Morning
I cant believe how many posts there has been this morning....then again I dont know why Im suprised maybe it was just at how early you all got on here.

Debs try some salt in an old pillow and ping it in the microwave the heat really helps.

Ernest will sent you lots of possitive vibes for 5.30 really hope it sells....what a shame for the little girl next door it explaines why the guy was so grumpy with you though.

welcome mistermoo im also on 3rd and planning a homebirth

feeling sick at the loo stories, never had to go to the toilet during labour before so never though that there was no loo in the room before....warning for you all it gets more stomach churning when you end up in the ward with 1 shower and 1 toilet between 6 of you...ok im going to shut up as breakfast is making a comeback.

Had anti natal last night midwife was good fun had the HV in as well and her hour was a bit on the dull side...it turns out though I have a neighbour 5doors down due on the 1st and on the other side of the road 4 doors down due on the 4th....hoping will get a better chat next week as it will just be the women and as my DH was away and they all had partners I felt I should sit and twiddle my too tight wedding ring

oh well must try and talk myself into moving before my bum stays firmly fixed on the chair

josey · 22/04/2008 10:18

oops debs meant pillow case

debinaustria · 22/04/2008 10:20

Hello all, I've just woken up, thanks for all the sympathy. I still feel a bit of a fraud when there are those of you suffering with SPD.
Earache is intermittent now, I've tried those Kalvol drops in steaming water, and they help but OMG it makes your eyes sting if you forget to close them!!

Ernest best of luck for today, great news about the developers using your house though , fingers crossed for you.

Greenfairy - good luck with your move on Friday

Everyone else - hope you get through today without too many bouts of tiredness. I get knackered doing the Kindergarten pick up now and it's only about a 5-10 minute walk, but we do live at high altitude - about 3000 feet so I think that can be my excuse for the puffing and panting I do en route.

debinaustria · 22/04/2008 10:24

Thanks for the remedies Paro and Josey, dh bought me one of those teddy bears for Christmas that has lavender in and you can heat up in the microwave so he has been getting lots of use, didn't know salt would do the same thing.

needahand · 22/04/2008 10:26

We do chat too much! I cannot keep up.

Debs well done for the pram then, I am in awe at your ability. Don't feel like a fraud, earache is do debilitating. It is very painful, affects your balance etc

Ernest good luck with the move and the viewings

GF good luck with the move too. 7 days for me too.

Yeepee, can't wait I am so shattered. I had to walk DD to nursery today (35mn walk) which is no mean feast with my SPD. I am completely knackered now and in a bit of pain. I thought I was actually going to pass out before I reached the nursery. One of her teachers saw me and said to DD "perhaps you should have put mummy in the pram and pushed her today"....And I have to do the same tonight to collect her...Also have MW today hopefully she will have my test results

aberdeenhiker · 22/04/2008 10:27

ernest - crossing my fingers about your house! you are a star for coping with so much while pregnant - I'm barely dragging myself through ordinary life these days.

as for the horror bathroom stories - as a contrast, all the bathrooms I used in the hospital for DS were acceptably clean. I didn't see blood anywhere (except for coming out of myself, and I cleaned that up!) so I'm hoping that'll be my experience again. Hospitals are short staffed so I guess if another mum doesn't clean up after herself things could get bad for a while, but fingers crossed it'll be okay for all of us!

LauraT · 22/04/2008 10:27

whinegums oh thank you that's fantastic. I shall figure out how to CAT you and do so!

v jealous of 14 months off... I think I'm going to go back at beginning of Feb as otherwise will be training forever (can you tell I work for the NHS?!). somehow I thought exams would finish after university... several years, exams and lots of money later I've still got another 7 to go!

I have 26 days left at work after today and some of those are half 'teaching' days which means I get to leave Kilmarnock at lunchtime and go back to Glasgow to be educated!

debinaustria · 22/04/2008 10:36

Thanks Needahand - good luck with your move too, don't know how you do 35 minutes walk with spd

Upsidedowncake · 22/04/2008 10:37

Good morning!

Welcome Mistermoo.

Ernest, you are completely amazing and I'm chuffed to bits for you that you will have someone showing people round your house after you move. You have such a lot to do, I hope it's OK.

Debs, sorry you're still not well.

