What would everyone think about adding our planned place of birth to the names list? I know there are lots of homebirthers so maybe e.g. "home (UCH)" for someone like me who's planning a homebirth with UCH as backup. It also gives an idea of location ... I'm hoping I might be able to meet one or two of you before the big day, as no RL antenatal group this time round!

I can try and add this info to the list if everyone's happy with the idea?

maretta · 17/01/2005 20:38

Sounds like a good idea.
I'm hoping for home birth but I'm with Trafford General as my hospital (in South Manchester).

PicadillyCircus · 17/01/2005 21:09

Not sure where I'm planning to give birth yet - we're moving soonish (only a few miles away but into a different county ) - don't know whether you can give birth in a different county. In some ways I'd like to have a home birth but last time I had pre-eclampsia (luckily not too badly but was in and out of hospital for the three weeks before DS was born) and lost 3 pints of blood after he was born, so not sure anyone (including DH) would be too happy about my giving birth at home.

Anyway, I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow and get myself into the whole system.

pooka · 18/01/2005 07:19

Good idea Franch. At the moment I'm thinking home, with Princess Royal (Farnborough) as a back up.
Think am going to see GP today as the pain (rather a certain heaviness, or dull ache) hasn't gone away and can be quite uncomfortable. I feel rather as if I have a stomach upset, including the stomach ache and nausea, but with no vomiting or diarrhea(?). UTI test (which would have perfectly explained how I'm feeling) came back negative. I hope it's nothing, but you can't help comparing pregnancies, and with DD I felt nothing like this.
Anyway, bye for now.

maretta · 18/01/2005 08:48

Is that Farnborough in Hampshire. I grew up round there.

Let us know how you get on at the doctors.

Sallie · 18/01/2005 09:09

Wanted to have this one at home but diagnosed with Group B Strep. Therefore will probably be Chelsea & Westminster. Yes, my doctors appointment is just to register my pregnancy and get the referral to the midwives set up as well as the scan.

zubb · 18/01/2005 10:36

All being well I'll have this one at home. We will be having an extension built this summer though, so I can see myself kicking the builders out when I start contractions!
I have had 2 very quick labours, so home is best this time, especially as I didn't make it to the hospital last time! Dh was adamantly against a home birth last time - and ended up delivering the baby on his own, but this time is positive about it as at least he'll have help!
I bypassed the doctors this time, and have made an appointment with the midwife at 9 weeks for booking in. I'm not too worried about when I have an initial scan as I know the dates exactly for this one.
Been feeling really rough between 4 and 6 again with this one, exactly the same as the last two - its the worse time for me to get it as I pick the kids up and have to get dinner ready. Dh has to come in now and take over. My blood pressure must have gone through the floor again as I feel light headed most times I stand up.
Luckily this seems to be the worse it gets for me, and I haven't had any vomiting. I'm convinced this will be another boy as it's so similar to ds1 and ds2.

Tallbird · 18/01/2005 10:50

I am planning on having this one at the Royal Surrey in Guildford.
Had an appointment with my GP on Fri - she was happy to try & get me referred to Kings for scans etc - though I am not holding my breath, as we are way outside their catchment area. Still will wait and see...

Kiwicath · 18/01/2005 11:27

Golly, you girls seem to have it all sorted. I, quite literally, don't know if I'm coming or going! Have lived in Egypt for the past 10 years and had my son in Cairo which all worked out brilliantly. However, Hubby is very unhappy with his job and we have been talking of moving back to NZ at some stage. The question is: Move back in June/July, buy house, get job and have babe in Sept OR stay here, have babe in Cairo then move back in the New year - with 6 months more money for setting up house etc???? I wouldn't have a clue what needs to be done re hospitals in New Zealand. Guess I'll start doing some research once we've had the first scan (mid/end of Feb).

