this is what is so great about MN, i come on here and discover that loads of you are feeling the same way that I am!

I have a MW appointment this afternoon and am considering asking to hear the heartbeat. I am 14+5 and have a retroverted uterus (not sure when it moves forward) so i fear i may be setting myself up for disappointment... just really want to know that it is all still going ok.

the vivd dreams continue and last night's was good for a change.. all about looking after a newborn.

caramelbunny · 14/04/2008 10:59

hansnava I think what you're feeling is very common. Had my 12 week scan last week and was terrified there would be no heart beat. Had missed mc with first pg so have experienced that awful moment in the scanning room. When the baby came up on the screen I couldn't see it moving then she pointed out the heart beating and I just started crying, dh didn't know what was wrong but I'd got myself in a bit of a state. Chances are good by this stage that things will be ok but the waiting is awful, will be thinking of you.

Sambrads I know what you mean, you go from worring about early mc to wondering if anything will go wrong before next scan. I guess that you have to believe that everything's fine as you'd go mad tormenting yourself otherwise.

DD has chicken pox so not at work and dh and I facing a week juggling work schedules to look after her. It seems to be one illness after another with the poor child but guess it's better to get them over with now.

SmudgeyDoodle · 14/04/2008 13:10

CSWS, hope little sleepers nursery time went well. What did you manage to do with yourself? A nice rest and a cuppa, shopping? I bet it's more likely to be housework
Caramelbunny poor DD. Has she got it bad? It's awful when they are poorly and you can't even go out for a bit of sanity. Hope she's soon better.
KSal - any success? I think I'm going to be about 16 weeks before I even see my MW. Things a bit behind schedule here!
Flum I like your DD description of the baby!
DS asleep so I know I should really do some ironing (Sparklesandnowine, DH made a valiant attempt for 45 mins and managed a pair of trousers and 2 shirts!!) but I really don't fancy it. Perhaps it's my duty to inform myself of other exciting MN topics. Off for a browse!

KSal · 14/04/2008 15:48

Hi just back from midwife appointment and heard the heartbeat, which has made me feel a whole lot better! Means i can have little more faith that my body is continuing to do its job!

rowanmac · 14/04/2008 17:37

Hello
thank-you for good thoughts all helps. Good news I have a snoozing bean rather than a bouncing bean, lots of lovely piccies. So almighty amounts of relief all round. I've probably undone all good though as I had a drink when I got in, straight to hell for me.
The downside was the tests I had done last week were in the wrong tubes so have to be repeated, also I was in low risk midwife clinic where conversation went something like Oh I see you had polyhydramnios last time, Oh and a pre term delivery and Oh you were admitted with high blood pressure Oh you're in the wrong clinic come back next month! I'm not too upset, slacker that I am, its another afternoon off work.

as for the sex of baby don't know for sure but have bet DH an ice cream its a girl this time.

Donada · 14/04/2008 18:26

Hello all,

I'm due to have my baby mid Oct. Had nuchal scan plus triple bloods and results came back as low risk. (Did post another thread on Sat after geting results). However, still got a dilemma with the biochemistry (bloods) part of the test as this came back as a 1:201 chance of trisomy 21, the midwife has assured me that the purpose of these screening tests is to read as a combined test which gives a 1:1080 and not individual so I am nearly comforted by her words! Cant believe that I am becoming irrational and considering an amnio with 1:250 odds of MC with such low risk!! What is wrong with me eh!?!?!?

bethoo · 14/04/2008 18:32

Donado welcome and sorry to hear about your dilema. i think that you have to think that is it worth the risk and iknow it is a sensitive subject for some but it is only a choice that you and your dp can make. it is a tough decision. and what the mw says does sound encouraging.

rosebury · 14/04/2008 19:27

Evening ladies Rowan mac what a relief for you I have been thinking of you this weekend how are you now didnt you have swellings and quite high bp.

Hello to everyone I have to go now but hope to pop back later.

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2008 20:58

First day at school was a success. She had one change of clothes whilst she was there after playing with water, and her second set were filthy, so think I'll be doing a lot of washing! Smudgey - you were largely right - housework and watched last night's Desperate Housewives .

Welcome Donada. Is trisomy 21 Edward's Syndrome?

Yay for news from rowanmac and KSal.

