M have some in Buchanan Galleries (and some baby wear) - but to be honest, nowhere in the city centre has a great selection, although there is a Formes (haven't been in, think I'm too fat for their clothes!). Most I've seen is Next at Silverburn.

LauraT we are on for meet tomorrow then as you suggested, hopefully carnations not required!

Needahand, doesn't sound like you're being unreasonable, sounds like your mat cover is completely useless. I guess your boss is well aware of what happened? Try not to worry about it, hopefully your boss will take it in hand, can't imagine them being too happy about losing clients.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/04/2008 11:43

Cheers whinegums. The Gap in Edinburgh has mat stuff so will need to pop in there. Dont really want to get much now, but everything is starting to get a bit tight so on the lookout for some comfy lighterweight stuff for my month's leave before due date (and no doubt I'll need it for a while afterwards too). What time are you and Laura meeting at the baby show? Haven't definitely decided to go yet, but if I do wouldn't mind tagging on for a coffee or something if you're doing that?

Right - I really have to get off this computer, will check in later!

OP posts:
LauraT · 25/04/2008 11:45

whinegums see you tomorrow! I wonder how much completely useless tat we will be given on entering the SECC.. if it's anything like the wedding fair they have the answer is lots! mind you, they had a lot of chocolate fountains for tasting at that...

DQ re glasgow shops: I have succumbed to on line shopping for mat wear mostly, although the M and S stuff is pretty good and not too extortionate.

PiggyPenguin · 25/04/2008 11:47

Looneytune - that is awful! What a terrible position for you to be in, having to take a drug you aren't very happy about just because it has taken them so long to get their act together. I would be furious if I were you.

Needahand - your cover does sound dreadful, and its awful that you are doing so much to cover for him at a time when you should be slowing down but I think you have to accept that you have done as much as you can. Now it is up to your boss to sort to out, if nothing else at least they will appreciate just how good at your job you are.

whinegums · 25/04/2008 11:56

DQ - yes of course. We're planning to meet about 11.30. If you CAT me, I'll email you my mobile number.

Laura, I hope they have chocolate, Green & Blacks should have a stall, haven't they read about how important it is for us pregnant ladies to stuff our faces make sure we eat chocolate to avoid pre-eclampsia???!! I suspect it will be more tat though...

looneytune · 25/04/2008 12:13

sybilvimes - in fairness, I think I had this strain all along but the thing that got me is the boss man at the surgery phoning me out of the blue and basically talking about the urgency of dealing with it. I'm now worried about what other damage could have been caused when it wasn't necessary. And no f'ing wonder I've been feeling so awful. I'm VERY p'd off with the Dr who dismissed me saying I had pains that felt like UTI 6 weeks ago! I just put all the pain down to being pregnancy related as darent mention it again. It was only thanks to the pain being so bad at the weekend, feeling like continuous labour contraction that I went to hospital and the latest sample result got the attention of the boss Dr. I want answers!! (we're talking 4/5 samples all coming back with problems yet them not being clear with me or prescribing me anything).

sorry, went on a bit!! But yes, I'm not happy about risks to baby but then again, the risk of not dealing with the problem is risk for baby anyway. I was in turmoil Wed and yesterday morning until I knew that I had no choice.

whinegums - not heard that before, best go and buy a BIG bar of chocolate then

needahand - you don't need this stress, not your problem but I'd be p'd off too!!

debinaustria · 25/04/2008 12:39

Dylansmum - yes I think 34 weeks is the breaking point - I feel so huge even though people say I'm not, apparently I'm all out front, knackered after walking too far or standing too much, had to start ironing sitting down.

Laura - impressed by your pelvic floor holding out with all that laughing

Dramaqueen - I think shopping would be much better for you than revision

Looney - sorry to hear you've been having a rough time of it all.

Needahand - your maternity cover sounds crap - just think how pleased they will be to see you when you return(if you return).
How's the scan gone?

Enjoy the baby show girls - I went to a wedding one but never a baby one - do you think the aisles will be extra wide, with lots of comfortable chairs, extra toilets and free creme eggs?

debinaustria · 25/04/2008 12:48

OK - Making flowers the Austrian way

1st of all no-one had mentioned that the flowers had been ,made the other week and this was just a coffee morning, so I went empty handed.

I'd had a big bowl of porridge just before I went and when I got there at 9.00 the table was all set for Breakfast - bread, hams, cheeses, jam, butter, coffee, water, boiled eggs - the works, and weirdly, bottles of aptimel type stuff and tubes of vitamin tablets to add to your water etc... so all very healthy, until breakfast finished and 3 of them started smoking AArgh. I coughed as much as I could but they just didn't get the hint. Smoking here is like it was in my Grandparents day in the UK - the norm, for people to smoke everywhere and anywhere. So, now I smell awful and I can almost taste the smoke , going to get a shower and throw all my clothes in the wash.

So, smoking continued, more coffee was made, then the hostess appeared with a bottle of fizz - prosecco, it was 10.30 am so I had a little with orange, then the cakes appeared, and so it went on...and on...

My understanding of German is OK but they spoke such fast dialect, I got the gist of what they were talking about but always seemed to miss the punchline in each story, my head's spinning with it all.

So, another strange day in Austria!!!!!

sophiewd · 25/04/2008 14:01

Deb - very interesting morning you have had!. Now being an ex smoker (smug emotion) no how you feel, can smell people a mile away, thank the lord smoking has ben banned in pubs (has also made it easier to give up).

Now a question for thos who have had one or more before. Went to get DD from nursery this morning, haven't been there for a while, and one of the staff siad that my bump had really dropped and not convinced I am going to last another 8 weeks, don't remember DD dropping this early, how long before birth did any of yours drop? Can't have this one before 6th June as fully booked with B&B's during half term week.

Upsidedowncake · 25/04/2008 14:19

Hi everyone

Looney - what a nightmare! I hope this gets sorted out for you.

DQ - am dumbfounded at the 'service' you received. What if you had been really ill?

Needahand - your mat cover sounds a nightmare! How much longer have you got? As others have said, it's not 'your problem', but that's very hard to accept (and doubly-frustrating) when you're used to being conscientious and trying to do a good job.

Scottish babyshow ladies - look out for the BabyGROE stall - an Edinburgh-based charity acting an an information and advice service on green parenting. They are UK-wide and their website is here (I did some work for them through DEFRA a couple of years ago)

Rolf, thanks so much for offering to send me copies of the hypnotherapy stuff. That was really sweet of you. I already have the Mongan book and am going to see a hypnotherapist for a one-off session next week.

Sophie, I wouldn't worry about people saying the bump dropping. They may not know what they're talking about!

Had doctor's appointment this morning and both BP and urine were fine. I am so relieved. She now thinks the baby is slightly large for dates - what with all the lying around I've been doing, so PHEW! Our dinner with DH's boss was OK last night, and DH is presenting his business plan this afternoon. Thanks for all your support over the last few days, everyone.

debinaustria · 25/04/2008 14:27

Sophie, I feel like my bump has dropped too, certainly not getting the indigestion I was, but no idea from before how long before the birth this happened - sorry

Upsidedown, glad things are calming down for you

whinegums · 25/04/2008 14:37

Deb, sounds like a fun morning!

Upsidedown, will look out for BabyGROE - think I got their magazine in a Bounty bag already.

Ladies, what's your thoughts on birth plans? I know some people say don't even bother with them, just keep an open mind, etc. I started one - it's really just a list of what I do and don't want (in the ideal world of course!) but I don't want to come over as being one of the 'middle class know it all mothers' that mws appear to hate!
