congratulations and welcome fenlondon.

could have joined all you 4am awake ladies, actually thought about coming down and coming on here but thought obsession with MN was getting a little out of hand!

ECC - i had a horribly hormonal day yesterday too, brought our pram/buggy and was assembling it at my mums (with them, brother and his partner, and my DH) - recipe for disaster. All was fine till footmuff zip wouldn't do what i thought it should, hence 4 helpful people and then DH (despite me telling asking him to leave it cause he will break it) breaks the zip. I got stressed with him, he yelled at me in front of them all. We made a hasty exit - so embarrassed now and have a family dinner today so have to face them! I cried the whole way home . My poor mum even rang me last night to tell me she had fixed it!

sweetkitty · 23/03/2008 10:01

Happy Easter everyone! We have been Easter Egg hunting, DD1 is now dressed as Cinderella and DD2 as a crocodile (Easter presents) but they have had a lot of chocolate too.

DD2 up at 6 again this morning nappy explosion third day in a row poor wee thing what a way to wake up and she was all cold and miserable.

shortshafe - I originally had a Mamas and Papas Twin Aria when DD2 was born hated it with a passion (should have got a P&T but listened to DP) hard to get up kerbs, basket broke after a week, cosytoes didn't fit right, difficult to fold, a friend then gave me a Graco Stadium Duo (tandem) which was better but still quite bulky to push, DD1 was a runner and we still used it until she was about 3 then I used a wrist strap and a single. I think I need a P&T especially when on my own as I will have DD1 who will be 4 and DD2 2 1/2 (who looks like she is going to be a runner as well) and DD3. Once DD3 is out the lie flat baby bit I will probably put her in the front and use the back as an "as and when" seat for DD2 need to see how is goes. Sometimes it's just easier to strap them in a buggy and go in a hurry than spend an extra 20 minutes as you have to look at every tree/bit of litter/gate post on the way!

Paula - sorry you now have the bug it really is doing the rounds

fenlondon - hello and welcome to mumsnet, my first baby was born on 20th July

mummywannabee - aww poor you I'm sure your family will be fine enjoy your dinner

Kaz1967 · 23/03/2008 11:53

fenlondon Welcome

minipinkscottish · 23/03/2008 14:11

Sorry to hear your family has been hit by the BUG PAULA!! It's awful - my thoughts are with you xx

HAPPY EASTER

isaidno · 23/03/2008 18:52

Sympathy to all those with nasty bugs. I am coping quite well with the mil visiting - but I am hiding in the computer room for 5 mins peace!!

twinkle1 · 23/03/2008 20:51

Evening all,
Jingle bells jingle bells oooppss sorry confused the holidays something to do with the foot plus of snow we have!!!!!!! and the semi frozen chickens. The kids have had a fab day making snow men and snow aliens???? great eh
we are having a nice quiet relaxing time here, eating chocolate and watching telly.
At least the snow plough had been out cos the kids had to go to swimming lessons today.Babies seem to be increasingly active, it feels like two ferrets fighting in a bagAlways wondered what twins would feel like
well im off to eat more choc's
Twinkle

Kaz1967 · 23/03/2008 21:44

LOL @ Twinkle and the ferrets Bump is starting to throw tantrums and stamp a little food already had me in fits of giggles yesterday

purplejennyrose · 24/03/2008 07:17

Happy Bank holiday all! Have had very little sleep and given up and come downstairs for quiet coffee now - think I may go back to bed when DH and DD get up!!
Gosh Twinkle - we had one snowstorm that didn't settle. I just want warm weather now, especially as none of my coats do up properly over bump...
Thanks for new thread - can't believe it's already 4 pages by the time I've got on it.
I have to say at the risk of sounding miserable, this pregnancy doesn't feel that enjoyable at moments - I'm getting so much pain and aching through pelvis, leg cramps that won't go away, and little one is so active, she just kicks and kicks, which is uncomfortable cos she's very low down so seems to be walloping my cervix a lot of the time! Actually she appears to be doing star jumps as I feel it both sides simultaneously! Gets a bit much... I think it is mainly that I am still at work and driving lots - it must be better when I stop work, not long now! Had a totally lazy day on Sat at some friends' house, doing nothing, and felt completely different!!
Anyway, sorry all for long whinge, had a bad night! I know others on here have much worse to put up with!
Welcome to newcomers to thread, too. There are so many babies due this July - what was in the air last Oct!!

