pregnancy1 · 08/04/2008 13:45

Afternoon - just wanted to share my happy news. We just had our 21 week scan and all is well. Still have a v active Bean bouncing around and found out that Bean is indeed a girl (as I announced to my husband when handing him the pregnancy stick even though logically I can't possibly have known). Phew. Blood tests were also good (glucose 4.2, iron 11.something, downs 1 in 44,000) - at least they told me they wee good.... have no idea at all.

Anyway, all relieved and can now start thinking about looking for baby stuff (cots etc).
Hope everyone else is doing well this pm.

VG, these always make me chuckle.

Buckets · 08/04/2008 15:03

PF, if you join the local NCT branch once you've moved you can do an antenatal refresher course and make friends with other 2nd/3rd etc mums due this summer. Oxfordshire's pretty baby-friendly from what I can gather from friends and parenting sites.

PetitFilou1 · 08/04/2008 15:25

Buckets I am one step ahead of you - I've already booked a class! Not that I think I'll have time to do much with the NCT what with the other two dcs... Agree those b/f tops ....what are they about. I am definitely pro-bf but not a dairy cow! And vg yes the ones you found are indeed very ugly - I wonder who actually buys them...

dizzydixies · 08/04/2008 16:05

buckets that expressing top frightens me!

Am laughing out loud at the bf and expressing tops - wtf??! Who the heck wears things like that?

Am seriously chuffed off with local council school admission debacle - still not had our letter confirming ds' place for next Jan (allegedly letters went out 19th march). I think they've blacklisted me because I keep phoning to ask where my letter is!!

Feeling generally bleurgh today - fed up with work, can't be arsed type mood. However, ds2 (sounds weird to say that!) is currently giving my insides a good kicking so thats reason enough to smile!!

Great scan news for you pregnancy1, glad all was well for you!

Welcome Marx, please feel free to add yourself to our stats list and jump on in with posting. Congrats on your pg btw - how are you feeling?

CaptainCaveman · 08/04/2008 16:48

Oh, and I forgot to say yesterday - I have to go back to small baby clinic with the consultant at 30 wks and 36 wks for scans, because ds was only 2.47kg (5lb 7oz). So I get to see baby Cavey again on 12th June

happy home time girls

is it bad that I'm clock watching for dh to come in!?!?

poppysocks · 08/04/2008 17:33

Afternoon all! My goodness me you can natter. Been away for all of 72 hours and it takes me almost an hour to catch up. Good work!

Well, the London trip didn't work out as well as planned after BF and I stayed up for hours on Saturday night and I woke up feeling shattered, headachey and sick on Sunday. Like I had a hangover basically (I obviously didn't!). Got through the work though and now on the train home.

Quite odd to think that this is my last work trip for at least 15 months. I've worked out my maternity leave and I'm managing to swing almost a year. 10th July 2008-16th June 2009! Plus, after we take our hols in the second half of May, I'll be on 4 day weeks (well, mornings actually as that is my 'day'), and then 3 days for the bit in July. Can't wait!

CC - We have the Quinny Buzz. Won't be changing it as it's good. Particularly good at the whole manoeuvring with one hand thing and good over uneven ground (which we encounter a lot). Will be buying the shopping basket this time as we did struggle on storage last time. Partic. good that you can just clip the car seat onto the frame and the carry cot is a good'un too.

albs - My sympathies are with you re: the car. I had a really silly prang in the autumn that ended up costing (the insurance company thankfully!) £1,000! It was just a dent! It totally knocked my confidence, which wasn't huge anyway. So pleased the new car has a parking sensor. Hope yours is fixed now.

Congrats on all the good scan news and welcome to everyone who's new!

TwilightSurfer · 08/04/2008 17:43

Sazzles I'd wear that dress without the belt/sash.

Back from pool where we were basically kicked out. I assumed they'd allow a few minutes of practice time after the lesson so she could show me her moves and I could FLOAT. Seems the Tuesday-Thursday old folks class is quite big and after DD did her third cannonball off the side of the pool they asked us to come back during recreation swim. So I got to float for 5minutes....amazingly just that little bit of time made my hips/butt/legs feel better. I will plan better in the future. Very very proud of DD as she was the star student in the class. My little pollywog out performed them all!!

