Underwire debate- it is a potential risk. You have to make sure they fit you perfectly throughout pregnancy which could get very expensive, and time consuming as you could change size from month to month. I tend to just wear them if I'm getting dressed up for a night out.

pinkyminky · 07/04/2008 18:26

How lovely, Ash. I can't wait to see my baby next week.
Hi Tegan. I know what you mean.My eldest is nearly three and it was all changed even with my second, who is now 18 months. They have changed the booking systems here again already.

Oblomov · 07/04/2008 18:27

Pinky, thank you. I will def try some non underwired.

juanitad · 07/04/2008 18:35

Hi everyone,

Not been on for a while, so was sad to see that some people have had to drop off the list. Hopefully they will be on another antenatal thread very soon.

I thought the bra debate was interesting - I was wearing my usual underwired bras until last week, when I thought I would try one of my sports bras, which has turned out to be really comfy and supportive, but it is the only non-underwired bra I have, so I guess I had better go bra shopping this weekend. I am still fitting into my normal clothes ok, but feel lots more comfy at the end of the day when I can undo my buttons and let it all hang out! I think this transitional period could be difficult, as I start to grow out of my normal clothes, but maybe not quite big enough to fit into maternity. What does everyone else do/ what did you do in past pregnancies?

I am exctied that I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow, but would like to find out how long they generally last. I only have about 1 hr 15 mins free, as after the appointment I have to go back to school for parents evening (I am a teacher). I read somewhere that the first appointment can last 2 hours - this seems rather a lot, how long have everybody else's appointments lasted?

pinkyminky · 07/04/2008 18:49

juanitad hello!
There are a few of us who have given in and are in maternity trousers!
Re midwife- it depends, you shouldn't have to wait too long. If you have received your handheld notes through the post, you can fill in the two inside pages beforehand to speed things up. Mine took about an hour. It depends how many questions you have.

mad4mybaby · 07/04/2008 18:57

those of you that are uncomfortable in normal clothes plllleeeeeease try your maternity clothes! I was disgusted at the thought of being in maternity clothes pre 12 weeks but i put on maternity jeans yesterday and admittidly (sp!) i have to wear a belt but they are sooo much more comfortable. The stretch panels mean they also cope with my bloatage! Im not in maternity tops or anything yet and as i said earlier i got a bump belt today but it is too big.

Heartmum2Jamie · 07/04/2008 19:29

I am another that is either in transitional clothes (ie tracky bottom type things) or in maternity stuff, it is soooo much better to be comfy in your own home, even if you look a little silly hitchin' your trousers up every so often! I got a pair of linen maternity trousers from H&M last week, they have a big stretchy panel which I fold over, but they also have a drawstring, so the falling down wasn't too much of an issue.

I think I will be another who has to go bra shooping soon. Thankfully I still have feeding bra's from last time which seem to fit ok, but I will miss the underwire. My boobs seem to have had a major growth spurt this last week.

Juanitad, my midwife appt took about 1 hour 15 minutes and that is with my slightly complicated family medical history, but it might have taken longer had this have ben my first baby. Just make them aware you are limited for time.

Pinkali I am glad to hear all was well at your scan! Great news!

Thanks for everyone's advice on underwire bra's - im gonna have a look at a couple of the sites suggested by some ladies now. Will soooooo miss my underwire though.

My (.)(.)normally are a size 32E so i DREAD what size they might expand to!! My cheeky brother in law joked at the weekend that if i wanted to see my feet again i would definately have to breastfeed cheeky sod!

LolaBella · 07/04/2008 19:45

Just looking now - are maternity bras different from breastfeeding bras, or all they all the same things?

Heartmum2Jamie · 07/04/2008 19:48

They are different. They suggest you get fited for a feeding bra (if you are thinking of breastfeeding) as close to delivery as possible or as soon after as you can manage getting to a shop. They have flaps the unzip, or unclip to expose the breast for feeding.

does anyone have a problem with bending down on your stomach? If i have to bend down to pick ds up or his toys or whatever makes my tummy hurt, makes me feel sick, feels pressure. Anyone else get that?

pinkyminky · 07/04/2008 20:02

I just remembered something from dd's birth, reading your post, Heartmum. I thought I'd get away with my feeding bras from last pg (they weren't stunning but hey I'm a cheapskate when it comes to underwear), but they really were too small! Dh took me to the out of town M&S near us the day I came out of hospital. I was so out of it! The poor lady was ever so helpful
but you can imagine what it was like with my enormous leaky boobs and the morphine only just wearing off.
Lola, if you go to a good place to get fitted for a feeding bra around your due date they will make allowances for possible further expansion plus breastpads. You'll probably want to change again later as feeding settles down. This is all a looong way off.