disneystar · 24/03/2008 08:37

purplejennyrose what was in the air you say last october well for me it was this
we had been ttc since january last year with no luck we had a big chat in the september and decided as i was 40 the following month (october) we would call it a day we guessed it wastn meant to be.
so he took me away for my birthday and did not try for a baby
did a test november oh hello baby
i think i may have a ferile month in october as its the 4th time i have concieved in october
has anyone else had months that were good to them or just pure luck!
my 2 months are march or july/august babies depending it there late
also my bump has seemed to grow massive just lately like it its had a huge spurt on or something
hope everyone has had a good few days of and relaxed if only a tiny bit
we are trying to figure out the best nappy to buy at the moment its got to be a cloth one
also choosing the pram, its amazing how many people have said to me "its bad luck to have the pram in the house before the baby arives"
anyone else encountered this or is it just another old wives tale

EEC · 24/03/2008 08:39

Purplejennyrose - poor you. I know whatyou mean. I'm not working but am iygwim, as we are renovating house and packing up to move in two weeks, so I am very active, busy and stressed. I forced myself to take the day off yesterday, and did relatively little, and what I did do was fun stuff with DC's (egg hunt and playing games by the fire) - and I felt like a completely different person by the evening. Soo much less achy, tired, grumpy. I'm going to try and do the same today, but know that come Tuesday I'll have to go back to being mad whirling woman!

Hopefully a week or two after the move, when the children go back to school, I'll be able to relax a bit more. There'll still be a million things to do, but at least the time pressure will be off.

Paula and Kitty - Sorry abou all the poorliness.

Welcome and congrats Fenlondon

Mummywannabe · 24/03/2008 09:36

Disneystar - i've heard it often happens when you stop trying. We were incredibly (sp?) lucky. First month of trying after wedding and we conceived this little one! Was a bit a shock to fall so quickly to be honest but i feel so fortunate!

Re: Pram in house - its an old wives tale but i have left mine at my mum's as i'm funny about things like that - when i get something in my head it won't go away!

Feeling excited about impending arrival - little one kicks so much. Sympathies to purplejennyrose - had a tough day yesterday with pain, heartburn etc etc. Only 9 weeks till i stop working, although i'm a bit sad about that too (blooming hormones ).

Is anyone else training their temporary (or permanent replacement). I am its my bosses girlfriend and its a nightmare - lots of helpful 'have you never thought of doing like this, or i think this would work better'. I have bit by tongue so many times rather than scream 'its not my appraisal you know i'm training you!'. I appreciate that she will find her own way of doing things but have a little tact please.

Right more breakfast i think, already demolished 2 crumpets with marmite, time for 2 more!

pigleychez · 24/03/2008 10:25

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!
We visited both sets of parents yesterday and did the family thing.

Was shocked to wake and see the snow though! It snowed most of the day but didnt really settle.

I too have a wrestler in my tummy! The moment i wake up i feel a kick then it just doesnt stop all day! amazing to feel and quite reasurring but can get alittle much sometimes when i just want to relax.

As for last Oct, We were in Paris for a long weekend! We were married in the June and DH had said he didnt want to start trying till this year but he knew i did. Anyway we started trying in the Aug So only after 3 months of trying we were successful. Im sure it was because we were move relaxed whilst in Paris and not desperatley trying, using Ovulation sticks etc.

Sorry to hear everyones poorly

My pram is in the house. Both our parents live miles away and too far to leave at thiers and its too big to ask any neighbours etc.
Im usually quite supersitous (sp?) but needs must. Plus as DH says.. Whatevers going to happen is going to happen regardless if theres a pram in the house.