Anybody else clumsy lately?? I've dropped almost everything I've picked up including a bag of sugar last night for my tea. Seems the floor is still a little sticky today.

hi all
back from consultant's and she said "well there's plenty of fluid in there for baby"
she also checked Pip's size and he's perfect for 24 weeks (so this means that the impaired blood flow hasn't affected his growth)
DP and I are both on cloud 9!
she said to take it easy still but back to work tomorrow. phoned boss and i was asked if i'd mind going to birmingham for the day...erm yes, i do, sorry!
ooh and while i was being scanned Pip revealed what move he's doing to make it feel like i've got a washing machine of full spin inside me. It was along the lines of moving both arms and both legs as quickly as he can (bit like the chicken dance!) At least i know now! DP commented about how much he was moving round on the screen. Oh yes, its what's making me feel quite sea sick some days!
but you know what... i love every move he makes (where's the beaming mum smilie?!)
woah, that's me! i'm going to be a mum! freaky stuff! i obviously still haven't got my head completely round all this!!
That NCT express top is hilarious!! "suitable for working mums" eh? would YOU where it to the office?? The Rooti Tooti ones are interesting to say the least!
We're pretty close to get all of our little tykes married off! excellent!
My nesting gene has kicked in! i've designed how i want to paint Pip's bedroom. I'm thinking lime green and sunshine yellow circles on white walls. With a giant lime green floor cushion in the shape of a crocodile! we're still in the process of selling flat and buying a house but i'm not giving up on the plan of us being in house before Pip's arrival.
TS, i think Maggie Ethelyn sounds lovely too. We've currently got Theodore at the top of our list. (Milo has been abandoned because of the lack of a longer version)
I'm loving that we're all getting nice scans. I've got another one in 2 weeks to do another fluid check and baby measurement but you know what, i'm not worried in the slightest (and this is the first time i've been able to say that in a long time)
oooh deary me, i have babbled on alot!

poppysocks · 08/04/2008 19:25

Congratulations miamla. Really pleased that you and pip have been given the all clear. Full steam ahead!

miamla · 08/04/2008 19:25

hmmm since writing the above, DP just phoned. He's had some advice from a couple of his work colleagues "ignore all decorating ideas from your partner" Bloody cheek! Apparently they have spent thousands repairing/replacing things that their pregnant wives decorated! And when he told them about my colour scheme, they p'ed themselves! humpf! he'll be at work during the day which leaves me plenty of time to get my paint brushes out! Actually though, i guess a good compromise would be to do some large canvas to hang on the walls. not sure i'll be allowed access to my power tools to make the frames but hey we'll see!

TwilightSurfer · 08/04/2008 19:34

HOORAY Miamla. What good news!! Don't worry over the decorating too much. DS won't be worried over it...he just wants to look at YOU!!

Sazzle there was crier/screamer in our little swim group today...funny I totally expected it to be DD. She just amazed me instead .

Thanks for all the nice notes about my current babyname selection. My dad just ruffled my feathers trying to tell me the child would spend her whole like explaining that her real name wasn't Margaret. I told him he was showing his AGE and made an excuse to get off the phone. I "might" be a little hormonal?

TwilightSurfer · 08/04/2008 19:36

her whole LIFE not LIKE.....geez I CAN'T type

Buckets · 08/04/2008 19:44

That's great news Miamla, now you can go back to enjoying the rest of your pregnancy.

Re the breastpump top thingy, apparently employers are compelled to provide you with use of a hygienic private place if you need to express ie not the ladies' loo. Not sure how private is possible for most companies so I guess attaching a pump to your top might appeal more than handpumping with your boobs out - "Sorry, just popped in for some post-its..." .

TwilightSurfer · 08/04/2008 19:52

LOL Buckets

miamla · 08/04/2008 19:53

i'm not worrying about decorating..i'm confident DP will come round to my way of thinking!
I think you're right about your dad showing his age!

buckets, i'm giggling at your post-it comment!

i forgot to mention our newcomer earlier.. Hi Marx, welcome to our thread. You should be safe here now, we haven't had any bondage or partner swapping sessions in ages! i reckon it was just a hormonal thing!
