welcome to star are you hoping for a boy or a girl? has your pregnancy been straight forward so far? sorry for all the questions just trying to make you feel at home!

rosebury · 31/05/2008 11:39

Morning ladies what a beautiful day here in Bristol so nice to feel the sunshine.

Special welcome to star hope you find this thread interesting.

Emmsy1 you have been chatty first of all only 11 thousand left on your mortgage wow most of us owe more than that on credit cards let alone the mortgage and to top it all you had big boobs and had them reduced (jealous of what).

07 I am 22wks now and because of the families help it is the kick start to getting organised albeit slowly. I love shopping but being pregnant does make it more difficult but you and emmsy1 have a long way to go to be feeling down about clothes I mix and match large sizes and maternity wear to get the best look eg flared maternity skirt with tight style large size t shirt because you cannot wear a whole outfit that is flared as it is not complimentary to our shape.

07 is there much maternity wear at the Mall I have not been up there for ages I love popping in to longwell green as it has new look dot perkins and asda it is better than broadmead. Good luck with your scan a week on Tuesday are you going to Southmead.

CSWS rant away if i had to visit hospitals like you are having to I think I would be round the bend, I hate the amount of timewasting both theirs and ours but especially mine I detest the feeling of being on a production line and seeing docs who have no bloody idea what they are talking about. Rant away girl.

SmudgeyDoodle · 31/05/2008 12:42

Afternoon ladies and hello to the newbies. I can't believe how many of us are due in October - there's going to be a rush on school places!!!
All fine here although I've got a really stuffy head. Have been trying to work out what best to do for getting DS a big boy bed. Do we get one from ebay for about £10 and buy a new mattress if needed, or do we get one (which we like better) from Ikea for about £100 including mattress? Decisions, decisions!
Glad scans have been ok. Rubbish about hospital appointment CSWS, hope you see better person next time.
Off to have some lunch in peace before DS wakes up. Have a sunny day everyone

Lozza70 · 31/05/2008 16:04

Just back from a hellish time trying to shop for our hols at Bluewater. Loads of shops but few of them selling what I had wanted to buy! All I wanted was a couple of summer skirts and a dress but all the maternity wear seems to be trousers and three quarter lengths. Now planning to not go out in public a lot on hols as 2 bikini's and a sarong will not get me far

star6 · 31/05/2008 18:09

Thanks Emmsy1! I'm hoping for a boy I teach 5-7 year olds (in surrey but not in a british school)... I've been teaching for almost 8 years and have definitely experienced that boys are much easier to handle than girls!! Not that anything is easy... anyway, we'll be happy either way - we will find out on Friday - so soon!!!
Everyone else thinks I'm having a girl... horrid "morning" (all day) sickness the first 16 weeks or so.
Pregnancy pretty straightforward so far. I'm learning a lot on MN pregnancy threads... first time being pregnant and there's so much to know!!
Thanks for the warm welcome

bethoo · 31/05/2008 18:40

made a fata lerror of watching a home birth on the discovery health channel thinking i would watch and relate! i was f* horrified! and youi would not think that i had actually done it before! could not believe that is what happens to our ladies parts! i refused to look or even touch when ds was crowniing! so word of advice, dont watch!

talking about weight gain, it seems to have accumulated around my back so it hangs either side of my straps! may need bigger bras!

welcome Star glad your pregnancy is going well.

star I will find out what sex baby is on the 9th June, I'm hoping for a girl. I admire all teachers, think you are all very brave!
rosebury we unfortunately owe more to credit card companys and catalogues etc...
keep getting loans to consolidate and end up in the same boat! we only have one wage coming in at the moment,(which isn't very good, unless DH works lots of overtime, which isn't always available) things should improve next year as my career break comes to an end and I am due to return to work at the end of June 09!

pepperrabbit · 31/05/2008 20:37

welcome star!
bethoo - i'm right there with you with no wish at all to see what goes on down there when giving birth! All that "would you like a mirror?" NOOOOOOO, I'd like an epidural at about 8 months!
I watched the Discovery channel addictively when PG with DS1 and it was bugger all use when I gave birth.. Don't have Sky anymore which DH thinks is a blessed relief

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/05/2008 20:57

Welcome star6. I've added you to the stats so you'll appear on the next update .

Emmsy - if only we knew how much the loft conversion would cost, we might have actually started it . We're having lots of other stuff done at the same time (new conservatory, changing roof and doors of old breakfast room/conservatory, resurfacing drive, refencing front garden etc), so prob won't get a separate cost for it, but their initial ball park figure for the loft was about £35k.

I have to go to joint obstetric/diabetic clinic because I've developed gestational diabetes, and it has to be really tightly controlled.

Evening Ladies (Welcome to Star6 and TGWTMH)

Poor ds has Chicken pox - saw the spots (like insect bites) all over his torso today - he has been really off colour for a couple of days and has been waking up at night with mad dreams about fires and insects!

DD will be next of course. I haven't been feeling too clever either - but I am putting that down to disturbed nights - my mum of course can't remember if I have had chicken pox or not but it seems unlikely that I haven't iykwim. I hope.

Will ring midwife on monday for her opinion, already had the slapped cheek scare so might as well go through this as well

Just looking at ds makes me itch though.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 31/05/2008 21:18

Btw - I can't remember how many others on this thread are planning (or have had) a homebirth - I have with dd and am looking forward to getting the birthpool out again - and am considering staying in to deliver this time. Today though I was thinking about making a mix cd to listen too - what music is good to birth too - any suggestions.