Off to the shops today to look for a Washer/dryer and a freezer.
Freezer is old and in need of a new one. Dryer as we are getting pissed off with having wet clothes that wont dry in winter! Especially with Baby on the way and the extra washing they bring we both agree its best to get one to help dry the clothes.
Just hope the shops arent too busy!

MrsHOP · 24/03/2008 12:55

Hi guys, hope you are all having a nice break...

My turn for the 4am shift this morning - woke up after having a weird nightmare, and had that silly feeling where too scared to go to the loo but had to go eventually...by the time I got up I was wide awake, came downstairs and faffed around watching TV, eating etc for a few hours.

Mummywannabe that sounds horrendous - it's weird enough having a replacement anyway but for them to try and pick holes in your work is even worse - and the bosses girlfriend to boot! I have an agency covering my mat leave which is perfect really - especially as the bosses were initially considering my assistant do it, and she is a spoilt little madam who I wouldn't trust covering me in a million years!!

Got pram and carseat this weekend - my latest query for you experienced mums is...cotbed or cot? Or does it really matter?!? We have a crib that we're going to use for the first few month but I guess we want to start thinking about it now...

Mummywannabe · 24/03/2008 13:02

Mrshop - its not great but perhaps i'm a little oversensitive too? Re: cotbed - i was advised that is only of benefit if you are gonna have a big enough gap between children (if your having 2) to get use. In our case hope to have another within 2 years or so, therefore by the time we need to turn cot into a bed we will need another cot. Also we are a little tight in space and cotbeds are bit bigger.

littleoldme · 24/03/2008 13:07

Scuse the crash ladies. I've got a huge bag of vests, baby gro's and a few odds and end that I just can't face sorting. It's all good quality - mainly new born and 0-3. If anyone wants it it's free to a good home. email me at rebekah50morgan at yahoo dot com

MrsHOP · 24/03/2008 13:13

that's what I think - we'd like another one within a couple of years too...there just seems to be too much choice for everything to do with buying for baby!

I know what you mean about being oversensitive at work - it feels so strange starting projects that you know you won't be around to finish.
We had an office shift around last week and my assistant was quick to re-file in a way 'she found much more easy to understand' - made my blood boil slightly...though everyone tells me once the little one arrives I won't give a crap about things like re-filing!!

purplejennyrose · 24/03/2008 14:21

disneystar, we have a theory that I am more fertile in even numbered months - but that it is only based on two conceptions!!
We have a cotbed for dd1 MrsHop - but we got it from Freecycle and it doesn't have the cot sides - so basically a tiny low bed with high ends! It's been great for getting dd1 out of cot before dd2 arrives though. We now have the option of Moses basket or cot for dd2. Cot was DH's and his brothers' and has a tendency to fall apart under the influence of a toddler...

JODIEhavingababy · 24/03/2008 14:29

Hi all, hope you've all had nice weekends, it sounds like we all had the same sort of one, snow and vomit!!

Luckily MIL and FIL had DS Saturday night, we went out and it was lovely, but by 5.00 Sunday morning I was throwing up and all sorts, so MIL had DS til the afternoon, and then DH decided to be sick too. Thankfully we both feel much better today and the whole house stinks of bleach, trying to get rid of germs before DS gets it!!

As for cotbed v's cot, I went for the cot bed with DS and I kinda wish I hadn't, Only because we are going to have to buy a bed anyway for DS and the sides don't come down.... But on the plus side it is nice and big and DS likes to move around alot when he's asleep (I tell you that kid NEVER keeps still!)

MINNIE1 · 24/03/2008 17:56

MrsHop
we got DD1 a cotbed and i find it brill.. She has just gone into the bed and she loves it. I have a cot for DD2 and the i really think the cotbed is deeper then the cot, which is good as they do tend to jump out.

