Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well I am very impressed at your literary prowess. I couldn't not never rite anyfink as funny or good as wot that is.

Can I be very cheeky and ask how much weight people have put on? I am over what I should have now - have put on 3 stone and am panicking about losing it. It's not on my top half really but my arse and hips are huuuuugee

VictorianSqualor · 08/04/2008 12:49

I weigh about 17 stone now!
My normal weight is about 11.

EllieG · 08/04/2008 12:55

I stupidly tried on some pre-pg jeans (my really baggy ones) a couple of days ago thinking that they might sit under the bump (god knows why I thought this at nearly 9 months PG) and they wouldn't even come up my thighs

Well, if you are telling the truth VS and not just saying it to make me feel better I am heartened by you VS, as I think you sound similar to me, and you managed to get back to your jeans after your DS was born.

VictorianSqualor · 08/04/2008 12:57

From what I can remember getting down to a 14 was easy enough, it kind of fell off I suppose, it was getting back down smaller than that that took a while.

TLSM · 08/04/2008 13:00

VS what is the stuff you have been using black something or was it blue am buying all the induction thingys and so was wondering!

EllieG · 08/04/2008 13:00

Size 14 would do me just fine for a bit thank you, that's what I usually am. All good reasons to BF too.

Right, really must get off not inconsiderable arse and go and do some cleaning.

VictorianSqualor · 08/04/2008 13:02

It was black cohosh, in liquid form, I got it from holland and barrett.
Take ten drops under the tongue a few times a day and it is meant to help ripen the cervix.
From what I read about blue cohosh it has very little research backing it and some research suggesting it can cause birth defects so I left that one alone.

EllieG · 08/04/2008 13:03

I think that's black cohosh TLSM - I would be a bit careful - I read something that said there was a child died during birth after mother used and they haven't ruled out that as the cause. I think is just a bit untested.

EllieG · 08/04/2008 13:04

Ah - that might have been the thing I read actually.

TLSM · 08/04/2008 13:05

will go away and read got my electric breast pump today so may go play with that as well oh and do DS lunch

scorpio1 · 08/04/2008 13:11

oh i feel really pooey today and weird - like everything is in slow motion. Came home from town early, i was worried i was going to faint. Think i will have a nap again a bit later.

Mollyfloss · 08/04/2008 13:12

VS: You got back into your jeans VERY quickly the last time. Bodes well for this time.

I have put on 17kgs, that's 37 pounds or 2stone10lbs.

From what people tell me it's with first time pg's that ladies put on the most weight (is this because we let ourselves indulge more?). Also, the amount of weight you put on doesn't always mean that much. Apparently some don't put on that much and still find it impossible to lose while others put on a ton and it falls off (maybe because there was a lot of water retention?)

EllieG · 08/04/2008 13:16

Yes! - water. That's what mine is. Have clearly been retaining ever drop I have drunk in the last 9 months.

Mollyfloss · 08/04/2008 13:16

Scorpio, could your pooey feeling be a sign? You said you always feel like crap before you go into labour

scorpio1 · 08/04/2008 13:17

think its because i am very tired, feel very drained and have very swollen face from no sleep.

sagitta · 08/04/2008 13:18

ooh, scorpio. hope everything's OK - it might be that 'day-before' feeling!

Again, I seem to be same as VS. I haven't been weighed at all this pregnancy, but i reckon I'm at least 17 stone, normally 11. And last time it was OK getting back to a size 14, but I only got to a 12 on good days (or with those nicely-sized clothes you get in certain shops!)

TLSM · 08/04/2008 13:18

found this VS some of the bits may help Link

Mollyfloss · 08/04/2008 13:18

Ellie: That's exactly it! I'm looking forward to the water literally flowing out of me after this birth and in a couple of days simply popping into my old jeans!

VictorianSqualor · 08/04/2008 13:18

TBH, I don;t think it matters how much you put on, it's always those last few pounds that are harder to lose.
With Dd I went into hospital in a size 12, came out of hospital in a size 8, but I still had a horrible wobbly belly, with DS I went into hospital wearing a size 22 t-shirt, that was tight, I came home in a size 16-18 tracksuit and was in a 14 in a few weeks, but stayed a 14 for about a year as I didn't really try to lose the weight.
With both, even at such different sizes it was that last bit on my belly that was hard to lose.

Scampmum · 08/04/2008 13:24

I have put on about 35lb I think, 6lb MORE than last time but went to 1/2 stone under pre-preg weight (thanks bf and baby that only slept in sling whilst Mummy was out walking) so will likely end up exact same weight at full-term. Have noticed my feet are really suffering under the excess weight this time - really cracked and achey - maybe because I quite often have another two and a bit stone to carry around in the form of DD! At least my arms will be more toned in the lovely hospital photos this time. I suspect I will be a photo-fit of Madonna arms, Jordan boobs, partially deflated water-balloon belly and Before-Person-on-You-Are-What-You-Eat bottom and legs. Photos strictly chest up, then.

Right then, anyone got heartburn? Is there anything I can eat (apart from chalk) without feeling utterly sick?

Mollyfloss · 08/04/2008 13:25

I've heard that too about the last few pounds... so the old jeans are going to be a bit difficult then for a while

Apparently even if you lose all the weight quickly the hips take a long time to shrink back to their former shape/size. Is this true? (the ribcage however is supposed to spring back fairly quickly...?)

Scampmum · 08/04/2008 13:27

Oh, and Molly, you might not enjoy the water flowing out so much when you realise it's through your pores at night and you wake up freezing cold and looking like you've been swimming! Not to put a downer on it but I remember being peeved no-one had warned me about the Night Sweats.

Scorpio, been meaning to say for ages that I absolutely love the image of you and Reilly dancing in your early (pretend) labour. Can I steal it one day when I am a world-famous novelist?

scorpio1 · 08/04/2008 13:29

Yes it made the pain less, lol.

VictorianSqualor · 08/04/2008 13:30

Scampmum, have you tried hot chocolate with marshmallows?
Does wonders for my heartburn.

sagitta · 08/04/2008 13:31

Forgot about the night sweats - they are horrible...

and scampmum, I've had terrible heartburn. But I noticed it disappeared completely when I was on holiday and my mum was cooking. She doesn't eat carbs , so I've been trying to cut them out since. Not working very well though - and I've just made bread which smells yummy and I am about to eat...
