Yes - sorry everyone [hangs head in shame]

andif · 21/01/2005 14:15

Anyone any thoughts on when to tell kids? (bearing in mind that mine seem so much older than everyone elses?! - 8 and 5) I'm fed up with being 'tired, boring mummy' so feel would like to give them the reason, esp if i start actually being sick like last time. But also feel it's tempting fate. Also they will not possibly manage to keep it a secret!! I suppose if anything 'bad' happened they would also need a reason though, aaggh, I'm going round in circles!! Can't imagine waiting another 6 weeks to tell them. Don't want them to hear from anyone else (school mummy gossip!!)
On the subject of MS, think mine is psychological!! Felt v sick in Sainsburys yesterday, but working today so forgot about it, and felt fine, just tired!!!

franch · 21/01/2005 14:20

Don't worry you two - how lovely for you! Wish someone from my antenatal group was pg - I'm just the lone weirdo with the teeny age gap in mine (actually I haven't told them yet). Anyway - welcome SarahBee!

franch, I'll fight you for the title of 'lone weirdo' with my age gap!!

franch · 21/01/2005 14:50

andif!

franch · 21/01/2005 14:51

WAHAY! Just got my appointment for scan + booking-in with midwife - 18 Feb! Very impressed.

andif · 21/01/2005 15:03

How exciting! Haven't even been to doctor yet as so difficult to arrange - have to phone on day for appt at 8.15 - in the middle of making breakfast, packed lunches and feeling sick, then engaged for ages. Aren't gps helpful! Must do it next week, somehow!

Piccalilli · 21/01/2005 15:04

I went to see my GP on Wednesday because I was worried about the abdominal pain, but they won't even get me 'in the system' for a booking in appointment and scan etc until after I go to the EPU for a heartbeat scan after 6 weeks (I'm 5 + 1). Is this normal? I'm new to all this and just realising there's more to it than I thought.

andif · 21/01/2005 15:06

I really wouldn't worry too much about abdominal pain. I had loads up until approx 5.5 wks, just like period pain, and now it's stopped completely. Lots of friends have had the same thing - I think it's just implantation.

SarahBee · 21/01/2005 15:07

Extremely jealous Franch, although as I only went to GP on Wed I guess I can't complain yet. Not long to wait for you though!

Andif - can't give you any advice on telling other children as I don't have any experience, but I did used to teach 8 yr olds and agree that they need to hear from you first, also that they'll know something's going on if you wait too long. From what I was reading, you've got the perfect age gap - between 2-4 yrs is the worst for sibling jealousy. Ooops for most of the rest of us, just another thing to worry about!

Sallie · 21/01/2005 15:13

Franch - look at my age gap! I am hoping that my paperwork will come through fairly soon - went to GP on Tuesday.....

SarahBee · 21/01/2005 15:19

Sallie, can you clarify that, I can't be the only one struggling to imagine that your dd WILL BE 10.5 months when no 3 is due? Wow!

Sallie · 21/01/2005 15:28

Ahh - sorry, I misunderstood - blame it on pregnancy brain (already!!). My ds will be 3 and a few weeks and my dd will be 19 months when n03 arrives. Does that make better sense?!!! The ages I gave are their ages at the moment!!!

Sallie · 21/01/2005 15:29

So my sibling age gaps will be - 17.5 months between ds and dd and 19 months between dd and no 3....... Have had a TOTALLY unproductive day today.

andif · 21/01/2005 18:38

Sarahbee, thanks for the encouragement on the age gap issue. I have to say, from experience, there is no perfect age gap. My current one is 2 years 7 months and there was no jealousy at all - ds1 even had his first day at playgroup the day I came home with ds2 and he didn't bat an eyelid!! Friends with girls seemed to have more problems with no. 2, but I really think it depends on the child. I suppose that I can at least reason with my 2 this time!

franch · 21/01/2005 19:20

I didn't like to say anything, Sallie - I do know a couple of people with a 10-month age gap (which fills me with a kind of awe) so it is possible - just! BTW I didn't mean I was the lone weirdo here - I know I'm in good company

PicadillyCircus · 21/01/2005 21:32

Just been out with a friend of mine who
s first baby is due in April - was lovely to see her . Am waiting for my train and using the internet at Kings Cross.

Think I ate too much ice cream .

Welcome to all new comers

maretta · 22/01/2005 09:29

Wow, 17 of us. Big welcome to everyone.

How's it going with everyone. I'm desperately watching the postman each morning , waiting for my scan date. I need a date to fix on.

With regrads to telling older siblings, for me it's not really an issue. I'm going to have more of a challenge convincing ds that there's a baby in mumma's tummy. However, when my sil lost her second baby, her elder daughter was about 3.5 and she was very upset - she couldn't understand why she wasn't going to be a big sister .

Is there any news from Yingers on how she got on at the doctors?

PicadillyCircus · 22/01/2005 11:08

I'm looking forward to finding out when my scan dat is as well but as I'm only 5 weeks (and 2 all important days) I think I'll be waiting for a while .

I keep feeling nauseous which is not nice but is all in a good cause I suppose. I'm sure with DS the nausea didn't really start until I was 6 weeks - maybe this will be a DD.

As for telling people, I have told DS but I don't think his 14 month old brain will have taken much in . Apart from DH I've also told two people at work and a friend. Haven't told any family yet as it would be by phone as they're all a bit of a distance away and I'd rather do it in person.

Also a bit worried about my mum's reaction as she has always said she can't imagine why anyone would have children two years apart as they'd be doing GCSEs and A Levels at the same time. Hopefully when she realises her granchildren will have this age gap she'll moderate her views.

DH is out all day studying for his law exams. DS is having a nap and I have been doing washing (clothes, bear, my hair, dishwasher) and am now having a well earned rest

LadyLazarus · 22/01/2005 11:16

Just wondering how many people everyone has told so far? I have obviously told hubby, and our parents, and his brother etc. But I'm DYING to tell my friends!! People are always asking me 'are you pregnant yet?' and I feel like such a liar saying 'oh no, not just yet'!! I was goign to wait until I had at least seen the GP (31st Jan), as then it will seem a bit more 'official'. I am tempted to tell people at work ASAP as I'm a nurse and hopefulyl I'll be able to stop doing night shifts when they find out! Is it too soon to tell people??

maretta · 22/01/2005 11:35

I think whether you tell people depends on what you'd want them to know if things went wrong.

To be honest you may not feel more official after seeing your GP. If it's anything like my appointments, you say 'I'm pregnant', they say 'congratulations' and write it on your notes and that's it. I've never had a pregnancy test from my gp.
It's when you see the midwife or get your first scan that it starts to feel real.

pooka · 22/01/2005 12:50

I've told my family, dh's family and some friends, not all. Also a couple of people at work. Partly because I am useless at keeping secrets, partly because these are people who I would like support from if things don't go to plan. Wasn't going to tell my brothers but my brother's girlfriend guessed!

Jaxpax · 22/01/2005 14:05

Hi all, can I join in? I have just spent the last half hour reading the thread and it has made me feel much better in lots of ways.

Decafarabica I think you'll be glad I joined in as my edd is the 23/9. This will be my no.2, ds will be 12 on dd. Yes I did say 12! I am still in shock!

franch · 22/01/2005 14:24

Hi Jaxpax, congratulations and welcome

Where are you planning on having your little one?

PicadillyCircus · 22/01/2005 14:33

Hi Jaxpax .