You poor things with the bug

Have a question for you ladies on lie-in's, When do you get them and for how long for? DP thinks 8 8-30 is considered a lie-in... Well it kinda is but i would love to be able to sleep past 9 o'clock once in a while!

carrieHD9 · 24/03/2008 21:09

Question for all you experienced types- what special properties does a maternity bra actually have (other than the ginormous cup sizes available!). My boobs haven't actually grown that much- but at 6 months my normal bras getting a bit tight and thinking can I just get normal but my new size bras- or do maternity bras do something extra special??? I'm normally a 34C/D, reckon I'm probably only up to a 36Dish sadly, so no need for extra strong straps or anything...

lazyhippo · 24/03/2008 21:15

Shortshafe- I only wish that extra strong abdominal muscles were the cause ! But yes Kitty + Kaz, I've got an anterior placenta so thats probably the reason for lack of movement. However this morning I did have a few "strange" sensations that may have been movements, but more likely just wind!!
Welcome Fenlondon
Sorry for all those of you with bugs
xx

sweetkitty · 24/03/2008 22:30

Evening everyone, hope you all had a good Easter mine was pretty miserable to be honest. With DD2 and DP being ill and me just feeling rotten I'm a bit down really. Still onwards and upwards as they say.

Paula - no shops were all open we went to the Designer Outlet village thing in Livingston, didn't buy much trainers for the DDs and myself.

minipinkscottish - I have a Coorie sling I think it's made by Freedom slings can't remember is that the sling company in Scotland with the woman with 12 children? The Coorie is padded and a pouch type sling, TBH I never really got on with it, DD2 screamed everytime she was in it but I think I gave up too quickly with it. On another thread there was a few recommendations for a Close baby carrier and a Kari-Me.

twinkle - one kicking you is bad enough don't know what two would feel like!

purplejennyrose - I'm the most miserable pregnant woman ever, I just don't enjoy it I feel really guilty as it's my last pregnancy but I am counting down the weeks.

disneystar - that is an old wives tale about the pram being in the house, I've had all of mine in the house nothing else for it, I'm a believer in fate and having a pram in the house isn't going to stop anything bad happening IYSWIM. As for nappies, it's a tough one, they all have good and bad points. I preferred Tots Bots with a Motherease wrap, I loved the Fuzzi Bunz pocket nappies they were so lovely but DD1 was such a heavy wetter they were only lasting an hour. I think you have to research a lot of them and see what suits you best.

Carrie - maternity bras are really just non wired bras if I remember correctly. The feeding ones you buy once the baby is born have the little drop cups so you can get a boob out easily. There is a train of though that underwires if fitted incorrectly can block the milk ducts. I'm still in normal bras but they are getting a bit tight. I'm only going to get a few bigger size ones though then the feeding ones.

Right now we have a cotbed as a bed for DD1 and a bedsice cot for DD2 which is a normal cot right now, DD3 will get the bedside one then we are thinking of 2 bunkbeds as singles for the DDs. I think a newborn would get swamped in a cot bed TBH. If I were having my first and with the benefit of hindsight I would go for a bedside cot everytime. Or a standard cot then go for a single bed.

isaidno · 25/03/2008 07:27

Finished painting my nursery - it is a lovely mauve-pink with white woodwork. have arranged some baby things in baskets a la decorating magazines!! I am having the expensive border which I mentioned ages ago on another thread, but I am waiting until my 34 week scan to check for a willy first! If there is a willy it will be "get a tin of blue paint quick!"

Hope all the pukers are not puking today!

Welcome fenlondon - there is a list a bit further back on the thread where you can add yourself.

Cotbeds - take up a lot more room, often don't have drop sides. Good for last / only child, but loads of people have never made theirs into a bed because of another baby arriving.

Back to normality today - Tesco and housework! Not that I've had a very exciting bank hol weekend anyway.

Kaz1967 · 25/03/2008 09:38

Morning everyone from windy Lincs Hope everyone is well this morning. Off to look at the flat this affy