Rolf, I think Jemima is a gorgeous name. Do you call her anything for short?

Greenfairy, good luck with your move as well. Great that you have access to house already.

G43, Matilda is lovely. It's my niece's name - she lives in Peru and is called Mati for short.

Yay, no socks today. I have had terrible contact excema so am delighted it's warmer now.

I now have cold / sinusitis / earache too (fifth time this pregnancy!). My last pregnancy was such a breeze and now, between BP, excema and earache, I feel like I'm falling apart. Spoke to the doula last night who is going to help me feel more positive about the pregnancy (excited about the arrival of baby but not about 77 more days until 42 weeks!). She's such a lovely lady.

whinegums · 22/04/2008 10:38

No worries Laura! Sorry, can't help but be chuffed at my baby gap year and a bit! Couldn't bear to be still doing exams any more - respect!

Actually, can I ask you a doc question? I have to have a wisdom tooth out soon, and I'm a big wuss - can I take something stronger than paracetamol? I checked out cocodamol, but can't find an answer. I also have some codrydamol (sp?) in the house - can I take that?

Paro, your olive oil and garlic remedy sounds interesting, or at least something you can serve with pasta

PregnantPenguin · 22/04/2008 10:39

Thank you all for the Neducation everyone. V. v. funny.

  • Welcome Mistermoo. I'm 5'2'' as well - not sure there's much room left in there, can't grow up or down so just growing out...
  • Well done with the pushchair Deb! Looks great. Hope your earache is a bit better.
  • Rolf - You must be a great Mum, you are unbelievably patient!
  • LOL Ernest, at least your place looked like a real family house! {wink] Horrid news about your neighbours.
  • Sybil, I agree. My legs are so pale they're a shade of grey...gave up on tights as they're too hard to put on, have been wearing leggings with knee high boots (hides the swollen ankles too). But the legs are gonna have to come out soon. How I am going to rub in fake tan to avoid streaks, esp roound those cankles, I have no idea...

No en-suites that I've seen at my hosp either. And have been advised to take dettol wipes in with me.

On a postive note, went to my first antenatal class at the hosp yesterday and it was really good. Even if I was the only one without their OH....I don't care that it's 1.30 - 3.30pm, DH is coming next week! Actually, he's not very good at speaking out, and if I'm in labour I want him to feel very confident about saying 'we want this or we don't want that' so think he prob needs to be there anyway.

Got this morning off so gonna try a preg yoga dvd now. Think the hardest part is going to be putting the dvd in the player which is on the floor. If you don't hear from me for a few days, just assume I'm still down there because I couldn't get back up again....

debinaustria · 22/04/2008 10:41

Sorry upsidedown, didn't realise I could pass my germs over the net, I'll find a mask to wear whilst on the computer , hope yours goes quickly.

LauraT · 22/04/2008 10:53

whinegums had a quick look on-line -evidence appears to be divided on co-codamol, probably fine, but a risk balance ratio, I..an opioid based analgesic which is the same family as morphine which they give willy-nilly during labour! my advice would be (as always!) to ask the pharmacist in Boots or the like as they have up to date info on what's contraindicated.

Pretty sure a couple of the ladies on here have mentioned being on co-codamol for SPD is that right ladies?

I don't work with pregnant ladies so I always check in books etc before prescribing anything, for myself or anyone else!

nettiehay · 22/04/2008 11:01

PP and Mistermoo - I'm also 5'2" - so going straight out... not a nice sight from the side!

We also put our pushchair together last night - DP kept getting cross at me and wouldn't let me do anything (except hand him the parts), so I have the opposite of Deb's DH.

Apparently there are 4 labour suites in the widwife unit at Kingston Hosp - all with pools and ensuite - but they are first come first served... if they are full up you are on the normal labour ward... but they no longer allow visits, so I have no idea how many loos there are... I've packed anti-bac wipes just in case.