Last time I was in labour over night so just had crap tv on and was worried about waking ds.

bethoo · 31/05/2008 22:51

well i have another 18 weeks to throw my name suggestions at you so how about Morgan?

still tormented with the image of a lady on her knees leaning against the sofa with a head hanging out upside down like something out of a horror movie! not a sound it made, jsut staring! bizarre! sorry if TMI!

my little lady is most active in a mornign when i can feel her if i put my hands on my tummy!

hope everyone is well.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 31/05/2008 23:10

TBH I am amazed dh came near me again after witnessing births 1 and 2 - he was not expecting to have to through it again - but here we are

I have said to stay at the head end this time if he prefers - though apparently last time with dd I bit him really hard on the knee. I have difficulty feeling sorry for him as I was in the middle of a drug free birth!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 31/05/2008 23:11

Morgan is lovely btw - are you Welsh Bethoo?

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2008 06:51

Hope the chickenpox doesn't last long bigmouth, and that you have had it before. Dh had it in January (I wouldn't be on this thread if he hadn't ), hich came as somewhat of a surprise, as he thought he must have had it before too.

bethoo - Morgan is nice, but the only one I've ever known in RL was a Scottish man, so I will always think of it as a boys name. You obviously have a thing for unisex names!

OP posts:
Emmsy1 · 01/06/2008 06:56

CSWS Think I will postpone the idea re:loft conversion, just don't need the stress of getting into more debt at the moment
I knew you had developed GD just didn't realised that it affects the joints. (there's a very good chance that I have rheumatoid arthritis, started symptoms 18 months ago, and sister has been diagnosed with it,she has to take methotrexate. If the pain gets really bad, I will push for a diagnosis after the baby is born)Thought you had something similar!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2008 07:11

Ah, I'm with you Emmsy - different use of the word joint!

OP posts:
bethoo · 01/06/2008 08:45

bigmouth i am everything but Welsh!i know ther is irish anD scottish in there somewhere
i do like unisex names.

star6 · 01/06/2008 09:30

bethoo - I've never had a baby before and watched those shows on a school holiday every morning about a month ago. yeah, bad decision. Still having horrible dreams from that. I'm with you - we should not watch them. We now watch the "bringing home baby" show together... much more gentle and usually no horrific birth footage.
I'm scared to death of giving birth. Already decided I will opt for epidural. But that's a long way from where I started. When I first found out I was pregnant, I pleaded the dr to back my decision for an elective c section. I've now realized that this is not the best option. I learned about "tearing" on another thread the other day - Horrifying!!!!!!!!!!

sambrads · 01/06/2008 12:05

star6 dont panic about the birth everything will work out ok .

i said i wanted an epidural but ended up going natural with just gas and air and i will be doing this one the same

you will be surprised just how brave you actually are

as for tearing everyone is different but if you listen to your body and the midwife you will be ok.
there is more chance of getting stitches if you have an epidural.

07mumstheword · 01/06/2008 12:42

Rosebury The Mall is ok for maternity clothes but Longwell Green is the best as Dorothy P and New Look are there and then I top up with my next catalogue which you can have the goods delivered free to the store for collection I avoid Broadmead unless I really have to go to a specific shop, the parking etc is a nightmare. It might get better though when all the building work is complete. Yes I'm off to Southmead for my scan will you be at Southmead or are you having a home birth?

I'm trying not to think about the birth yet, I'm seeing a consultant when I have my scan due to a complicated labour last time so I will wait and see what he says....then I will worry!

CSWS What a waste of time for you. I love the fact you ignored that doctor and did what you feel is right for you.

Bigmouth I had to phone MW to ask about chickenpox in PG as I'd been in contact with a toddler with it. She told me that so long as I'd had chickenpox myself then I'd be immune. I hope your DS get better soon.

I've gone on a bit already so hi to everyone and hope you're enjoying your weekends.

accessorizequeen · 01/06/2008 15:04

welcome star6, I think I posted on your returning to work thread. Are you in the Uk, I got a bit confused!

re; watching births i've had both emergency section and vbac - neither would I want to watch!! Esp not the crowning, you must be joking.

csws, you must be really frustrated with hospitals et al what a waste of your time!

we've talked of maternity wear and buggies what about cloth nappies? I started using them with ds2 and hope to continue with the twins although not all 3 at once! Anyone interested?

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2008 15:14

Accessorize - I used fluffles and bamboozles with dd religiously for the first few months, but switched to disposables when I was desperately trying to find the cause of her horrendous nappy rash (cause was milk intolerance), and never really switched back full time. I've used them occasionally since, and bought 2 more at the end of last year (the names of them will come to be soon!). I will hopefully use them again (for longer, but not necessarily all the time) this time, to help cover their initial cost. I am good friends with flame after all, and her enthusiasm can be catching!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 01/06/2008 15:25

Hello, thank you for good wishes re. ds chicken pox - he is ok - dosed up with piriton - a bit on edge still - and prone to tears but he will live. Dd will be next of course.

Accesorisequeen - I use cloth for dd - mainly pocket style as getting a nappy on her retreating bottom whilst she runs off is impossible if it involves to much layering!

Am starting toilet training as it would be nice to just have the new baby in nappies by Oct. I will need to get some more in smaller sizes though. So bit of cloth shopping to do.
