Honey I'd have run too. Show of any kind would FREAK ME OUT at this point. I feel like I'll be on pins and needles for seven more weeks. I will say that all the growing going on makes the belly hurt. However if you're hurting and bleeding I don't know if I'd be at home right now. Did you at least get to hear the baby's heartbeat to make sure all was well with he/she?

gigglegirl · 04/04/2008 22:09

lady - hope you are feeling ok - am sure that they wouldn't let you go home if they thought it was risky - can you go and see your own midwife for some reassurance?
I have been ready about homebirths tonight as I think I may opt for another one and am inspired by all the women I read about

HazieAndBaby · 05/04/2008 00:27

OMG LadyOfWaffle! I agree with TwilightSurfer, you sound really calm given everything that's just happened. Hope everything keeps all quiet for you and no more action anytime soon!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Sazzles, but I'm sure that they're more likely to think, 'Where the heck did that down and out nick that pram from?'

I'm glad I could help out with the bargains CaptainCaveman! It was me going crazy in Tesco last week! I think I bought one of everything from their Tommee Tippee range...

The lack of Dizzy is very strange. The board has only moved a couple of pages in the last day, as opposed to the 10 in a day it normally moves at! Just kidding Dizzy, I love you really! Hope she's not burned herself out on the first day back to work...

LadyOfWaffle · 05/04/2008 00:37

I got to hear babys heartbeat - no scan or anything, they were very busy. It was just listen to heartbeat and take blood pressure. Dunno if doctor would have said anything different. I guess i'll just see how it goes overnight.

VintageGardenia · 05/04/2008 06:51

Hi all, show last night was great, DS enjoyed though was late finishing & he was asleep within about 10 seconds of getting into the car. He snores on while I am up with the lark well the crow anyway.

LoW sorry to hear about your emergency, you must have had a real shock, and I hate the story of waiting to be seen. You do seem calm, which is good, but I would give them a ring if you have any lingering concerns, i.e. what should your next move be, etc, and you can just have a list of three or four questions and pop the sex one in as if it was just something it had occurred to you you might as well clear up while you were on! I always try to remember people who spend their lives dealing with preg and birth are non-embarrassable, and don't expect people to be embarrassed themselves.

Super that you got to hear heartbeat.

ggirl I'll be v. intersted to hear about your home birth, I'm not doing it myself but a friend of mine had one almost exactly a year ago & couldn't praise it highly enough. She had an excellent and very attentive midwife in the run up and on the day, and was herself very focused.

VintageGardenia · 05/04/2008 07:11

Just for info, ladies, there is a Due Dec 08 thread .

LoW please post later with an update on yr sitch.

TwilightSurfer · 05/04/2008 13:51

21 weeks today and fighting paranoid thoughts. What's happened with Maimla and LadyofWaffle scare me to death. I was already a knicker-checker because of my miscarriage in November. Both LoW and Maimla are handling things so well. You're amazing!

Over the course of the night I think the baby moved. Instead of kicking my right hip bone she is now kicking the middle-right side of my belly. I guess it won't be long till she's kicking me under the ribs. However she is positioned she's pushing on my bladder more because it's not taking much to spring a leak . It's also getting harder to walk long distances. Yesterday I had to delete one errand because I just couldn't manage another bit of walking. Maybe an electric scooter is in my future .

Dizzy I'm still working on names. These are the ones DH will be discussing this weekend: Maggie Nicole, Maggie Amelia, Kendall Nicole, Kendall Amelia, Meg Jacquelin, Meg Nicole, Meg Kendall, Nikki Amelia, Ella Nicole, Jane Amelia, Jane Kendall. Anybody willing...please feel free to give us your comments.

poppysocks · 05/04/2008 14:15

Hope all ok with you LoW.

Having panic of my own as I haven't felt any movement today. Have tried all the usual prodding, touching my toes, fizzy water etc but to no avail. No other probs so guess it should be fine but could do with a reassuring nudge...

On the train at the mo dashing through NE England on the way to London. Working there on Mon and Tues and catching up with some old friends before that. Had been really looking forward to it, but now rather worried (and have forgotten my notes) and have a stinking cold. Like a few others, I too seem to be catching up on months of missed PMT and am touchy, grumpy and tearful at the moment. Harumph.