Donada, sorry to hear about your results, they are in the bit of the no mans land for decisions, not very high and not very low. Prior to my nuchal I had decided on 1:300 to go on further. They came back as 1:2 so I had a CVS the next day (thankfully all clear). One recommendation if you are still below 14 weeks (not sure if this is the correct dates) is to go to the Fetal Medicine Centre in London. It costs but the Professor Nikoladies (?) who does the CVS is the expert in field and has a miniscule miscarriage rate (supposedly it is all down to technique). I didn't want to risk having a trainee NHS doctor stabbing about on me so decided to pay.

beakas · 15/04/2008 10:44

hello, am a new girl and finding this site addictive! My first baby due on the 10 October and am so excited I am exhasuting myself! Haven't told my bosses yet although my paranoia is making me think everyone around me thinks I have been attacking the biscuit tin. Weird question- why do my trousers start off loose in the morning and need un- buttoning come 7pm? (before tea!) is that normal?

caramelbunny · 15/04/2008 11:18

Don't think she has it too bad thanks Smudgey but is irritable and hard work as we can't go anywhere. Even walking with her in the buggy yesterday people were giving me a wide berth, felt like I should be ringing a bell and shouting 'unclean'!

Glad for heartbeat KSal and good scan rowanmac, what a relief.

Sorry about you dilemma Donada, I have gone for the ostrich approach and not having nuchal or triple tests. It is a difficult choice but the odds are massively in favour of everthing being fine for you.

Glad school was ok CSWS.

Welcome and congrats beakas. Yes my belly gets bigger during the day, think it's quite normal.

beakas · 15/04/2008 12:00

Thanks Caramelbunny, thats a relief, bring on the 20 week scan!

loulou33 · 15/04/2008 13:37

I'm really confused about these blood tests. Mine are not until next week as mw told me (and the same with last pg) that you have to be at least 16 weeks before they do them otherwise not accurate [hmmm] ....I wanted them asap if need to make difficult decision - how come others have already had bloods taken and results at less than 16 weeks? Will be very cross if mw has been making me wait for no reason i bet my nhs area is just using out of date info about needing to be 16 weeks or more grrrrr

loulou33 · 15/04/2008 13:39

btw - csws trisomy 21 is downs, edwards is trisomy 18....little bit of useless info for you!!!

beakas · 15/04/2008 14:09

had my bloods done at 12 week scan and expecting the results at my 16 week check up with MW..hopingnot to have ay after that (maybe being a tad naive) I just hate needles

Flum · 15/04/2008 14:22

NT scan in 1hr 39 mins. Flum drums fingers on desk and does not really concentrate on bonus calculations......

loulou33 · 15/04/2008 14:39

beakas - bloods at 12 weeks scan - are the the ones for hiv, syphilis, etc??? I had bloods done then for various blood bourne infections but not downs etc.

good luck flum but please stop drumming your fingers its really irritating and i can't concentrate on work!!

loulou33 · 15/04/2008 14:48

Just ignore my angry posts - i have answered my own question by calling mw friend. you can have bloods early particularly if you have a private clinic near you. Sadly my trust is only offering the worst possible detector of downs (double test) and are doing it as late as possible. very pissed off and wish i had checked this out earlier so i could have gone private (although it would have been a 3 hour round trip with a 2 year old!!) Ho hum just have to hope all is well......

ChilledBunny · 15/04/2008 15:22

Hi, Can I join you? I was in the Nov08 thread, but just had dating scan and due date now Oct 30th!

SUGR (and anyone else who's had one) - I'd really appreciate some idea of what the CVS is like as I'm booked in for one next week. I know what's going to happen, but it'd be great to hear from someone who's been through it. Also, I've been told that there is a risk of miscarraige for 4 weeks afterwards but that 2/3rds of them happen in the first 2 weeks. I just dont know how long I should take it easy after the test to minimise the risk.

beakas · 15/04/2008 15:43

hi, the 12 week bloods were for HIV etc. however I have opted against having further blood tests for Downs etc. It may sound daft to some of you but I am a bit of a fatalist , and after discussing it with other half we decided to opt out.

Jambers99 · 15/04/2008 16:29

Welcome to all the new people, particularly ChilledBunny who is my EDD twin! Glad to have someone else at the end of October as everyone else seems to be weeks ahead of me. Things going fine here, am currently 11w+5, next scan isn't until 10th June but I've got a clinic appointment in 2 weeks so am hoping to persuade them to try and find the heartbeat for a quick bit of reassurance. Looking forward to feeling the little one start moving around!

beakas · 15/04/2008 17:28

I can't wait to feel some movement either- my next scan is on my 30th birthday and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not..don't want to spend my whole pregnancy worrying but I guess it's natural to be concerned about whether everything will be ok. Am hoping to hear heartbeat at my next mw appointment though, which is in two weeks