Emmanj · 07/04/2008 20:06

juanitad - my first midwife appt was about 30/40 minutes. Its my first pg and all mediacal history pretty starightforward. Im also a teacher, what age do u teach?

mad4 - yes i have that feeling when bending down, i know just what u mean. At the mo im just controlling it with deep breathing. (and trying not to bend down!)

ceebee74 · 07/04/2008 20:07

OMG - how many messages in one day????

Re the bra debate - I wore underwired bras throughout my first pg with DS (although only during the day - I switched to non-wired bras at night) and I couldn't breastfeed DS as I literally didn't produce any milk - now obviously I have no idea whether the 2 were linked or not but worth
bearing in mind......

Still feeling very rough - and am not even 7 weeks yet so this has got another 2 weeks before peaking....aaaggghhh!!

Pinkyminky - thanks for the tips. I got some mint imperials and they are definitely helping (don't know why but they do) and also got some Twinings lemon and ginger tea which helped at lunchtime so I thought great, this works - had another cup late this afternoon and it made me feel worse if anything! It tastes nice though

Just made myself a lovely banana milkshake - it has definitely hit the spot!

Doctorswife - definitely just eat whatever you want/need to get you through this period and worry about being healthy in a few weeks.

I am taking Pregnacare aswell (not sure if it is Plus or not).

juanitad · 07/04/2008 20:09

emmanj - I teach secondary (languages), how about you? Are you one of the lucky ones who has just started Easter hols, or like me one of the unlucky ones who has just started back after hols?

pinkyminky · 07/04/2008 20:17

Ceebee I have absolutely no idea why they work either, but who cares, so long as it does.

LolaBella · 07/04/2008 20:21

Juanitad - i teach secondary too (psychology) and i'm one of the unlucky ones who went back today
Where abouts are you based?

Emmanj · 07/04/2008 20:40

Im primary, and im luckily still on hols, im dreading going back!!!

Cant remember who it was that I was discussing neck pain and bed mattresses with? Was it dozymare? just wanted to see how ur doin?

divedaisy · 07/04/2008 20:57

Emannj you were discussing neck pain and memory foam mattresses with me, but I'm heading off this thread now. If you need me you can get me on the Avengers thread (under MC topics somewhere). Can now take some of my medication that I wasn't allowed when preg. Neck constantly sore, but do things when able in bite sized pieces. Have you checked out the mattresses yet? You may need to get an MRI scan done (after birth of your LO) to get diagnosis. Physio may help, but I'd avoid osteopaths etc - at least I was advised to stay clear of them as my neck condition is contrindicated for manipulation. get some good diagnosis and advice. take care.xx

Emmanj · 07/04/2008 21:42

thanks so much divedaisy, wishing you lots of love and hope everything goes well for you, you've been a true source of wisdom and support for so many of us on here. Im taking your advice on the mattress and got physio 2mw. all the best xxx

mummyhill · 07/04/2008 22:22

Regarding picking stuff up, from previous experience crouch down don't bend. Let your knees do the work not your spine. This will put less pressure on your abdominal region which has to be good.

AutumnLady · 07/04/2008 22:48

hi all

i'm glad i'm not the only oen who got my dates wrong, but I think i do win the largest gap award! not entirely my fault as was not all that regular at the best of times

on the bra subject, I am wearing sports bra at the moment as am normally quite small and can get away with no wiring but now they are filling the bra totally and also hurt when I take it off so a trip to Marks & Sparks coming up this week I think. I'll take my mum who is dying to buy something baby-related with me!! I'm also gettin uncomfortable in 'normal' clothes and can't wait til I get home to throw on my trackpants. My work trousers are digging in but i went shopping last week and thought I would be able to get away with buying a size 10 but they were so baggy by my bum I looked like a wannabe rap star! I am relenting and am going to try some maternity clothes instead. I was worrying that it was too early at 9 weeks to do so but I think that the idea comfort is winning over any kind of embarrassment

AutumnLady · 07/04/2008 22:53

forgot to say re the vitamin issue, I take Pregnacare plus too, my GP recommended them.

browny · 07/04/2008 23:04

Hi AutumnLady and welcome and congratulations!, I'm another one who'll be taking a trip to M & S soon, I really need a comfy bra, I'm only a 36B and my boobs don't seem to have grown much but they do feel swollen, my ds2 fell against me on the sofa tonight and I nearly jumped through the ceiling! Still feeling really wiped out and ill until around tea-time here, I think I'm 9 weeks tomorrow.

Mummyhill, it'll be lovely to meet up with you, Jammy was going to drop in to see me today but I had to take the boys to have their hair cut.

Pinkali, glad your scan went well .

Oblomov · 08/04/2008 08:21

I have blood in my wee. Not good.
Went to Gp yesterday. Prof Amiel had given me amoxcillyan for protein in wee and I had finished the course. Didn't feel better, still shooting pains, and on sunday had a kind of cystitus sting when I wee'd. Gp's test of urine was negative. But he told me to do another sample and he would end it off to the lab. So I did it this morning. And there was blood. So thats not good, is it ?