To cap it all, I've only left DD 5 times since she's been born and each time our exceptionally healthy child has chosen the 24 hours beforehand to get ill, so am rather tired and feeling exceptionally guilty about leaving her too.

cyteen · 05/04/2008 15:25

Hugs to everyone, especially LoW - that all sounds very frightening and I take my hat off to you for coping so well.

I've finally managed to get up and get dressed - this stupid coccyx thing means that sitting down is painful, and the best and most comfy place for me is, well, lying in bed. So that's where I've been, studying and covering myself in cookie crumbs. The weather is bizarre here today - bright sun/pissing rain/hail/bright sun again. I'm trying to pick the right time to nip out for tonight's tea ingredients (am making a big curry, YUM). Otherwise it's a lazy day

poppysocks, I'm sure your little one is just having an extended kip or something Mine did just the same yesterday, then started going mental at about 11pm. Hope your cold clears up soon, it's not fun working when you feel rotten.

TS, I really like Ella Nicole and Maggie Nicole. Still think Maggie is a rocking name for a baby I have a friend called Maggy and she's brilliant.

poppysocks · 05/04/2008 15:44

Lucky you with your lazy day Cyteen. If bed's the most comfortable place to be...

Have had a few kicks now and a bit of a nap myself so feeling a bit more relaxed. Have gone through every type of weather I think and as I'm on the sunny side of the train (when there is any), I seem to have spent the afternoon adding and removing layers of clothing.

Sorry I didn't respond to your names TS, in my embarrasment at my last moany post I signed off too early. I think all of those combos work really well. How are you going on convincing your DH?

How's the return to work Dizzy? Hope you're not getting too tired.

TwilightSurfer · 05/04/2008 15:52

Poppysocks I'm very impressed that your typing on the train. Seems so cosmo. DH is on my shitlist at the moment because his lack of interest in ANYTHING related to me/baby. We have to talk at some point this weekend though...DD has been accepted into one of the area's leading magnet schools for next fall and we have to let them know by Monday whether we'll accept the offer.

VintageGardenia · 05/04/2008 16:01

Glad to hear you are having some movement again, PS. /and lucky you on a train, I love travelling by train.

TS what is a magnet school? Re your DH they do say it's harder for the blokes to get into all the imaginings this early on.

poppysocks · 05/04/2008 16:16

Typical that I'm now rather getting into this relaxing malarky and I'm nearly there. Should be a good few days though (apart from the work!)

My sympathies are with you TS. My DH just doesn't understand what the fuss is about when it comes to names - doesn't get how important it could be if you get it wrong, and just vetoes everything. Also doesn't get the fact that if I don't feel movement for a few hours it do notice and I do worry. Must be weird though having us so absorbed by something that they can't relate to. Think it's easier now the reason is beginning to show itself a little, but odd nonetheless.

Yes, what is a magnet school? Sounds v. impressive!

cyteen · 05/04/2008 16:32

Yeah, I do think the menfolk have a harder time becoming absorbed with all things baby in the same way that we do - there isn't the immediacy of it growing in them, it must make a difference. My DP is excited overall, but his eyes glaze over whenever I bring the conversation back round to what the baby's doing now or what it will look like when it arrives or what name it will suit or what kind of pram we should get....much in the same way, I expect, that mine do whenever he starts talking about VST plug-ins and ring modulators

Buckets · 05/04/2008 17:36

Poppysocks - try a can of Coke or Dr Pepper (shot of caffeine and sugar ought to wake up the little beggar.) I had one at the theatre last night and Tiny Buckets was going crazy - if I didn't know he can't hear yet I would have thought he was dancing to the music!

TS Maggie Amelia sounds gorgeous.