We received the first parcel of nappies this morning before work - they are huge! I know they said thye look big on a new born, but if this baby isn't at least 7 1/2 lbs I can't imagine them fitting at all... maybe disposables until Bug grows a bit (this is me being positive that I will have a small 6lb, perfectly formed baby with a small head ... ostrich...head...sand...anyone?)

needahand · 22/04/2008 11:07

Debs thanks but I don't think I am moving...at least not yet. Re walk with SPD it is quite simple: I cannot drive. If I take a cab with DD I have to carry the really heavy car seat put it in place then lift DD put her in it, then extract DD then extract seat, which basically displaces my pelvis. It is far worse than walking DD and then taking a cab home although I don't know how I'll do that much longer as I litteraly thought I would pass out with pain today. I think maybe I should buy her a booster seat. Are they meant to be lighter? She is quite tall so I think it might be ok to be used occasionally.

I am amazed at all of you thinking of spray tan. I don't think I could reach my ankles

I am not taking codamol, but I remember the doctor saying to me that if I couldn't bear the pain and needed something stronger than paracetamol he would prescribed me codeine

mellymell · 22/04/2008 11:17

Just a quick query - does anyone have an effective birthing natal hypnotherapy CD (for hospital / home birth) I can buy off them - will give a good price - but keep getting gazumped on ebay. Suppose I could stop being lazy and just buy it off Amazon, but would rather give the money to someone I 'know' on MN.

PiggyPenguin · 22/04/2008 11:34

Needahand - I sympathise with the walking and passing out, although mine is due to low iron levels and low blood pressure rather than pain so I think you have it worse.

I couldn't drive when I had my ds, so I also know what a pain the whole lugging car seats around can be. I actually learnt when pg with dc2 after my first child needed to get to a doctors appointment and the taxi failed to show up. I do hate driving, but it is such a relief to be able to do essential short trips. Mind you, I do still vividly remember crying before each lesson and am so glad I will never have to do that again!

Re the whole white legs/tanning, there is no way I can do this myself either. It will be another job for dh I'm afraid, so a non-streaky one is going to be essential!

needahand · 22/04/2008 11:44

sybil I am planning on taking lessons after DS is born. But last time I tried I was so stressed I had panic attacks. But I know it would make my like so much easier if I could drive.

don't know if I would trust my DH with faketan!!

debinaustria · 22/04/2008 12:08

I couldn't be bothered with the whole fake tan stuff, my Dad came to stay last summer and we went swimming, I glanced at his legs and his ankles were white where he'd missed bits, but his palms were a lovely shade of orange where he hadn't washed it off quickly enough.LOL

thegreenfairy · 22/04/2008 12:16

mellymel Email me to discuss hypno CDs if you like - roseedotbrownatgmaildotcom
I've got the home birth one and the birth music one and you can have them both if you like.

aberdeenhiker · 22/04/2008 12:22

needahand - oh! I am still walking everywhere with DS (I can drive, but normally don't have access to the car) and even without SPD it's getting very tiring! Yesterday I had to sit on a bench with him for a 20 minute break half way up a hill. And I agree that taxis are more hassle than they're worth - we didn't own a car when we had DS and it was a nightmare sometimes to try to get places. Anyways, sending you hugs!

whinegums · 22/04/2008 12:23

Thanks Laura and needahand for painkiller advice. I know a tooth extraction is not very much compared to what some of the others on this board are going through - and if I can't cope with that, how am I going to get the baby out?

On a lighter note, I see that we all MUST eat chocolate to avoid pre-eclampsia. Five times a week seems to be the minimum, so make sure you all get yours!

needahand · 22/04/2008 12:29

Thanks for the hugs all, really appreciated. I am sorry I am such a ranting cow.

Whinegums I didn't know you are supposed to each chocolate to avoid pre-eclampsia. However I will eat you (or a bag of you) during labour as apparenlty whinegums are very good for quick energy release!! Beware and stay away from me .

Childbirth and toothache are nothing alike. Don't forget you get breaks in between contractions and you get a baby at the end of it whereas with a toothache you only get a filling. Not quite the same carrot factor!

needahand · 22/04/2008 12:30

mellymell I have the pregnancy relaxation one but have lent it to a friend. Don't have much hope of getting it back within the next 4 weeks, but if I do and you still haven't managed to get all your CD let me know and I will lend it to you.

goingfor3 · 22/04/2008 12:48

whinegums I would much rather have labour pains than a toothache, hope it gets sorted soon.

I also have to walk everywhere as I don't drive. The school/nursery runs amount to about 2.5 miles per day, that doesn't take into account any walk I have to make to the shops and ballet twice a week. Explains why I sleep so well!