Sallie · 18/01/2005 12:59

I thought I had better get going as I have read on some other threads about people leaving it too late to go and see their gp/midwives and consequently not getting their nuchal scan at 11-13 weeks. I won't be offered a dating scan as it isn't part of the routine in my trust. But I do need to register with my gp before anything else happens because of the domino care. He needs to refer me to the midwives and to the hospital. I can't do it myself. Quite excited - perhaps about the prospect of leaving work early this afternoon and perhaps about the prospect of no 3 becoming a little more official. Still told noone in RL apart from dh.....

zubb · 18/01/2005 13:05

IKWYM Sallie, I can't wait to see the midwife in a couple of weeks, just to make it official. I think I'm going to have to tell someone soon though. We have a scan at 12 weeks then one at 20, with the 12 week one being the dating scan - is it the nuchal fold scan as well (?) - I only go for the dating bit.

PicadillyCircus · 18/01/2005 13:21

Saw the doctor this morning and am now in the system. I have my maternity notes to fill in the parts that I can fill in before I see the midwife in a few weeks time. Don't really want to fill anything in yet though as it feels a bit tempting fate.

Mentioned to the doctor that we will be moving soon and I will be able to give birth in the same hospital as last time, but will have to change surgery and midwife (although we're only moving a few miles away ).

Also have my form to fill in so I can get free prescriptions again - the last one only ran out nearly a couple of months ago .

DS is having a nap at the moment so I am enjoying myself on here

PicadillyCircus · 18/01/2005 13:22

And this time I get a 12 week scan - with DS there was only a 20 week one. If I want the nuchal scan then I have to do that privately; I don't think I will be having it, but will discuss it with DH.

franch · 18/01/2005 14:25

PC, my last maternity exemption form hasn't run out yet!!

Hi everyone. Getting increasingly stressed about not being 'in the system' until 27 Jan; that's the first appointment my GP had available, and so far, no cancellations yet. Until I see him I won't get on the waiting list for scan/nuchal test, and Homerton Hospital is always snowed under.

pooka · 18/01/2005 17:04

Excellent lists.
Decaf - hopefully once you have your appointment they should be able to shoehorn you into a 12 week scan appointment. After all, what about all the people who still haven't realised they're pregnant? It certainly happens - several friends didn't visit the GP until about 10 weeks plus.
Went to GP, saw locum earlier. Tested once more for UTI - nothing. Just been told to sit tight and drink lots of water. Bit frustrating really, as do feel quite rotten. Not all the time, but enough to not be enjoying this part of the pregnancy and quite unlike when was pregnant with dd. Maybe it's a boy??

Sorry, I was a bit London-centric not saying where UCH is (inexcusable for a Scot like me ):

PicadillyCircus · 19/01/2005 07:49

At work now (but will be going out to a client later on). Not really feeling sick yet, but have bits of nausea here and there.

Got all worried last night for no good reason - suddenly felt that everything is going to go wrong. DH gave me a nice big hug, but suppose I'll be worried until I've had my 12 week scan. Only another 7 or so weeks to go

pooka · 19/01/2005 08:23

I've also been feeling rather wobbly about whether things are going to be OK. Had a horrendously vivid dream last night that things weren't. It's all really because don't feel exactly the way I did with dd where I had no symptoms at all. Can't win really - because then I was completely paranoid because I felt so well, and no I'm paranoid because I'm not feeling brilliant
Seems like a long time until I get to see what's going on inside me

franch · 19/01/2005 13:46

Well, it must be something to do with the stage we're at because I've had a few wobbly moments over the past day or 2. And I've no reason to - the amount of vomiting I'm doing should be all the reassurance I need! Only problem now is keeping anything down - or indeed getting anything down in the first place. Hoping regular doses of Dioralyte and Complan will avert any real damage.

Basically opting out of life in general for the next 5 weeks or so - which is a shame because it's DD's 1st birthday on Mon, and she has a couple of 'friends'' parties this week and next too. DH will be able to take her but it looks like I'm going to miss out