Have had lovely day so far, took DS into town to run some errands, we played in the big kids' library and had a huge fry up between us for lunch, he was really good and patient. DH & DD decorated the nursery. Have Tarantino's Deathproof and 1st series of The Mighty Boosh on DVD to watch tonight with pizza - told you I live a charmed life, didn't I? Oh and we had rockin' good sex this morning before the kids woke up, this is us -> .

pertelote · 05/04/2008 17:46

A bit off-topic, but can I ask for advice from those of you with experience of toddlers? What would make a nice gift for an eighteen-month-old boy? I don't know the family very well so I've no idea what he likes, what he has already, etc, but I'd like to take a little something - something that he will see the point of but won't drive his parents to distraction! Any ideas? Thank you!

Buckets · 05/04/2008 19:17

Well, I know most toddlers love a handbag - loading stuff in and emptying it out. How about a boyish/unisex little bag, backpack-style is good for little walkers or try Robert Dyas for mini coolbags for packed lunches. Thomas always goes down well.

Buckets · 05/04/2008 19:17

PetitFilou1 · 05/04/2008 19:39

LoW Sorry to hear about the problems you've been having. How many weeks are you now? Fingers crossed everything is ok. I've heard about shows coming out early but think generally they re-plug. Maybe it is a sign you need to take things easier.

Sazzles I'm with you on getting your dh to organise the babysitter - they need to learn how. Dh finally took me out for for an very nice Italian meal on Thursday, having organised the babysitter himself. We only managed a couple of hours out but still it was great to have it all organised by him for a change!

Pertelote An 18 month boy will love a little digger, ambulance or fire engine. Early Learning Centre do a good range of very simple emergency vehicles/construction vehicles that as I recall don't cost much. If they having flashing lights and/or make a noise so much the better....

TS
I like all the names but love Meg (dh won't have it). I'd spell Jacquelin with an 'e' on the end though.

I am now the proud owner of a Citroen Picasso with three seats across the back. I feel strangely even more like a mum now than I did already! Getting the keys to our new house on Monday. Cue a lot of painting, carpet fitting and new kitchen arranging (rubs hands with glee at thought of all that nesting)

PetitFilou1 · 05/04/2008 20:01

By the way, whoever said they are addicted to alcohol free beer - I am having my nightly alcohol free Becks. Must be psychological or something but it still feels like winding down at the end of the day...

LadyOfWaffle · 05/04/2008 20:49

Just a quicky update - everything still OK, sore tummy sometimes though so might ring them... i'll see if a bath helps. Might be trapped wind or something though! I am 22 weeks today or yesterday (I thought yesterday but notes said 21 + 6).

Whoever is buying for the 18 month old - anything with wheels! DS was bought a train that has different shaped holes - ie. square, starm triangle so it's a train & a shape sorter in one which is pretty good.

Petitfilou - my mum has a picasso, they are so great! I really want one but am scared of the size of it. I am going to try and get the smallest car that can fit a toddler, a baby and a pushchair! I had some alcohol free Becks the other week, I was suprised at how good it was - nice to still be able to have a beer in the summer with all the (probably rained out) BBQs!

TwilightSurfer · 05/04/2008 20:51

Oh Ladies I've been shopping shopping shopping.....and bought nothing for me but a magazine. Seems my walking difficult isn't an issue today. Felt so good to get and enjoy the human culture.

VG & Poppy, magnet schools are public schools that have a private influence. The one DD was accepted to gets private contributions from a local museum (and it's contributors). They do loads of extra fun educational stuff that the basic school can't afford to do. They also REQUIRE a set number of parent volunteer hours each semester. Oh and thanks for the DH sympathies.

Buckets thumbs up on your rock'n morning.

Pertelote an 18 month old boy..... That's a hard one. This sounds odd BUT at my girlfriend's son's 2nd birthday I gave him loads of band-aids with cartoon characters on them and an ice pack in the form of SpiderMan's face. He LOVES pretending he has boo-boos and when he really does, she's got what she needs to fix him up in style.

Petitfilou...CUTE CAR. I had to google it because we don't have those here. And congrats on the new abode. Wishing you loads of energy as you move.

TwilightSurfer · 05/04/2008 20:53

LoW...so glad your feeling a bit better. I bet a soak would feel good. That's even a good idea for me. THANKS.

TwilightSurfer · 05/04/2008 20:56

my walking difficulties might be a thing of the past but my writing difficulties seem to still be with me. Sorry for all the garbled crap.
